Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) compounds filled with 40 phr of high abrasion furnace black (HAF) and HAF (20 phr)/graphite (20 phr) were experimentally investigated. The stress-strain curves of the composites were studied, which are described by applying Ogden's model. The effect of cyclic fatigue and hysteresis was also examined. The dissipation energy that indicates the vibration damping capacity for all samples was determined. A continuum damage model is used to investigate the fatigue damage behavior for elastomers. Experiments on the cyclic fatigue of a carbon-filled NBR rubber and carbon/graphite filled NBR rubber were conducted to determine the relation between the number of cyclic fatigue and the strain amplitude. The results indicate that the theoretical formula for the number of cyclic fatigue as a function of the strain amplitude, derived from the damage model, can describe experimental data for the prepared samples very well.  相似文献

Pineapple leaf fiber (PALF), used as a reinforcing agent, does not have good adhesion to natural rubber (NR) due to the difference in their polarities. As a result, the degree of reinforcement of NR imparted by PALF remains low compared to that in a polar rubber like acrylonitrile butadiene (NBR). One of the factors that determines the adhesion between the rubber and the reinforcement is the rubber molecular weight. Thus, the aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the stress at very low strains of short pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) reinforced natural rubber (NR) can be significantly increased by lowering the matrix molecular weight. This can be achieved by increasing the matrix mastication time. The composites studied here contain a fixed amount of PALF at 10 part (by weight) per hundred rubber (phr). The PALF fibers were both untreated (UPALF) and sodium hydroxide treated (TPALF). Mastication times of 2, 4, 8 and 16 min were used. Stress-strain curves of PALF reinforced NR prepared with different mastication times were then compared. The most affected region of the curve is in the low strain region. The slopes of the stress-strain curves (moduli) increase with increasing mastication time, indicating better fiber-rubber interaction. The maximum stress achieved at 10% strain is almost 370% that obtained with the usual short mastication time (2 min). The effect remains up to very high strains, although becoming smaller as the strain is increased. Hence, we demonstrate that, by using long enough mastication time, stress-strain curves and stress at low strain of PALF reinforced NR can be improved without the need of any other adhesion promoters.  相似文献

Recently, carbon nanofibers have become an innovative reinforcing filler that has drawn increased attention from researchers. In this work, the reinforcement of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with carbon nanofibers (CNFs) was studied to determine the potential of carbon nanofibers as reinforcing filler in rubber technology. Furthermore, the performance of NBR compounds filled with carbon nanofibers was compared with the composites containing carbon black characterized by spherical particle type. Filler dispersion in elastomer matrix plays an essential role in polymer reinforcement, so we also analyzed the influence of dispersing agents on the performance of NBR composites. We applied several types of dispersing agents: anionic, cationic, nonionic, and ionic liquids. The fillers were characterized by dibutylphtalate absorption analysis, aggregate size, and rheological properties of filler suspensions. The vulcanization kinetics of rubber compounds, crosslink density, mechanical properties, hysteresis, and conductive properties of vulcanizates were also investigated. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy images were used to determine the filler dispersion in the elastomer matrix. The incorporation of the carbon nanofibers has a superior influence on the tensile strength of NBR compared with the samples containing carbon black. It was observed that addition of studied dispersing agents affected the performance of NBR/CNF and NBR/carbon black materials. Especially, the application of nonylphenyl poly(ethylene glycol) ether and 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate contributed to enhanced mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of NBR/CNF composites.  相似文献

A novel and conventional closed cell polyisoprene rubber (IR) foams were produced by a single step limited‐expansion and two step unlimited‐expansion foaming process, respectively. The effect of 3 to 12 part per hundred rubber (phr) of azodicarbonamide (ADC) foaming agent on their structure and properties of developed novel foams were studied. In developed novel foams, the density was strangely independent of ADC content; however, the cell sizes conversely related to ADC content and it decreased by 60% (555‐330 μm) and the internal cell pressure build up from 1 to 3.7 atm, which was related to pressure‐free foaming method. The both reasons of compressed gas trapped inside cells and constant density not only caused unique enhancement in novel foams mechanical properties as hardness and modulus but also improved their dynamic properties as hysteresis and elasticity. Results of conventional IR foams showed that, their foam density as well as dynamic and mechanical properties sharply decreased with increasing ADC content from 3 to 12 phr. For clear expression, in samples with 12 phr of ADC, novel developed foams have more foam density (180%), more hardness (240%), more modulus (290%), and smaller cell size (75%) than conventional foams. Finally, novel developed foams were super‐elastic material with no hysteresis and no plastic deformation while conventional foams had 40% hysteresis and 10% plastic deformation under the same compression conditions.  相似文献

