Synthesis of divinyl tartrate

Summary Divinyl tartrate was synthesized.     

Generation of σ-Aryl Platinum(IV) Complexes in Mechanically Activated Reaction of K2PtCl6 with Arenes

Mechanical activation of K₂PtCl₆ in the presence of gaseous arenes RH (where R = Ph, MeC₆H₄) gives rise to the corresponding -aryl platinum(IV) complexes, whose formation is confirmed by the ¹H NMR and IR spectra and chemical testing. The reaction with toluene gives a statistical mixture of the corresponding meta- (66%) and para-isomeric complexes (33%) with an overall energy yield of 0.08 µmol/J. According to the results of ab initio calculations, the energies of the isomers are fairly similar; therefore, their formation is equally probable from the viewpoint of thermodynamics.     

Conversion of Heterocycles of The Dihydrothiazine–Thiazoline Series in Aqueous Solutions

When heterocycles of the dihydrothiazine–thiazoline series are treated with an aqueous solution of base, they undergo ring opening, leading to formation of ureidoalkanethiols. Study of solvolysis of the heterocycles when treated with ammonia permitted us to observe a novel heterocyclic ring opening reaction, occurring with formation of 2(3)-guanidinoalkanethiols. We have developed a novel preparative method for obtaining 2(3)-guanidinoalkanethiols.     

2-D straw detectors with high rate capability

Precise measurement of straw axial coordinate (along the anode wire) with accuracy compatible with straw radial coordinate determination by drift time measurement and increase of straw detector rate capability by using straw cathode readout instead of anode readout are presented.     

Synthesis of magnetite hydrosols in inert atmosphere

A setup is described for magnetite hydrosol synthesis in inert atmosphere via coprecipitation of bi- and trivalent iron salts in the presence of a base with the formation of nanoparticles having desired sizes and chemical composition. The size of nanoparticles is estimated based on analysis of light-scattering and transmission-electron-microscopy data. The chemical composition of magnetite nanoparticles is monitored by Raman spectroscopy.
