Employing a high-resolution (velocity resolution deltanu/nu<1.5%) time-sliced ion velocity imaging apparatus, we have examined the photodissociation of CH2BrCl in the photon energy range of 448.6-618.5 kJ/mol (193.3-266.6 nm). Precise translational and angular distributions for the dominant Br(2P32) and Br(2P12) channels have been determined from the ion images observed for Br(2P32) and Br(2P12). In confirmation with the previous studies, the kinetic-energy distributions for the Br(2P12) channel are found to fit well with one Gaussian function, whereas the kinetic- energy distributions for the Br(2P32) channel exhibit bimodal structures and can be decomposed into a slow and a fast Gaussian component. The observed kinetic-energy distributions are consistent with the conclusion that the formation of the Br(2P32) and Br(2P12) channels takes place on a repulsive potential-energy surface, resulting in a significant fraction (0.40-0.47) of available energy to appear as translational energy for the photo fragments. On the basis of the detailed kinetic-energy distributions and anisotropy parameters obtained in the present study, together with the specific features and relative absorption cross sections of the excited 2A', 1A", 3A', 4A', and 2A" states estimated in previous studies, we have rationalized the dissociation pathways of CH2BrCl in the A-band, leading to the formation of the Br(2P32) and Br(2P12) channels. The analysis of the ion images observed at 235 nm for Cl(2P(32,12)) provides strong evidence that the formation of Cl mainly arises from the secondary photodissociation process CH2Cl + hnu --> CH2 + Cl.

The pulsed field ionization-photoelectron (PFI-PE) spectrum of bromochloromethane (CH2BrCl) in the region of 85,320-88,200 cm-1 has been measured using vacuum ultraviolet laser. The vibrational structure resolved in the PFI-PE spectrum was assigned based on ab initio quantum chemical calculations and Franck-Condon factor predictions. At energies 0-1400 cm-1 above the adiabatic ionization energy (IE) of CH2BrCl, the Br-C-Cl bending vibration progression (nu1+=0-8) of CH2BrCl+ is well resolved and constitutes the major structure in the PFI-PE spectrum, whereas the spectrum at energies 1400-2600 cm-1 above the IE(CH2BrCl) is found to exhibit complex vibrational features, suggesting perturbation by the low lying excited CH2BrCl+(A 2A") state. The assignment of the PFI-PE vibrational bands gives the IE(CH2BrCl)=85,612.4+/-2.0 cm-1 (10.6146+/-0.0003 eV) and the bending frequencies nu1+(a1')=209.7+/-2.0 cm-1 for CH2BrCl+(X2A'). We have also examined the dissociative photoionization process, CH2BrCl+hnu-->CH2Cl++Br+e-, in the energy range of 11.36-11.57 eV using the synchrotron based PFI-PE-photoion coincidence method, yielding the 0 K threshold or appearance energy AE(CH2Cl+)=11.509+/-0.002 eV. Combining the 0 K AE(CH2Cl+) and IE(CH2BrCl) values obtained in this study, together with the known IE(CH2Cl), we have determined the 0 K bond dissociation energies (D0) for CH2Cl+-Br (0.894+/-0.002 eV) and CH2Cl-Br (2.76+/-0.01 eV). We have also performed CCSD(T, full)/complete basis set (CBS) calculations with high-level corrections for the predictions of the IE(CH2BrCl), AE(CH2Cl+), IE(CH2Cl), D0(CH2Cl+-Br), and D0(CH2Cl-Br). The comparison between the theoretical predictions and experimental determinations indicates that the CCSD(T, full)/CBS calculations with high-level corrections are highly reliable with estimated error limits of <17 meV.  相似文献

Within the B? absorption band of CH(2)BrCl, we theoretically analyze the laser-induced control of the Br/Cl branching ratio, Br + CH(2)Cl ← CH(2)BrCl → CH(2)Br + Cl, with CH(2)BrCl initially in its vibrational ground state. For weak-field excitation, the Br/Cl branching ratio increases as a function of wavelength, however, for wavelengths below 180 nm the branching ratio cannot be made smaller than 0.4. Using optimal control theory, we show that the branching ratio can be made significantly less than 0.4, only when very strong fields are employed. Thus, the present work strongly suggests that a Tannor-Rice type laser control mechanism for selective bond breakage in CH(2)BrCl cannot take place without accompanying photoionization.