Preferentially aligned short fiber reinforced nitrile rubber (NBR) composites with very high moduli at low elongation and high elongation at break were developed by using short and fine pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) and silica as the hybrid (two component) reinforcement. The amount of PALF was fixed at 10 parts (by weight) per hundred of rubber (phr) while that of silica was varied from 0 to 30 phr. Uniaxial NBR composites were prepared and tested for their mechanical properties in the directions both parallel and perpendicular to the fiber axis. Comparison was made against silica-NBR composites of the same total filler loadings. All composites with PALF display very distinct stress-strain curves. The stress rises sharply when the composite is stretched, while that of silica filled composites with the same loading rises gradually. The addition of silica initially lowers the early part of the stress-strain curve but prolongs breaking to greater strains. Further addition of silica raises the early part of the stress-strain curve back to and above that of the lower silica contents. It also significantly increases the elongation at break. Observation of other properties is also reported. Considering all the properties evaluated, reinforcement of NBR with PALF-silica hybrid shows great promise for engineering applications.  相似文献

Rubber blend of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber (50/50) has been loaded with increasing contents, up to 100 phr, of reinforcing filler, namely, high abrasion furnace (HAF) carbon black. Prepared composites have been subjected to gamma radiation doses up to 250 kGy to induce radiation vulcanization under atmospheric conditions. Mechanical properties, namely, tensile strength (TS), tensile modulus at 100% elongation (M100), and hardness have been followed up as a function of irradiation dose and degree of loading with filler. On the other hand, variation of the swelling number as a physical property, as a function of same parameters, however, in car oil as well as brake oil has been undertaken. In addition, the electrical properties of prepared composites, namely, their electrical conductivity, were also evaluated. The thermal behavior of the prepared composites was also investigated. The results obtained indicate that improvement has been attained in different properties of loaded NBR/EPDM composites with respect to unloaded ones.  相似文献

Hexagonal boron nitride (BN) platelets, also known as white graphite, are often used to improve the thermal conductivities of polymeric matrices. Due to the poor interfacial compatibility between BN platelets and polymeric matrices, in this study, polyrhodanine (PRd) was used to modify BN platelets and prepared functionalized BN-PRd platelets, thereby enhancing the interfacial interaction between the thermal conductive filler and polymeric matrix. Then, BN-PRd platelets were dispersed into the nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) matrix to yield high thermally conductive composites. The presence of N? C═S groups in PRd allowed the combination of PRd and NBR chains containing stable covalent bonds via vulcanization reaction. The thermal conductivity of the as-prepared 30 vol% BN-PRd/NBR composite reached 0.40 W/mK, representing an increment of 135% over pure NBR (0.17 W/mK). In addition, the largest tensile strength of NBR composite containing 30 vol% BN-PRd platelets was 880% times of pure NBR. The 30 vol% BN-PRd/NBR composite also displayed a relatively high dielectric constant (9.35 at 100 Hz) and a low dielectric loss tangent value (0.07 at 100 Hz), indicating their usefulness as dielectric flexible materials of microelectronics. In sum, the simplicity and good efficiency of formation of covalent bonds between boron nitride and rubber chains look very promising for large-scale industrial production of high thermally conductive composites.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) particles were chemically coated with polypyrrole (PPy). The content of polypyrrole varied from 0.8 to 7.6 wt.-%. Electrical conductivity of compression moulded samples depends on the concentration of polypyrrole and reached values from 4×10−10 to 5×10−3 S/cm, which is about 7 orders of magnitude higher than the conductivity in the blends prepared by mechanical mixing of PP and PPy in the same PPy concentration range. Highly conductive composites were also obtained from a mixture of coated and non-coated PP particles. The PP/PPy composites were characterized by elemental analysis, SEM and mechanical testing. The antistatic properties of PP/PPy composites were demonstrated. The electrical and mechanical properties depend on processing of composites.  相似文献

