We report the first scanning tunneling microscope (STM) investigation, combined with density functional theory calculations, to resolve controversy regarding the bonding and structure of chlorine adsorbed on Au(111). STM experiments are carried out at 120 K to overcome instability caused by mobile species upon chlorine adsorption at room temperature. Chlorine adsorption initially lifts the herringbone reconstruction. At low coverages (<0.33 ML), chlorine binds to the top of Au(111)-(1 x 1) surface and leads to formation of an overlayer with (square root(3) x square root(3))R30 degree structure at 0.33 ML. At higher coverages, packing chlorine into an overlayer structure is no longer favored. Gold atoms incorporate into a complex superlattice of a Au-Cl surface compound.  相似文献

Both associative and dissociative H(2)O adsorption on SnO(2)(110), TiO(2)(110), and Ti-enriched Sn(1-x)Ti(x)O(2)(110) surfaces have been investigated at low ((1)/(12) monolayer (ML)) and high coverage (1 ML) by density functional theory calculations using the Gaussian and plane waves formalism. The use of a large supercell allowed the simulation at low symmetry levels. On SnO(2)(110), dissociative adsorption was favored at all coverages and was accompanied by stable associative H(2)O configurations. Increasing the coverage from (1)/(12) to 1 ML stabilized the (associatively or dissociatively) adsorbed H(2)O on SnO(2)(110) because of the formation of intermolecular H bonds. In contrast, on TiO(2)(110), the adsorption of isolated H(2)O groups ((1)/(12) ML) was more stable than at high coverage, and the favored adsorption changed from dissociative to associative with increasing coverage. For dissociative H(2)O adsorption on Ti-enriched Sn(1-x)Ti(x)O(2)(110) surfaces with Ti atoms preferably located on 6-fold-coordinated surface sites, the analysis of the Wannier centers showed a polarization of electrons surrounding bridging O atoms that were bound simultaneously to 6-fold-coordinated Sn and Ti surface atoms. This polarization suggested the formation of an additional bond between the 6-fold-coordinated Ti(6c) and bridging O atoms that had to be broken upon H(2)O adsorption. As a result, the H(2)O adsorption energy initially decreased, with increasing surface Ti content reaching a minimum at 25% Ti for (1)/(12) ML. This behavior was even more accentuated at high H(2)O coverage (1 ML) with the adsorption energy decreasing rapidly from 145.2 to 101.6 kJ/mol with the surface Ti content increasing from 0 to 33%. A global minimum of binding energies at both low and high coverage was found between 25 and 33% surface Ti content, which may explain the minimal cross-sensitivity to humidity previously reported for Sn(1-x)Ti(x)O(2) gas sensors. Above 12.5% surface Ti content, the binding energy decreased with increasing coverage, suggesting that the partial desorption of H(2)O is facilitated at a high fractional coverage.  相似文献

Density functional theory calculations have been carried out for hydrogen adsorption on the (001), (110), and (100) surfaces of Fe5C2. At 1/3 and 2/3 monolyer (ML) on (001), the most stable hydrocarbon species is CsH, while CsH and CsH3 can coexist at 1 ML. On (110), only dissociated hydrogen is found at 2/5 ML, while CsH is the most stable hydrogen carbon species at 4/5 ML, and CsH and CH3 coexist at 6/5 ML. On (001) and (110) surfaces, CsH2 is less stable and can dissociate into CsH or convert into CsH3, respectively. These results are in agreement with the experimental observations. On the metallic Fe5C2(100) surface which lacks surface carbon atoms on the surface monolayer, dissociated hydrogen is found at 1/2 ML, while both dissociated hydrogen and activated H2 are found at 1 ML.  相似文献

