Samples of Pd/C and Pd–Ag/C, where C represents carbon nanofibers (CNFs), are synthesized by methane decomposition on a Ni–Cu–Fe/Al2O3 catalyst. The properties of Pd/CNF are studied in the reaction of selective hydrogenation of acetylene into ethylene. It is found that the activity of the catalyst in hydrogenation reaction increases, while selectivity decreases considerably when the palladium content rises. The obtained dependences are caused by the features of palladium’s interaction with the carbon support. At a low Pd content (up to 0.04 wt %) in the catalyst, the metal is inserted into the interlayer space of graphite and the catalytic activity is zero. It is established by EXAFS that the main share of palladium in catalysts of 0.05–0.1 wt % Pd/CNF constitutes the metal in the atomically dispersed state. The coordination environment of palladium atoms consists of carbon atoms. An increase in the palladium content in a Pd/CNF catalyst up to 0.3 wt % leads to the formation of highly dispersed (0.8–1 nm) Pd particles. The Pd/CNF samples where palladium is mainly in the atomically dispersed state exhibit the highest selectivity in the acetylene hydrogenation reaction. The addition of silver to a 0.1 wt % Pd/CNF catalyst initially probably leads to the formation of Pd–Ag clusters and then to alloyed Pd–Ag particles. An increase in the silver content in the catalyst above 0.3% causes the enlargement of the alloyed particles and the palladium atoms are blocked by a silver layer, which considerably decreases the catalytic activity in the selective hydrogenation of acetylene.  相似文献

In this study, we present a simple process to obtain highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles on Vulcan XC-72R carbon support without any protective agent. To obtain high metal loading Pd/C catalyst without any surfactant, we modified the polyol process by employing NH3 species as a mediation to control the reaction pathway to avoid the precipitation of Pd(OH)2, and hence the agglomeration of Pd nanoparticles. The obtained Pd/C sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques. The results show that highly dispersed Pd/C catalyst with an average diameter of 3.0 nm could be obtained in this novel process. The activity of formic acid oxidation on this Pd/C catalyst was examined via cyclic voltammetry technique and it is found that the catalytic activity is greatly enhanced due to the reduced particle size and the improved dispersion of palladium nanoparticles on the carbon surface.  相似文献

Nanodiamond–graphene core–shell materials have several unique properties compared with purely sp2‐bonded nanocarbons and perform remarkably well as metal‐free catalysts. In this work, we report that palladium nanoparticles supported on nanodiamond–graphene core–shell materials (Pd/ND@G) exhibit superior catalytic activity in CO oxidation compared to Pd NPs supported on an sp2‐bonded onion‐like carbon (Pd/OLC) material. Characterization revealed that the Pd NPs in Pd/ND@G have a special morphology with reduced crystallinity and are more stable towards sintering at high temperature than the Pd NPs in Pd/OLC. The electronic structure of Pd is changed in Pd/ND@G, resulting in weak CO chemisorption on the Pd NPs. Our work indicates that strong metal–support interactions can be achieved on a non‐reducible support, as exemplified for nanocarbon, by carefully tuning the surface structure of the support, thus providing a good example for designing a high‐performance nanostructured catalyst.  相似文献

Inspired by the attractive catalytic properties of palladium and the inert nature of carbon supports in catalysis, a concise and simple methodology for in situ nitrogen‐doped mesoporous‐carbon‐supported palladium nanoparticles (Pd/N‐C) has been developed by carbonizing a palladium dimethylglyoximate complex. The as‐synthesized Pd/N‐C has been exfoliated as a fuel cell catalyst by studying the electro‐oxidation of methanol and formic acid. The material synthesized at 400 °C,namely, Pd/N‐C‐400,exhibitssuperior mass activity and stability among catalysts synthesized under different carbonization temperaturesbetween300 and 500 °C. The unique 1D porous structure in Pd/N‐C‐400 helps better electron transport at the electrode surface, which eventually leads to about five times better catalytic activity and about two times higher stability than that of commercial Pd/C. Thus, our designed sacrificial metal–organic templatedirected pathway becomes a promising technique for Pd/N‐C synthesis with superior catalytic performances.  相似文献

