Designing cost-effective and efficient electrocatalysts plays a pivotal role in advancing the development of electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen generation. Herein, multifunctional active-center-transferable heterostructured electrocatalysts, platinum/lithium cobalt oxide (Pt/LiCoO2) composites with Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) anchored on LiCoO2 nanosheets, are designed towards highly efficient water splitting. In this electrocatalyst system, the active center can be alternatively switched between Pt species and LiCoO2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively. Specifically, Pt species are the active centers and LiCoO2 acts as the co-catalyst for HER, whereas the active center transfers to LiCoO2 and Pt turns into the co-catalyst for OER. The unique architecture of Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructure provides abundant interfaces with favorable electronic structure and coordination environment towards optimal adsorption behavior of reaction intermediates. The 30 % Pt/LiCoO2 heterostructured electrocatalyst delivers low overpotentials of 61 and 285 mV to achieve 10 mA cm−2 for HER and OER in alkaline medium, respectively.  相似文献

Transition metal phosphide is regarded as one of the most promising candidates to replace noble-metal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts. Nevertheless, the controllable design and synthesis of transition metal phosphide electrocatalysts with efficient and stable electrochemical performance are still very challenging. Herein, a novel hierarchical HER electrocatalyst consisting of three-dimensional (3D) coral-like Mn-doped Co2P@an intermediate layer of Ni2P generated in situ by phosphorization on Ni foam (MnCoP/NiP/NF) is reported. Notably, both the incorporation of Mn and introduction of the Ni2P interlayer promote Co atoms to carry more electrons, which is beneficial to reduce the force of the Co−H bond and optimize the adsorption energy of hydrogen intermediate (|ΔGH*|), thereby making MnCoP/NiP/NF exhibit outstanding HER performance with onset overpotential and Tafel slope as low as 31.2 mV and 61 mV dec−1, respectively, in 1 m KOH electrolyte.  相似文献

Optimizing the electronic and synergistic effect of hybrid electrocatalysts based on Pt and Pt-based nanocatalysts is of tremendous importance towards a superior hydrogen evolution performance under both acidic and alkaline conditions. However, developing an ideal Pt-based hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst with moderated electronic structure as well as strong synergistic effect is still a challenge. Herein, we fabricated boron (B)-doped PtNi nanobundles by a two-step method using NaBH4 as the boron source to obtain PtNi/Ni4B3 heterostructures with well-defined nanointerfaces between PtNi and Ni4B3, achieving an enhanced catalytic HER performance. Especially, the PtNi/Ni4B3 nanobundles (PtNi/Ni4B3 NBs) can deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at the overpotential of 14.6 and 26.5 mV under alkaline and acidic media, respectively, as well as outstanding electrochemical stability over 40 h at the current density of 10 mA cm−2. Remarkably, this approach is also universal for the syntheses of PtCo/Co3B and PtFe/Fe49B with outstanding electrocatalytic HER performance.  相似文献

Developing highly active, stable and robust electrocatalysts based on earth‐abundant elements for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is important for many renewable energy conversion processes. Herein, NixCo3‐xO4 nanoneedle arrays grown on 3D porous nickel foam (NF) was synthesized as a bifunctional electrocatalyst with OER and HER activity for full water splitting. Benefiting from the advantageous structure, the composite exhibits superior OER activity with an overpotential of 320 mV achieving the current density of 10 mA cm?2. An exceptional HER activity is also acquired with an overpotential of 170 mV at the current density of 10 mA cm?2. Furthermore, the catalyst also shows the superior activity and stability for 20 h when used in the overall water splitting cell. Thus, the hierarchical 3D structure composed of the 1D nanoneedle structure in NixCo3‐xO4/NF represents an avenue to design and develop highly active and bifunctional electrocatalysts for promising energy conversion.  相似文献

Highly active, stable, and cheap Pt‐free catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are under increasing demand for future energy conversion systems. However, developing HER electrocatalysts with Pt‐like activity that can function at all pH values still remains as a great challenge. Herein, based on our theoretical predictions, we design and synthesize a novel N,P dual‐doped carbon‐encapsulated ruthenium diphosphide (RuP2@NPC) nanoparticle electrocatalyst for HER. Electrochemical tests reveal that, compared with the Pt/C catalyst, RuP2@NPC not only has Pt‐like HER activity with small overpotentials at 10 mA cm−2 (38 mV in 0.5 m H2SO4, 57 mV in 1.0 m PBS and 52 mV in 1.0 m KOH), but demonstrates superior stability at all pH values, as well as 100 % Faradaic yields. Therefore, this work adds to the growing family of transition‐metal phosphides/heteroatom‐doped carbon heterostructures with advanced performance in HER.  相似文献

