A facile, efficient and environment friendly method is established to prepare poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) based graphene oxide-montmorillonite(GO-MMT) nanocomposites in aqueous media. GO-MMT nanohybrid is obtained by the combination of GO and MMT in water without any reducing or stabilizing agents. The formation of GO-MMT nanohybrid is due to the hydrogen bonding and crosslinking effects. The sodium ions within MMT sheets act as crosslinkers between GO sheets and MMT platelets. The resultant nanocomposites are characterized by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and mechanical testing. Compared to that of pure PVA, PVA nanocomposites show enhanced thermal stabilities and mechanical properties, which results from strong interfacial adhesion of the nanoadditives in PVA matrix. The further increase in the tensile strength and modulus results from strong interaction between PVA chains and layered GO-MMT as well as good mechanical properties of GO-MMT hybrid, compared to PVA/GO and PVA/MMT nanocompsoites.  相似文献

A series of novel polyethyleneimine (PEI) modified graphene oxide (PEI-mGO) filled poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposite (PEI-mGO/PVA) films were prepared by solution-casing for hydrogen gas barrier applications. Hydrophilic PEI was used to simultaneously reduce and modify graphene oxide sheets, thereby facilitating a homogeneous dispersion of PEI-mGO in the PVA matrix. The effects of PEI-mGO on the morphology and properties of the nanocomposite films were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Analogous GO/PVA composites were also prepared and characterized for comparative purposes. The PEI-mGO/PVA nanocomposites showed higher thermal and mechanical stability as well as remarkable improvement in hydrogen gas barrier properties compared to the PVA film; specifically, the PEI-mGO/PVA film having 3.0 wt% of PEI-mGO content exhibited almost 95% decrease in GTR and permeability values compared to PVA film.  相似文献

The effect of the C/O ratio of graphene oxide materials on the reinforcement and rheological percolation of epoxy-based nanocomposites has been studied. As-prepared graphene oxide (GO) and thermally-reduced graphene oxide (TRGO) with higher C/O ratios were incorporated into an epoxy resin matrix at loadings from 0.5 to 5 wt %. Tensile testing revealed good reinforcement of the polymer up to optimal loadings of 1 wt %, whereas agglomeration of the flakes at higher loadings caused the mechanical properties of the composites to deteriorate. The level of reduction (C/O) of the graphene oxide filler was found to influence the mechanical and rheological properties of the epoxy composites. Higher oxygen contents were found to lead to stronger interfaces between graphene and epoxy, giving rise to higher effective Young's moduli of the filler and thus to superior mechanical properties of the composite. The effective modulus of the GO in the nanocomposites was found to be up to 170 GPa. Furthermore, rheological analysis showed that highly oxidized graphene flakes did not raise the viscosity of the epoxy resin significantly, facilitating the processing considerably, of great importance for the development of these functional polymeric materials. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ionic liquid 1‐allyl‐3‐methyl‐imidazolium chloride (AMICl) is used to fine‐tune the surface properties of graphene oxide (GO) sheets for fabricating ionic liquid functionalized GO (GO‐IL)/styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR) nanocomposites. The morphology and structure of GO‐IL are characterized using atomic force microscope, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV‐vis spectra and Raman spectra. The interaction between GO and AMICl molecules as well as the effects of GO‐IL on the mechanical properties, thermal conductivity and solvent resistance of SBR are thoroughly studied. It is found that AMICl molecules can interact with GO via the combination of hydrogen bond and cation–π interaction. GO‐IL can be well‐dispersed in the SBR matrix, as confirmed by X‐ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. Therefore, the SBR nanocomposites incorporating GO‐IL exhibit greatly enhanced performance. The tensile strength, tear strength, thermal conductivity and solvent resistance of GO‐IL/SBR nanocomposite with 5 parts per hundred rubber GO‐IL are increased by 505, 362, 34 and 31%, respectively, compared with neat SBR. This method provides a new insight into the fabrication of multifunctional GO‐based rubber composites. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate physical and mechanical properties of graphene oxide (GO)/polyethersulfone (PES) nanocomposite films. The films were produced by solution casting method. The mechanical properties of composite films were evaluated by tensile test. A significant enhancement in the mechanical properties of neat PES films was obtained incorporating a small amount of GO loading (0.05–1 wt.%). The highest tensile strength was observed at 1 wt.% of GO. Comparisons were made between experimental data and the Halpin–Tsai model predictions for the tensile strength and modulus of GO/PES composites. The effect of an orientation factor on model predictions was also acquired. The hydrophilicity of the nanocomposite was evaluated by assessing contact angle and enhanced wet ability of the films was obtained with increasing the amount of GO up to 1%. The morphology of the nanocomposites was investigated using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy and the results revealed a good dispersion of GO in the PES matrix. The thermal behavior of the composite was also studied. Thermal stability of composites was increased by adding the GO. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The novel polymer composite of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyol(PO) and graphene oxide (GO) was used to prepare the PVA/PO and GO/PVA/PO with different weight percents of GO (0.5 and 1% denoted as (0.5 wt%)GO/PVA/PO and (1 wt%)GO/PVA/PO, respectively) through solution casting blend technique. The structure–properties of all used films were confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and mechanical properties. The SEM results exhibited the uniform and homogeneous dispersion of GO in the PVA/PO blend matrix. The TEM and XRD analysis confirmed the structure and exfoliation of GO nanosheets, respectively. Thermal stability suggested that (0.5 wt%)GO/PVA/PO and (1 wt%) GO/PVA/PO films are more stable than PVA/PO. The tensile strength of (0.5 wt%)GO/PVA/PO and (1 wt%)GO/PVA/PO films reached 270.5% and 1349.6%, respectively, which are higher than that of the PVA/PO film. The decrease in the water absorption (WA) of GO/PVA/PO was found from 110.5 to 38.4%. The physico-mechanical properties of used films suggested that the prepared GO/PVA/PO blend composite films can be applied in food packaging areas.  相似文献

