Thermal decomposition of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O studied by a coupled TG-DTA-MS method

The thermal decomposition of cadmium acetate dihydrate in helium and in air atmosphere has been investigated by means of a coupled TG-DTA-MS method combined with X-ray diffraction analysis. Dehydration of Cd(CH₃COO)₂·2H₂O is a two-stage process with Cd(CH₃COO)₂·H₂O as intermediate. The way of Cd(CH₃COO)₂ decomposition strongly depends on the surrounding gas atmosphere and the rate of heating. CdO, acetone and CO₂ are the primary products of decomposition in air. In helium decomposition goes by two parallel and consecutive reactions in which intermediates, Cd and CdCO₃, are formed. Metallic cadmium oxidizes and cadmium carbonate decomposes giving CdO. Some of the metallic cadmium, depending on the heating rate and the concentration of oxygen, evaporates. Acetone is partially oxidized in secondary reactions with oxygen. Theoretical and Experimental Studies on a Metallorganic Complex of (Isopropylxanthato)(Phenyl)Mercury(I) [Hg(I)(C<Subscript>6</Subscript>H<Subscript>5</Subscript>)(C<Subscript>4</Subscript>H<Subscript>7</Subscript>OS<Subscript>2</Subscript>)]

The title compound, (isopropylxanthato)(phenyl)mercury(I), was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and thermogravimetric analysis. Density functional theory (DFT) method calculations were performed at B3LYP/CEP-121G and B3LYP/CEP-31G levels of theory, respectively. Vibrational frequencies were predicted, assigned, compared with the experimental values, and they are supported each other. The calculated results show that the strength of bond Hg—C is stronger than that of Hg—S, which is good agreement with the experimental data. The calculations of the second order optical nonlinearity and electronic absorption spectra are also performed.     

ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPY STUDIES OF POLYCAPROLACTONE RINGED SPHERULITES*

The surface morphology of free-surface PCL ringed spherulites was investigated by using atomic forcemicroscopy. The spherulites were obtained by crystallization of PCL/PVC blends of different compositions. It was found thatthe ringed spherulite exhibited regularly fluctuating rings on its surface. Compared with the bright-dark ring pattern of thespherulite under a polarizing microscope, it was proved that the optical characteristics of the ringed spherulite underpolarizing microscope coincided with its surface characteristics. The bright rings in polarizing micrographs of the spherulite coincided with the convex rings on its surface, while the dark rings coincided with the concave rings.     

Y2O3薄膜处理对3Cr25Ni7N合金的抗高温氧化性能的影响

采用电沉积-热解法在3Cr25Ni7N合金表面制备了Y2O3薄膜,并研究了薄膜处理对合金在1000℃空气中的抗高温氧化性能的影响。氧化动力学曲线、SEM及XRD分析结果表明,Y2O3薄膜处理使合金表面氧化膜以尖晶石结构为主,氧化膜致密,有效地抑制了Cr2O3的挥发反应,且氧化膜与基体的附着性好,因此合金在高温下的抗氧化性能得到提高,这与氧化钇薄膜在较低温度下抗高温氧化性能提高的机制是不同的。在不同温度下,Y2O3薄膜处理均可以有效提高合金的抗高温氧化性能。     

Microbial synthesis and characterization of physiochemical properties of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) produced by bacteria isolated from activated sludge obtained from the municipal wastewater works in Hong Kong

The first objective of this study was the measurement of physical properties of P(3HB-co-3HV) copolymers with different (hydroxybutyrate) HB to (hydroxyvalerate) HV ratios produced by Bacillus cereus (TRY2) isolated from activated sludge. The 3HV PHBV copolymers were 0.05, 22.6, 39.2, 54.1, and 69.1 mol%, respectively. The second objective was to study possible wastewater treatment and production of PHAs at the same time by B. cereus (TRY2) and Pseudomonas spp. (TOB17) (both were isolated from activated sludge), recombinant Bacillus DH5α, and a combination of the above three bacteria. The results were satisfactory; the maximum COD and TOC of the sewage sludge reduced were 53.5% and 67.5%, respectively.     

Synthesis of a novel hypocrellin B derivative and its photogeneration of semiquinone anion radical

In order to improve the photosensitizing activity of HB further, the complex of 5,8-di-Br-HB with Al(3+) was first designed and synthesized in high yield. 5,8-di-Br-HB forms a 2:1 type (metal-ligand ratio) complex with Al(3+) measured by molar ratio and continuous variation methods. The new photosensitizer was characterized by UV-Vis, IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis measurements. Based on the above experimental results, we first proposed a polymer-like structural model of the complex. The water-solubility and red absorption of the [Al(2)(5,8-di-Br-HB)Cl(4)](n) complex are both enhanced over hypocrellin B. In addition, the EPR and spectrophotometric measurements demonstrate that semiquinone anion radical of [Al(2)(5,8-di-Br-HB)Cl(4)](n) can be produced by [Al(2)(5,8-di-Br-HB)Cl(4)](n) photosensitization. The generation efficiency of ([Al(2)(5,8-di-Br-HB)Cl(4)](n))(.-) is almost equal to that of HB(.-). These results obtained indicated that [Al(2)(5,8-di-Br-HB)Cl(4)](n)was at least a favorable Type I phototherapeutic agent.

用延伸Ｘ射线吸收精细结构（ＥＸＡＦＳ），测定了标题化合物中两个铜原子的配位结构。两个铜原子有相同的配位，确认每个铜原子均与一个氮原子，三个氧原子形成四配位结构。一氧一氮源于ＨＳＢ，而另两个氧由乙酸提供。     

Synthesis of Functionalized (2-Thienylcarbonyl)thiazoles and 4-(2-Thienyl)pyridines by Reaction of (2-Thienylcarbonyl)thioacetanilides and their Enamine Derivatives

Summary. The condensation of two molecules of 2-(2-thienylcarbonyl)thioacetanilides catalyzed by piperidine yielded thiazole derivatives as confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The reaction of malononitrile with 3-morpholino-3-(2-thienyl)acrylic acid thioanilides furnished 6-amino-1-aryl-4-(2-thienyl)-1,2-dihydro-2-thioxopyridine-5-carbonitriles. A similar reaction of malononitrile with 3-morpholino-3-(2-thienyl)acrylic acid anilides provided 2-oxopyridine-5-carbonitriles.