In this work, the metal dispersion of the Pd/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by sol-gel method is improved by an adequate optimisation of the preparative variables. First, the gelation temperature and the ageing time are selected, in order to avoid the reduction of the metal precursor (palladium acetylacetonate, Pd(acac)2) by the solvent (sec-butanol, sB). The metal sintering effect on the catalysts treated in oxygen at 500°C is then minimized when the alumina pore size is controlled by the variation of the alumium alkoxide (AsB) concentration and the acetic acid amount ([AcA]/[AsB]). The appearance of new palladium particles on the alumina surface and the matching between the particle diameters and the pore sizes were also effective for the metallic surface area improvement on the samples treated in oxygen at 800°C. Compared to the reference catalysts, the higher metal dispersion obtained on the sol-gel ones was the determinant factor for their higher catalytic activity in methane combustion.  相似文献

This review summarizes the results of molecular-level studies on the mechanism of Pd/C catalyst formation from the PdCl2 precursor. Two processes occur in acidic media during the contact of H2PdCl4 with carbon: (a) adsorption of palladium chloride to form surface complexes and (b) redox interaction between PdCl2 and carbon with the formation of palladium metal particles. The ratio between these adsorbed palladium species depends on the conditions of adsorption and especially on the size of carbon support grains and the oxidative atmosphere. The observations are explained by the fact that carbon support exhibits electrochemical and ligand properties. X-ray diffraction, X-ray scattering, XPS, and high-resolution electron microscopy revealed that the nanostructure of carbon materials, in particular the extent of their three-dimensional ordering, is crucial for the ligand properties. The presence of two forms, metallic and ionic, of sorbed palladium determines the bimodal size distribution of the metal. After the reduction of ionic species, metal particles are “blocked” with support. The nature of the ionic forms of palladium (mostly (PdCl2)n) clusters chemically and epitaxially bound to the carbon surface suggests the mechanisms of the bimodal distribution of the supported metal particles on the surface and the methods for the control of the ratio between “blocked,” low-dispersed, and highly-dispersed particles in the catalyst. One of these methods is the use of palladium polynuclear hydroxo complexes (PHCs) with low oxidation potentials as starting compounds for catalysts preparation. The data on the PHC structure in a solution and its change upon the adsorption of PHC on the surface of the carbon material obtained by the17O,23Na,133Cs, and35Cl NMR techniques are discussed. PHCs are shown to be a clew of the [Pd(OH)2]n polymeric filament, whose fractions are bound with alkali metal ions. When PHC is adsorbed on the surface of the carbon support and then dried, palladium oxide is formed from which highly dispersed metal particles are formed during reduction. The nature of alkali metal ions in PHC affects the activity of the Pd/C catalyst. An important role of the ligand, electrochemical, and lyophilic properties of carbon material during the formation of the species of the active catalyst component is discussed.  相似文献

Two polyaniline (PANI) samples of various molecular masses were used for the preparation of palladium catalysts (with 2 mass % of Pd). The physicochemical features of starting polyanilines were found to substantially affect the size and extent of palladium nanoparticles aggregation. Strongly aggregated large palladium particles appeared in the PANI sample of more compact morphology (PANI-H), higher crystallinity and lower specific surface area. Pd nanoparticles of a definitively smaller size were formed in the more amorphous PANI sample of looser morphology (PANI-L) and the extent of particles aggregation was markedly lower. The catalytic properties of Pd/PANI samples were studied in a liquid phase hydrogenation of unsaturated triple bond (C≡C) in alkynes reactants, phenylacetylene, and cyclohexylacetylene. The 2 mass % Pd/PANI-L catalyst prepared using polymer of less compact texture exhibited much higher activity in both reactions. In the presence of the 2 mass % Pd/PANI-L catalyst, alkene products were formed with a high selectivity (approximately 90 %) attained at the almost complete conversion of alkynes. This highly selective hydrogenation of the C≡C to the C=C bond was related to the presence of an electroactive polymer, PANI, in close proximity with Pd active sites. Polyaniline could have a role in a steric effect as well as in a modification of adsorptive properties of Pd centres.  相似文献