This article investigates irradiated and accelerated aged graphene oxide (GO)/ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) nanocomposites. The prepared GO/UHMWPE nanocomposites are gamma-irradiated at a high irradiation dose in a vacuum and then accelerated aging procedure is performed at 80°C in an air oven for 21 days. Irradiated and aged samples are characterized by Raman spectrum, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrum, differential scanning calorimetry, contact angle, and gel content. Filling GO reduces the intensity of Raman spectrum of UHMWPE and irradiation or aging cannot affect vibrational modes of UHMWPE and GO/UHMWPE. The result of the FT-IR spectrum shows that UHMWPE and GO/UHMWPE basically have the same oxidation index values, whether with irradiation or accelerated aging. Irradiation or aging can slightly increase the melting temperature. GO, irradiation, or aging can significantly increase the crystallinity and improve wetting properties. In irradiated GO/UHMWPE, GO is able to maintain the efficiency of the cross-linking. However, after aging, the cross-linking density of GO/UHMWPE is reduced significantly. According to the above results, it is proposed that GO shows a very weak scavenging free radicals capacity in GO/UHMWPE composites and cannot display antioxidant capacity.  相似文献

This paper presents the properties of epoxy nanocomposites, prepared using a synthesized hybrid Polypyrrole-Graphene Oxide (PPy-GO) filler, via in-situ chemical polymerization, at various filler loadings (i.e., 0.5–2 w. t %). The microstructures and properties of the PPy-GO hybrids and epoxy nanocomposites were studied via Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), mechanical (Tensile Properties), electrical, Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). Morphological study demonstrated that varying the nanofiller nature (PPy-GOs, PPy or GO) lead to different states of dispersion. Mechanical, electrical and thermal analysis demonstrated that the hybrid concentration and its architecture (PPy:GO ratio) are interesting factors significantly affected the properties of the epoxy based nanocomposites. On the other hand, the mechanical performance of the cured nanocomposites outperformed the PPy-GO, with enhancements of 78% and 51% of Young's modulus and strength, respectively. Here it has been established that the embedding of PPy-GO hybrids into pristine epoxy endows optimum dispersion of PPy and GO as well as better interfacial adhesion between the fillers and matrix, which results in a significant improvement in load transfer effectiveness. Electrical conductivity measurements showed that conductivity of epoxy filled nanocomposites increased up 10−4 S/cm for Epoxy/PPy-GO nanocomposites. DMTA test indicated that incorporation of PPy-GO resulted in a significantly increase in Tg of the resultant nanocomposites, which is attributed to the highly exfoliation structure and the stronger interfacial interaction. The PPy-GO particles enhanced electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of nanocomposites, confirming the synergistic effect of PPy-GO as multifunctional filler.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO)/epoxy composites cured by aliphatic dibasic acids have been prepared. The influences of structure of aliphatic dibasic acid and loading of GO on curing process and mechanical properties of epoxy composites were studied. The results show that the reaction activities, gel time of corresponding epoxy-acid system and tensile strength of the formed epoxy resins decrease with the increase of the chain length of aliphatic dibasic acids. Both fracture toughness (>1.96 MPa⋅m1/2) and elongations at break (>6%) increase with the increase of the chain length of aliphatic dibasic acids. The introduction of GO is helpful to increase the mechanical properties and the gas transmission coefficient of GO/epoxy composites. A maximum of tensile strength and elongations at break were obtained when the loading of GO is 0.6 wt%. The gas transmission coefficient of GO/epoxy composite increases with the increase of GO loading. The excellent mechanical properties and gas leakage resistance coefficient of the formed epoxy composites provides potential application in many fields where conventional brittle epoxy resins are inapplicable.  相似文献

