Two experimental methods of measuring masses of exotic nuclei in the storage ring ESR are presented. Bismuth and nickel fragments were produced via projectile fragmentation, separated and investigated with the combination of the fragment separator FRS and the ESR: (i) Direct mass measurements of relativistic projectile fragments were performed using Schottky mass spectrometry (SMS), i.e., exotic nuclei were stored and cooled in the ESR. Applying electron cooling, the relative velocity spread of circulating low intensity beams can be reduced below 10−6. Under this condition a mass resolving power of up to m/Δm=6.5·105 (FWHM) was achieved in a recent measurement. Previously unknown masses of more than 100 neutron-deficient isotopes have been measured in the range of 60≤Z≤84. Using known Q α values the area of known masses could be extended to more exotic nuclei and to higher proton numbers. The results are compared with mass models and extrapolations of experimental values. In a second experiment with 209Bi projectiles the area of the measured masses was extended to lower proton numbers. Due to various improvements at the ESR the precision of the measurements could be raised. (ii) Exotic nuclei with half-lives shorter than the time needed for SMS (present limit: T 1/2 ≈ 5 sec) can be investigated by time-of-flight measurements whereby the ESR is operated in the isochronous mode. This novel experimental technique has been successfully applied in first measurements with nickel and neon fragments where a mass resolving power of m/Δm=1.5·105 (FWHM) was achieved.  相似文献

The composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in a soil is the product of a variety of soil processes. Changes in the composition of DOM in water discharged from soil should, therefore, give an important insight into modifications in these soil processes. We hypothesise that these processes in soils, under different grassland management regimes, would be affected to different extents by the short-term disturbance of a storm event and that evidence of this could be detected in delta(13)C and delta(15)N signatures in drainage and surface runoff waters. During a storm event we collected discharge waters from 1 ha grassland lysimeters, with or without artificial drainage, which received contrasting fertiliser inputs, and delta(13)C and delta(15)N signatures were determined. Changes in (13)C enrichment during the storm event were clearly identifiable, as were differences between plots for (13)C and (15)N, illustrating that this technique has potential to be a useful tool for identifying and investigating short- and long-term changes in soil organic matter dynamics. Theα-branching ratios (b α ) of192,190,188Pb are measured using mass-separated sources. Different experimental set-ups are used — one detector as well as two detector set-ups — thereby detecting theα particles from the parent and/or viaα decay formed daughter nuclei, theβ-delayed gamma radiation from the parent and/or viaβ decay formed daughter nuclei and the Tl KX rays from electron capture decay. Values forb α of 6.2(6) 10?5 and 4.0(4) 10-3 were found for192,190Pb respectively. For188Pb, limits on theb α values were obtained: 0.03<b α <0.10. A careful analysis of the previously reportedb α values showed that the discrepancies in theb α values were not due to inadequate correction procedures, as was suggested, but to experimental uncertainties in the efficiency determination of the different detection set-ups and to an unreliableβ-decay scheme for188Pb. Theb α obtained in this work show that the leadα decay is not faster than the Hgα decay and that there is no need to assume a disappearance of theZ=82 shell closure halfway betweenN=82 andN=126.  相似文献

By collincar fast beam laser spectroscopy hyperfine structure and isotope shift have been measured of neutron deficient radioactive isotopes of lead (190Pb,191Pb,192Pb,193Pb,194Pb,195Pb,196Pb,197Pb) and thallium (188Tl190Tl,191Tl,192Tl,194Tl,196Tl). Therefrom nuclear magnetic dipole moments, electric quadrupole moments, changes of the mean square charge radii and deformation parameters are deduced and compared with predictions from theory.  相似文献

Theβ-decay branch of180Lu to180m Hf is measured by an integral method tracing the amount of180m Hf daughter activity, to be 0.46 (15)%. Samples of180Lu are prepared by on-line mass separation of136Xe-on-tungsten transfer reaction products. The amount of isobaric180m Hf in the samples is strongly suppressed by the employed separator ion source; its directly produced fraction is derived from comparison with177m Hf activity. The properties of lutetium and hafnium release from the ion source are separately determined. With this measurementr-process nucleosynthesis is estimated to account for at most 22% of the solar180m Ta abundance.  相似文献

The hyperfine structure splittings (hfs) and isotope shifts (IS) in the atomic transitions 5s 2 5p 2 1 S 0 → 5s 2 5p6s 1,3 P 1 have been measured for the radioactive isotopes108?111Sn and all stable ones. The tin isotopes were prepared as fast atomic beams for collinear laser spectroscopy at the GSI online mass separator following a fusion reaction. Nuclear spins, magnetic dipole, electric quadrupole moments and changes in mean square charge radii have been determined. In109Sn the spinI=5/2 was measured for the nuclear ground state (T 1/2=18 min) in contradiction to the literature value. The mean square charge radii show a parabolic behaviour with a maximum at N=66. This is interpreted by collective effects, which are considerably stronger than accounted for by theB(E2)-values.  相似文献