A beam containing CH(4), Cl(2), and He is expanded into a vacuum chamber where CH(4) is prepared via infrared excitation in a combination band consisting of one quantum of excitation each in the bending and torsional modes (nu(2)+nu(4)). The reaction is initiated by fast Cl atoms generated by photolysis of Cl(2) at 355 nm, and the resulting CH(3) and HCl products are detected in a state-specific manner using resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI). By comparing the relative amplitudes of the action spectra of Cl+CH(4)(nu(2)+nu(4)) and Cl+CH(4)(nu(3)) reactions, we determine that the nu(2)+nu(4) mode-driven reaction is at least 15% as reactive as the nu(3) (antisymmetric stretch) mode-driven reaction. The REMPI spectrum of the CH(3) products shows no propensity toward the formation of umbrella bend mode excited methyl radical, CH(3)(nu(2)=1), which is in sharp distinction to the theoretical expectation based on adiabatic correlations between CH(4) and CH(3). The rotational distribution of HCl(v=1) products from the Cl+CH(4)(nu(2)+nu(4)) reaction is hotter than the corresponding distribution from the Cl+CH(4)(nu(3)) reaction, even though the total energies of the two reactions are the same within 4%. An explanation for this enhanced rotational excitation of the HCl product from the Cl+CH(4)(nu(2)+nu(4)) reaction is offered in terms of the projection of the bending motion of the CH(4) reagent onto the rotational motion of the HCl product. The angular distributions of the HCl(nu=0) products from the Cl+CH(4)(nu(2)+nu(4)) reaction are backward scattered, which is in qualitative agreement with theoretical calculation. Overall, nonadiabatic product vibrational correlation and mode specificity of the reaction indicate that either the bending mode or the torsional mode or both modes are strongly coupled to the reaction coordinate.

The photodissociation dynamics of CH(2)Br(2) was investigated near 234 and 267 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion velocity imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton (REMPI) ionization scheme was utilized to obtain the angular and translational energy distributions of the nascent Br ((2)P(3/2)) and Br* ((2)P(1/2)) atoms. The obtained translational energy distributions of Br and Br* are found consist of two components which should be come from the radical channel and secondary dissociation process, respectively. It is suggested that the symmetry reduction from C(2v) to C(s) during photodissociation invokes a non-adiabatic coupling between the 2B(1) and A(1) states. Consequently, the higher internal energy distribution of Br channel than Br* formation channel and the broader translational energy distribution of the former are presumed correlate with a variety of vibrational excitation disposal at the crossing point resulting from the larger non-adiabatic crossing from 2B(1) to A(1) state than the reverse crossing. Moreover, the measured anisotropy parameter beta indicate that fragments recoil along the Br-Br direction mostly in the photodissociation.

The scattering dynamics leading to the formation of Cl (2P(3/2)) and Cl* (2P(1/2)) products of the CH(3)+HCl reaction (at a mean collision energy =22.3 kcal mol(-1)) and the Cl (2P(3/2)) products of the CD(3)+HCl reaction (at =19.4 kcal mol(-1)) have been investigated by using photodissociation of CH(3)I and CD(3)I as sources of translationally hot methyl radicals and velocity map imaging of the Cl atom products. Image analysis with a Legendre moment fitting procedure demonstrates that, in all three reactions, the Cl/Cl* products are mostly forward scattered with respect to the HCl in the center-of-mass (c.m.) frame but with a backward scattered component. The distributions of the fraction of the available energy released as translation peak at f(t)=0.31-0.33 for all the reactions, with average values that lie in the range =0.42-0.47. The detailed analysis indicates the importance of collision energy in facilitating the nonadiabatic transitions that lead to Cl* production. The similarities between the c.m.-frame scattering and kinetic energy release distributions for Cl and Cl* channels suggest that the nonadiabatic transitions to a low-lying excited potential energy surface (PES) correlating to Cl* products occur after passage through the transition state region on the ground-state PES. Branching fractions for Cl* are determined to be 0.14+/-0.02 for the CH(3)+HCl reaction and 0.20+/-0.03 for the CD(3)+HCl reaction. The difference cannot be accounted for by changes in collision energy, mass effects, or vibrational excitation of the photolytically generated methyl radical reagents and instead suggests that the low-frequency bending modes of the CD(3)H or CH(4) coproduct are important mediators of the nonadiabatic couplings occurring in this reaction system.

