Synthesis and reactivities of 10-S-3 trithiadiazapentalene derivatives

1,3-Bis(p-substituted-phenylthiocarbamoyl)-2-imidazolidinethiones 3a-f reacted with bromine to give trithiadiazapentalene derivatives 5a-f , bearing the exocyclic C-N double bonds, in moderate yields. The molecular structure of 5b was elucidated by the X-ray crystallographic analysis. The treatment of 5b-f with hydrochloric acid gave the ring-opening products, 1,3-bis(p-substituted-phenylthiocarbamoyl)-2-imidazo-lidinones 9b-f , accompanied by the production of elemental sulfur. Reduction of 5b , 5d , and 5e with sodium borohydride gave the ring-opening compounds, 1,3-bis(p-substituted-phenylthiocarbamoyl)-2-imidazolidines 13b , 13d , and 13e respectively.     

Constituents of Crinoidea, 4. Isolation and structure of ceramides and glucocerebrosides from the feather star Comanthus japonica

Five ceramides, JC-1-JC-5, and four glucocerebrosides, JCer-1-JCer-4, have been isolated from their parent ceramide and glucocerebroside molecular species JC and JCer obtained from the less polar lipid fraction of the chloroform/methanol extract of the feather star Comanthus japonica. The structures of these sphingolipids have been determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. Reversed-phase HPLC was effective at isolating these sphingolipids, revealing very close resemblance in their structures. JC-1, JC-3, JC-4, JC-5 and JCer-2, JCer-4 are newly found ceramides and glucocerebrosides, respectively.     

Association behavior of a nitrilotriacetic-acid-modified dye in a poly(vinyl alcohol) film containing Ni(II)-adsorbed gold nanoparticles.

The association behavior of the dyes 5(6)-carboxyfluorescein and nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA)-modified 5(6)-carboxyfluorescein (F-NTA) in a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) film and in a PVA film containing metal nanoparticles is investigated. Well-dispersed gold nanoparticles (AuNps) and Ni(II)-adsorbed AuNps are formed in the PVA film using in situ photochemical fabrication method. 5(6)-carboxyfluorescein and F-NTA are doped into the films. The F-NTA forms an H-aggregate in the PVA film containing Ni(II)-adsorbed AuNps. It is suggested that the interaction between NTA and Ni(II) adsorbed on the AuNps promotes the formation of the H-aggregate.     

Isolation and structure determination of six glucocerebrosides from the starfish Luidia maculata

Two new glucocerebrosides, luidiacerebroside A (2) and B (6), were isolated from the cerebroside molecular species obtained from the less polar fraction of the CHCl3/MeOH extract of the starfish Luidia maculata using HPLC. Four known cerebrosides, CE-2b (1), astrocerebroside B (3), acanthacerebroside B (4), and CE-3-2 (5) have also been isolated and characterized. The structures of these cerebrosides were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. Mass spectrometry of dimethyl disulfide derivatives was useful for the determination of the double-bond position in the long-chain base.     

Efficient and widely applicable method of constructing neo-proteoglycan utilizing copper(I) catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition

Efficient constructions of two types of neo-proteoglycan are described. Enzymatically prepared alkyne containing chondroitin 6-sulfate chains and chemically synthesized azido group having compounds are linked by utilizing the copper(I) catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition.     

Polydimethylsiloxane connection for quartz microchips in a high-pressure system.

An interconnecting technique, the "PDMS connection method", for quartz microchips in a high-pressure system is presented. The connection between quartz microchips is an essential technology for modular microfluidic devices, such as microchip-HPLC. PDMS was applied to the seal material, being spread on the seal side of the chips, and set into the metal housing. The characteristics of the PDMS connection method concerning pressure resistance and the extension of the peak were examined. The experimental results showed a good seal at 5 MPa, which seem to be sufficient for realizing microchip-HPLC utilizing a monolithic silica capillary column as a separation medium. The influence of the extra column effect on chromatographic separation was almost the same as in the case using a commercial union fitting. In addition, the PDMS connection enabled the detachability of chip-based modules with user-friendliness. Our experimental findings suggest that the novel PDMS connection method can possibly be applied as a generic technology in high-pressure microTAS.     

Preparation of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa) by using a SbF5-attached catalyst

In this report, a simple process for preparing HFC-245fa through the reaction of 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane (PCP) and anhydrous HF via two-step vapor-phase catalytic fluorination is described. The antimony pentafluoride catalyst was supported on inert porous materials to improve the catalytic activity. The resulting process catalyst not only exhibited high catalytic activity and excellent thermo-stability, but also improved the performance of SbF₅, in terms of hygroscopicity and corrosion.     

Synthesis and structure of 16 pi octaalkyltetraphenylporphyrins

The oxidized octaethyltetraphenylporphyrin (1, OETPP) and the corresponding newly prepared octaisobutyltetraphenylporphyrin (3, OisoBuTPP) could be isolated from the reaction of OETPPLi2 (or OisoBuTPPLi2) with SOCl2. The X-ray analysis and the characteristic UV-vis spectra of 1 and 3 revealed that these are the first examples of 16 pi nonaromatic porphyrins.     

Organo-silanes and -germanes with chelated and/or non-chelated oxinato ligands

Several tri- and di-organo(oxinato)-silanes and -germanes have been prepared from corresponding organo-silazanes or -germazanes. The UV spectra indicate that the compounds involve either chelated or non-chelated oxinato groups or both depending on the number and kind of organic groups on the metal atom. The PMR spectra of RR′Si(OX)₂ (R = alkyl, R′ = vinyl or phenyl) are interpreted in terms of rapid exchanges between the two kinds of oxinato groups
