The Jahn-Teller effect in CH(3)CN(+) (X(2)E) and CD(3)CN(+) (X(2)E) has been found experimentally by zero kinetic energy (ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy using coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation. The vibronic bands of CH(3)CN(+) (X(2)E) and CD(3)CN(+) (X(2)E) at about 4500 cm(-1) above the ground states have been recorded. The spectra consist mainly of the Jahn-Teller active C-C[triple bond]N bending (v(8)), the CN stretching (v(2)), the CH(3) (CD(3)) deforming (v(6)), and the C-C stretching (v(4)) vibronic excitations. The Jahn-Teller active vibronic bands (v(8)) have been assigned with a harmonic model including linear and quadratic Jahn-Teller coupling terms, taking into account only the single mode vibronic excitation. The ionization potentials of CH(3)CN and CD(3)CN have also been determined, and their values are 12.2040(+/-0.001) and 12.2286(+/-0.001) eV, respectively.  相似文献

Monobenzene complexes of yttrium (Y), lanthanum (La), and lutetium (Lu), M(C(6)H(6)) (M = Y, La, and Lu), were prepared in a laser-vaporization supersonic molecular beam source and studied by pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy (ZEKE) spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. The calculations included the second-order perturbation, the coupled cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitation, and the complete active space self-consistent field methods. Adiabatic ionization energies and metal-benzene stretching frequencies of these complexes were measured for the first time from the ZEKE spectra. Electronic states of the neutral and ion complexes and benzene ring deformation were determined by combining the spectroscopic measurements with the theoretical calculations. The ionization energies of M(C(6)H(6)) are 5.0908 (6), 4.5651 (6), and 5.5106 (6) eV, and the metal-ligand stretching frequencies of [M(C(6)H(6))](+) are 328, 295, and 270 cm(-1) for M = Y, La, and Lu, respectively. The ground states of M(C(6)H(6)) and [M(C(6)H(6))](+) are (2)A(1) and (1)A(1), respectively, and their molecular structures are in C(2v) point group with a bent benzene ring. The deformation of the benzene ring upon metal coordination is caused by the pseudo Jahn-Teller interaction of (1(2)E(2)+1(2)A(1)+2(2)E(2)) e(2) at C(6v) symmetry. In addition, the study shows that spectroscopic behaviors of Y(C(6)H(6)) and La(C(6)H(6)) are similar to each other, but different from that of Lu(C(6)H(6)).  相似文献

Group 6 metal bis(benzene) sandwich complexes (M-bz(2): M=Cr, Mo, and W and bz=C(6)H(6)) were produced with laser vaporization molecular beam techniques and studied by pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Each sandwich complex is in a D(6h) eclipsed configuration with (1)A(1g) and (2)A(1g) as the neutral and cationic ground electronic states, respectively. The adiabatic ionization energies for Cr-, Mo-, and W-bz(2) are measured to be 44,081(7), 44,581(10), and 43,634(7) cm(-1), respectively. The metal-benzene stretch and benzene torsion frequencies of the ion are measured to be 264, 277, and 370 cm(-1) and 11, 21, and 45 cm(-1) for Cr-, Mo-, and W-bz(2), respectively. In addition, a C-H out-of-plane bending mode is measured to be 787 cm(-1) for the Cr(+)-bz(2) complex, while a C-C in-plane bending mode is measured to be 614 cm(-1) for the W(+)-bz(2) complex. The unusual trend in the ionization energy and metal-benzene stretch frequency indicates strong relativistic effects on tungsten binding.  相似文献

The Renner-Teller effect in C(2)H(2)(+)(X(2)Pi(u)) has been studied by using zero kinetic energy (ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy and coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation. The rotationally resolved vibronic spectra have been recorded for energies up to 2000 cm(-1) above the ground vibrational state. The C triple bond C symmetric stretching (upsilon(2)), the CCH trans bending (upsilon(4)), and the CCH cis bending (upsilon(5)) vibrational excitations have been observed. The assigned vibronic bands are 4(1)(1)(kappa(2)Sigma(u)(+))(hot band), 4(1)(0)(mu/kappa(2)Sigma (u)(-/+)), 5(1)(0)(mu/kappa(2)Sigma (g)(+/-)), and 4(2)(0)(mu(2)Pi(u)), 4(2)(0)(kappa(2)Pi(u)), 4(1)(0)5(1)(0) (mu(2)Pi(g)), 0(0)(0)(X(2)Pi(u)), and 2(1)(0)(X(2)Pi(u)). The Renner-Teller parameters, the harmonic frequencies, the spin-orbit coupling constants, and the rotational constants for the corresponding vibronic bands have been determined by fitting the spectra with energy eigenvalues from the Hamiltonian that considers simultaneously Renner-Teller coupling, vibrational energies, rotational energies, and spin-orbit coupling interaction.  相似文献