A theoretical study on Ba adsorption on the rutile TiO(2) (110) surface has been carried out by means of plane-wave, plane augmented waves potential, density functional theory calculations. A model consisting on a (4 x 1) unit cell, which corresponds to coverage of 0.125 monolayer (ML), has been used and several potential adsorption sites on the stoichiometric surface have been tried. It has been found that the most stable site is with the Ba atom in a position where it is bound to two bridging oxygen atoms and an in-plane oxygen atom forming equivalent bonds (OB site). The adsorption energy is 0.71 eV referred to the formation of Ba bulk and is about 0.3 eV more stable than other adsorption sites. The Ba-surface interaction produces some surface relaxation in all cases. The OB site is stable at moderate temperatures; however, after extensive molecular dynamic calculations it is found that atoms diffuse on the surface by means of a jumping mechanism among several stable positions. The presence of bridging oxygen vacancies does not alter significantly this picture since the adsorption close to defects is not energetically favorable and the atoms tend to move away from vacancies. A strong covalent character has been found in the nature of the bonding, which contrasts with previous suggestions of the existence of Ba(2+) species on the surface. When the coverage is increased to 0.25 ML by adding a Ba atom to the supercell, there is a significant repulsion between Ba atoms that move away from each other to occupy OB sites. Thus, the adsorption energy values per atom diminish. For the stoichiometric surface two equivalent adsorption patterns are found, whereas only one is found for the defective surface.  相似文献

采用密度泛函理论方法在B3LYP/6-311G(d, p)水平上对527个多氯代菲分子的几何结构进行了全优化并计算得到它们的热力学性质(等容热容( )、熵(S$)、标准生成焓(ΔfH$)和标准生成Gibbs自由能(ΔfG$)), 研究了这些性质与取代的氯原子数目和位置的关系, 根据各异构体的相对标准生成Gibbs自由能(Δr,fG$)的大小, 得到它们的热力学稳定性顺序. 计算结果表明: 绝大多数多氯代菲分子具有非平面的几何构型, 在多氯代菲分子中存在三种类型的分子内弱相互作用(H…H、C—H…Cl和Cl…Cl相互作用), 随着分子中取代的氯原子数目的增加, 多氯代菲最稳定异构体的ΔfH$和ΔfG$开始时逐渐减小, 然后又快速增加. 具有相同数目氯原子的多氯代菲异构体的ΔfH$和ΔfG$与氯原子的取代位置有很大的关系. 多氯代菲异构体的相对热力学稳定性主要由分子内的离域π键和Cl…Cl核排斥作用的强弱决定.  相似文献

The adsorption of C atoms on the α-Fe2O3(001) surface was studied based on density function theory(DFT) ,in which the exchange-correlation potential was chosen as the PBE(Perdew,Burke and Ernzerhof) generalized gradient approximation(GGA) with a plane wave basis set. Upon the optimization on different adsorption sites with coverage of 1/20 and 1/5 ML,it was found that the adsorption of C atoms on the α-Fe2O3(001) surface was chemical adsorption. The coverage can affect the adsorption behavior greatly. Under low coverage,the most stable adsorption geometry lied on the bridged site with the adsorption energy of about 3.22 eV;however,under high coverage,it located at the top site with the energy change of 8.79 eV. Strong chemical reaction has occurred between the C and O atoms at this site. The density of states and population analysis showed that the s,p orbitals of C and p orbital of O give the most contribution to the adsorption bonding. During the adsorption process,O atom shares the electrons with C,and C can only affect the outermost and subsurface layers of α-Fe2O3;the third layer can not be affected obviously.  相似文献

A computational study of the N(4S) + CH2Cl reaction has been carried out. The first step of the reaction is the formation of an initial intermediate (NCH2Cl), which is relatively stable and does not involve any energy barrier. The two most exothermic products are those resulting from the release of a chlorine atom, H2C=N + Cl and trans-HC=NH + Cl. A kinetic study within the framework of the statistical theories suggests that the kinetically preferred product is also the most exothermic one. This is in contrast with the analogue reaction of nitrogen atoms with CH2F, where the preferred product from both thermodynamic and kinetic points of view is HFCN + H. Therefore, reactions of nitrogen atoms with chloromethyl radicals release chlorine atoms as major products. The rate coefficient for the title reaction is estimated to be about 3.09 x 10(-13) cm3 s(-1) molecule(-1) at 300 K, a value four times smaller than the rate coefficient for its fluorine analogue.  相似文献

