The hybrid reinforcement effect of surface‐treated UHMWPE fiber and SiO2 on the mechanical properties of PMMA matrix composites was investigated. When UHMWPE fiber is introduced, the tensile strength of UHMWPE fiber‐reinforced composites sharply increases. The flexural modulus was enhanced with an increase in filler loading. Flexural modulus of the treated UHMWPE/SiO2/PMMA composites was higher than that of the UHMWPE/PMMA and UHMWPE/SiO2/PMMA composites. The outcome of the better interfacial bonding between the filler and the matrix is reflected in the improvement of the mechanical properties of the treated UHMWPE/SiO2/PMMA composites. A series of conducting interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs), are prepared by sequential polymerization of castor oil based polyurethane (PU) with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polyaniline doped with camphor sulphonic acid (PAni)CSA. The effect of different amount of PAni (varies from 2.5-12.5%) on the properties of PU/PMMA (50/50) IPNs such as electrical properties like conductivity, dielectric constant and dissipation factor; mechanical properties like tensile strength and percentage elongation at break have been reported. (PAni)CSA filled IPNs shows improved tensile strength than the unfilled IPN system. The thermal stability and surface morphology of unfilled and (PAni)CSA filled PU/PMMA (50/50) IPN sheets were investigated using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). TGA thermograms of (PAni)CSA filled PU/PMMA (50/50) IPNs show a three-step thermal degradation process. SEM micrograms of filled PU/PMMA IPN system shows spherulitic structure at higher concentration of (PAni)CSA.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of composites made up of ultra‐high‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber, polyimide (PI), and TiO2 particles were investigated. The hybrid composite of 20 vol% of UHMWPE fiber with TiO2 showed tensile strength greater than UHMWPE fiber/PI composite. A positive hybrid effect in tensile strength is obtained. It is observed that addition of small amount of TiO2 to UHMWPE fiber/PI increased the tensile strength of the composite by 28%. With increase in TiO2 loading to 1 to 3 vol%, the impact strength of the hybrid composite is increased from 55 KJ/m2 to 69 KJ/m2. This maximum value is more than one and a half times greater than the impact strength of neat UHMWPE fiber/PI composite.  相似文献

Thermoplastic polyurethane composites with an excellent dielectric constant and high thermal conductivity were obtained using CNT@BaTiO3 as a filler through a low-speed melt extrusion method. Before preparing the hybrid filler for the composite, the filler particles were surface modified to ensure that the outer surfaces could facilitate the reaction among particles to form the hybrid and ensure complete dispersion in the thermoplastic polyurethane matrix. After confirming the proper surface treatment of the filler particles using infrared spectroscopy, thermal degradation analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy, they were used to prepare the composite materials at a processing temperature of 200 °C. The thermal stability, thermomechanical properties, mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and dielectric properties of the composites were investigated. Compared to the neat thermoplastic polyurethane matrix, the prepared composite exhibited a higher thermal stability, approximately 300% higher storage modulus, higher tensile strength and elongation at break values, approximately three times higher thermal conductivity (improved from 0.19 W/(m.K) to 0.38 W/(m.K), and approximately five times larger dielectric constant at high frequencies (at 1 MHz a dielectric constant of 19.2 was obtained).  相似文献

