Asymmetrically functionalized, four‐armed, Tween 20 derivatives that formed stable monomolecular films on solid substrates were designed and synthesized. Thiol‐modified Tween 20 was used for forming self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold, and maleimide‐modified Tween 20 was introduced onto SiO2 surfaces with SAMs of (3‐mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane through Michael addition. These structurally modified Tween 20 compounds gave the original characteristics of Tween 20, non‐biofouling (from ethylene glycol groups) and functionalizable (from OH groups) properties, to each substrate. The non‐biofouling properties of the Tween 20‐coated gold and SiO2 surfaces were investigated by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy and ellipsometry, and these surfaces showed strong resistance against nonspecific adsorption of proteins. In addition, the biospecific binding of streptavidin was achieved after coupling of (+)‐biotinyl‐3,6,9‐trioxaundecanediamine onto the non‐biofouling surfaces through amide‐bond formation.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional (3D) porous metal and metal oxide nanostructures have received considerable interest because organization of inorganic materials into 3D nanomaterials holds extraordinary properties such as low density, high porosity, and high surface area. Supramolecular self‐assembled peptide nanostructures were exploited as an organic template for catalytic 3D Pt‐TiO2 nano‐network fabrication. A 3D peptide nanofiber aerogel was conformally coated with TiO2 by atomic layer deposition (ALD) with angstrom‐level thickness precision. The 3D peptide‐TiO2 nano‐network was further decorated with highly monodisperse Pt nanoparticles by using ozone‐assisted ALD. The 3D TiO2 nano‐network decorated with Pt nanoparticles shows superior catalytic activity in hydrolysis of ammonia–borane, generating three equivalents of H2.  相似文献

A new chiral nonracemic thiol derived from a popular acidic resolving agent that incorporates a cyclic disubstituted phosphate group (phencyphos) has been prepared in enantiomerically pure form. The stereochemistry and absolute configuration were established by performing a single‐crystal X‐ray structural analysis of a synthetic intermediate. The thiol compound was used for the preparation of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) on both monocrystalline and polycrystalline metallic gold, which have very different surface roughness. The monolayers were used to promote the nucleation and growth of crystals from nonaqueous solutions of an organic molecule (the parent phencyphos) of similar structure to the compound present in the monolayer. The template layers influence the nucleation and growth of the phencyphos crystals despite the lack of two‐dimensional order in the surfaces. Heterogeneous nucleation of phencyphos takes place upon evaporation of either CHCl3 or isopropanol solutions of the compound on the SAM surfaces, where the evaporation rate merely influences the size and homogeneity of the crystals. The roughness of the surface also plays an important role; the polycrystalline gold produces more homogeneous samples because of the greater number of nucleation sites. Clear evidence for nucleation and growth on the surfaces is shown by scanning electron microscopy. The variation in crystal form achieved by using different surfaces and solvents suggests that the layers are applicable for the preparation of organic crystals from organic solutions.  相似文献

Fluorescent self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) are used as dip‐pen nanolithography (DPN) substrates for the fabrication of patterns of Ca2+ and Cu2+ ions. The driving force for the transfer of these ions from an atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip to the surface is their complexation to organic ligands on the monolayer. By means of fluorescent surfaces, the patterns can be visualized under a fluorescence microscope. We use a custom‐built atomic force fluorescence microscope (AFFM), a combination of atomic force and confocal fluorescence microscopes, to deposit the metal ions onto the sensing SAMs by DPN and to subsequently visualize modulations of fluorescence intensity in a sequential write–read mode.  相似文献

Electrochemical characterization of mixed self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 6‐ferrocenyl‐1‐hexanethiol (FcH) and mercaptoundecanoic acid tyrosinamide (MUATyr) on gold is reported. Single‐component SAMs of FcH presented repulsive intermolecular interactions (vGθT=?1.12), while mixed SAMs of FcH/MUATyr (1 : 1) exhibited attractive interactions (vGθT=+0.20), with a homogeneous distribution of both components. Electrochemical kinetic determinations on mixed SAMs of FcH/MUATyr, indicated a secondary electron transfer pathway between the redox centers of both components. Higher amounts of FcH in the mixed SAMs lowered the observed rate of electron transfer of MUATyr. The oxidation of FcH caused an anodic shift of 160 mV in the voltammetric wave of MUATyr.  相似文献