The rational design of highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for water splitting is extremely urgent for application in sustainable energy conversion processes to alleviate the energy crisis and environmental pollution. In this work, through simple deposition of layered double hydroxides (LDH) on Co3O4/NF (NF=nickel foam) nanosheets arrays, hierarchical Co3+-rich materials based on LDH-Co3O4/NF are prepared as highly active and stable electrocatalysts for water splitting. The NiFe-LDH-Co3O4/NF demonstrates excellent electrochemical activity with an overpotential of 214 mV for the OER and an overpotential of 162 mV for the HER at 10 mA cm−2. Such a performance is attributed to the optimized electronic states with a high concentration of Co3+, which improves the intrinsic activity, and the sheet-on-sheet hierarchical structure, which increases the number of active sites. The unique synchronous design of both the architectural and electronic structure of nanomaterials can simultaneously accelerate the reaction kinetics and provide a more convenient charge transfer path. Therefore, the strategy reported herein may open a new pathway for the design of excellent electrocatalysts for water splitting.  相似文献

Highly active and durable electrocatalysts are essential for producing hydrogen fuel through the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Here, a uniform deposition of Ru nanoparticles strongly interacting with oxygen-rich carbon nanotube architectures (Ru-OCNT) through ozonation and hydrothermal approaches has been designed. The hierarchical structure of Ru-OCNT is made by self-assembly of oxygen functionalities of OCNT. Ru nanoparticles interact strongly with OCNT at the Ru/OCNT interface to give excellent catalytic activity and stability of the Ru-OCNT, as further confirmed by density functional theory. Owing to the hierarchical structure and adjusted surface chemistry, Ru-OCNT has an overpotential of 34 mV at 10 mA cm−2 with a Tafel slope of 27.8 mV dec−1 in 1 M KOH, and an overpotential of 55 mV with Tafel slope of 33 mV dec−1 in 0.5 M H2SO4. The smaller Tafel slope of Ru-OCNT than Ru-CNT and commercial Pt/C in both alkaline and acidic electrolytes indicates high catalytic activity and fast charge transfer kinetics. The as-proposed chemistry provides the rational design of hierarchically structured CNT/nanoparticle electrocatalysts for HER to produce hydrogen fuel.  相似文献

Efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are significant for the advancement of effective water splitting reaction. Herein, we describe the growth of cobalt molybdenum sulfide (CoMoS) at different composites of tightly packed nanocrystals, prepared by one step process of simple electrodeposition method on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate as highly active and low-cost HER electrocatalyst. The prepared electrocatalysts were characterized via various analytical techniques. The HER activity was evaluated through electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry technique and impedance analysis. Exhaustive electrochemical examinations show that the Co0.95Mo0.05S achieved higher cathodic current density value of 14.3 mA/cm2 at η?=?250 mV with a lowest Tafel slope value towards HER. Furthermore, the active surface area of the as-deposited composite materials has been calculated by cyclic voltammetry analysis. Hence, the present work illustrates that the Co0.95Mo0.05S composite can serve as an encouraging cost-effective substitute to platinum-based electrocatalyst for HER.  相似文献

Coupling the H2 evolution reaction in water with thermodynamically favorable organic oxidation reactions is highly desirable, because it can enhance the energy conversion efficiency compared with electrocatalytic water splitting, and produce value-added chemicals instead of O2 in the anodic reaction. Herein, Co3O4 nanoribbon arrays in situ grown on nickel foam (Co3O4@NF) was employed as an effective electrocatalyst for the selective oxidation of tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs). Various value-added semi-dehydrogenation products including dihydroisoquinolines with electro-deficient or -rich groups could be obtained with moderate yields and faradaic efficiencies. Benefitting from the rich surface active sites of Co3O4@NF, a two-electrode (Co3O4@NF||Pt) electrolytic system drove a benchmark current density of 10 mA cm−2 at a cell voltage as low as 1.446 V in 1.0 M KOH aqueous solution containing 0.02 M THIQ, which was reduced by 174 mV in comparison with that of overall water splitting.  相似文献

