The present study describes the exploitation of microbial biodiversity from Western Ghats of Kerala for screening of bioactives having β-lactamase inhibitory activities. A total of 700 pure cultures were isolated and were screened for antibacterial activity against a β-lactam resistant Bacillus cereus strain (PL 10) isolated from the same niche. Bioactive extracts made from 45 isolates showed inhibitory activities against PL 10, of which two strains showed inhibition of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella ESBL1101 and three strains inhibited methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain MRSA831. All these five strains showed wide spectrum antimicrobial activity against various fungi and bacteria. These five cultures were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and biochemical tests and the preliminary characterizations of their bioactive extracts were carried out. This study suggests the potential of bioactives from two inhibitor–producer strains, NII 167 and NII 1054, for being developed as inhibitors against wide spectrum β-lactam resistant strains.  相似文献

We report preliminary experiments on the ternary-liquid mixture, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK)+water (W)+secondary butyl alcohol (sBA)--a promising system for the realization of the quadruple critical point (QCP). The unusual tunnel-shaped phase diagram shown by this system is characterized and visualized by us in the form of a prismatic phase diagram. Light-scattering experiments reveal that (MEK+W+sBA) shows near three-dimensional-Ising type of critical behavior near the lower critical solution temperatures, with the susceptibility exponent (gamma) in the range of 1.217< or =gamma< or =1.246. The correlation length amplitudes (xio) and the critical exponent (nu) of the correlation length (xi) are in the ranges of 3.536< or =xio < or =4.611 A and 0.619< or =nu< or =0.633, respectively. An analysis in terms of the effective susceptibility exponent (gammaeff) shows that the critical behavior is of the Ising type for MEK concentrations in the ranges of 0.1000< or =X< or =0.1250 and X> or =0.3000. But, for the intermediate range of 0.1750< or =X<0.3000, the system shows a tendency towards mean-field type of critical behavior. The advantages of the system (MEK+W+sBA) over the system (3-methylpyridine+water+heavy water+potassium Iodide) for the realization of a QCP are outlined.  相似文献

The degradation and mineralization of orange-G (OG) in aqueous solutions by means of ultrasound irradiation at a frequency of 213 kHz and its combination with a heterogeneous photocatalyst (TiO2) were investigated. The effects of various operational parameters such as, the concentration of the dye and solution pH on the degradation efficiency were studied. The degradation of the dye followed first-order like kinetics under the conditions examined. The sonolytic degradation of OG was relatively higher at pH 5.8 than that at pH 12. However, an alkaline pH was favoured for the photocatalytic degradation of OG using TiO2. Total organic carbon (TOC) measurements were also carried out in order to evaluate the mineralization efficiency of OG using sonolysis, photocatalysis and sonophotocatalysis. The hybrid technique of sonophotocatalytic degradation was compared with the individual techniques of photocatalysis and sonolysis. A simple additive effect was observed during the sonophotocatalytic oxidation of OG using TiO2 indicating that the combined treatment offers no synergistic enhancement. TOC results also support the additive effect in the dual treatment process.  相似文献

High-spin states in 123Cs, populated via the 100Mo ( 28Si, p4n) fusion-evaporation reaction at E lab = 130 MeV, have been investigated employing in-beam γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. Rotational bands, built on πg 7/2, πg 9/2 and the unique-parity πh 11/2 orbitals, have been extended and evolve into bands involving rotationally aligned ν(h 11/2)2 and π(h 11/2)2 quasiparticles. A three-quasiparticle band based on the high-K πh 11/2 ⊗ νg 7/2 ⊗ νh 11/2 configuration has also been observed. Total Routhian Surface (TRS) calculations have been used to predict the nuclear shape parameters ( β2, β4, γ) for the various assigned configurations. The assigned configurations have been discussed in the framework of a microscopic theory based on the deformed Hartree-Fock (HF) and angular-momentum projection techniques.  相似文献

To characterize the physicochemical and biological stability of nanodevices suitable for biomedical applications, polylactic acid (PLA) nanoparticles (NPs) of 112?±?6 nm and polyhydroxy butyrate (PHB) of 15?±?5 nm size were prepared by standardizing the suitable method for each. Morphology of NPs was studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy and temperature stability by thermogravimetric analysis. Their stability in biological fluids (simulated gastrointestinal and saliva) and tolerance against 0.5 mM NaCl were analyzed. PHB NPs remained stable in all fluids, while after 24 h treatment, the PLA NPs showed the beginning of disintegration with intestinal fluid mimic. In addition to the preparation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) surface-coated NPs, PLA–PEG–PLA triblock copolymer (MW?~?7,366 Da) was also chemically synthesized and characterized. Cytotoxicity of all forms of nanoparticles was tested by MTT assay and by annexin pi staining.  相似文献

This review (with 129 refs.) gives an overview on how the integration of silica nanowires (NWs) into micro-scale devices has resulted, in recent years, in simple yet robust nano-instrumentation with improved performance in targeted application areas such as sensing. This has been achieved by the use of appropriate techniques such as di-electrophoresis and direct vapor-liquid-growth phenomena, to restrict the growth of NWs to site-specific locations. This also has eliminated the need for post-growth processing and enables nanostructures to be placed on pre-patterned substrates. Various kinds of NWs have been investigated to determine how their physical and chemical properties can be tuned for integration into sensing structures. NWs integrated onto interdigitated micro-electrodes have been applied to the determination of gases and biomarkers. The technique of directly growing NWs eliminates the need for their physical transfer and thus preserves their structure and performance, and further reduces the costs of fabrication. The biocompatibility of NWs also has been studied with respect to possible biological applications. This review addresses the challenges in growth and integration of NWs to understand related mechanism on biological contact or gas exposure and sensing performance for personalized health and environmental monitoring.

Yrast and near-yrast energy levels in the neutron-rich N ∼ 20 nuclei 34P, 36S were populated using transfer/deep-inelastic processes following the 34S + 115In reaction at an incident energy of 140MeV. The use of a multi-clover array has facilitated polarization measurements of the observed γ-rays and necessitated some changes in the previously known level scheme. The observation of the negative-parity levels in these nuclei on the periphery of the “island of inversion” is indicative of the influence of the intruder orbitals on the level structure at low spins. Shell-model calculations indicate that the inclusion of the orbitals from the upper pf shell is important even for the low-lying positive-parity states.  相似文献