Composites based on epoxy/graphene were investigated for thermal-mechanical performance. Initially, few-layer graphene oxide (GO) was modified with tetraethylenepentamine (GO-TEPA) in a reaction assisted by microwave radiation. GO and GO-TEPA samples were characterized for their structure and morphology. Composites containing 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt.% of GO and GO-TEPA were prepared, and the effect of fillers on the morphology of cryofractured regions of epoxy matrix was observed through electron microscopy images. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA) tests revealed increases of approximately 20 °C in glass transition. Moreover, when compared to neat polymer, composites containing 0.5 wt.% of GO-TEPA gained up to 103% in thermal conductivity (obtained by flash laser). Finally, nanoindentation analyses showed increases of 72% in Young's modulus and 143% in hardness for the same sample. The system is characterized as multifunctional nanocomposites because of the simultaneous gains in thermal and mechanical properties. The best results of the multifunctional composites were strongly associated with the chemical modification of the GO by TEPA.  相似文献

Polymeric materials have been found to be ideal candidates for the synthesis of organic–inorganic nanomaterials. We have obtained Co3O4‐decorated graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites by a simple polymer combustion method. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) of two different molecular weights, 14,000 and 125,000, was used for the synthesis. The pristine sample was annealed at 300, 500, and 800°C. PVA has played an important role in the formation of GO and Co3O4 nanoparticles. Synthesized Co3O4–GO nanocomposites were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, Raman, electron paramagnetic resonance, transmission electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. Reflection peaks at 12° and 37° in an X‐ray study confirm the formation of Co3O4–GO. Raman study validates the presence of GO in nanocomposites of Co3O4–GO. Room temperature ferromagnetism was observed in all annealed samples. The highest coercivity of 462 G was observed for 300°C annealed samples as compared with bulk Co3O4. On the basis of the results obtained, a mechanism of formation is proposed. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Novel ternary nanocomposites films of Polypyrrole/copper/graphene oxide (PPy/Cu/GO) showed enhanced optical and electronic properties. In this study, PPy/Cu/GO films were synthesized with different GO load (0.0, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 wt%) using electrochemical deposition technique. The structural, optical and electrical properties of the composites were evaluated using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and four-point probe methods. XRD results reveal that the GO was completely intercalated and dispersed uniformly in the nanocomposites. The results also revealed that the nanocomposite films are crystalline in nature, with distinct peaks corresponding to indexed miller indices. UV-visible analysis revealed that all of the nanocomposites showed good UV absorbance which was significant in the UV–Vis region of ≈450 nm. The energy band gap decreased with increase in GO load and was found within 3.46 to 2.25 eV, across the range of GO load which fall within the range of energy band gap for photovoltaic applications. The SEM results revealed that the nanocomposite films showed unevenly shaped structures with porous surface which increases with increasing GO loading, while the EDX result revealed the presence of carbon, oxygen nitrogen and copper as fundamental elements deposited. The nanocomposites' four-point probe analysis revealed slight increase in conductivity with low GO content. The incorporation of Cu and GO nanoparticles in PPy matrix provides a better balance and thus improved the photovoltaic properties of PPy/Cu/GO making them suitable for photovoltaic applications.  相似文献

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) compounds were successfully melt-processed by injection molding. During the processing, water was involved in the system as both the dispersion medium for CNCs and the plasticizer for PVA. Meanwhile, formamide was added to prevent the evaporation of water and to co-plasticize PVA. Thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry indicated the melt processing window of PVA was expanded by 40 °C. Tensile tests showed that the mechanical properties of injection-molded samples were significantly improved with the addition of CNCs. The tensile strength of the composites increased from 32 to 58 MPa, and modulus increased from 175 to 1,252 MPa when 7 wt% CNCs was added. Moreover, the volume shrinkage of PVA nanocomposites upon drying as well as their water leaching rate could be remarkably reduced in the presence of CNCs.