A study on poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) reinforced with tetraethoxysilanes (TEOS) derived SiO2 is described. It included the manufacturing process of SiO2‐reinforced PTFE and the effects of silylation agent on the properties of the hybrid material, such as porosity, hydrophobic, thermal resistance, dielectric and mechanical properties, and microstructure. PTFE/SiO2 hybrids of 50 wt % SiO2 loading were prepared via a sol–gel process and were shaped by a two‐roll milling machine. Trimethylchlorosilane and hexamethydisilazane were used as the silylation agents. Our results showed that the water absorption and dielectric loss of PTFE/SiO2 hybrid had significantly improved with silylation agent. The silylation process replaced Si? OH with Si? CH3 on the surface of the TEOS‐derived silica colloidal particle. The existence of trimethylsilyl [? Si(CH3)3] on the surface of the modified PTFE/SiO2 hybrid was confirmed via infrared and solid‐state 29Si magic‐angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Nitrogen‐sorption techniques were used to characterize the modified and unmodified PTFE/SiO2 hybrids. The microstructure of SiO2 in the matrix was also evaluated with scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Our results showed that the silylated sol–gel‐derived PTFE/SiO2 hybrids had exhibited high porosity (53.7%) with nanosize pores (10–40 nm) and nanosize colloidal particles (20–50 nm). This manifests itself as have the ultralow dielectric properties (Dk = 1.9 and Df = 0.0021), low coefficient of thermal expansion (66.5 ppm/°C), high tensile modulus (141 MPa), excellent thermal resistance (Td = 612 °C), and an increased hydrophobia (θ = 114°); moreover, the hydrophobic property of the PTFE/SiO2 hybrid was thermally stable up to 400 °C. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organic–inorganic hybrid thin films have been prepared by a modified sol–gel route using tetraethyl orthosilicate as the inorganic (silica) source, methyl methacrylate (MMA) as the organic source, and 3-trimetoxysilylpropyl methacrylate as the coupling agent. The films were prepared by spin coating on Si (100) p-type substrates and subsequently heat-treated at 90 °C. Fourier transform infrared results reveal a set of absorption bands associated with the formation of both PMMA and SiO2 phases in the hybrid films. Capacitance–voltage (CV) characterization was carried out on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) and metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures, with the hybrid films as the insulator layer to evaluate the electrical properties. We present a detailed comparative analysis of the dielectric constant obtained from CV characterization in the frequency range of 1 kHz–1 MHz. For the PMMA-SiO2 hybrid material the dielectric constant values obtained were around 9.5 at 1 MHz which is superior to the values reported for thermally grown SiO2 and pure PMMA materials. The interface state density for PMMA-SiO2 on Si was approximately 1010 cm−2, which is comparable to the standard SiO2/Si structures. Due to the electrical behavior and low processing temperatures this hybrid dielectric is a very promising candidate for flexible electronic devices and its subsequent implementation does not require complex equipment.  相似文献

Inorganic-organic composite and hybrid films find widespread applications for the development of functional materials. Polymer matrices with embedded inorganic fillers, nanoparticles or clusters are particularly appealing for optical, electronic, dielectric and magnetic applications. In particular, the development of hybrid layers with tailored dielectric properties represents a key issue in many technological fields. In this framework, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), due to its outstanding chemico-physical properties, represents a particularly suitable polymer component for the embedding of both microscopic and nanoscopic functional inorganic fillers. The wide use of such a matrix has to be traced back to the favourable combination of chemical and physical properties and easy processing. In this review, the main features and properties of PMMA, with a particular focus on dielectric ones, are firstly briefly described. Selected examples to illustrate the state-of-the art of its corresponding use as dielectric matrix are given and several examples are provided and surveyed. Finally, three case studies concerning PMMA-based hybrid films, produced for very different application fields, are described and discussed. The first example deals with the entrapment of micrometric zinc sulphide powders in PMMA, which acts as a host matrix for the electroluminescent particles in thick film-based Alternate Current Powder Electroluminescent Lamps (ACPELs). The second example describes the preparation of low-κ inorganic-organic hybrid dielectric films based on a PMMA-polyvinylchloride(PVC) blend and a hydrophobic silica powder functionalised on the surface with trimethylsiloxane groups (m-SiO2). The composition of the investigated materials is [(PMMA)x(PVC)y]/(m-SiO2)z with z ranging from 0 to 38.3 wt% and x = y = (100 − z)/2. The third case concerns the use of PMMA as a matrix to embed zirconium oxoclusters through the formation of covalent bonds. The obtained material, characterised by a dielectric constant value remarkably lower (1.93 at 1 kHz and 25 °C) than in pristine PMMA (3.0 at 1 kHz and 25 °C), appears as very appealing for the development of microelectronic devices based on low dielectric constant polymer films such as, for instance, field-effect transistor (FET).These three cases are paradigms of three different approaches to composite and hybrid materials based on the embedding of particles in PMMA polymer matrix.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of hybrid PMMA composites reinforced with UHMWPE fiber and nano‐titanium dioxide (2, 4, 6, and 8 wt%) was investigated. In this work, the effect of UHMWPE fiber surface treatment on tensile, flexural, and impact properties of PMMA composites was studied. The fiber loadings were varied from 0% to 20%. The addition of UHMWPE fiber had caused a decline in the tensile strength of the PMMA composite. Results revealed that the presence of titanium dioxide on the surface treated UHMWPE fiber has further enhanced the efficiency of stress transfer from the matrix to the fiber thus improved the interfacial adhesion between the UHMWPE fiber and PMMA matrix.  相似文献