Rubber composites with very high moduli at low elongation, high elongation at break and high ultimate breaking strength have been developed. The matrix was acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and the hybrid (fibrous and particulate) reinforcements were short, fine pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) and carbon black. The amount of PALF was fixed at 10 parts (by weight) per hundred of rubber (phr) while that of carbon black was varied from 0 to 30 phr. Uniaxial NBR composites were prepared. Tensile strength, elongation at break, modulus and tear strength of the hybrid composites were characterized in both longitudinal (parallel to the fiber axis) and transverse (perpendicular to the fiber axis) directions. The addition of carbon black causes the slope of the early part of the stress–strain curve to increase and also extends breaking to greater strains. At carbon black contents of 20 phr and above, the stress–strain relation displays an upturn at high elongations, providing greater ultimate strength. Comparison with the usual carbon black filled rubber shows that the composite behavior at low strains is determined by the PALF, and at high strains by the carbon black. This high performance PALF-carbon black reinforced NBR shows great promise for engineering applications.  相似文献

Silica particles were generated and grown in situ by sol–gel method into rubber blends comprised of natural rubber (NR) and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) at various blend ratios. Silica formed into rubber matrix was amorphous in nature. Amount of in situ silica increased with increase in natural rubber proportion in the blends during the sol–gel process. Morphology studies showed that the generated in situ silica were nanoparticles of different shapes and sizes mostly grown into the NR phase of the blends. In situ silica filled NR/NBR blend composites showed improvement in the mechanical and dynamic mechanical behaviors in comparison to those of the unfilled and externally filled NR/NBR blend composites. For the NR/NBR blend at 40/60 composition, in particular, the improvement was appreciable where size and dispersion of the silica particles into the rubber matrix were found to be more uniform. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed a strong rubber–in situ silica interaction as indicated by a positive shift of the glass transition temperature of both the rubber phases in the blends.  相似文献

In this study, first the acrylonitrile‐butadiene rubber (NBR5080) was modified by argon (Ar), air, and oxygen plasma at low temperature, and the effect of plasma process (power, time, and pressure) on the surface properties of NBR5080, the interfacial properties, physical properties, and the mechanical properties of NBR5080/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites were investigated. The state contact angle and the surface free energy were applied to characterize the surface wettability of NBR5080. The scanning electron microscope and the atomic force microscope were used to observe the surface morphology of the NBR5080. The chemical changes on the NBR5080 surface were verified by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The average water contact angle the NBR5080 declined obviously when NBR5080 was treated by Ar (100 W/600 s/30 Pa). The active oxygen groups were introduced onto the surface of NBR5080 by cold plasma treatment and more active group containing oxygen were observed on the samples treated by Ar plasma. The peel strength between the NBR5080 and the PTFE was increased obviously, which increased from 0 to 44.2 N?m?1 for Ar plasma treatment. The mass and the dimension of NBR5080 increase sharply after immersing in kerosene, whereas the NBR5080/PTFE composites changed a little. The mechanical properties of NBR5080 and NBR5080/PTFE composites decreased as the immersion time in kerosene increased, but the decreased degree of NBR5080 is higher than NBR5080/PTFE composites.  相似文献

Acrylonitrile rubber(NBR) composites filled with barium titanate(BT) were prepared using an internal mixer and a two-roll mill. Also, a secondary filler, namely carbon nanotubes(CNT), was added in order to find a potential synergistic blend ratio of BT and CNT. The cure characteristics, tensile and dielectric properties(dielectric constant and dielectric loss) of the composites were determined. It was found that NBR/BT composites with CNT secondary filler, at a proper BT:CNT ratio, exhibited shorter scorch time(t_(s1)) and cure time(t_(c90)) together with superior tensile properties and reinforcement efficiency, relative to the one with only the primary filler. In addition, the NBR/BT-CNT composite with 80 phr BT and 1-2 phr CNT had dielectric constant of 100-500, dielectric loss of 12-100 and electrical conductivity below 10~(-4) S/m together with high thermal stability. Thus, with a proper BT:CNT mix and filler loading, we can produce mechanically superior rubber composites that are easy to process and low-cost, for flexible dielectric materials application.  相似文献

Carbon black-based conductive rubber composites have important impacts on electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding applications. However, an excessive amount of carbon black in the recipes of these conductive rubbers has caused their weak elasticity. Herein, hollow carbon black(HCB) particles were used to tune the elasticity of conductive rubber composites. Unique hollow morphology produced a better compression recovery of HCB than other solid carbon black, such as acetylene black. When the coupling agent was bonded to HCB, their conductive silicone rubber composites were featured by high stretching resilience, a fast compression recovery and excellent conductivity to satisfy the electromagnetic interference shielding requirements. Importantly, the rubber composites with coupling HCB had extremely low variations of mechanical property, conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness after thermal accelerated aging tests. It is therefore revealed that the elasticity of HCB and its interfacial chemical coupling with rubber chains both play crucial roles in adjusting the elasticity of conductive rubber to sever long-term EMI protection.  相似文献

Nitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) has been blended with polychloroprene (CR) in a weight ratio of 1:1. The vulcanizing systems in the blend formulations were varied to obtain non crosslinked CR embedded in vulcanized NBR and non crosslinked NBR embedded in vulcanized CR. The effects of these two different phases on the rheological and mechanical characteristics were evaluated. In addition, the dynamic compliance of the blends was measured over wide ranges of frequency and temperature. It has been found that the mechanical and rheological properties of the vulcanized blends depend on the type of vulcanizing system, its concentration and the presence of reinforcing filler. The mechanical properties of the blend containing N‐cyclohexyl‐2‐benzthiazyl sulphenamide/S as vulcanizing system suitable for NBR are higher than those of the blend containing non‐sulfur vulcanizing system (Zno/Mgo and ethylene thiourea) suitable for CR. Both types of rubber (CR and NBR) in the blend are incompatible as two glass transition temperatures have been observed. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) was treated with two types of surfactants, i.e., silane coupling agent (KH550) and 4,4’-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), incorporated into phenyl silicone rubber at a low concentration (≤0.2 wt%), and cured by the room temperature vulcanized method. The effects of functional graphene oxide on the dielectric behaviour, thermal conductivity, optical transmittance and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the particle size changed after modification and that the modified GO dispersed well in the phenyl silicone rubber. The composites with MDI modified GO exhibited better electrical insulation and lower light loss in the ultraviolet–visible region than the composites with KH550 modified GO. However, composites filled with KH550 modified GO present better thermal conductivity.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity, σ, of conductive acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) mixed with different concentrations (1, 3 and 5 phr) of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is presented. The effect of gamma radiation doses in the range 5 to 50 kGy on the electrical conductivity was determined for all samples. Storage of the unirradiated and irradiated samples for 7 days at 60 or 100 °C has a great influence on the electrical conductivity of these blends. The variation in the conduction mechanisms through these blends on both irradiation and storage is also discussed.  相似文献

Addition of 5 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of CPB-CB into NBR improved the tensile strength by 124%, vulcanization rate by 41%, shore hardness by 15%, and decreased the volumetric wear by 7% compared to those of the base rubber-CB composite.  相似文献

In the present work, dynamic compression response of polypropylene (PP) based composites reinforced with Kevlar/Basalt fabrics was investigated. Two homogeneous fabrics with Kevlar (K3D) and Basalt (B3D) yarns and one hybrid (H3D) fabric with a combination of Kevlar/Basalt yarns were produced. The architecture of the fabrics was three-dimensional angle-interlock (3D-A). Three different composite laminates were manufactured using vacuum-assisted compression molding technique. The high strain rate compression loading was applied using a Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) set-up at a strain rate regime of 3633–5235/s. The results indicated that the dynamic compression properties of thermoplastic 3D-A composites are strain rate sensitive. In all the composites, the peak stress, toughness and modulus were increased with strain rate. However, the strain at peak stress of Basalt reinforced composites (B3D, H3D) decreased approximately by 25%, while for K3D specimens it increased approximately by 15%. The K3D composites had a higher strain rate as compared to the B3D and H3D composites. In the case of K3D composite, except strain at peak stress, remaining dynamic properties were lower than the B3D composite, however, hybridization increased these properties. The failure mechanisms of 3D-A composites were characterized through macroscopic and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).  相似文献

This work proposes a simple method for improving the rubber to filler stress transfer in short pineapple leaf fiber-reinforced natural rubber (NR). This was achieved by replacing some of the non-polar NR by polar acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR). The amount replaced was varied from 0% to 20% by weight. The mixing sequence was designed so that the fiber would be coated with polar NBR before being dispersed in the NR matrix. A comparison system in which the mixing was carried out in a single step was also examined. Despite the fact that the two rubbers are immiscible, it was found that significant improvement of the stress transfer in the low strain region can be obtained. The mixing sequence affected the mechanical properties of the resulting composites. It is concluded that frictional stress transfer between the immiscible rubbers contributes more to the total stress transfer than does the frictional stress transfer between non-polar NR and polar cellulose fiber.  相似文献
