An effective modeling and solution approach for the generalized independent set problem

The generalized independent set (GIS) problem was first introduced by Hochbaum and Pathria (Forest Sci 43(4), 544–554, 1997) and independently explored in greater detail by Hochbaum (Manage Sci 50(6), 709–123, 2004). This problem, with applications in forest management and a variety of related areas, is a generalization of the classical maximum independent set problem. In this paper we highlight a natural, nonlinear formulation for the problem that is an attractive alternative to the linear model found in the literature. The effectiveness of this alternative formulation is demonstrated by computational experience on test problems of varying size and density, disclosing a dramatic reduction in the time to obtain optimal and near optimal solutions and an ability to solve much larger problems.     

Computational and algorithmic aspects of cardinal spline-wavelets

Pascal triangles are formulated for computing the coefficients of the B-spline series representation of the compactly supported spline-wavelets with minimum support and their derivatives. It is shown that with the alternating signs removed, all these sequences are totally positive. On the other hand, truncations of the reciprocal Euler-Frobenius polynomials lead to finite sequences for orthogonal wavelet decompositions. For this purpose, sharp estimates are given in terms of the exact reconstruction of these approximate decomposed components. 全同粒子间的玻色－爱因斯坦关联可以用来研究相对论性核碰撞中次级粒子源分布及有关的物理问题．本文用强子级联模型（ＨＣＭ）模拟２８Ｓｉ（１４．６ＡＧＣＶ／ｃ）＋Ａｕ反应，得到π－粒子的ｆｒｅｅｚｅ－ｏｕｔ状态，进而计算了π－π－关联函数，取得与实验一致的结果．还计算了ｆｒｅｅｚｅ—ｏｕｔπ－源的均方根线度，并讨论了它与拟合方法抽取的源参数间的关系．     

Synthesis of some chiral liquid crystals and study of the effect of intramolecular hydrogen bonding on the phase behaviour

The synthesis of three new series of chiral Schiff's bases containing benzilideneaniline and 2-hydroxybenzilideneaniline moieties as mesogenic cores is presented. Differential scanning calorimetry, optical polarizing microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements were used to study the phase transition temperatures and behaviour. The results reveal that most of these materials show chiral smectic mesomorphism.     

Miniature InGaAsP/InP phase modulator for integrated opto-electronics

Miniature, etching ridge InGaAsP/InP Phase Modulator with highly efficient phase shifting efficiency of 60°/V.mm and 43°/V.mm for TE and TM modes, respectively, and 3 dB bandwidth of 650 MHz at 1.52 μm are reported. It is well suited for integrated opto-electronics. Some functions depending on bandwidth of the devices are discussed.     

Asymptotic expansion for the density of states of the magnetic Schrödinger operator with a random potential

We study the asymptotics for the density of states of the magnetic Schrödinger operator with a random potential. By using the methods of effective Hamiltonian, complex dilation and complex translation, we obtain in the large magnetic field limit, the asymptotic expansion for the density of states measure considered as a distribution.

红外折/衍混合离轴望远系统设计

本文针对空间光学系统轻型特点,设计了一个二元光学折/衍混合红外反射式望远系统。采用了离轴式格里高利(Gregorian)结构形式,消除了望远系统中的中心遮拦问题。用衍射光学元件校正系统象差,使反射面为球面,二元光学表面尺寸比施密特(Schmidt)校正板(位于入瞳处)缩小于3～4倍,光学设计运用OSLO软件,光学系统的通光孔径φ=120mm,焦距f=-1000mm,波长λ=4.3μm,视场2ω=2°×6°(子午×弧矢),分辨率Res=0.05mm,MTF≥0.4(空间频率fre≤10cl/mm).
