Direct ESR and spin-trapping experiments were used to study the behavior of Nafion, a perfluorinated ionomer membrane used in fuel cells, when exposed in the laboratory to oxygen radicals produced by Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions. DMPO (5,5-dimethyl-1-pyroline) was used as the spin trap. The results suggest that the two ESR methods provide complementary information on Nafion fragmentation. The presence of membrane-derived fragments was suggested indirectly by the presence of a broad signal (line width ≈ 84 G) after prolonged exposure of the membrane to the Fenton reagent based on Ti(III), and by the DMPO adduct of a carbon-centered radical in the spin-trapping experiments. The most convincing proof for the presence of perfluorinated radicals was obtained in Nafion membranes partially neutralized by Cu(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) upon exposure to UV-irradiation in the presence or absence of H2O2 (photo-Fenton treatment). Identification of the chain-end radical RCF2CF 2 with magnetic parameters different to those determined for the chain-end detected in γ-irradiated Teflon, was taken as evidence for the attack of reactive oxygen radicals on the side-chain of the membrane. Additional support for this suggestion was the detection of the “quartet” ESR signal assigned to the CF3CO radical, and of the “quintet” ESR signal assigned to the radical centered at the intersection of the main and side chains. The limitations and advantages of each approach are discussed.  相似文献

The ESR spectrum of the chain-end radical RCF2CF2* detected in Nafion perfluorinated membranes exposed to the photo-Fenton reagent was accurately simulated by an automatic fitting procedure, using as input the hyperfine coupling tensors of the two F alpha and two F beta nuclei as well as the corresponding directions of the principal values from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. An accurate fit was obtained only for different orientations of the hyperfine coupling tensors for the two F alpha nuclei, indicating a nonplanar structure about the C alpha radical center. The fitted isotropic hyperfine splittings for the two F beta nuclei in the Nafion radical, 24.9 and 27.5 G, are significantly larger than those for the chain-end radical in Teflon (15 G), implying different radical conformations in the two systems. The excellent fit indicated that the geometry and electronic structure of free radicals can be obtained not only from single-crystal ESR spectroscopy, but also, in certain cases, from powder spectra, by combination with data from DFT calculations. The optimized structures obtained by DFT calculations for the CF3CF2CF2CF2* or CF3OCF2CF2* radicals as models provided additional support for the pyramidal structure determined from the spectral fit. Comparison and analysis of calculated and fitted values for the hyperfine splittings of the two F beta nuclei suggested that the radical detected by ESR in Nafion is ROCF2CF2*, which originates from attack of oxygen radicals on the Nafion side chain. The combination of spectrum fitting and DFT is considered important in terms of understanding the hyperfine splittings from 19F nuclei and the different conformations of fluorinated chain-end-type radicals RCF2CF2* in different systems, and also for elucidating the mechanism of Nafion fragmentation when exposed to oxygen radicals in fuel cell conditions.  相似文献

The effect of L-ascorbic acid 2-[3,4-dihydro-2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2-(4,8,12-trimethyltridecyl)-2H -1-benzopyran-6-yl-hydrogen phosphate] potassium salt (EPC-K1) on hydroxyl radical (*OH) elimination was studied using electron spin resonance (ESR) and spectrophotometric experiments. The addition of EPC-K, and *OH scavengers eliminated the *OH generated from Cu2+/H2O2, Fe2+/H2O2 and H2O2/UV-irradiation reaction systems. However, in competitive reactions using different concentrations of a spin-trap agent, the addition of the *OH scavenger altered the IC50 values, whereas the addition of EPC-K1 and a metal chelater did not change the value in the Cu2+/H2O2 and Fe2+/H2O2 reaction systems. The addition of EPC-K1 and metal chelater changed the ESR signal for free Cu2+. The spectrophotometric experiments confirmed that the addition of EPC-K1 and metal chelater altered the absorption spectra due to CuCl2 and FeSO4, whereas the *OH scavenger did not alter the spectra. Therefore, it was demonstrated that EPC-K, has the ability both to scavenge *OH directly and to inhibit the generation of *OH by the chelation of Cu2+ and Fe2+.  相似文献