Summary: We previously discovered that structurally well-defined polymer/inorganic composite particles, i.e., poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/CaCO3/SiO2 three-component composite particles, can be achieved via reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), using 2,2′-azo-bis-isobutyronitrile as initiator and CuII bromide as catalyst. In the present study, the influence of the mass ratio of CaCO3/SiO2 two-component composite particles to methyl methacrylate (MMA) on the rate and behavior of the polymerization was studied in detail. The results illustrate that increasing the mass ratio of CaCO3/SiO2 two-component composite particles will decrease the overall rate of polymerization of MMA under standard reverse ATRP conditions. Thermal properties of the obtained well-defined particles were characterized and determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicate that well-defined PMMA chains grafted on the surface of CaCO3/SiO2 particles were only degraded by random chain scission of C C linkages within the PMMA chain, which is different from the degradation of PMMA chains prepared via traditional radical polymerization. This difference is reasonably ascribed to the difference between the end groups of PMMA prepared via reverse ATRP and that via traditional radical polymerization, which has been confirmed by end group analysis measured by 1H–NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

The dielectric and mechanical properties of hybrid polymer nanocomposites of polystyrene/polyaniline/carbon nanotubes coated with polyaniline(PCNTs) have been investigated using impedance analyzer and extensometer. The blends of PS/PANI formed the heterogeneous phase separated morphology in which PCNTs are dispersed uniformly. The incorporation of a small amount of PCNTs into the blend of PS/PANI has remarkably increased the dielectric properties. Similarly, the AC conductivity of PS/PANI is also increased five orders of magnitude from 1.6 × 10~(-10) to 2.0 × 10~(-5) S·cm~(-1) in the hybrid nanocomposites. Such behavior of hybrid nanocomposites is owing to the interfacial polarization occurring due to the presence of multicomponent domains with varying conductivity character of the phases from insulative PS to poor conductor PANI to highly conductive CNTs. Meanwhile, the tensile modulus and tensile strength are also enhanced significantly up to 55% and 160%, respectively, without much loss of ductility for three phase hybrid nanocomposites as compared to the neat PS. Thereby, the hybrid nanocomposites of PS/PANI/_P CNTs become stiffer, stronger and tougher as compared to the neat systems.  相似文献

This study aimed to acquire a balance of mechanical properties comprising impact, tensile and flexural performances in PP based blend. In this respect, co-PP was employed as matrix because of its intrinsic high impact behavior. Hybrid nanocomposites based on co-PP and containing 10 wt % micron-sized short glass fibers (GF) and 2 to 8 wt % nano precipitated CaCO3 (NPCC) particles were produced by applying a two-step melt compounding method. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) was used as compatibilizer. Strong glass fiber-matrix adhesion and relatively uniform distribution of nano-CaCO3 particles were observed in SEM images. The maximum tensile strength was observed in co-PP hybrid nanocomposite containing 10 wt % glass fiber and 5 wt % nano-CaCO3 which was 58% more than that of neat co-PP. Flexural strength raised as much as 11% by adding glass fiber. The maximum flexural strength was obtained by incorporating 10 wt % glass fiber and 8 wt % nano-CaCO3 into co-PP matrix which was 24% higher than that of neat co-PP. The impact strength decreased upon addition of 10 wt % glass fiber and 5 and 8 wt % nano-CaCO3, this was attributed to the inherent high impact behavior of co-PP as well as strong interfacial interaction between dispersed phases and polymeric matrix.  相似文献

