A Spectroscopic Study of Charge Transfer Complexes of Tetraphenylporphyrin

Summary. The fluorescence quenching and complexation behaviour of tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) with some organic acceptors such as chloranilic acid (CHL), 5,5-dithiobis-2-nitrobenzoic acid (DTNB), or 3,4-dinitrobenzoic acid (DNB) and tetravalent metal ions such as Th⁴⁺ and Zr⁴⁺ have been studied in methanol. The second-order fluorescence quenching rate constant (k_q), the association constant (K), the molar absorption coefficient (), and the thermodynamic parameters of the complexation process (G°, H°, and S°) have been evaluated using different organic solvents.     

A rapid-scanning autocorrelation scheme for continuous monitoring of picosecond laser pulses

We describe a scheme for rapidly introducing a periodic linear time delay to a train of picosecond laser pulses. By incorporating this scheme in one arm of the Michelson interferometer of a conventional autocorrelator, the second order intensity autocorrelation function of a cw train of picosecond pulses is continuously displayed on an oscilloscope.     

Mössbauer studies of57Co-doped layered perovskites

Mössbauer spectra of⁵⁷Co-doped polycrystalline or single-crystal samples of layered perovskites La₂Mo₄ (M=Cu, Co, Ni) and R₂CuO₄ (R=Nd, Eu, Gd) were recorded at room temperature and below. Of the samples studied, only La₂CuO₄ shows a widely separated doublet at room temperature and a single clearly resolved sextet well belowT _N.     

Mössbauer study of the effect of boron and iron contents on the dynamic behavior of iron in sodium phosphate glass system

Mössbauer measurements were performed at different temperatures in order to examine the dynamic behavior of iron in the glass system: 42.5% P₂O₅, 42.5% Na₂O, 15% Fe₂O₃. Variation of the dynamic behavior was traced by substituting B₂O₃ for P₂O₅ [30 P₂O₅, 12.5 B₂O₃, 42.5 Na₂O, 15 Fe₂O₃] and by increasing the amount of iron at the expense of Na₂O [42.5 P₂O₃, 15 Na₂O, 42.5 Fe₂O₃]. The Mössbauer measurements gave the values of Debye temperature (_D), mean square displacement <²>, mean square velocity <v ² > of oscillation, the lattice time () and the strength parameter (B) for each glass. These values were discussed with the results of DTA, density, hardness and D. C. conductivity.

Effect of surface roughness on the optical constants of bulk polycrystalline gold samples

Four bulk polycrystalline samples of gold were subjected to different polishing treatments using diamond pastes of grain size 10, 6, 3 and 1 μm. The effect of surface roughness on the optical constants n and k is studied by 45° angle-of-incidence ellipsometry at 632.8 nm. Results for n and k are extrapolated to the case of an ideal surface which we believe to be highly representative of gold. Comparison with published results for the optical constants of gold thin films is presented.
