Visual spatial memory is enhanced in female rats (but inhibited in males) by dietary soy phytoestrogens

Background  

In learning and memory tasks, requiring visual spatial memory (VSM), males exhibit superior performance to females (a difference attributed to the hormonal influence of estrogen). This study examined the influence of phytoestrogens (estrogen-like plant compounds) on VSM, utilizing radial arm-maze methods to examine varying aspects of memory. Additionally, brain phytoestrogen, calbindin (CALB), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) levels were determined.     

The measurement of the absorption spectra of chlorine e 6 photosensitizer and hemoglobin in whole blood by multiple light scattering

The potential of using multiple light scattering methods to monitor the state and concentration of photosensitizer and hemoglobin in whole blood is demonstrated. Samples of whole blood with various contents of chlorine e ₆ photosensitizer were studied in the spectral region of 620–850 nm. On the basis of experimentally measured coefficients of diffuse reflection and transmission, absorption spectra of blood with and without the photosensitizer and the concentrations of oxy-, deoxy-, and methemoglobin in the samples are calculated. On the basis of this information, the absorption spectrum of chlorine e ₆ in whole blood is reconstructed and its state and concentration are estimated for the first time. It is found that chlorine e ₆ in whole blood occurs mainly in the monomer form.     

The RH boundary value problem of the k-monogenic functions

In this paper we study the Riemann and Hilbert problems of k-monogenic functions. By using Euler operator, we transform the boundary value problem of k-monogenic functions into the boundary value problems of monogenic functions. Then by the Almansi-type theorem of k-monogenic functions, we get the solutions of these problems.     

“吕”字形巷道布置的卸压机理分析

利用有限元法分析了综放采场瓦斯巷和回风巷或运输巷采用“吕”字形布置后的卸压机理，得到了上部瓦斯巷宽度对下部回风巷或运输巷卸压效果的定量关系，为改革综放采场巷道布置并提高瓦斯巷抽放效果提供了新的设计思路和可靠依据。     

石墨烯纳米带电极区N掺杂电子输运性质研究

运用密度泛函理论和非平衡格林函数结合的方法,研究电极区N掺杂对扶手椅型石墨烯纳米带电子输运特性的影响.结果表明,与本征扶手椅型石墨烯纳米带电流-电压曲线相比,宽度为7的石墨烯纳米带电流-电压曲线表现出明显的不对称性,其中心N掺杂表现强烈的整流特性,整流系数达到102数量级,且将N原子从电极区中心位置移动到边缘,整流特性减弱.研究结果表明宽度为7的扶手椅型石墨烯纳米带出现强整流现象的原因主要是负向偏压下能量窗内没有透射峰引起的,该研究结果对将来石墨烯整流器件的设计具有重要的意义.     

Plutonium concentration and <Superscript>240</Superscript>Pu/<Superscript>239</Superscript>Pu isotopic ratio in the surface soils from the Jiuquan region in northwestern China

Surface soil samples collected in the Jiuquan region in the downwind area of the Chinese nuclear test site (CNTs) were analyzed for Pu isotopes. The ^239+240Pu activities ranged from 0.025 ± 0.009 to 0.89 ± 0.16 mBq g^?1, varying significantly with different sampling sites. The Dunhuang city that is located in the southwestern part of the Jiuquan region received the heaviest Pu deposition (^239+240Pu activities, 0.23–0.89 mBq g^?1). Most of the ²⁴⁰Pu/²³⁹Pu isotopic ratios were similar with that of the global fallout. However, the low values (0.080–0.147) observed in three sampling sites further supported the finding of Pu originated from CNTs in that region.     

POSS-modified PEG adhesives for wound closure

PEG-related adhesives are limited in clinical use because they are easy to swell and cannot support the cell growth.In this study,we produced a series of POSS-modified PEG adhesives with high adhesive strength.Introduction of inorganic hydrophobic POSS units decreased the swelling of the adhesives and enhanced cell adhesion and growth.The in vitro cytotoxicity and in vivo inflammatory response experiments clearly demonstrated that the adhesives were nontoxic and possessed excellent biocompatibility.Compared with the sutured wounds,the adhesive-treated wounds showed an accelerated healing process in wounded skin model of the Bama miniature pig,demonstrating that the POSS-modified PEG adhesive is a promising candidate for wound closure.