Palladium supported on carbon (Pd/C) catalysts (0.55–0.65 wt.% of Pd) were synthesized by pyrolysis of birch sawdust under inert atmosphere proceeded by prolonged impregnation of sawdust in aqueous solution of palladium nitrate. In some cases, hydrothermal treatment (HT) of the pristine sawdust was conducted to modify the specific surface area of the final carbon material applied as a catalyst support. Based on low-temperature nitrogen adsorption technique, it was postulated that HT of sawdust in the liquid phase increases. while HT in the gaseous phase decreases the specific surface area of Pd/C. The obtained catalysts contained Pd particles (size ranged from 2 to 10 nm) both coated and not coated with carbon shell as evidenced by XPS and TEM techniques. The synthesized Pd/C composites provide high conversion of chlorobenzene and high selectivity in respect to benzene in hydrodechlorination reaction performed in a flow fixed-bed reactor in the presence of H2. XPS data for Pd/C composites tested in the catalytic reaction indicate their high resistance to HCl. A minor part of metal Pd was found to transform into PdCl2 and PdO.  相似文献

The effect of two types of catalysts on the activity of the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene was studied. Catalysts were prepared by the surface deposition of palladium hydroxide with a simultaneous reduction with formaldehyde in a basic environment and were characterised by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, adsorption-desorption, and catalytic tests — hydrogenation of nitrobenzene in methanol. The influence of the supports’ (activated carbon and a mixture of activated carbon and multi-walled carbon nanotubes) surface area is discussed. Despite having a size comparable (4–5 nm) to crystallites of metallic palladium, the catalyst prepared on a mixture of activated carbon and nanotubes (Pd/C/CNT) was significantly less active than the catalyst prepared on pure activated carbon (Pd/C); the rate of this reaction was approximately 30 % lower than the initial reaction rate. This feature could be attributed to the lower specific surface area of the Pd/C/CNT (531 m2 g?1) in comparison with the Pd/C (692 m2 g?1).  相似文献

A new 0.1%Pd‐6%Mn/stainless steel wire mesh catalyst was prepared and used for volatile organic compounds (VOC) elimination. The supported palladium and manganese catalyst over the stainless steel wire mesh was prepared by using an impregnation method. When an anodic oxidation technology was employed, an anodic oxidation membrane appeared on the stainless steel wire mesh. On the 0.1%Pd‐6%Mn/stainless steel wire mesh catalyst calcined at 500°C, the total oxidation of toluene, acetone and ethyl acetate was respectively at 260, 220 and 320°C. The activity could be stable for over 700 h for toluene oxidation. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigation of the Pd‐Mn/stainless steel wire mesh catalyst shows that the presence of anodic oxidation membrane on the support surface is important for better dispersion of active phases.  相似文献

A novel nanocatalyst was developed based on covalent surface functionalization of MCM‐41 with polyethyleneimine (PEI) using [3‐(2,3‐Epoxypropoxy)propyl] trimethoxysilane (EPO) as a cross‐linker. Amine functional groups on the surface of MCM‐41 were then conjugated with iodododecane to render an amphiphilic property to the catalyst. Palladium (II) was finally immobilized onto the MCM‐41@PEI‐dodecane and the resulted MCM‐41@aPEI‐Pd nanocatalyst was characterized by FT‐IR, TEM, ICP‐AES and XPS. Our designed nanocatalyst with a distinguished core‐shell structure and Pd2+ ions as catalytic centers was explored as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for Heck and oxidative boron Heck coupling reactions. In Heck coupling reaction, the catalytic activity of MCM‐41@aPEI‐Pd in the presence of triethylamine as base led to very high yields and selectivity. Meanwhile, the MCM‐41@aPEI‐Pd as the first semi‐heterogeneous palladium catalyst was examined in the C‐4 regioselective arylation of coumarin via the direct C‐H activation and the moderate to excellent yields were obtained toward different functional groups. Leaching test indicated the high stability of palladium on the surface of MCM‐41@aPEI‐Pd as it could be recycled for several runs without significant loss of its catalytic activity.  相似文献