Copper complexes of pyrazine (1,4-C4H4N2), pyrimidine (1,3-C4H4N2), and pyridazine (1,2-C4H4N2) are produced in laser-vaporization supersonic molecular beams and studied by pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy (ZEKE) spectroscopy and second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation theory. Both sigma and pi complexes are considered by these ab initio calculations; only sigma structures are identified in these experiments. Adiabatic ionization energies and metal-ligand vibrational frequencies of the sigma complexes are measured from the ZEKE spectra. Metal-ligand bond dissociation energies of these complexes are obtained from a thermochemical cycle. The ionization energies follow the trend of Cu pyridazine (43,054 cm(-1)) < Cu pyrimidine (45,332 cm(-1)) < Cu pyrazine (46,038 cm(-1)); the bond energies are in the order of Cu pyridazine (56.2 kJ mol(-1)) > Cu pyrazine (48.5 kJ mol(-1)) approximately Cu pyrimidine (46.4 kJ mol(-1)). The stronger binding of pyridazine is due to its larger electric dipole moment and possibly bidentate binding.  相似文献

Gadolinium (Gd) complexes of benzene (C(6)H(6)) and (1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene) (C(8)H(8)) were produced in a laser-vaporization supersonic molecular beam source and studied by single-photon pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy (ZEKE) spectroscopy. Adiabatic ionization energies and metal-ligand stretching frequencies were measured for the first time from the ZEKE spectra. Metal-ligand bonding and electronic states of the neutral and cationic complexes were analyzed by combining the spectroscopic measurements with ab initio calculations. The ground states of Gd(C(6)H(6)) and [Gd(C(6)H(6))](+) were determined as (11)A(2) and (10)A(2), respectively, with C(6v) molecular symmetry. The ground states of Gd(C(8)H(8)) and [Gd(C(8)H(8))](+) were identified as (9)A(2) and (8)A(2), respectively, with C(8v) molecular symmetry. Although the metal-ligand bonding in Gd(C(6)H(6)) is dominated by the covalent interaction, the bonding in Gd(C(8)H(8)) is largely electrostatic. The bonding in the benzene complex is much weaker than that in the cyclooctatetraene species. The strong bonding in Gd(C(8)H(8)) arises from two-electron transfer from Gd to C(8)H(8), which creates a strong charge-charge interaction and converts the tub-shaped ligand into a planar form. In both systems, Gd 4f orbitals are localized and play little role in the bonding, but they contribute to the high electron spin multiplicities.  相似文献

The sterically crowded (C(5)Me(5))(3)U complex reacts with KC(8) or K/(18-crown-6) in benzene to form [(C(5)Me(5))(2)U](2)(mu-eta(6):eta(6)-C(6)H(6)), 1, and KC(5)Me(5). These reactions suggested that (C(5)Me(5))(3)U could be susceptible to (C(5)Me(5))(1-) substitution by benzene anions via ionic salt metathesis. To test this idea in the synthesis of a more conventional product, (C(5)Me(5))(3)U was treated with KN(SiMe(3))(2) to form (C(5)Me(5))(2)U[N(SiMe(3))(2)] and KC(5)Me(5). 1 has long U-C(C(5)Me(5)) bond distances comparable to (C(5)Me(5))(3)U, and it too is susceptible to (C(5)Me(5))(1-) substitution via ionic metathesis: 1 reacts with KN(SiMe(3))(2) to make its amide-substituted analogue [[(Me(3)Si)(2)N](C(5)Me(5))U](2)(mu-eta(6):eta(6)-C(6)H(6)), 2. Complexes 1 and 2 have nonplanar C(6)H(6)-derived ligands sandwiched between the two uranium ions. 1 and 2 were examined by reactivity studies, electronic absorption spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations. [(C(5)Me(5))(2)U](2)(mu-eta(6):eta(6)-C(6)H(6)) functions as a six-electron reductant in its reaction with 3 equiv of cyclooctatetraene to form [(C(5)Me(5))(C(8)H(8))U](2)(mu-eta(3):eta(3)-C(8)H(8)), (C(5)Me(5))(2), and benzene. This multielectron transformation can be formally attributed to three different sources: two electrons from two U(III) centers, two electrons from sterically induced reduction by two (C(5)Me(5))(1-) ligands, and two electrons from a bridging (C(6)H(6))(2-) moiety.  相似文献