运用广义梯度密度泛函理论(Generalized Gradient Approximation,GGA)的PBE(Perdew-Burke-Ernzerh)方法结合周期性平板模型,研究了氯气分子和氯原子在CuCl(111)表面上的吸附。通过对不同吸附位和不同单层覆盖度下的吸附能和几何构型参数的计算和比较发现:氯气分子在CuCl(111)表面的吸附为解离吸附;单层覆盖度为0.50时的吸附构型为稳定的吸附构型;氯气分子平行吸附在CuCl(111)表面时最稳定,吸附能最大,达364.5 kJ·mol-1;伸缩振动频率的计算结果表明,吸附后的氯气分子的伸缩振动频率与自由氯气分子的伸缩振动频率相比,都发生了红移;布居分析结果表明整个吸附体系发生了由Cu原子向氯气分子的电荷转移。氯原子吸附的计算结果显示氯原子以穴位稳定的吸附在CuCl(111)表面。  相似文献

DFT-B3LYP/6-311G** method has been used to optimize molecular geometric structures of 527 polychlorinated fluoranthene(PCFRT) congeners and calculate their thermo-dynamic properties in the ideal gas state,such as heat capacity at constant volume(Cv),entropy(S),standard enthalpy of formation(ΔfH) and standard Gibbs free energy of formation(ΔfG).The relations of Cv,S,ΔfH and ΔfG with the number and position of chlorine atoms have also been explored,from which the relative stability of PCFRT congeners was theoretically proposed according to the magnitude of the relative standard Gibbs free energy of formation(Δr,fG).It was found that some of the PCFRT isomers are in a nonplanar configuration and there are intramolecular Cl…Cl weak interactions in some of the isomers.With increasing the number of chlorine atoms,the values of ΔfH and ΔfG of the most stable PCFRT isomers decrease initially and then increase.The values of ΔfH and ΔfG of PCFRT congeners with the same number of chlorine atoms show a strong dependence on the positions of chlorine atoms.The relative thermodynamic stability of PCFRT isomers is determined mainly by intramolecular adjacent Cl…Cl nuclear repulsive interaction between Cl atoms at two different six-membered rings.Most PCFRT congeners are easier to form thermodynamically than their parent compound.  相似文献

First-principles calculations based on density functional theory-generalized gradient approximation method have been performed on cesium adsorption on Si(001)(2 x 1) surface. The optimized geometries and adsorption energies have been obtained and the preferred binding sites have been determined for the coverage (Theta) of one monolayer and half a monolayer. At Theta = 0.5 ML the most stable adsorption site is shown to be T3 site. At Theta = 1 ML two Cs atoms are adsorbed at HH and T3 sites, respectively. It was found that the saturation coverage of Cs for the Si(001)(2 x 1)-Cs surface is one monolayer instead of half a monolayer. This finding supports the majority of experimental observations but does not support recent coaxial impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy investigations [Surf. Sci. 531, L340 (2003)] and He(+) Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy studies [Phys. Rev. B 62, 4545 (2000)]. Mulliken charge and overlap population analysis showed that the Cs-Si bond is indeed ionic rather than polarized covalent as generally assumed for alkali metal (AM) on Si(001)(2 x 1) surface. Geometrical structure analysis seems to have limitations in determining the nature of AM-substrate bond. We also found that the silicon surface is metallic and semiconducting for the coverages of 0.5 and 1 ML, respectively.  相似文献