A non‐phosgene route synthesis of carbamate was carried out in a continuous fixed‐bed reactor through oxidative carbonylation of aniline using palladium catalysts and sodium iodide as promoter. The activity, selectivity and stability of both carbon and alumina‐supported palladium catalysts were evaluated. It was found that the alumina‐supported catalyst system exhibited a higher activity and selectivity than that of the carbon‐supported system, and an average aniline conversion of 95.6% and carbamate selectivity of 74.6% were achieved for the Se‐Pd/Al2O3 catalyst after 91 h on stream. Reclamation analysis of the spent Pd/C catalyst suggested that the deactivation was mainly due to the leaching and sintering of palladium metal and the accumulation of insoluble chemicals on catalyst support also aggravated the decline of catalyst activity. When small amounts of selenium were added to the Pd/Al2O3 catalyst, its activity, selectivity and stability were significantly improved which indicated that a promotional effect existed for carbamate formation on a Pd‐Se catalyst system.  相似文献

The direct ethanol fuel cell is a green and renewable power source alternative to fossil fuels and produces less emissions compared to a combustion engine. Ethanol can be generated in great quantity from renewable resources like biomass through a fermentation process. Bio-generated ethanol is thus attractive fuel since growing crops for biofuels absorbs much of the carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere from the oxidation of ethanol. The platinum and palladium were co-deposited on graphite substrate by the galvanostatic technique and employed as anode catalyst for ethanol electrooxidation. The information on surface morphology, structural characteristics and bulk composition of the catalyst was obtained using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used for the estimation of the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of the synthesized catalysts in alkaline medium. The CVs for ethanol oxidation revealed superior catalytic activity of Pt–Pd/C compared to Pd/C and Pt/C. The effect of OH? on ethanol oxidation at Pt–Pd/C catalyst was studied using cyclic voltammetry, quasisteady-state polarization, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The Pt–Pd/C catalyst shows good stability and enhanced electrocatalytic activity is ascribed to the synergistic effect of higher electrochemical surface area, preferred OH? adsorption on the surface and palladium ad-atom contribution on the alloyed surface.  相似文献

Catalyst deactivation is an unavoidable process that occurs in catalytic chemical reactions. Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is used here as a novel approach to investigate the activity of palladium supported with carbon catalyst (Pd/C) over the hydrogenation of cinnamic acid with tetralin. Their outputs for four catalyst samples are reported for different time intervals of 0, 5, 10, 15 min during the reaction. The results of LIBS analysis are compared to Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), which shows a good agreement. Experimental data specify that line intensities of palladium (Pd) are decreased significantly with an increment of the reaction time. Moreover, the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy (FESEM-EDS) of catalysts samples show aggregation of palladium particles for some places in the catalyst surface. The changes of Pd content and sintering of Pd particles in the catalyst during the reaction play substantial roles in catalyst deactivation.  相似文献

A novel carbon‐titania composite material, C/TiO2, has been prepared by growing carbon nanofibers (CNFs) on TiO2 surface via methane decomposition using Ni‐Cu as a catalyst. The C/TiO2 was used for preparing supported palladium catalyst, Pd/C/TiO2. The support and Pd/C/TiO2 catalyst were characterized by BET, SEM, XRD and TG‐DTG. Its catalytic performance was evaluated in selective hydrogenation of citral to citronellal, and compared with that of activated carbon supported Pd catalyst. It was found that the Pd/C/TiO2 catalyst contains 97% of mesopores. And it exhibited 88% of selectivity to citronellal at citral conversion of 90% in citral hydrogenation, which was much higher than that of activated carbon supported Pd catalyst. This result may be attributed to elimination of internal diffusion limitations, which were significant in activated carbon supported Pd catalyst, due to its microporous structure.  相似文献

Palladium sulfide catalysts are active for the hydrogenation of thiophenes of different structure in hydrocarbons at 22O-30O‡C and 3.0-9.5 MPa. Thiophenes and benzothiophenes are close in reactivity. An increase in palladium sulfide concentration in the catalyst leads to an increase in the reaction rate per 1 g of the catalyst but has only a slight effect on the specific reaction rate of hydrogenation calculated per 1 g of Pd. The specific activity of palladium sulfide supported on aluminosilicate is one order of magnitude higher than that of PdS without a support and the catalysts supported on the aluminum oxide and carbon. The aluminosilicate-supported catalyst is also more selective.  相似文献