The processes of radical formation in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide monohydrate (NMMO) and cellulose/NMMO solutions were studied by ESR at 77 K under high-power UV (lambda = 248 nm) excimer laser flash photolysis. Radicals mainly generated were attributed to the nitroxide type radicals -CH2-NO*-CH2- and -CH2-NO*-CH3 at the first step and methyl *CH3 and formyl *CHO radicals at the second step of the photoreaction. Kinetic studies of these radicals revealed that formation and recombination rates of the radicals depend on the cellulose concentration in cellulose/NMMO solutions and the concentration of additional ingredients, e.g. Fe(II) and propyl gallate. Even at frozen state temperature, acceleration or quenching of radical reaction processes was found. The proposed scheme of UV light-induced NMMO degradation during irradiation based on ESR data correlates well with independently obtained results based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The analysis of degradation products by HPLC, e.g. aminoethanol and acetaldehyde, supports the assumption concerning a radical-initiated ring opening of NMMO.  相似文献

Heterobi- and tri-nuclear complexes [LMM'Cl] and [(LM) 2 M'](M=Ni or Cu and M'=Mn, Fe or Co) have been synthesised. The heteronuclear complexes were prepared by stepwise reactions using two mononuclear Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of the general formula [HLM]·1/2H 2 O, as ligands towards the metal ions, Mn(II), Fe(III) and Co(II). The asymmetrical pentadentate (N 2 O 3 ) Schiff-base ligands used were prepared by condensing acetoacetylphenol and ethylenediamine, molar ratio 1 1, to yield a half-unit compound which was further condensed with either salicylaldehyde or naphthaldehyde to yield the ligands H 3 L 1 and H 3 L 2 which possess two dissimilar coordination sites, an inner four-coordinate N 2 O 2 donor set and an outer three-coordinated O 2 O set. 1 H NMR and IR spectra indicate that the Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions are bonded to the inner N 2 O 2 sites of the ligands leaving their outer O 2 O sites vacant for further coordination. Different types of products were obtained according to the type of metal ion. These products differ in stoichiometry according to the type of ligand in the parent compound. Electronic spectra and magnetic moments indicate that the structures of the parent Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes are square-planar while the geometry around Fe(III), Mn(II) and Co(II) in their products are octahedral as elucidated from IR, UV-visible, ESR, 1 H NMR, mass spectrometry and magnetic moments.  相似文献

The Cu(SO(3))(4)(7-) anion, which consists of a tetrahedrally coordinated Cu(I) centre coordinated to four sulfur atoms, is able to act as a multidentate ligand in discrete and infinite supramolecular species. The slow oxidation of an aqueous solution of Na(7)Cu(SO(3))(4) yields a mixed oxidation state, 2D network of composition Na(5){[Cu(II)(H(2)O)][Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)]}·6H(2)O. The addition of Cu(II) and 2,2'-bipyridine to an aqueous Na(7)Cu(SO(3))(4) solution leads to the formation of a pentanuclear complex of composition {[Cu(II)(H(2)O)(bipy)](4)[Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)]}(+); a combination of hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions leads to the generation of infinite parallel channels that are occupied by disordered nitrate anions and water molecules. A pair of Cu(SO(3))(4)(7-) anions each act as a tridentate ligand towards a single Mn(II) centre when Mn(II) ions are combined with an excess of Cu(SO(3))(4)(7-). An anionic pentanuclear complex of composition {[Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)](2)[Fe(III)(H(2)O)](3)(O)} is formed when Fe(II) is added to a Cu(+)/SO(3)(2-) solution. Hydrated ferrous [Fe(H(2)O)(6)(2+)] and sodium ions act as counterions for the complexes and are responsible for the formation of an extensive hydrogen bond network within the crystal. Magnetic susceptibility studies over the temperature range 2-300 K show that weak ferromagnetic coupling occurs within the Cu(II) containing chains of Na(5){[Cu(II)(H(2)O)][Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)]}·6H(2)O, while zero coupling exists in the pentanuclear cluster {[Cu(II)(H(2)O)(bipy)](4)[Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)]}(NO(3))·H(2)O. Weak Mn(II)-O-S-O-Mn(II) antiferromagnetic coupling occurs in Na(H(2)O)(6){[Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)][Mn(II)(H(2)O)(2)](3)}, the latter formed when Mn was in excess during synthesis. The compound, Na(3)(H(2)O)(6)[Fe(II)(H(2)O)(6)](2){[Cu(I)(SO(3))(4)](2)[Fe(III)(H(2)O)](3)(O)}·H(2)O, contained trace magnetic impurities that affected the expected magnetic behaviour.  相似文献

