A simple procedure for the preparation of octadecylsiloxane self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on float glass substrates is described. The method utilizes commercial octadecyltriethoxysilane, OTE: n-C18H37Si(OCH2CH3)3, as the SAM precursor, with deposition accomplished in toluene solution using n-butylamine as catalyst. This synthetic approach obviates the use of the problematic trichlorosilanes typically required for the preparation of high quality SAMs, and is characterized by a wide 'process window,' utilizing off-the-shelf reagents without special handling. 相似文献

Multiplicative programs are a difficult class of nonconvex programs that have received increasing attention because of their many applications. However, given their nonconvex nature, few theoretical results are available. In this paper, we study a particular case of these programs which involves the maximization of a quasiconcave function over a linear constraint set. Using results from conjugate function theory and generalized geometric programming, we derive a complete duality theory. The results are further specialized to linear multiplicative programming. 相似文献

New light‐activated antimicrobial materials with a potentially wide range of possible uses in civilian settings were synthesized by the grafting of protoporphyrin IX and zinc protoporphyrin IX to nylon fibers. These fibers were shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus at light exposures of 10,000 lux and greater and against Escherichia coli at 60,000 lux. They were ineffective against both strains in the absence of light. At 40,000 lux, these fibers showed increased antimicrobial activity against S. aureus with increasing exposure time. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Inositol orthoesters have been developed as precursors to stereodefined hexakis polyoxygenated cyclohexanes. The objective of the study was to determine if all-trans systems could be coaxed by alkali metal ions into adopting the all-axial coordinative features. This high level coordination cannot be matched by epimers whose only option is to experience monocomplexation. Only very low levels of coordination were exhibited in solution by the ligands in question. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry was also used to evaluate the metal complexation properties of the inositol ligands based on competition experiments involving each ligand and one or more metals. 相似文献

Selective graft modifications of polypropylene (PP) are demonstrated in which desirable functionality is introduced without the degradation that accompanies conventional radical‐mediated processes. A range of modification strategies is presented, each exploiting triallyl trimellitate (TATM) or its derivatives to counteract the effects of macroradical fragmentation on the molecular weight. Model compound studies, as well as examinations of atactic PP reaction products, show that allylic ester activation occurs predominately by a radical‐addition/hydrogen‐transfer sequence, with a limited propensity for telomerization. The cografting of TATM and maleic anhydride leads to maleated PP of a high melt viscosity, whereas the apparent incompatibility of TATM with vinyltrimethoxysilane requires the use of TATM‐assisted thiol–ene addition and/or diallyl silane grafting to produce moisture‐curable PP derivatives. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper we present an overview of the radio-frequency muon spin resonance (RFμSR) technique, an analogue to continuous-wave NMR, and an introduction to time-integral (TI) and time-differential (TD) RFμSR on muons in diamagnetic or in paramagnetic environments. The general form of the resonance line for TI-RFμSR as well as the expression for the time-dependence of the longitudinal muon spin polarization at resonance are given. Since RFμSR does not require phase coherence of the muon spin ensemble, this technique allows us to investigate muon species that are generated by transitions from, or in the course of reactions of, a precursor muon species even if in transverse-field (TF) μSR measurements the signal is lost due to dephasing. This ability of RFμSR is clearly demonstrated by measurements on doped Si. In this example, at low temperatures, a very pronounced signal from a muon species in diamagnetic environment has been found in RFμSR measurements, whereas in TFμSR experiments only a very small signal from muons in diamagnetic environment could be detected and a large fraction of the implanted muons escaped detection. These findings could be interpreted in terms of the delayed formation of a diamagnetic muonium-dopant complex, and, due to the large diamagnetic RFμSR signal, the RFμSR technique is a unique tool to study how the variation of parameters and experimental conditions such as illumination affects formation and behavior of these complexes. First results obtained on illuminated boron doped Si are reported. However, as illustrated by the example of experiments on the muonated radical in solid C60, results from conventional TI-RFμSR cannot always be interpreted unambiguously since different parameters, namely the fraction of muons forming the investigated muon species, the longitudinal and the transverse relaxation rates, have similar effects on height and shape of the RFμSR resonance line. These ambiguities, however, may be resolved by collecting time-differential data. With this extension RFμSR becomes a very powerful complementary method to TFμSR in the studies of dynamic effects. 相似文献

We describe an implementation of the tabu search metaheuristic that effectively finds a low-cost topology for a communications network to provide a centralized new service. Our results are compared to those of a greedy algorithm which applies corresponding decision rules, but without the guidance of the tabu search framework. These problems are difficult computationally, representing integer programs that can involve as many as 10,000 integer variables and 2000 constraints in practical applications. The tabu search results approach succeeded in obtaining significant improvements over the greedy approach, yielding optimal solutions to problems small enough to allow independent verification of optimality status and, more generally, yielding both absolute and percentage cost improvements that did not deteriorate with increasing problem size.This research was partially supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the Office of Naval Research Contract No. F49629-90-C-0033. 相似文献

This paper reports on thedevelopment of a very efficient method for partitioning the networksimplex basis subtree in which dual values must be updated duringa pivot. The partitioning procedure may be concurrently executedby multiple processes. The resulting rapid decomposition of thesubtree allows an arbitrary number of processes to be utilized inthe actual dual update. This approach alleviates a primary limitationof the most efficient parallel network simplex implementationpublished to date. The new code performs at least as well as theprevious implementation on medium-scale problems and reduces averagesolution time by over 34% on large-scale problems. 相似文献

We demonstrate a kinetically-driven patterning scheme to selectively position arrays of Ge or Si nanoparticles within lithographically defined HfO2 windows. The surface reactions enabling patterning are revealed through temperature programmed desorption experiments and selectivity of the deposition is verified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Patterning is possible by exploiting the different reactivity of Ge and Si on HfO2 and SiO2 surfaces and employing a sacrificial SiO2 mask on which adatoms etch the SiO2 surface and do not accumulate to form nanocrystals. 相似文献

This paper focuses on the estimation of some models in finance and in particular, in interest rates. We analyse discretized versions of the constant elasticity of variance (CEV) models where the normal law showing up in the usual discretization of the diffusion part is replaced by a range of heavy‐tailed distributions. A further extension of the model is to allow the elasticity of variance to be a parameter itself. This generalized model allows great flexibility in modelling and simplifies the model implementation considerably using the scale mixtures representation. The mixing parameters provide a means to identify possible outliers and protect inference by down‐weighting the distorting effects of these outliers. For parameter estimation, Bayesian approach is adopted and implemented using the software WinBUGS (Bayesian inference using Gibbs sampler). Results from a real data analysis show that an exponential power distribution with a random shape parameter, which is highly leptokurtic compared with the normal distribution, forms the best CEV model for the data.
