Some new results on superimposed codes

A (w,r) cover‐free family is a family of subsets of a finite set such that no intersection of w members of the family is covered by a union of r others. A (w,r) superimposed code is the incidence matrix of such a family. Such a family also arises in cryptography as the concept of key distribution pattern. In the present paper, we give some new results on superimposed codes. First we construct superimposed codes from super‐simple designs which give us results better than superimposed codes constructed by other known methods. Next we prove the uniqueness of the (1,2) superimposed code of size 9 × 12, the (2,2) superimposed code of size 14 × 8, and the (2,3) superimposed code of size 30 × 10. Finally, we improve numerical values of upper bounds for the asymptotic rate of some (w,r) superimposed codes. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Efficient microwave induced direct α-halogenation of carbonyl compounds

A novel and direct method for the synthesis of α-halocarbonyl compounds using sequential treatment of carbonyl compounds with [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene followed by magnesium halides under solvent-free microwave irradiation conditions is described.     

Estimating functionals of one-dimensional Gibbs states

Summary Some estimators of maximum likelihood type are constructed for estimating functionals of one-dimensional Gibbs states. We also show that those estimators are strongly consistent, asymptotically normal and asymptotically efficient.     

OADM环网的实验研究

研究了光分插复用器(OADM)的关键技术,重点分析了相关的实现技术,完成了利用OADM构建全光环网的实验研究,给出了重要的实验数据,包括眼图、光谱图、光信噪比、保护与恢复等,并对这些实验数据进行了分析,为光传送网的设计与构建提供了重要的参考依据.     

Characterizations of Tb:Zn2SiO4 films on silicon wafer prepared by sol-gel dip-coating and solid-phase reaction

Terbium-doped Zn_2SiO_4 films were successfully prepared on Si wafers by a simple sol-gel dip-coating and solid-phase reaction method of ZnO and SiO_2. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV－Vis absorption results revealed that films processed below 850℃ were ZnO in wurzite structure, and films processed above 850℃ were Zn_2SiO_4 in wellimite structure. Photoluminescence measurements of the Tb-doped Zn_2SiO_4 films showed two strong emission bands at 490 and 545nm. The photoluminescence lifetime was 4.6ms.     

Bounds to optimal burn‐in and optimal work size

Burn‐in is a widely used method to improve the quality of products or systems after they have been produced. In this paper, we consider the problem of determining the optimal burn‐in time and optimal work size maximizing the long‐run average amount of work saved per time unit in the computer applications. Assuming that the underlying lifetime distribution of the computer has an initially decreasing or/and eventually increasing failure rate function, an upper bound for the optimal burn‐in time is derived for each fixed work size and a uniform (with respect to the burn‐in time) upper bound for the optimal work size is also obtained. Furthermore, it is shown that a non‐trivial lower bound for the optimal burn‐in time can be derived if the underlying lifetime distribution has a large initial failure rate. Determinant formulas for class numbers in function fields

In this paper, by extending Kucera's idea to the function field case, we obtain several determinant formulas involving the real class number and the relative class number of any subfield of cyclotomic function fields. We also provide several examples using these determinant formulas.

     

Continuously coupled parametric generators and their quantum statistics

In this paper the quantum-statistical properties of light beams propagating in a directional nonlinear coupler are investigated. This device is composed of a pair of linearly coupled nonlinear waveguides operating by means of degenerate parametric downconversion. The possibility of generation of nonclassical states of light in single and compound modes, using the short-length approximation, is discussed. Influence of linear and nonlinear mismatches for generation of nonclassical light is taken into account. Stereoselective synthesis of (+)-lauthisan

Stereoselective synthesis of (+)-lauthisan has been accomplished starting from d-glyceraldehyde acetonide by combination of diastereoselective alkylation and ring-closing metathesis. High degree of 1,3-asymmetric induction has been realized in ether system.