The bimetallic complexes [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2].4H2O (1), [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)].H2O (2) and [[Fe(III)(bipy)(CN)4]2Cu(II)].2H2O (3) and [[Fe(III)(bipy)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2].4H2O (4) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been prepared and the structures of 1-3 determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure of 1 is made up of neutral cyanide-bridged Fe(III)-Cu(II) zigzag chains of formula [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2] and uncoordinated water molecules with the [Fe(phen)(CN)4]- entity acting as a bis-monodentate bridging ligand toward two trans-diaquacopper(II) units through two of its four cyanide groups in cis positions. The structure of 2 can be viewed as the condensation of two chains of 1 connected through single cyanide-bridged Fe(III)-Cu(II) pairs after removal of the two axially coordinated water molecules of the copper atom. The structure of 3 is like that of 2, the main differences being the occurrence of bipy (phen in 2) and two (one in 2) crystallization water molecules. The crystals of 4 diffract poorly but the analysis of the limited set of diffraction data shows a chain structure like that of 1 the most important difference being the fact that elongation axis at the copper atom is defined by the two trans coordinated water molecules. 1 behaves as a ferromagnetic Fe(III)2Cu(II) trinuclear system. A metamagnetic-like behavior is observed for 2 and 3, the value of the critical field (Hc) being ca. 1100 (2) and 900 Oe (3). For H > Hc the ferromagnetic Fe(III)2Cu(II) chains exhibit frequency dependence of the out-of-phase ac susceptibility signal at T < 4.0 K. The magnetic behavior of 4 corresponds to that of a ferromagnetically coupled chain of low spin iron(III) and copper(II) ions with frequency dependence of the out-of-phase susceptibility at T < 3.0 K. Theoretical calculations using methods based on density functional theory (DFT) have been employed to analyze and substantiate the exchange pathways in this family of complexes.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Pd(II) and UO2(II) chelates of 1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthalenol (TAN) were reported. The dissociation constants of the ligand and the stability constants of the metal complexes were calculated pH-metrically at 25 degrees C and 0.1 M ionic strength. The solid complexes were characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, molar conductance, IR, magnetic and diffuse reflectance spectra. The complexes were found to have the formulae [M(L)2] for M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II); [M(L)X].nH2O for M = Cu(II) (X = AcO, n = 3), Pd(II) (X = Cl, n = 0) and UO2(II) (X = NO3, n = 0), and [Fe(L)Cl2(H2O)].2H2O. The molar conductance data reveal that the chelates are non-electrolytes. IR spectra show that the ligand is coordinated to the metal ions in a terdentate manner with ONN donor sites of the naphthyl OH, azo N and thiazole N. An octahedral structure is proposed for Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and UO2(II) complexes and a square planar structure for Cu(II) and Pd(II) complexes. The thermal behaviour of these chelates shows that water molecules (coordinated and hydrated) and anions are removed in two successive steps followed immediately by decomposition of the ligand molecule in the subsequent steps. The relative thermal stability of the chelates is evaluated. The final decomposition products are found to be the corresponding metal oxides. The thermodynamic activation parameters, such as E*, delta H*, delta S* and delta G* are calculated from the TG curves.  相似文献