Structures of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) prepared from benzyl isothiocyanate (BZIT) and phenyl isothiocyanate (PHIT) were comparatively investigated by means of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) on gold nanoparticle surfaces. Both the molecules are assumed to have upright geometries binding via the sulfur atom, from the SERS spectral features. The broad and split bands at ~2100 cm?1 could be ascribed to the combination band ν9a + ν12 of the phenyl ring vibrations through a Fermi‐resonance interaction with the ν3(NCS) band in the neat‐liquid state. Such broad bands became quite symmetric upon adsorption on Au. UV‐vis absorbance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to compare the kinetics of the formation of SAMs on gold. Our results suggest that BZIT should have a relatively faster self‐assembly than PHIT, as indicated from signal decrease in the CV graph, which suggests a more vertical stance for BZIT in line with Raman measurements. The modification of an interface on a molecular level with more than one molecular ‘building block' is essentially an example of the ‘bottom–up' fabrication principle of nanotechnology. The fabrication of such integrated molecular systems in electrochemistry has seen rapid progress in recent years via the development of sensing interfaces fabricated using self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs). This review outlines recent advances and applications of self‐assembled monolayers for modifying electrodes with an emphasis on the development of integrated molecular systems. First, some basic issues regarding fabricating integrated molecular systems, such as the role of the surface topography of the electrode and patterning surfaces, are discussed. Subsequently an overview of recent developments in pH, inorganic and bio sensing involving the use of SAMs is given. Finally emerging trends in using molecular building blocks in the fabrication of integrated molecular systems, such as nanotubes, dendrimers and nanoparticles, are reviewed.  相似文献

A 1,1′‐binaphthyl‐based bis(pyridine) ligand ( 1 ) was prepared in racemic and enantiomerically pure form to study the formation of [Pd2( 1 )4] complexes upon coordination to palladium(II) ions with regard to the degree of chiral self‐sorting. The self‐assembly process proceeds in a highly selective narcissistic self‐recognition manner to give only homochiral supramolecular M2L4 cages, which were characterized by ESI‐MS, NMR, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy, as well as by single‐crystal XRD analysis.  相似文献

Unexpectedly, electrochemistry at variable chain length carboxylic acid terminated alkylthiol self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold electrodes gives rise to a Faradaic process in buffered aqueous electrolyte solution. In particular, the three‐carbon chain length, 3‐mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), exhibits a chemically reversible process with a mid‐point potential of 175 mV vs. Ag/AgCl under conditions of cyclic voltammetry. This process is associated with the presence of trace (parts per billion) amounts of copper(II) ions present in the chemical reagents used to prepare the aqueous electrolyte and also from the gold electrode itself. The carboxylic acid moiety on the SAM concentrates Cu2+ ions by coordination and this surface confined layer is then reduced. Methods to minimize the interference of Cu2+ ions at carboxylic acid terminated SAM are discussed and caution with respect to the interpretation of protein electrochemistry is recommended when using carboxylic acid functionalized SAMs to provide biocompatible electrochemical transduction surfaces, unless a metal free environment can be obtained.  相似文献

Organosilane self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) are commonly used for modifying a wide range of substrates. Depending on the end group, highly hydrophobic or hydrophilic surfaces can be achieved. Silanization bases on the adsorption, self‐assembly and covalent binding of silane molecules onto surfaces and results in a densely packed, SAM. Following wet chemical routines, the quality of the monolayer is often variable and, therefore, unsatisfactory. The process of self‐assembly is not only affected by the chemicals involved and their purity but is also extremely sensitive to ambient parameters such as humidity or temperature and to contaminants. Here, a reliable and efficient wet‐chemical recipe is presented for the preparation of ultra‐smooth, highly ordered alkyl‐terminated silane SAMs on Si wafers. The resulting surfaces are characterized by means of atomic force microscopy, X‐ray reflectometry and contact angle measurements. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The wire‐like properties of four S‐(4‐{2‐[4‐(2‐phenylethynyl)phenyl]ethynyl}phenyl) thioacetate derivatives, PhC≡CC6H4C≡CC6H4SAc ( 1 ), H2NC6H4C≡CC6H4C≡CC6H4SAc ( 2 ), PhC≡CC6H2(OMe)2C≡CC6H4SAc ( 3 ) and AcSC6H4C≡CC6H4C≡CC6H4SAc ( 4 ) (Figure 1 ), all of which possess a high degree of conjugation along the oligo(phenyleneethynylene) (OPE) backbone, were investigated as self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold and platinum electrodes by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The redox probe [Fe(CN)6]4? was used in both the CV and impedance experiments. The results indicate that the thiolates derived from thioacetate‐protected precursor molecules 1 and 2 form well‐ordered monolayers on a gold electrode, whereas SAMs derived from 3 and 4 exhibit randomly distributed pinholes. The electron tunnelling resistance and fractional coverage of SAMs of all four compounds were examined using electron tunnelling theory. The analysis of the results reveal that the well‐ordered SAMs of 1 and 2 exhibit higher charge‐transfer resistance in comparison to the defect‐ridden SAMs of 3 and 4 . The additional steric bulk offered by the methoxy groups in 3 is likely to prevent efficient packing within the SAM, leading to a microelectrode behaviour, when assembled on a gold electrode surface. The protected dithiol derivative 4 probably binds to the surface through both terminal groups which prevents dense packing and leads to the formation of a monolayer with randomly distributed pinholes. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to examine the morphology of the monolayers, and height images gave root‐mean‐square (RMS) roughness′s which are in agreement with the proposed SAM structures.  相似文献