CO, O(2), and H(2) adsorption on a clean W(2)C(0001)√13×√13 R ± 13.9° reconstructed surface at room temperature (RT) were investigated using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The W(2)C(0001) adsorbs CO molecularly and adsorbs O(2) dissociatively, but does not adsorb H(2) at RT. In the CO adsorption system, two C-O stretching (antisymmetric CCO stretching) modes were found at 242.3 meV (1954 cm(-1)) and at 253.0 meV (2041 cm(-1)). The low-frequency site is occupied at first with subsequent conversion to the high-frequency site with increasing coverage. Additionally, a small peak was apparent at 104.5 meV (843 cm(-1)), and a middle peak at 50-51 meV (400-410 cm(-1)), which are assignable to a symmetric stretching mode and a hindered translational mode, respectively, of a CCO (ketenylidene) species. These observations are consistent with the CO adsorption model on top of the surface carbon. For oxygen adsorption, two adsorption states were found at 65.2-68.1 meV (526-549 cm(-1)) and 73.6 meV (594 cm(-1)): typical frequencies to oxygen adsorption on metal surfaces. Results suggest that atomic oxygen adsorption occurred on a threefold hollow site of the second W layer.  相似文献

Optical absorption spectra were studied in wavelength region 400-900 nm for the Nd(3+)-doped alkali (R = Li, Na and K) chloroborophosphate glasses at room temperature. The energy level scheme of the 4f(3) electron configuration was deduced from the observed energy level data using a parametrized Hamiltonian (H(F1)) model which includes 20 free-ion interaction parameters. Reasonable correlation was obtained between the experimental and calculated energy levels. The Judd-Ofelt model for the intensity analysis of induced electric dipole transitions has been applied to the measured oscillator strengths of the absorption bands to determine the three phenomenological intensity parameters Omega(2), Omega(4) and Omega(6) for each glass. Using these parameters, the total radiative transition rates (A(T)), non-radiative relaxation rates (W(NR)), branching ratios (beta(R)), integrated cross-sections for the stimulated emission (Sigma), excited state emission intensities (f(ESE)) and excited state absorption intensities (f(ESA)) have been theoretically calculated for certain excited Nd(3+) fluorescent levels. From the results obtained, the conclusion is made about the possibility of using these glasses as laser media.  相似文献

Photoelectron spectra, with photon energies varying from 18 to 120 eV, have been measured for Ni(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(NO). Relative partial photoelectron cross sections and branching ratios have been evaluated for the first three valence ionization bands. He I and He II photoelectron spectra have been remeasured for Ni(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(NO) and Ni(eta(5)-C(5)H(4)CH(3))(NO). In the latter case, the fine structure on the first band differs from that in the previously published spectrum. Density functional calculations have been carried out to determine the ionization potentials of the lowest lying states of Ni(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(NO) as well as the corresponding photoionization cross sections and the resulting branching ratios using the LCGTO-DF and LDKL-DF methods, respectively. Both experimental and theoretical investigations lead to an ion state ordering (2)E(1) < (2)E(2) approximately (2)A(1)< (2)E(1) and an assignment of (2)E(1) states to the first and third bands with the (2)A(1) and (2)E(2) states comprising the second band. This differs from the original assignment in the literature, where the (2)A(1) ionization was assigned to a high-energy shoulder on the first band. The separation of this shoulder from the main band maximum of 0.23 eV (1850 +/- 81 cm(-)(1)) suggests that it may be caused by excitation of the NO stretching vibration in the ion. The neutral molecule has a NO stretch of 1832 cm(-)(1); the calculated energies for the neutral molecule and the cation are 1845 and 1911 cm(-)(1), respectively. Agreement between calculated and experimental ionization energies and good matching of the theoretical and measured branching ratios support the new assignment of the photoelectron spectrum.  相似文献