The effects of 10 paramagnetic metal complexes (Fe(III)EDTA(H2O)-, Fe(III)EDTA(OH)2-, Fe(III)PDTA-, Fe(III)DTPA2-, Fe(III)2O(TTHA)2-, Fe(III)(CN)6(3-), Mn(II)EDTA(H2O)2-, Mn(II)PDTA2-, Mn(II)beta-EDDADP2-, and Mn(II)PO4(-)) on F- ion 19F NMR transverse relaxation rates (R2 = 1/T2) were studied in aqueous solutions as a function of temperature. Consistent with efficient relaxation requiring formation of a metal/F- bond, only the substitution inert complexes Fe(III)(CN)6(3-) and Fe(III)EDTA(OH)2- had no measured effect on T2 relaxation of the F- 19F resonance. For the remaining eight complexes, kinetic parameters (apparent second-order rate constants and activation enthalpies) for metal/F- association were determined from the dependence of the observed relaxation enhancements on complex concentration and temperature. Apparent metal/F- association rate constants for these complexes (k(app,F-)) spanned 5 orders of magnitude. In addition, we measured the rates at which O2*- reacts with Fe(III)PDTA-, Mn(II)EDTA(H2O)2-, Mn(II)PDTA2-, and Mn(II)beta-EDDADP2- by pulse radiolysis. Although no intermediate is observed during the reduction of Fe(III)PDTA- by O2*-, each of the Mn(II) complexes reacts with formation of a transient intermediate presumed to form via ligand exchange. These reactivity patterns are consistent with literature precedents for similar complexes. With these data, both k(app,O2-) and k(app,F-) are available for each of the eight reactive complexes. A plot of log(k(app,O2-)) versus log(k(app,F-)) for these eight showed a linear correlation with a slope approximately 1. This correlation suggests that rapid metal/O2*- reactions of these complexes occur via an inner-sphere mechanism whereas formation of an intermediate coordination complex limits the overall rate. This hypothesis is also supported by the very low rates at which the substitution inert complexes (Fe(III)(CN)6(3-) and Fe(III)EDTA(OH)2-) are reduced by O2*-. These results suggest that F- 19F NMR relaxation can be used to predict the reactivities of other Fe(III) complexes toward reduction by O2*-, a key step in the biological production of reactive oxygen species.  相似文献

Spin trapping by 5,5-dimethylpyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) was used for the detection of radicals in Fenton media in the presence and absence of Nafion perfluorinated ionomers. For ethanol as solvent, the same types of spin adducts were detected in the presence or absence of Nafion. Solvent-derived adducts, DMPO/*OC2H5 and DMPO/*CH(OH)CH3, were identified, and their presence was rationalized by Fe(III)-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of ethanol to the spin trap and hydrogen abstraction by *OH radicals; oxygen radical adducts, DMPO/*O2(-) and DMPO/*OOH, were also detected. In Fenton media with methanol as solvent (and no Nafion), the DMPO/*O2(-) adduct dominated immediately after sample preparation, and a mixture consisting of DMPO/*OCH3, DMPO/*CH3, DMPO/*O2(-), and DMPO/*OOH adducts was detected after 30 min. In the presence of Nafion, only the adduct DMPO/*OH was detected. For water as solvent, only the DMPO/*OH adduct was detected, in both the absence and the presence of Nafion. The full hyperfine tensor components of this adduct were determined in Fenton media in the presence of Nafion with water and methanol as solvents. In Nafion/water exposed to the Fenton reagent at 358 K for 3 h, a DMPO adduct of a carbon-centered radical was also identified and assigned to a Nafion-derived fragment; its exact nature is under investigation. Variations of the 14N and Hbeta hyperfine splittings of a given adduct with the local polarity were key to the identification of some DMPO adducts, in particular DMPO/*O2(-). Both *OOH and O2*- adducts, with different 14N and Hbeta splittings, were detected simultaneously in some samples, for the first time in the spin trapping literature. Comparison with the results of a direct electron spin resonance study of Nafion exposed to the Fenton reagent indicated that spin trapping by DMPO can provide complementary information on the type of radicals present during Nafion degradation. The spin trapping approach described in this paper is limited, however, to systems that do not contain organic solvents.  相似文献