Poly(vinylidene fluoride)/silica (PVDF/SiO2) hybrid composite films were prepared via sol–gel reactions from mixtures of PVDF and tetraethoxysilane in dimethylacetamide. Their morphology, crystalline structure, and thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties were examined. For morphology measurements, scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy were applied. X‐ray diffraction and infrared analyses showed that the crystalline structure of PVDF was not changed much by the addition of SiO2, indicating that there was no interaction between PVDF and SiO2. With increasing SiO2 content, the melting temperature rarely changed, the degree of crystallinity and the dielectric constant decreased, and the decomposition temperature slightly increased. A PVDF/SiO2 hybrid composite film with 5 wt % SiO2 exhibited balanced mechanical properties without a severe change in the crystalline structure of PVDF, whereas for the hybrid composites with higher SiO2 contents (>10 wt %), the mechanical properties were reduced, and the spherulite texture of PVDF was significantly disrupted by the presence of SiO2 particles. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Au/SiO2 and Ag/SiO2 supported metal-nanoparticles (MNPs) were implemented to fabricate SiO2-based inorganic?Cinorganic hybrid sonogel films. Prepared Au/SiO2- and Ag/SiO2-MNPs exhibited low 2D-HCP crystallinity with particle diameters below 10?nm and homogeneous size distribution. The catalyst-free (CF) sonogel route was successfully implemented to produce these optically active nanocomposite films by doping the liquid sol-phase with these MNP systems and its subsequent deposition onto glass substrates via standard spin-coating procedures. The easy MNP-loading within the mesoporous dielectric sonogel network evidenced a huge chemical affinity between the silica sonogel hosting system and the guest SiO2-supported MNPs. This fact allowed us to fabricate high quality hybrid films suitable for cubic nonlinear optical (NLO) characterizations via the Z-Scan technique. Indeed, the hosting sonogel network provided adequate thermal and mechanical stability protecting the active MNPs from environment conditions and diminished their tendency to aggregate; thus, preserving their pristine optical properties and morphology, giving rise to stable sol?Cgel hybrid films appropriate for photonic applications. Comprehensive morphological, structural, spectroscopic and nonlinear photophysical characterizations were optimally performed to the developed hybrid films. Our results have shown that the crystalline nature of the implemented MNPs, their small sizes and appropriate guest?Chost stabilizing interactions play a crucial role in the observation of improved cubic NLO-properties of these MNP structures embedded within the highly pure CF-sonogel confinement.  相似文献

BaTiO3/bismaleimide/epoxy/glass fiber reinforced composites were prepared using E-glass fiber (E-GF) and silane coated E-glass fiber (SC-EGF) separately as reinforcement. BaTiO3 nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal method. Results show that the addition of BaTiO3 nanoparticles has significant effects on the mechanical and dielectric properties of the composite. Both E-GF and SC-EGF reinforced BaTiO3/bismaleimide/epoxy composites with 2 wt percentages of BaTiO3 nanoparticles showed improved tensile strength, flexural strength and dielectric constant and those with 3% showed high dielectric strength indicating this composition is more adaptable for high voltage insulating applications. Dielectric constants and dielectric loss of the fabricated nanocomposites have been obtained at higher frequencies (in GHz) by using Vector Network Analyser at room temperature and was found to be highest for the BMI-Epoxy nanocomposite with 1% weight nanofiller.  相似文献