A series of cyclic hydrocarbons were introduced to react with V(+) and Ta(+) using a pulsed beam expansion source in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The third-row metal Ta(+) displayed high reactivity in dehydrogenation to form benzyne complexes, whereas benzene complexes were the terminal products for V(+). M(+)-C(6)H(6) (M(+) = V(+) and Ta(+)) and Ta(+)-C(6)H(4) were selected to perform the photodissociation experiments. In contrast to the V(+) fragment formation via simple cleavage of the V(+)-C(6)H(6) bond, a photoinduced loss of C(2)H(2) occurred in both the Ta(+)-C(6)H(6) and Ta(+)-C(6)H(4) complexes. Plausible explanations involved in the formation of Ta(+)-C(6)H(6) and Ta(+)-C(6)H(4) complexes are given for observing such photo-induced dissociation. The observed photodissociation in Ta(+)-C(6)H(6) is analogous to the dissociative process previously investigated in metal ion-molecule reactions. The photodissociation spectrum of Ta(+)-C(6)H(4) was obtained by recording the appearance of Ta(+)-C(4)H(2) as a function of wavelength and yielded a dissociation energy of 91 +/- 1 kcal mol(-1).  相似文献

A single-crystal X-ray determination of the [Li(CH(3)CN)(2)(+)](6-CH(3)-nido-5,6,9-C(3)B(7)H(9)(-)) salt has shown that the 6-CH(3)-nido-5,6,9-C(3)B(7)H(9)(-) tricarbadecaboranyl anion has a nido-cage geometry based on an octadecahedron missing the unique six-coordinate vertex. The resulting six-membered open face is puckered, with two of the cage carbons (C6 and C9) occupying the low-coordinate cage positions above the plane of the four remaining atoms (C5, B7, B8, and B10). The Li(+) ion is centered over the open face and is solvated by two acetonitrile molecules. The reactions of the 6-CH(3)-nido-5,6,9-C(3)B(7)H(9)(-) anion with various vanadium halide salts, including VCl(4), VCl(3), and VBr(2), each resulted in the isolation of the same five paramagnetic products (2-6) of composition V(CH(3)-C(3)B(7)H(9))(2). X-ray crystallographic determinations of 2-5 showed that the complexes consist of two octadecahedral VC(3)B(7) fragments sharing a common vanadium vertex and established their structures as commo-V-(1-V-4'-CH(3)-2',3',4'-C(3)B(7)H(9))(1-V-2-CH(3)-2,3,4-C(3)B(7)H(9)) (2), commo-V-(1-V-5'-CH(3)-2',3',5'-C(3)B(7)H(9))(1-V-4-CH(3)-2,3,4-C(3)B(7)H(9)) (3), commo-V-(1-V-5'-CH(3)-2',3',5'-C(3)B(7)H(9))(1-V-2-CH(3)-2,3,4-C(3)B(7)H(9)) (4), and commo-V-(1-V-2-CH(3)-2,3,4-C(3)B(7)H(9))(2) (5). These complexes can be considered as tricarbadecaboranyl analogues of vanadocene, (eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(2)V. However, unlike vanadocene, these complexes are air- and moisture-stable and have only one unpaired electron. The five complexes differ with respect to one another in that they either (1) contain different enantiomeric forms of the CH(3)-C(3)B(7)H(9) cages, (2) have a different twist orientation of the two cages, or (3) have the methyl group of the CH(3)-C(3)B(7)H(9) cage located in either the 2 or 4 position of the cage. Subsequent attempts to oxidize the compounds with reagents such as Br(2) and Ag(+) were unsuccessful, illustrating the ability of the tricarbadecaboranyl anion to stabilize metals in low oxidation states. Consistent with this, both the electrochemical oxidation and the reduction of 2 were much more positive than those of the same oxidation state changes in vanadocene. The one-electron reduction of 2 is a remarkable 2.9 V positive of that of Cp(2)V.  相似文献