A new series of Fe (III), Co (II), Zn (II), Y (III), Zr (IV) and La (III) complexes derived from the novel ligand 4-(4-Isopropyl phenyl)-2-oxo-6-phenyl 1,2-dihyropyridine-3-carbonitrile (L) were synthesized and characterized. The mode of bonding of L and geometrical structures of their metal complexes were elucidated by different micro analytical and spectral methods (FT-IR,UV–visible,1H NMR and Mass spectra) as well as thermal analysis (TG and DTG), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results of analytical and spectroscopic equipments revealed that L acts as bidentate through nitrogen of carbonitrile group and oxygen of keto group. The conductivity measurement results deduced that these chelates are electrolyte with 1:2 for Co (II), Zn (II), and Zr (IV) and 1:3 for Fe (III), Y (III), and La (III). The results of magnetic moment measurements supported paramagnetic for some complexes (Fe (III), Co (II) and Cu (II)) and diamagnetic phenomena for the other complexes (Y (III), Zr (IV) and La (III)). Thermodynamic parameters such as energy of activation E*, entropy ΔS*, enthalpy ΔH* and Gibss free energy ΔG* were calculated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzeger methods at n = 1 or n#1. Some results of bioactivity tests for ligands and their metal complexes were recorded against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and antifungal. The complexes showed significant more than free ligand.  相似文献

The photochromic ligand bis(terpyridyl)hexaarylbiimidazole (bistpy-HABI) and the Fe(II) complex of bistpy-HABI with formula [{Fe(tpy)}2.bistpy-HABI](PF6)4.4H2O were synthesized and characterized. Bistpy-HABI is readily cleaved into a pair of terpyridyltriphenylimidazolyl radicals (tpy-TPI*) on irradiation with UV light. This photochemical reaction is completely reversible, and the light-induced radicals can thermally recombine to form bistpy-HABI in the dark. [{Fe(tpy)}2.bistpy-HABI]4+ is the first example of a transition-metal complex of an HABI derivative and was found to show photochromic reaction in solution. The spin state of the light-induced radical pair in a frozen matrix was investigated by ESR spectroscopy. The triplet state of the light-induced radical pair from [{Fe(tpy)}2.bistpy-HABI]4+, as well as that from bistpy-HABI, was confirmed to be a ground state or nearly degenerated with a singlet state. Kinetic studies on the radical recombination reaction in solution elucidated the decrease in the activation energy by forming the Fe(II) complex. This is the first observation of a decrease in the activation energy of the radical recombination reaction by the formation of a metal-coordinated radical complex. The syntheses, photochemical properties, and spin states of bistpy-HABI and [{Fe(tpy)}2.bistpy-HABI](PF6)4 are discussed.  相似文献

A tridentate ONN donor ligand, 5-methyl-3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)pyrazole; H2L, was synthesized by reaction of 2-(3-ketobutanoyl)phenol with hydrazine hydrate. The ligand was characterized by IR, 1H NMR and mass spectra. 1H NMR spectra indicated the presence of the phenolic OH group and the imine NH group of the heterocyclic moiety. Different types of mononuclear metal complexes of the following formulae [(HL)2M][sdot]xH2O (M=VO, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Cd), [(HL)2M(H2O)2] (M=Mn and UO2) and [(HL)LFe(H2O)2] were obtained. The Fe(III) complex, [(HL)LFe(H2O)2] undergoes solvatochromism. Elemental analyses, IR, electronic and ESR spectra as well as thermal, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements were used to elucidate the structures of the newly prepared metal complexes. A square-pyramidal geometry is suggested for the VO(IV) complex, square-planar for the Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes, octahedral for the Fe(III) and Mn(II) complexes and tetrahedral for the Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes, while the UO2(VI) complex is eight-coordinate. Transmetallation of the UO2(VI) ion in its mononuclear complex by Fe(III), Ni(II) or Cu(II) ions occurred and mononuclear Fe(III), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were obtained. IR spectra of the products did not have the characteristic UO2 absorption band and the electronic spectra showed absorption bands similar to those obtained for the corresponding mononuclear complexes. Also, transmetallation of the Ni(II) ion in its mononuclear complex by Fe(III) has occurred. The antifungal activity of the ligand and the mononuclear complexes were investigated.  相似文献