采用第一性原理的密度泛函理论研究单个氢原子和多个氢原子在Be(0001)表面吸附性质.给出了氢吸附Be(0001)薄膜表面的原子结构、吸附能、饱和度、功函数、偶极修正等特性参数.同时也讨论了相关吸附性质与氢原子覆盖度(0.06-1.33ML)的关系.计算结果表明:氢原子的吸附位置与覆盖度之间有强烈的依赖关系,覆盖度低于0.67ML时,氢原子能量上易于占据fcc或hcp的中空位置;覆盖度为0.78ML时,中空位与桥位为氢原子的最佳吸附位;覆盖度在0.89到1.00ML时,桥位是氢原子吸附能量最有利的位置;以上覆盖度中Be(0001)表面最外层铍原子的结构均没有发生明显变化.当覆盖度为1.11-1.33ML,高覆盖度下Be(0001)表面的最外层铍原子部分发生膨胀,近邻氢原子渗入到铍表面次层,氢原子易于占据在hcp和桥位.吸附结构中的氢原子比氢分子中的原子稳定.当覆盖度大1.33ML时,计算结果没有发现相对于氢分子更稳定的吸氢结构.同时从分析偶极修正和氢原子吸附垂直高度随覆盖度的变化关系判断氢覆盖度为1.33ML时,在Be(0001)表面吸附达到饱和.  相似文献

采用第一性原理方法研究了乙炔分子在Ge(001)表面的吸附反应.通过系统考察0.5和1.0ML覆盖度时形成di-σ和end-bridge构型的反应路径,研究在表面形成di-σ和paired-end-bridge构型的反应几率.除了表面反应以外,本文还涉及了亚表层Ge原子参与的吸附反应,乙炔在亚表层原子上吸附形成的亚稳态结构sub-di-σ,是形成end-bridge结构的第二条途径,此反应机理对于表面吸附结构的形成起重要的作用.与乙炔分子不同的是,表面以下原子参与时乙烯分子的吸附反应为吸热反应.综合热力学和动力学的分析表明,paired-end-bridge构型是乙炔分子吸附的主要构型,此结论解释了乙炔分子在Ge(001)表面吸附构型的实验结果.对于乙烯和乙炔两分子在Ge(001)表面吸附的分析比较揭示了导致两者之间差异的原因.  相似文献

In the synthesis of Pt/C catalysts via H2PtCl6 adsorption onto a carbon support, NH4Cl can be formed catalytically during the reduction of the precursor with H2 at 250°C. This compound favors the sintering of metal particles. This effect is likely due to the weakening of metal-support bonding because of NH4Cl adsorption on the Pt surface. The sources of nitrogen and chlorine atoms are basic surface sites of the support, which contain nitrogen atoms in their structure and adsorb Cl? ions from the precursor solution. This effect is typical of active carbons, whose surface contains chemically bound nitrogen as amino groups, and weakens as the Pt/N atomic ratio in the supported catalyst precursors is increased.  相似文献

The adsorption of nitrous oxide, N2O, on a Rh110 surface has been characterized by using density-functional theory. N2O was found to bind to the surface in two alternative forms. The first, less stable form is tilted with the terminal N atom attached to the surface, while the second, more stable form lies horizontally on the surface. Adsorption on the on-top site is more stable than that on the bridge site. The tilted form remains linear on adsorption, while the horizontal form is bent, with the terminal-nitrogen and oxygen atoms pointing towards the surface. At lower adsorbate coverage, Theta less than or similar to 1/4 ML (ML-monolayer), the adsorption of a few horizontal N2O configurations is dissociative, i.e., N2O-->N2(a)+O(a). The N2O-surface interaction is discussed in terms of the electronic structure analysis.  相似文献

The strongest and most robust carborane acid, H(CHB11Cl11), has a monomeric structure in the gas phase. IR spectra show two nuH-Cl bands at 2357(br) and 2066(br) cm-1 which, together with DFT calculations, indicate the coexistence of at least two isomers. The acidic proton bridges adjacent chlorine atoms with asymmetric Cl-H...Cl hydrogen bonding. The 12,7 isomer is more stable than the 7,8 isomer. These monomers can be condensed into an amorphous solid phase but are metastable. They quickly decay, first to an amorphous dimeric structure, then to a crystalline polymeric phase that has been characterized by X-ray crystallography. In the polymeric structure, the acidic proton bridges chlorine atoms from the 7-11 positions of carborane anions in linear chains. The dimeric phase (nuCl-H...Cl = 1100-2200 cm-1) and polymeric phase (nuasClHCl ca. 1100 cm-1, v broad) have more nearly symmetrical, low-barrier H-bonding. These findings have implications for the dependency of acid strength upon phase.  相似文献