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) have been considered as two critical processes in the field of electrocatalytic water-splitting for hydrogen production and fuel cells. However, the sluggish reaction kinetics of HER and ORR required efficient electrocatalyst such as Pt to promote such process. Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) exhibit great potential to replace noble metal electrocatalysts to accelerate HER and ORR due to their high activity and easy availability. Herein, a highly-efficient bifunctional CoP electrocatalyst for HER and ORR, featuring a unique core-shell structure decorated on nitrogen-doped carbon matrix was designed and constructed via etching a cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) with phytic acid (PA) followed by pyrolysis treatment (PA-ZIF-67–900). Experimental results revealed that the pure-phase single-crystalline CoP exhibited outstanding electrocatalytic performance in HER and ORR, superior to Co(PO3)2 in PA-ZIF-67–700, hybrid phase of Co(PO3)2 and CoP in PA-ZIF-67–800 and Co2P-doped CoP in PA-ZIF-67–1000. To reach the current density of 10 mA/cm2 the as-synthesized CoP required an overpotential of 120 mV for HER in 1 mol/L KOH and half-wave potential of 0.85 V in O2-saturated 0.1 mol/L KOH. This work present new clue for construction of efficient and bifunctional electrocatalyst in the field of energy conversion and storage  相似文献

Phosphorus‐modified tungsten nitride/reduced graphene oxide (P‐WN/rGO) is designed as a high‐efficient, low‐cost electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). WN (ca. 3 nm in size) on rGO is first synthesized by using the H3[PO4(W3O9)4] cluster as a W source. Followed by phosphorization, the particle size increase slightly to about 4 nm with a P content of 2.52 at %. The interaction of P with rGO and WN results in an obvious increase of work function, being close to Pt metal. The P‐WN/rGO exhibits low onset overpotential of 46 mV, Tafel slope of 54 mV dec−1, and a large exchange current density of 0.35 mA cm−2 in acid media. It requires overpotential of only 85 mV at current density of 10 mA cm−2, while remaining good stability in accelerated durability testing. This work shows that the modification with a second anion is powerful way to design new catalysts for HER.

Hydrogen energy is considered as one of the ideal clean energies for solving the energy shortage and environmental issues, and developing highly efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting to produce hydrogen is still a huge challenge. Herein, for the first time, Ru-doped Cu2+1O vertically arranged nanotube arrays in situ grown on Cu foam (Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF) are reported and further investigated for their catalytic properties for overall water splitting. The Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF presents ultrahigh catalytic activities for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline conditions, and it exhibits a small overpotential of 32 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in the HER, and only needs 210 mV overpotential to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in the OER. Importantly, the alkaline electrolyzer using Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF as a bifunctional electrocatalyst only needs 1.53 V voltage to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which is much lower than the benchmark of IrO2(+)/Pt(−) counterpart (1.64 V at 10 mA cm−2). The excellent performance of the Ru/Cu2+1O NT/CuF catalyst is attributed to its high conductive substrate and special Ru-doped nanotube structure, which provides a high electrochemical active surface area and 3D gas diffusion channel.  相似文献

Developing highly efficient, cost-saving, and durable multifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) continues to be a significant challenge in the energy field. In this work, we decide to prepare an unusual multifunctional electrocatalyst, such as icosahedral palladium nanocrystals (PdNCs) encapsulating on N–MoO2–Mo2C half-hollow nanotube (HHNT) heterointerface, using an in-situ chemical reaction and following sonic probe irradiation method. All the experiments demonstrate that special defect-enriched heterointerfaces N–MoO2–Mo2C supported Pd nanocomposite can greatly improve the ORR activity (Eonset = 1.01 V and E1/2 = 0.90 V) with good stability, outstanding HER (η10 = 65 mV) and OER (η10 = 180 mV) performances than those of commercial precious electrocatalysts (Platinum on carbon [Pt/C] and ruthenium oxide [RuO2]). The overall water splitting electrolyzer fabricates by Pd/N–MoO2–Mo2C as both anode and cathode electrodes to achieve a current density of 10 Ma/cm2 at a cell voltage of 1.56 V, which surpasses the most recent reported electrocatalysts.  相似文献