Formation of free radical intermediates in a NaOH/H(2)O(2)/Fe(III) system has been studied by ESR spectroscopy in the presence of the spin trap 5,5-dimethy-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO). DMPO/O(2(*) ) (-) and DMPO/(*)OH signals were simultaneously detected in this system, but only the DMPO/(*)OH signal could be observed in the absence of Fe(III). Effects of pH values and Fe(III) concentrations on the ESR signal intensities were investigated in detail. Formation of DMPO/O(2(*) ) (-) adduct was inhibited by the addition of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase or nitro blue tetrazolium (NBT), and by chelating the Fe(III) with some chelators, including ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), and desferrioxamine (DFO). Deoxygenation from the NaOH/H(2)O(2)/Fe(III) mixture had a slight effect on the formation of DMPO/O(2(*) ) (-). DMPO/O(2(*) ) (-) signal was also detected from the NaOH/H(2)O(2)/Fe(II) mixture, but it can be totally suppressed under anaerobic conditions. Considering the hydrolysis of Fe(III) into polymerization iron species with oxide phases in the alkaline medium, Fe(2)O(3) was directly suspended into a mixture of NaOH/H(2)O(2) for comparison. Fortunately, the presence of Fe(2)O(3) suspension was found to be of benefit to the production of DMPO/O(2(*) ) (-). Influence of aging time of hydrolytic iron species on the superoxide anion radical generation was also studied. These results suggest that the generation of O(2(*) ) (-) from the NaOH/H(2)O(2)/Fe(III) system was probably caused by the heterogeneous surface catalysis initiated by hydrolytic iron species.  相似文献

Complexing of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone-2-monooxime with Cu(II) in air and under N2 gave Cu(qo)2 and Cu(qo)2 x H2O (where qo is 3,5-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone-2-monooximato-anion) complexes, respectively. The ESR spectroscopy showed that the reduction of these complexes with P(PhX)3 (X = H, m-Cl, m-CH3, p-Et2N-) and 1,4-bis(diphenyldiphosphino) butane (dppb) proceeds via the radical formation (phenoxazine, amino phenoxy and nitrene type radical intermediates) and pathways of reduction depend on the structure of these complexes. The reaction of Cu(qo), with dppb and P(PhX)3 phosphines gave essentially identical ESR spectra. At the same time, reduction of Cu(qo)2 x H2O with PPh3 result in entirely different unstable radical spectrum (g = 2.0046) which is further converted to another relatively stable Cu-containing radical signal (g = 2.0052). The unstable radical species attributed to nitrene type radicals. The initial complexes and all radical products were characterized by their ESR and optical spectra.  相似文献

New Schiff base (H2L) ligand is prepared via condensation of o-phthaldehyde and 2-aminophenol. The metal complexes of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with the ligand are prepared in good yield from the reaction of the ligand with the corresponding metal salts. They are characterized based on elemental analyses, IR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, electron spin resonance (ESR), molar conductance, 1H NMR and thermal analysis (TGA). From the elemental analyses data, the complexes are proposed to have the general formulae [M(L)(H2O)nyH2O (where M = Mn(II) (n = 0, y = 1), Fe(II) (n = y = 0), Co(II) (n = 2, y = 0), Ni(II) (n = y = 2), Cu(II) (n = 0, y = 2) and Zn(II) (n = y = 0), and [MCl(L)(H2O)]·yH2O (where M = Cr(III) and Fe(III), y = 1–2). The molar conductance data reveal that all the metal chelates are non-electrolytes. IR spectra show that H2L is coordinated to the metal ions in a bi-negatively tetradentate manner with ONNO donor sites of the azomethine N and deprotonated phenolic-OH. This is supported by the 1H NMR and ESR data. From the magnetic and solid reflectance spectra, it is found that the geometrical structures of these complexes are octahedral (Cr(III), Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes), tetrahedral (Mn(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) complexes) and square planar (Cu(II) complex). The thermal behaviour of these chelates is studied and the activation thermodynamic parameters, such as, E*, ΔH*, ΔS* and ΔG* are calculated from the DrTGA curves using Coats-Redfern method. The parent Schiff base and its eight metal complexes are assayed against two fungal and two bacterial species. With respect to antifungal activity, the parent Schiff base and four metal complexes inhibited the growth of the tested fungi at different rates. Ni(II) complex is the most inhibitory metal complex, followed by Cr(III) complex, parent Schiff base then Co(II) complex. With regard to bacteria, only two of the tested metal complexes (Mn(II) and Fe(II)) weakly inhibit the growth of the two tested bacteria.  相似文献

