A new method for modification of <Emphasis Type="Italic">CN</Emphasis>-palladacycles

The reaction of benzylaminate CN-palladacycle with chlorine dioxide was found to produce the 3-chlorine-substituted analog through the formal insertion of chlorine into the Pd-C bond followed by repeated ortho-palladation of the modified ligand. The structure of the resulting dimeric complex was confirmed by X-ray diffraction study of its triphenylphosphine derivative. A comparison of the ¹H NMR spectra of the phosphine adducts of the starting and chlorinated complexes shows high conformational stability of the new palladacycle. Advantages of the new route to conformational stabilization of labile palladacycles are discussed. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. H2O‐Catalyzed Route to Early Lanthanide Tribromide THF and DME Solvates from Oxides

A convenient one‐pot synthetic protocol towards THF and DME solvates of lanthanum and other early lanthanide tribromides was developed using the water‐catalyzed reaction of lanthanide(III) oxides with highly reactive Me₃SiBr in situ formed from commercially available disilane Si₂Me₆ and Br₂. This practical route allows to obtain the target lanthanum tribromide solvates [LaBr₃(thf)₄] ( 1a ) and [LaBr₃(dme)₂]₂ ( 1b ) as well as analogous early lanthanide molecular tribromide solvates [NdBr₃(thf)₄] ( 2a ), [NdBr₃(dme)₂] ( 2b ), [SmBr₃(thf)₂] ( 3a ), and [SmBr₃(dme)₂] ( 3b ) difficult to prepare by other solution‐based procedures. The molecular structure of 1b· 2CH₂Cl₂ was determined by an XRD study.     

Synthesis and structural consideration of 1‐chloro‐N,N′,N″‐tris(pentafluorophenyl)azagermatrane: Azagermatrane with the shortest intramolecular N → Ge bond

Two compounds of a novel‐type azagermatrane, N(CH₂CH₂NC₆F₅)₃Ge‐Hal: HalCl ( 1 ), Br ( 2 ), were prepared via a metathetical reaction of trilithium salt of tetramine, N[CH₂CH₂N(Li)C₆F₅]₃, with corresponding GeHal₄. A single crystal structure of 1 was determined by the X‐ray diffraction study: The compound shows the strongest transannular N_ax → Ge interaction (2.148(7) Å) among other studied azagermatranes. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. X-ray diffraction study of mesogenic 4-methoxyphenyl-4′-n-nonyloxybenzoate

4-methoxyphenyl-4′-n-nonyloxybenzoate have been investigated by single crystal X-ray structural analysis. Crystal packing of the compounds does not represent a precursor of the mesophse although the typical for liquid crystal compounds separation of crystal packing on aromatic and aliphatic areas is observed here. Possible reason for monotropic properties are discussed.
