Effect of Cationic Surfactant on the Inhibition of Ligninase by Hydrogen Peroxide

The inhibition of lingninase by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of cationic surfactant CTAB was studied by kinetic speetrophotometdc technique. Results showed that addition of CTAB enhanced the inhibition by H202, but it did not alter the inhibition pattern and the inhibition constant changed little with theco-ncentration of CTAB. Modification of the enzymic protein by the surfactant monomer may be responsible for the above mentioned results.     

Synthesis and Anti-inflammatory Action of(η-C5H5)2Ti(Sal)2 and (η-C5H5)2Ti(Clo)2

Two new complexes (Cp)2Ti(Sal)2 and(Cp)2Ti(Clo)2(Cp=Cyclopentadienyl η5-C5H5), have been synthesized in anhydrous THF by the reaction of Hsal(o-hydroxybenzoic acid, salicylate acid) or Hclo[N-(m-chloro-phe-nyl) anthranili acid, acidum clofenamicum] with (Cp)2TiCl2 and characterized by means of elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV and molar conductivity. In complex (Cp)2Ti(Sal)2 or (Cp)2Ti(Clo)2, the oxygen atom of the carboxyl group coordinates to Ti(IV) in a monodentate manner. The inhibitory action of the complexes on mouse ear tumefaction caused by croton oil and rat foot granulation growth caused by cotton balls is higher than that of the corresponding ligands Hsal, Hclo and [(Cp)2TiCl2], whereas their toxicity is lower than those of the free ligands.     

Design and Application of a Set of Vitreous Standards for EDS-SEM Microanalysis of Melting Shop Slags

Non-metallic inclusions in steel are formed due to interactions between liquid steel and its environment in the melting shop (refractories and slags). Particles not trapped in the slag remain in the cast steel, impairing steel properties in service. Inclusion composition varies and certified standards covering the whole compositional range are unavailable.The present study describes the preparation of a set of homogeneous, glassy and crystalline standards with a wide compositional range for use in analysing non-metallic steel inclusions. For this, materials were designed based on knowledge of the compositional range of interest in the Al₂O₃–SiO₂–CaO–MgO–CaF₂ system, which is the matrix of the most frequent steel inclusions. The composition and microstructural homogeneity of the reference materials was verified.     

Palladium-catalyzed cascade reaction of alpha,beta-unsaturated sulfones with aryl iodides

Unlike traditionally used acyclic 1,2-disubstituted alkenes, the reaction of alpha,beta-unsaturated phenyl sulfones with aryl iodides under Heck reaction conditions (Pd(OAc)(2) as catalyst, Ag(2)CO(3) as base in DMF at 120 (0)C) takes place mainly by a cascade process, involving one unit of the alkene and three units of the aryl iodide, to afford a substituted 9-phenylsulfonyl-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene. The dominant formation of this 3:1 coupling product, instead of the Heck trisubstituted olefin, shows that aromatic C-H bond activation processes can compete with the usually fast syn beta-hydrogen elimination step in the Heck arylation of an acyclic olefin. The structural scope of this palladium-catalyzed cascade arylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated sulfones has proved to be wide with regard to substitution at the beta-position (alkyl, aryl, or alkenyl substitution), substitution at the sulfone unit (alkyl or phenyl sulfones), and configuration at the CdoublebondC bond (trans or cis). Moreover, although less favored than in the case of the arylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated sulfones, similarly substituted 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes have also been obtained in the case of alpha,beta-unsaturated phosphine oxides and alpha,beta-unsaturated phosphonate esters. A Pd(0)-Pd(II)-Pd(IV) mechanistic pathway involving the successive formation of highly electrophilic sigma-alkylpalladium intermediates and palladacycles is proposed for this multicomponent arylation.

Synthesis of fluorinated imines and carbodiimides from azides via aza-Wittig reaction

The Staudinger reaction of fluoroalkylazides were studied. A series of N-fluoroalkylimines were synthesized via aza-Wittig reaction of N-fluoroalkyliminophosphoranes. The N,N′-difluoroalkylated carbodiimide was also synthesized via the reaction of N-fluoroalkyliminophosphoranes with carbon dioxide or carbon disulfide.     

Effects of temperature and anion type on the two-dimensional condensation of the 4,4′-bipyridine cation radical on mercury

The reduction of 4,4′-bipyridine (BPH²⁺₂) on mercury in an acid medium gives a very narrow sharp tail-less reversible voltammetric peak that can be ascribed to the formation of a two-dimensional (2D) phase of the cation radical BPH^·+₂ at the electrode according to the reaction

BPH²⁺₂ + e⁻ |BPH^·+₂|_2D

The corresponding oxidation peak possesses similar properties and arises from the destruction (fusion) of the 2D phase.In this work we studied the influence of some experimental variables, namely the type of anion present in the medium, the concentration of 4,4′-bipyridine and temperature on the 2D phase transition peaks. Also, we tested various analytical criteria to validate this assignation and fitted both voltammetric peaks numerically to the theoretical model developed for this purpose.     

Stereoselective synthesis of hyptolide and 6-epi-hyptolide

The first stereoselective syntheses of the naturally occurring, ,β-unsaturated lactone hyptolide 1 and of its nonnatural epimer at C-6 are described. Ethyl l-lactate was the chiral starting material. Key steps of these syntheses were a Brown's asymmetric allylation, a Carreira's asymmetric ethynylation and a ring closing metathesis.     

Hybridized local and charge-transfer excited state fluorophores enabling organic light-emitting diodes with record high efficiencies close to 20%

Pure organic emitters with full utilization of triplet excitons are in high demand for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Herein, through modulation of electron donors and introduction of phenyl rings as π spacers, we present three pure organic fluorophores (BCz, BTCz and BPTCz) with the hybridized local and charge-transfer (HLCT) excited state feature for OLED fabrication. Importantly, the introduction of π spacers in BPTCz not only enhances locally excited character with a fast radiative decay but also promotes intermolecular interactions to suppress non-radiative decays, contributing to a high solid-state fluorescence efficiency over 90%. Significantly, BPTCz not only endows its doped OLEDs with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) up to 19.5%, but also its non-doped OLED with a high EQE of 17.8%, and these outstanding efficiencies are the state-of-the-art performances of HLCT-based OLEDs.

Three purely organic fluorophores with a hybridized local and charge-transfer excited state feature are presented and enabled organic light-emitting diodes with record high external quantum efficiencies close to 20%.