Silicic acid produced from sodium metasilicate hydrate and metallocene polyethylene–octene elastomer (POE) were chosen as the ceramic precursor and the continuous phase, respectively, for preparation of new hybrids by an in situ sol–gel process. To obtain a better hybrid, the acrylic acid‐grafted polyethylene–octene elastomer (POE‐g‐AA) prepared in our laboratory and used as the continuous phase was also investigated. Characterizations of POE/SiO2 and POE‐g‐AA/SiO2 composites were performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 29Si solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry, X‐ray diffractometry, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry analysis, and an Instron mechanical tester. The POE‐g‐AA/SiO2 hybrid could give the positive effect on the properties of POE/SiO2 hybrid because the carboxylic acid groups of acrylic acid should act as coordination sites for the silica phase to form chemical bonds. The result of 29Si solid‐state NMR spectra showed that Si atom coordination around SiO4 units is predominantly Q3 and Q4. Also, the POE‐g‐AA/SiO2 hybrid with 15 wt % SiO2 gave the maximum values of tensile strength and glass‐transition temperature because excess particles might cause the separation between the organic and inorganic phases when the silica content was beyond this point. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Water barrier properties and tribological performance (hardness and wear behavior) of new hybrid nanocomposites under dry and wet conditions were investigated. The new fabricated hybrid nanocomposite laminates consist of epoxy reinforced with woven and nonwoven tissue glass fibers and two different types of nanoparticles, silica (SiO2) and carbon black nanoparticles (C). These nanoparticles were incorporated into epoxy resin as a single nanoparticle (either SiO2 or C) or combining SiO2 and C nanoparticles simultaneously with different weight fractions. The results showed that addition of carbon nanoparticles with 0.5 and 1 wt% resulted in maximum reduction in water uptake by 28.55% and 21.66%, respectively, as compared with neat glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites. Addition of all studied types and contents of nanoparticles improves hardness in dry and wet conditions over unfilled fiber composites. Under dry conditions, maximum reduction of 47.26% in weight loss was obtained with specimens containing 1 wt% carbon nanoparticles; however, in wet conditions, weight loss was reduced by 17.525% for specimens containing 0.5 wt% carbon nanoparticles as compared with unfilled fiber composites. Diffusion coefficients for different types of the hybrid nanocomposites were computed using Fickian and Langmuir models of diffusion. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Combining multiple inorganic components is an effective approach to improve the mechanical properties of inorganic–organic hybrid materials. The inorganic components can form interactions with the organic polymer matrix, and there is thus a need to understand the reinforcement mechanism under the optimal combination of organic polymer and inorganic particles. In this work, we prepared a series of dual inorganic particle–based titania/silica–poly(tetrahydrofuran)–poly(ε-caprolactone) (TiO2/SiO2–PTHF–PCL) hybrids by means of simultaneous cationic ring-opening polymerization and sol–gel reaction. In addition to constructing hybrid networks, the SiO2 and TiO2 components play important roles in multiple toughening mechanisms. The prepared dual inorganic hybrids feature enhanced thermal stability and mechanical properties when compared with the ones with a single inorganic component. The optimized mixing of such two inorganic components is identified through mechanical tests, revealing that the hybrid polymer70/(Si0.6Ti0.4)30 (70/18/12 mass ratio) has the highest compressive failure strain (80%) and compressive ultimate strength (1.3 MPa) as well as storage modulus (120 kPa), enabling elongation of up to 37% when compared with its original length. We thus find that the dual inorganic component approach is an effective strategy to enhance the mechanical properties of hybrid materials, suggesting potential applications as scaffolds for tissue engineering and soft robotics.  相似文献

In this article, a solid mechanochemical route to prepare core‐shell structured particles was introduced. X‐ray photoelectron spectrum, transmission electron microscope and dissolving experimental results indicated the formation of [(inorganic particle)/(elastomer)] core‐shell structured particles. The thermal stable experiments showed that untreated SiO2 can cause dehydrochlorination of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and discoloration of PVC/SiO2 composites and the formation of core‐shell structured SiO2 particles will improve the thermal stability of PVC/SiO2 composites. The mechanical properties and rheological results showed that the formation of core‐shell structured SiO2 particles can both improve the mechanical and processing properties of PVC/SiO2 composite. ACR in PVC/(SiO2‐PMMA‐ACR) composites acted not only as toughener for PVC matrix but also as cushion breaker if the content of ACR is enough. Meanwhile compared with other SiO2 particles the formation of core‐shell structured SiO2 particles can decrease the apparent viscosity, increase the critical shear rate and improve the appearance of extrudes of PVC/SiO2 composites. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present study investigates the effect of hybrid fillers such as graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) and Titanium di-oxide (TiO2) in polypropylene (PP) composites on the mechanical properties. The compatibilizing agent of Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) are used in the polypropylene based composites to increase the interfacial adhesion between matrix and fillers. The experiments are designed according to L16 orthogonal array (OA) based design of experiments (DOE). The parameters selected for this study are GnPs, TiO2 and MAPP with four different levels are used.By using Orthogonal array and Taguchi based experimental design, the performance characteristics of tensile modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break and toughness can be analyzed with more objective through a small set of experiments.Taguchi based analysis are used to find out the optimal parameters to maximize the tensile properties for the GnPs and TiO2 reinforced PP hybrid composites. Further, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is investigated to identify the most significant parameters which influence the mechanical properties. From the analysis it was found that the optimal parameters of 3 ?wt% GnPs, 2 ?wt% TiO2 and 6 ?wt% MAPP for maximum tensile modulus and tensile strength. The most significant parameter for tensile modulus and tensile strength is GnPs followed by TiO2 and MAPP according to ANOVA analysis.  相似文献
