SnO2 nanosheets grown on graphene sheets with enhanced lithium storage properties

We demonstrate a new hydrothermal method to directly grow SnO(2) nanosheets on a graphene oxide support that is subsequently reduced to graphene. This unique SnO(2)/graphene hybrid structure exhibits enhanced lithium storage properties with high reversible capacities and good cycling performance.     

Single-layer graphene oxide sheet: a novel substrate for dip-pen nanolithography

Graphene oxide (GO) sheet is used as a novel substrate for dip-pen nanolithography (DPN). After GO is transferred onto SiO(2) using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique, CoCl(2) is patterned on both GO and exposed SiO(2) substrates simultaneously by DPN, which is used for growth of different structured carbon nanotubes.

Electrospinning of polyvinylidene difluoride with carbon nanotubes: synergistic effects of extensional force and interfacial interaction on crystalline structures

Polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) solutions containing a very low concentration of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) of similar surface chemistry, respectively, were electrospun, and the nanofibers formed were collected using a modified rotating disk collector. The polymorphic behavior and crystal orientation of the nanofibers were studied using wide-angle X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy, while the nanotube alignment and interfacial interactions in the nanofibers were probed by transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. It is shown that the interfacial interaction between the SWCNTs and PVDF and the extensional force experienced by the nanofibers in the electrospinning and collection processes can work synergistically to induce highly oriented beta-form crystallites extensively. In contrast, the MWCNTs could not be well aligned along the nanofiber axis, which leads to a lower degree of crystal orientation.     

The study of the changes in the thermal properties of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Labeo rohita</Emphasis> bones due to arsenic exposure

The paper presents the changes in the thermal properties of control, arsenic exposed and DMSA treated Labeo rohita bones by using thermo analytical techniques. The result shows that the mass loss due to the thermal decomposition occurs in three distinct steps due to loss of water, organic and inorganic materials. The arsenic exposed bones present a different thermal behaviour compared to the control bones. The residue masses are increased due to arsenic exposure, while the DMSA treatment reduces the residue mass level. These thermal characteristics can be used as a qualitative method to check the metal accumulation in samples.     

The preparation of primary mathematics teachers in Singapore: programs and outcomes from the TEDS-M study

This paper describes five aspects of primary mathematics teacher education in Singapore: (a) the teaching profession in Singapore, (b) the structure of pre-service teacher education programs offered by the National Institute of Education, (c) self-reports of Singapore future primary mathematics teachers about the opportunities to learn mathematics-related contents offered by these programs, based on the Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics (TEDS-M) survey, (d) the performance of these future teachers in mathematics content knowledge and mathematics pedagogical content knowledge assessed by the TEDS-M study, and (e) the relationships of opportunities to learn with this performance. The paper concludes with some suggestions about how to improve the quality of initial teacher preparation in the areas of recruitment and training.