Mixed thiol self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) presenting methyl and azobenzene head groups were prepared by chemical substitution from the original single‐component n‐decanethiol or [4‐(phenylazo)phenoxy]hexane‐1‐thiol SAMs on polycrystalline gold substrates. Static contact‐angle measurements were carried out to confirm a change in the hydrophobicity of the functionalized surfaces following the exchange reaction. The mixed SAMs presented contact‐angle values between those of the more hydrophobic n‐decanethiol and the more hydrophilic [4‐(phenylazo)phenoxy]hexane‐1‐thiol single‐component SAMs. By means of tip‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) mapping experiments, it was possible to highlight that molecular replacement takes place easily and first at grain boundaries: for two different mixed SAM compositions, TERS point‐by‐point maps with <50 nm step sizes showed different spectral signatures in correspondence to the grain boundaries. An example of the substitution extending beyond grain boundaries and affecting flat areas of the gold surface is also shown.  相似文献

The development of high‐performance molecular electronics and nanotech applications requires deep understanding of atomic level structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of electrode/molecular interfaces. Recent electrochemical experiments on self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) have identified highly practical means to generate nanoparticles and metal monolayers suspended above substrate surfaces through SAM metallizations. A rational basis why this process is even possible is not yet well‐understood. To clarify the initial stages of interface formation during SAM metallization, we used first‐principles spin‐polarized density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study Pd diffusion on top of 4‐mercaptopyridine (4MP) SAMs on Au(111). After distinguishing potential‐energy surfaces (PESs) for different spin configurations for transition metal atoms on the SAM, we find adatom diffusion is not possible over the clean 4MP–SAM surface. Pre‐adsorption of transition‐metal atoms, however, facilitates atomic diffusion that appears to explain multiple reports on experimentally observed island and monolayer formation on top of SAMs. Furthermore, these diffusions most likely occur by moving across low‐lying and intersecting PESs of different spin states, opening the possibility of magnetic control over these systems. Vertical diffusion processes were also investigated, and the electrolyte was found to play a key role in preventing metal permeation through the SAM to the substrate.  相似文献

This work examines charge transport (CT) through self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) of oligoglycines having an N‐terminal cysteine group that anchors the molecule to a gold substrate, and demonstrate that CT is rapid (relative to SAMs of n‐alkanethiolates). Comparisons of rates of charge transport‐using junctions with the structure AuTS/SAM//Ga2O3/EGaIn (across these SAMs of oligoglycines, and across SAMs of a number of structurally and electronically related molecules) established that rates of charge tunneling along SAMs of oligoglycines are comparable to that along SAMs of oligophenyl groups (of comparable length). The mechanism of tunneling in oligoglycines is compatible with superexchange, and involves interactions among high‐energy occupied orbitals in multiple, consecutive amide bonds, which may by separated by one to three methylene groups. This mechanistic conclusion is supported by density functional theory (DFT).  相似文献