The aim of this research was to study the efficiency of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-modified graphene oxide (GO) as a supporting material for catalysts that oxidize formic acid. The active metal catalysts (e.g., Pt and Pd) were electrodeposited on PVA/GO surfaces. The morphologies of the prepared catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, while their chemical compositions were identified by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results show that compared with the other catalysts on GO, the prepared active PtPd alloy catalyst nanoparticles with 11.49–20.73 nm sizes were well dispersed on the PVA/GO surfaces. Electrochemical results indicate that the activities of the catalysts with PVA provided a higher current density than that of the catalysts without PVA. The bimetallic 3Pt3Pd/PVA/GO catalyst showed the greatest catalytic activity, stability, and CO oxidation when compared to those of other catalysts. The electronic, morphological, and structural properties promote the mass-charge transfer through the interaction. These results indicate that the PVA-modified GO provides a suitable site for active bimetallic catalyst surfaces, resulting in excellent formic acid oxidation and high CO elimination. The 3Pt3Pd/PVA/GO electrocatalyst is promising for enhancing formic acid oxidation.  相似文献

The graphite oxide (GO) was prepared from expandable graphite by the pressurized oxidation method, and samples were characterized using XRD, UV–Vis, and TEM. GO is reduced in situ emulsion using hydrazine to achieve reduced graphene oxide/waterborne polyurethane (rGO/WPU) nanocomposites. The effect of rGO content on the stability, fracture morphologies, mechanical performance, thermal degradation, and flame-retardant properties of rGO/WPU composites was investigated by zeta potential analyzer, TEM, SEM, universal testing machine, TG, and Cone Calorimeter. The results of zeta potential, TEM, and SEM analysis indicate that rGO has a good stability and dispersibility in rGO/WPU nanocomposites. The results of mechanical tests showed that the mechanical properties of rGO/WPU nanocomposites increased consistently with increasing rGO content up to 2 mass%, and TG showed that the thermostability of rGO/WPU nanocomposites decreased slightly compared to pure WPU, but carbon residue increased from 0.99 to 1.99 % when the mass fraction of rGO in WPU is 2 %. Cone Calorimeter test indicated that the flame-retardant and smoke suppression properties of rGO/WPU composites showed significant improvement compared to the WPU alone. When the mass fraction of rGO is 1 %, the total smoke release and smoke factor decreased by 25 and 38 %, respectively, compared to those of pure WPU.  相似文献

In this work, new hydrogel films based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) were prepared with the aim of studying their ability as an antibacterial and drug carrier system. Gallic acid (GA) was used as an antibacterial drug which was encapsulated into the β‐CD cavity, and finally, β‐CD inclusion complex (GA/βCD‐IC) was prepared. On the other hand, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized on the graphene oxide (GO) surface (GO‐Ag), and the obtained GO‐Ag was used to enhance the antibacterial properties and mechanical strength of their films. FT‐IR and DSC analysis approved the formation of cross‐linking with glutaraldehyde between the PVA and β‐CD. Hydrogel films were characterized using XRD and SEM. The disc diffusion method showed the antibacterial activity for the films containing GO‐Ag and GA. Due to the good strength, elasticity, WVP, and swelling ability, PVA/GA/βCD‐IC/GO‐Ag can be proposed as a potential antibacterial drug delivery system.  相似文献

Electro-conductive cellulosic paper has attracted great attention as a promising alternative material in the emerging field of flexible and portable electronic devices. However, the environmentally friendly fabrication of electro-conductive cellulosic paper still remains challenging. Herein, green multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites towards the sustainable development strategy were developed and subsequently used to impart electro-conductivity to cellulosic paper via surface coating process. GO exfoliated from graphite powder was used as a dispersant to improve the dispersion of MWCNTs in water media, and nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) derived from cotton fibers was employed as a binder for the MWCNT/GO nanocomposites. Effect of NCC amount on the rheological behavior, particle size distribution, sedimentation stability and zeta potential of MWCNT/GO nanocomposites as well as the electro-conductivity and mechanical properties of coated paper was investigated. Results demonstrated that NCC enhanced the dispersion of MWCNT/GO nanocomposites in addition to serving as a binder. Surface coating application of MWCNT/GO nanocomposites was found to impart high electro-conductivity of up to 892 S m?1 to the cellulosic paper while improving its mechanical properties.  相似文献