The coadsorption of ethylene, C2H4, and atomic oxygen on Ag(100) was studied using density-functional theory. As for the adsorption of oxygen alone, the on-surface hollow sites are predicted to be the most stable adsorption sites at low coverage (< or =1/2 ML). Above this coverage, mixed on-surface + subsurface oxygen configurations become more stable. The binding of ethylene to the clean Ag(100) is weak and little affected by oxygen when it is adsorbed on-surface. On the other hand, we find that the adsorption energy of C2H4 may increase considerably when oxygen is adsorbed into subsurface sites. Our results indicate that the increased reactivity of surface Ag atoms is because of their decreased coordination due to the push out effect of oxygen underneath, more than to their oxidation.  相似文献

The stable form of adsorbed sulfur species and their coverage were investigated on Rh, Ni, and Rh-Ni binary metal surfaces using density functional theory calculations and the ab initio thermodynamics framework. S adsorption, SO(x) (x = 1-4) adsorption, and metal sulfide formation were examined on Rh(111) and Ni(111) pure metals. Both Rh and Ni metals showed a preference for S surface adsorption rather than SO(x) adsorption under steam reforming conditions. The transition temperature from a clean surface (<(1)/(9) ML) to S adsorption was identified on Rh(111), Ni(111), Rh(1)Ni(2)(111), and Rh(2)Ni(1)(111) metals at various P(H(2))/P(H(2)S) ratios. Bimetallic Rh-Ni metals transition to a clean surface at lower temperatures than does the pure Rh metal. Whereas Rh is covered with (1)/(3) ML of sulfur under the reforming conditions of 4-100 ppm S and 800 °C, Rh(1)Ni(2) is covered with (1)/(9) ML of sulfur at the lower end of this range (4-33 ppm S). The possibility of sulfate formation on Rh catalysts was examined by considering higher oxygen pressures, a Rh(221) stepped surface, and the interface between a Rh(4) cluster and CeO(2)(111) surface. SO(x) surface species are stable only at high oxygen pressure or low temperatures outside those relevant to the steam reforming of hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Geometric structures of 135 polychlorinated acenaphthylene (PCAC) molecules were optimized using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311G** level and some thermodynamic properties of them in the ideal gas state were calculated. The relations of these thermodynamic properties with the number and position of chlorine atoms were also explored, from which the relative stability of PCAC congeners was theoretically proposed according to the magnitude of the relative standard Gibbs free energy of formation (△r,fGθ). The results show that all PCAC isomers have planar geometric configuration. There exists intramolecular Cl···Cl weak interaction in some PCAC molecules. The change of △fHθ and fGθ of most stable PCAC isomers with increasing the number of chlorine atoms is different from that in the least stable PCAC congeners. The values of fHθ and fGθ for PCAC isomers with the same number of chlorine atoms show a strong dependence on the position of chlorine atoms and the relative stability of PCAC congeners has close relation with the intramolecular Cl···Cl nuclear repulsive interaction.  相似文献

The uptake of chlorine atoms on sodium chloride (NaCl) and synthetic sea salt (SSS) particles was studied using a discharge flow reactor coupled to a molecular beam mass spectrometer. The reactive surfaces were prepared by coating the inner surface of the reactor using two different methods: either by depositing size-selected particles on halocarbon wax or by spray depositing thin films using a constant output atomizer. The observed uptake coefficients of Cl˙ on NaCl particles are γ(NaCl)(Cl) ≈ 2 × 10(-2) for size-selected particles or γ(NaCl)(Cl) ≈ 5 × 10(-2) for thin films and for SSS particles γ(SSS)(Cl) ≈ 4 × 10(-3). Heterogeneous recombination of Cl atoms to Cl(2) molecules was observed for the two solid surfaces. The study was performed over the temperature range 258 to 353 K. The temperature dependence of the uptake was observed and the heat of adsorption of Cl˙ on NaCl particles was estimated at Q(ads) = 63 kJ mol(-1) assuming an Eley-Rideal mechanism. The role of surface adsorbed water has also been shown. The atmospheric implications of these findings are discussed briefly.  相似文献