Oxidation of N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine (TPD, 1 a) and N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine (1 b) with SbCl(5) affords the corresponding radical cations quantitatively. The crystal and molecular structure of 1 b and [1 b]SbCl(6), the first tetraphenyl benzidene derivatives to be characterised crystallographically in both the neutral and radical cation states, reveal molecular parameters in agreement with the predictions made on the basis of DFT studies. Analysis of the NIR transition in the radical cations [1](+) (.) allows an estimate of the electronic coupling parameter V (1 a(+) (.) 3200 cm(-1); 1 b(+) (.) 3300 cm(-1)), the reorganisation energy lambda(1 a(+) (.) 7500 cm(-1); 1 b(+) (.) 7800 cm(-1)), and the linear coupling constant l (1 a(+) (.) 3100 cm(-1); 1 b(+) (.) 2700 cm(-1)) of the symmetric mode.  相似文献

A series of cationic, neutral, and anionic allylgallium complexes has been isolated and fully characterized. It includes neutral [Ga(η(1)-C(3)H(5))(3)(L)] (1, L = THF; 2, L = OPPh(3)), cationic [Ga(η(1)-C(3)H(5))(2)(THF)(2)](+)[A](-) (3, [A](-) = [B(C(6)F(5))(4)](-); 4, [A](-) = [B(C(6)H(3)Cl(2))(4)](-)), as well as anionic [Cat](+)[Ga(η(1)-C(3)H(5))(4)](-) (5, [Cat](+) = K(+); 6, [Cat](+) = [K(dibenzo-18-c-6](+); 7, [Cat](+) = [PPh(4)](+)). Binding modes of the allyl ligand in solution and in the solid state have been studied comparatively. Single crystal X-ray analyses revealed a four-coordinate neutral gallium center in 2, a five-coordinate cationic gallium center in 4 and [4·THF], and a four-coordinate anionic gallium center with a bridging μ(2)-η(1):η(2) coordination mode of the allyl ligand in 6. The reactivity of this series of allylgallium complexes toward benzophenone and N-heteroaromatics has been investigated. Counterion effects have also been studied. Reactions of 1 and 5 with isoquinoline revealed the first examples of organogallium complexes reacting under 1,2-insertion with pyridine derivatives.  相似文献

Irradiation of samples of solid Ne near 3.0 K containing ethene (C(2)H(4)) with vacuum ultraviolet radiation at 120 nm from synchrotron yielded new spectral lines at 3141.0, 2953.6, 2911.5, 1357.4, 677.1, 895.3, and 857.0 cm(-1). These features are assigned to alpha-CH stretching (nu(1)), CH(2) antisymmetric stretching (nu(2)), CH(2) symmetric stretching (nu(3)), CH(2)-bending (nu(5)), HCCH cis bending (nu(7)), CH(2) out-of-plane bending (nu(8)), and alpha-CH out-of-plane bending (nu(9)) modes of C(2)H(3), respectively, based on results of (13)C- and D-isotopic experiments and quantum-chemical calculations. These calculations using density-functional theory (B3LYP and PW91PW91/aug-cc-pVTZ) predict vibrational wavenumbers, IR intensities, and isotopic ratios of vinyl radical that agree satisfactorily with our experimental results.  相似文献

By preparing methyl bromide (CH3Br) in selected rotational levels of the CH3Br(X(1)A1; v1 = 1) state with infrared (IR) laser excitation prior to vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) laser pulsed field ionization-photoelectron (PFI-PE) measurements, we have observed rotationally resolved photoionization transitions to the CH3Br(+)(X(2)E(3/2); v1(+) = 1) state, where v1 and v1(+) are the symmetric C-H stretching vibrational mode for the neutral and cation, respectively. The VUV-PFI-PE origin band for CH3Br(+)(X(2)E(3/2)) has also been measured. The simulation of these IR-VUV-PFI-PE and VUV-PFI-PE spectra have allowed the determination of the v1(+) vibrational frequency (2901.8 +/- 0.5 cm(-1)) and the ionization energies of the origin band (85 028.3 +/- 0.5 cm(-1)) and the v1(+) = 1 <-- v1 = 1 band (84 957.9 +/- 0.5 cm(-1)).  相似文献

Reaction of the dinuclear [(CH2SiMe3)(mu-CH2SiMe3)Mn(THF)]2 (1) with an equivalent amount of 1,1-dipyrrolylcyclohexane afforded two compounds depending on the solvent employed. Reaction carried out in THF afforded the dinuclear ([1,1-(mu-C4H3N)(C4H3N)C6H10]Mn(THF)2)2.2(THF) (2) while reaction in toluene yielded the octanuclear and cyclic cluster ([1,1-(mu,eta1:eta5-C4H3N)2C6H10]Mn)8.4(toluene) (3). The magnetism in all three cases is dominated by intramolecular antiferromagnetic exchange with strong coupling in 1 (J=-85 cm(-1)), and in 2 (J=-23.2 cm(-1)), whereas substantially weaker coupling through the sigma/pi-bonded dipyrrolide bridges (J=-3.3 cm(-1)) was observed within the cyclic and octameric 3.  相似文献