The preparation, composition and structure of copper hexacyanoferrates have been investigated. Three methods were used: precipitation, local growth in an aqueous solution, and growth in a gel. Four compounds were obtained, either in powdered form or as single crystals: Cu(II)(2)Fe(II)(CN)(6) . xH(2)O, Cu(II)(3)[Fe(III)(CN)(6)](2) . xH(2)O, Na(2)Cu(II)Fe(II)(CN)(6) . 10H(2)O and K(2)Cu(II)Fe(II)(CN)(6). Powders of Cu(II)(2)Fe(II)(CN)(6) . xH(2)O and Cu(II)(3)[Fe(III) (CN)(6)](2) . xH(2)O are easily prepared by precipitation and can also be obtained by local growth. They crystallise generally with cubic symmetry, in space group Fm3m, and are structurally disordered. The mixed copper hexacyanoferrates of general formulae M(1)(2)Cu(II)Fe(II)(CN)(6) or M(I)Cu(II)Fe(III)(CN)(6) (here M(I) is Na, K) were not obtained by precipitation. The appropriate method was local growth for the preparation of powders of K(2)Cu(II)Fe(II)(CN)(6). Single crystals of Na(2)Cu(II)Fe(II)(CN)(6) were obtained by growth in a gel, and their study using single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed a new monoclinic structure.  相似文献

New bidentate N-(2,6-di-phenyl-1-hydroxyphenyl) salicylaldimines bearing X=H and 3,5-di-t-butyl substituents on the salicylaldehyde ring, L(x)H, and their copper(II) complexes, M(Lx)2, (M=Cu(II), Co(II), Pd(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II)) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV/vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESR spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurements, as well as their oxidation with PbO(2) and reduction (for Cu(Lx)2) with PPh(3) were investigated. ESR studies indicate that oxidation of M(Lx)2 produces ligand-centered M(II)-phenoxyl radical species. The Cu(Lx)2 complexes, unlike others M(Lx)2, are readily reduced by PPh3 via intramolecular electron transfer from ligand to copper(II) to give unstable radical intermediates which are converted to another stable secondary radical species. The analysis of ESR spectra of Cu(Lx)(2), Co(L1)(2) and generated phenoxyl radicals are presented.  相似文献

Cobalt(II) diketonate complexes, such as bis[trifluoroacetylacetonato(-1)]cobalt(II) [Co(tfa)(2)], catalyze the aerobic oxidation of alkenols into functionalized tetrahydrofurans. To gain insight into activation of triplet dioxygen by Co(tfa)(2) in a protic solvent, as used in oxidation catalysis, the electronic structure of aquabis[trifluoroacetylacetonato(-1)]cobalt(II)--Co(tfa)(2)(H(2)O)--and the derived dioxygen adduct were characterized using ab initio (CASSCF, NEVPT2) and density functional theory (BP86, TPSSh, B3LYP) methods. The ground state of Co(tfa)(2)(H(2)O) is a high-spin, quartet state. As dioxygen approaches the cobalt atom, the quartet state couples with a triplet dioxygen molecule and forms a sextet, a quartet, and a doublet spin state with the high-spin state being the lowest in energy. At the equilibrium Co-O(2) distance of 1.9 ?, Co(tfa)(2)(H(2)O)(O(2)) has a doublet superoxo Co(III) ground state with the unpaired electron residing on the oxygen moiety, in a nearly unchanged O(2)π* orbital.  相似文献
