A Crop Planning Problem with Fuzzy Random Profit Coefficients

The main purpose of this paper is to present a crop planning problem for agricultural management under uncertainty. It is significant that agricultural managers assign their limited farmlands to cultivation of which crops in a season. This planning is called the crop planning problem and influences their incomes for the season. Usually, the crop planning problem is formulated as a linear programming problem. But there are many uncertain factors in agricultural problems, so future profits for crops are not certain values. A linear programming model with constant profit coefficients may not reflect the environment of decision making properly. Therefore, we propose a model of crop planning with fuzzy profit coefficients, and an effective solution procedure for the model. Furthermore, we extend this fuzzy model, setting the profit coefficients as discrete randomized fuzzy numbers. We show concrete optimal solutions for each models.     

Dispersion and current-voltage characteristics of helical polyacetylene single fibers

To study the transport properties of individual helical polyacetylene (PA) fibers, we developed a method to extract a single fiber from tightly entangled ropes of helical PA bulk film. After a few minutes of sonication of a piece of helical PA bulk film in an organic solution containing surfactant, a droplet of solution is deposited on the pre-pattened electrode under argon atmosphere. AFM images show that extracted helical PA fibers are typically 10 mum in length and 100-200 nm in diameter. We found that the helicity of bulk materials is conserved. We present the temperature dependencies of current-voltage characteristics of individual helical PA fibers doped with iodine.     

Lipase TL-mediated kinetic tesolution of 5-benzyloxy-1-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2-pentanol at low temperature: concise asymmetric synthesis of both enantiomers of a piperazic acid derivative

Lipase TL-mediated kinetic resolution of (+/-)-5-benzyloxy-1-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2-pentanol (5) at low temperature proceeded to give the corresponding (S)-alcohol 5 and (R)-acetate 6 in quantitative yields with high enantiomeric purity. The addition of bases such as pyridine, DMAP, 2,4- and 2,6-lutidines, or triethylamine considerably enhanced the rate of kinetic resolution. The alcohol (S)-5 and the acetate (R)-6 were converted to piperazic acid derivatives (R)- and (S)-3, respectively, via the intramolecular Mitsunobu reaction as a key step.

Evaluation of a spectrum target prediction model in speech perception

A model of a spectrum target prediction mechanism is proposed and evaluated by comparing predicted values with results of psychoacoustic experiments. When the trajectory of the cepstrally smoothed LPC spectrum is approximated by a second-order critically damped system, the proposed model can estimate target values using short-period spectrum sequences (50 ms) without being given the onset positions of the spectral transition. Additionally, this model decreases the length of transitional sounds and recovers vowel characteristics neutralized by coarticulation. Moreover, this model compensates for the transitions of syllables and extracts stable characteristics from syllable transitions. This model is applicable to coarticulation recovery in speech signal processing.

Effect of void structure on the toughness of double network hydrogels

Introduction of soft filler in a hard body, which is one of the common toughening methods of hard polymeric materials, was applied for further toughening of robust double network (DN) hydrogels composed of poly(2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonic acid) gels (PAMPS gels) as the first component and polyacrylamide (PAAm) as the second component. The fracture energy of the DN gels with the void structure (called void‐DN gels) became twice when the volume fraction of void was 1–3 vol % and the void diameter was much larger than the Flory radius of the PAAm chains. Such toughening was induced by wider range of internal fracture of the PAMPS network derived from partial stress concentration near void structure. Considering the mechanical tests and the dynamic light scattering results, it is implied that the absence of the load‐bearing PAAm structure inside the void is important for the toughening. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