Here we have investigated the influence of the antenna group position on both the formation of chiral amphiphilic EuIII‐based self‐assemblies in CH3CN solution and, on the ability to form monolayers on the surface of quartz substrates using the Langmuir–Blodgett technique, by changing from the 1‐naphthyl ( 2(R) , 2(S) ) to the 2‐naphthyl ( 1(R) , 1(S) ) position. The evaluation of binding constants of the self‐ assemblies in CH3CN solution was achieved using conventional techniques such as UV/Visible and luminescence spectroscopies along with more specific circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. The binding constants obtained for EuL , EuL2 and EuL3 species in the case of 2‐naphthyl derivatives were comparable to those obtained for 1‐naphthyl derivatives. The analysis of the changes in the CD spectra of 1(R) and 1(S) upon addition of EuIII not only allowed us to evaluate the values of the binding constants but the resulting recalculated spectra may also be used as fingerprints for assignment of the chiral self‐assembly species formed in solution. The obtained monolayers were predominantly formed from EuL3 (≈85 %) with the minor species present in ≈15 % EuL2 .  相似文献

Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spec-troscopy were used to study the surface acid-base property of carboxylic acid-terminated self-assembled monolayers(SAMs).A carboxylic acid-terminated thiol, such as thioctic acid(1,2-dithiolane-3-pentanoic acid),was self-assembled on gold electrodes.Electron transfer between the bulk solution and the SAM modified electrode was studied at different pH using Fe(CN)63-as a probe. The surface pka of thioctic acid was determined by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to be 5.6 ±0.1 and 5.8±0.1,respectively.The method is compared with other methods of monolayer pKa measurement.  相似文献

Chiral carbonaceous nanotubes (CNT) were successfully used in plasmon‐free surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for the first time. Further modification of TiO2 nanocrystals on the chiral CNTs successfully realized the recycling of SERS substrate as chiral CNT/TiO2 hybrids. The high SERS sensitivity of methylene blue (MB) over the chiral CNT/TiO2 hybrids is ascribed to the laser‐driven birefringence induced by the helical structure, which provides much more opportunities for the occurrence of Raman scattering. The TiO2 nanocrystals highly dispersed on the surface and inside the hollow cavity of chiral CNTs can completely degrade the MB under the solar light irradiation, leading to the self‐cleaning of SERS substrate. The present research opens a new way for the application of chiral inorganic materials in plasmon‐free SERS detection.  相似文献

The potential use of circularly polarized luminescence for object identification in a sensor application is demonstrated. New luminescence probes using pyrene derivatives as sensor luminophores were developed. (R,R)‐Im2Py and (S,S)‐Im2Py contain two chiral imidazole moieties at 1,6‐positions through ethynyl spacers (angle between spacers ca. 180°). The probe molecules spontaneously self‐assemble into chiral stacks (P or M helicity) upon coordination to metal ions with tetrahedral coordination (Zn2+). The chiral probes display neither circular dichroism (CD) nor circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) without metal ions. However, (R,R)‐Im2Py and (S,S)‐Im2Py exhibit intense chiroptical activity (CD and CPL) upon self‐assembly with Zn2+ ions. (R,R)‐Im2Py and (S,S)‐Im2Py with chemical stimuli‐responsibility allow sensing using the CPL signal as detection output, enabling us to discriminate between a signal from the target analyte and that from non‐target species.  相似文献

The studies of (TEMPO)3O3P molecules (tri‐(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐oxyl‐4‐piperidyl) phosphite) and their monolayers formed on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) are presented. (TEMPO)3O3P is synthesized from TEMPOL precursor (4‐hydroxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl). We focused on electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) investigations. The EPR experiments demonstrate the paramagnetism of (TEMPO)3O3P in powdered form and in solution. Furthermore, these paramagnetic properties of (TEMPO)3O3P are preserved after the deposition on HOPG substrate. The STM studies show that (TEMPO)3O3P molecules have a strong tendency to form self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs). The detailed STM images let us to explore the structure of (TEMPO)3O3P on HOPG and propose a structural model for the observed SAMs. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates the direct electron transfer between the heme moiety of horse hearth cytochrome c and a pyridinyl group on self‐assembled‐monolayer‐modified Si(100) electrodes. Self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) containing the putative receptor ligand were prepared by a step‐wise procedure using “click” reactions of acetylene‐terminated alkyl monolayers and isonicotinic acid azide derivatives. Unoxidized Si(100) electrodes, possessing either isonicotinate or isonicotinamide receptor ligands, were characterized using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, contact‐angle goniometry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The ability of isonicotinic acid terminated layers to coordinatively bind the redox center of cytochrome c was found to be restricted to pyridinyl assemblies with a para‐ester linkage present. The protocol detailed here offers an experimentally simple modular approach to producing chemically well‐defined SAMs on silicon surfaces for direct electrochemistry of a well‐studied model redox protein.  相似文献