Bifunctional electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolyte may improve the efficiency of overall water splitting. Nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) has been considered a promising electrode material for the OER. However, NiCo2O4 that can be used as an electrocatalyst in HER has not been studied yet. Herein, we report self‐assembled hierarchical NiCo2O4 hollow microcuboids for overall water splitting including both the HER and OER reactions. The NiCo2O4 electrode shows excellent activity toward overall water splitting, with 10 mA cm?2 water‐splitting current reached by applying just 1.65 V and 20 mA cm?2 by applying just 1.74 V across the two electrodes. The synthesis of NiCo2O4 microflowers confirms the importance of structural features for high‐performance overall water splitting.  相似文献

Electrochemical water splitting is a promising approach for producing sustainable and clean hydrogen. Typically, high valence state sites are favorable for oxidation evolution reaction (OER), while low valence states can facilitate hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, here we proposed a high valence state of Co3+ in Ni9.5Co0.5−S−FeOx hybrid as the favorable center for efficient and stable HER, while structural analogues with low chemical states showed much worse performance. As a result, the Ni9.5Co0.5−S−FeOx catalyst could drive alkaline HER with an ultra-low overpotential of 22 mV for 10 mA cm−2, and 175 mV for 1000 mA cm−2 at the industrial temperature of 60 °C, with an excellent stability over 300 h. Moreover, this material could work for both OER and HER, with a low cell voltage being 1.730 V to achieve 1000 mA cm−2 for overall water splitting at 60 °C. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) clearly identified the high valence Co3+ sites, while in situ XAS during HER and theoretical calculations revealed the favorable electron capture at Co3+ and suitable H adsorption/desorption energy around Co3+, which could accelerate the HER. The understanding of high valence states to drive reductive reactions may pave the way for the rational design of energy-related catalysts.  相似文献

The replacement of platinum with non‐precious‐metal electrocatalysts with high efficiency and superior stability for the hydrogen‐evolution reaction (HER) remains a great challenge. Herein, we report the one‐step synthesis of uniform, ultrafine molybdenum carbide (Mo2C) nanoparticles (NPs) within a carbon matrix from inexpensive starting materials (dicyanamide and ammonium molybdate). The optimized catalyst consisting of Mo2C NPs with sizes lower than 3 nm encapsulated by ultrathin graphene shells (ca. 1–3 layers) showed superior HER activity in acidic media, with a very low onset potential of ?6 mV, a small Tafel slope of 41 mV dec?1, and a large exchange current density of 0.179 mA cm?2, as well as good stability during operation for 12 h. These excellent properties are similar to those of state‐of‐the‐art 20 % Pt/C and make the catalyst one of the most active acid‐stable electrocatalysts ever reported for HER.  相似文献

Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) is considered as an alternative material for commercial platinum catalysts for electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Improving the apparent HER activity of MoS2 to a level comparable to that of Pt is an essential premise for the commercial use of MoS2. In this work, a Zn-doping strategy is proposed to enhance the HER performance of MoS2. It is shown that tiny Zn doping into MoS2 leads to the enhancement of the electrochemical surface area, increases in proportion of HER active 1T phase in the material and formation of catalytic sites of higher intrinsic activity. These benefits result in a high-performance HER electrocatalyst with a low overpotential of 190 mV(@10 mA cm−2) and a low Tafel slope of 58 mV dec−1. The origin for the excellent electrochemical performance of the doped MoS2 is rationalized with both experimental and theoretical investigations.  相似文献

Developing efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is of great importance in contemporary water electrolysis technology. Here, a novel hierarchically sea urchin-like electrocatalyst (Mo4O11-MoS2-VO2) is synthesized by hydrothermal deposition and post-annealing strategy. The optimized electrocatalyst behaves as a high active hydrogen evolution electrode in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4. This electrode needs overpotential of only 43 mV to achieve 10 mA/cm2 with a Tafel slope of 37 mV/dec and maintains its catalytic activity for at least 36 h. Better than most previously reported non-noble metal electrocatalysts anchored on carbon cloth. It is worth mentioning that the hierarchical sea urchin-like structure promotes the redistribution of electrons and provides more catalytic active sites. This strategy shows a way for the construction of inexpensive non-noble metal electrocatalysts in the future.  相似文献