Predissociation spectra of the H(5)O(2) (+)RG(n)(RG = Ar,Ne) cluster ions are reported in energy regions corresponding to both the OH stretching (3350-3850 cm(-1)) and shared proton (850-1950 cm(-1)) vibrations. The two free OH stretching bands displayed by the Ne complex are quite close to the band origins identified earlier in bare H(5)O(2) (+) [L. I. Yeh, M. Okumura, J. D. Myers, J. M. Price, and Y. T. Lee, J. Chem. Phys. 91, 7319 (1989)], indicating that the symmetrical H(5)O(2) (+) "Zundel" ion remains largely intact in H(5)O(2) (+)Ne. The low-energy spectrum of the Ne complex is simpler than that observed previously for H(5)O(2) (+)Ar, and is dominated by two sharp transitions at 928 and 1047 cm(-1), with a weaker feature at 1763 cm(-1). The H(5)O(2) (+)Ar(n),n = 1-5 spectra generally exhibit complex band structures reflecting solvent-induced symmetry breaking of the Zundel core ion. The extent of solvent perturbation is evaluated with electronic structure calculations, which predict that the rare gas atoms should attach to the spectator OH groups of H(5)O(2) (+) rather than to the shared proton. In the asymmetric complexes, the shared proton resides closer to the more heavily solvated water molecule, leading to redshifts in the rare gas atom-solvated OH stretches and to blueshifts in the shared proton vibrations. The experimental spectra are compared with recent full-dimensional vibrational calculations (diffusion Monte Carlo and multimode/vibrational configuration interaction) on H(5)O(2) (+). These results are consistent with assignment of the strong low-energy bands in the H(5)O(2) (+)Ne spectrum to the vibration of the shared proton mostly along the O-O axis, with the 1763 cm(-1) band traced primarily to the out-of-phase, intramolecular bending vibrations of the two water molecules.  相似文献

It is generally accepted that Raman spectroscopic investigations of gas hydrates provide vital information regarding the structure of the hydrate, hydrate composition and cage occupancies, but most research is focused on the vibrational spectra of the guest molecules. We show that the shape and position of the Raman signals of the host molecules (H(2)O) also contain useful additional information. In this study, Raman spectra (200-4000 cm(-1)) of (mixed) gas hydrates with variable compositions and different structures are presented. The bands in the OH stretching region (3000-3800 cm(-1)), the O-H bending region (1600-1700 cm(-1)) and the O-O hydrogen bonded stretching region (100-400 cm(-1)) are compared with the corresponding bands in Raman spectra of ice Ih and liquid water. The interpretation of the differences and similarities with respect to the crystal structure and possible interactions between guest and host molecules are presented.  相似文献

The products obtained in the reaction of cobalt atoms in neat benzene or in a benzene/argon mixture at low temperature have been reinvestigated. At least three cobalt-containing species were detected by IR, namely, Co(C(6)H(6)), Co(C(6)H(6))(2), and Co(x)(C(6)H(6)), x>1. The IR bands were assigned to these complexes by monitoring their behavior as a function of (a) Co and C(6)H(6) concentration, (b) isotopic substitution, and (c) photoirradiation. We were able to analyze the sample in neat benzene by both electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and IR spectroscopy and to determine the magnetic parameters (g tensor and Co hyperfine interaction) for the Co(C(6)H(6))(2) sandwich compound. The large number of fundamental bands observed in the IR spectrum of Co(C(6)H(6))(2), the absorption pattern observed in the Co-ring stretching region of the IR spectrum of the mixed complex, Co(C(6)H(6))(C(6)D(6)) and the orthorhombic g-values extracted from the EPR spectrum are most consistent with nonequivalent benzene ligands in Co(C(6)H(6))(2), i.e., C(s) symmetry. A bonding scheme consistent with both the EPR and IR data for Co(C(6)H(6))(2) is discussed.  相似文献