Ion imaging methods have enabled identification of three mechanisms by which (79)Br(+) and (35)Cl(+) fragment ions are formed following one-color multiphoton excitation of BrCl molecules in the wavelength range 324.6 > lambda > 311.7 nm. Two-photon excitation within this range populates selected vibrational levels (v'= 0-5) of the [X (2)Pi(1/2)]5ssigma Rydberg state. Absorption of a third photon results in branching between (i) photoionization (i.e. removal of the Rydberg electron-a traditional 2 + 1 REMPI process) and (ii)pi*<--pi excitation within the core, resulting in formation of one or more super-excited states with Omega= 1 and configuration [A (2)Pi(1/2)]5ssigma. The fate of the latter states involves a further branching. They can autoionize (yielding BrCl(+)(X (2)Pi) ions in a wider range of v(+) states than formed by direct 2 + 1 REMPI). Further, one-photon absorption by the parent ions resulting from direct ionization or autoionization leads to formation of Br(+) and (energy permitting) Cl(+) fragment ions. Alternatively, the super-excited molecules can fragment to neutral atoms, one of which is in a Rydberg state. Complementary ab initio calculations lead to the conclusion that the observed [Cl**[(3)P(J)]4s + Br/Br*] products result from direct dissociation of the photo-prepared super-excited states, whereas [Br**[(3)P(J)]5p + Cl/Cl*] product formation involves interaction between the [A (2)Pi(1/2)]5ssigma and [X (2)Pi(1/2)]5psigma Rydberg potentials at extended Br-Cl bond lengths. Absorption of one further photon by the resulting Br** and Cl** Rydberg atoms leads to their ionization, and thus their appearance in the Br(+) and Cl(+) fragment ion images.

Time-independent quantum scattering calculations have been carried out on the Walden inversion S(N)2 reaction Cl(-)+CH(3)Cl(')(v(1),v(2),v(3))-->ClCH(3)(v(1) ('),v(2) ('),v(3) ('))+Cl('-). The two C-Cl stretching modes (quantum numbers v(3) and v(3) (')) and the totally symmetric internal modes of the methyl group (C-H stretching vibration, v(1) and v(1) ('), and inversion bending vibration, v(2) and v(2) (')) are treated explicitly. A four-dimensional coupled cluster potential energy surface is employed. The scattering problem is formulated in hyperspherical coordinates using the exact Hamiltonian and exploiting the full symmetry of the problem. Converged state-selected reaction probabilities and product distributions have been calculated up to 6100 cm(-1) above the vibrational ground state of CH(3)Cl, i.e., up to initial vibrational excitation (2,0,0). In order to extract all scattering resonances, the energetic grid was chosen to be very fine, partly down to a resolution of 10(-12) cm(-1). Up to 2500 cm(-1) translational energy, initial excitation of the umbrella bending vibration, (0,1,0), is more efficient for reaction than exciting the C-Cl stretching mode, (0,0,1). The combined excitation of both vibrations results in a synergic effect, i.e., a considerably higher reaction probability than expected from the sum of both independent excitations, even higher than (0,0,2) up to 1500 cm(-1) translational energy. Product distributions show that the umbrella mode is strongly coupled to the C-Cl stretching mode and cannot be treated as a spectator mode. The reaction probability rises almost linearly with increasing initial excitation of the umbrella bending mode. The effect with respect to the C-Cl stretch is five times larger for more than two quanta in this mode, and in agreement with previous work saturation is found. Exciting the high-frequency C-H stretching mode, (1,0,0), yields a large increase for small energies [more than two orders of magnitude larger than (0,0,0)], while for translational energies higher than 2000 cm(-1), it becomes a pure spectator mode. For combined initial excitations including the symmetric C-H stretch, the spectator character of the latter is even more pronounced. However, up to more than 1500 cm(-1) translational energy, the C-H vibration does not behave adiabatically during the course of reaction, because only 20% of the initial energy is found in the same mode of the product molecule. The distribution of resonance widths and peak heights is discussed, and it is found that individual resonances pertinent to intermediate complexes Cl(-)...CH(3)Cl show product distributions independent of the initial vibrational state of the reactant molecule. The relatively high reactivity, of resonance states with respect to excitation of any mode, found in previous work is confirmed in the present calculations. However, reactivity of intermediate states and reactivity with respect to initial vibrational excitation have to be distinguished. There is a strong mixing between the vibrational states reflected in numerous avoided crossings of the hyperspherical adiabatic curves.

A detailed state-to-state dynamics study was performed to analyze the effects of vibrational excitation and translational energy on the dynamics of the Cl((2)P) + NH(3)(v) gas-phase reaction, effects which are connected to such issues as mode selectivity and Polanyi's rules. This reaction evolves along two deep wells in the entry and exit channels. At low and high collision energies quasi-classical trajectory calculations were performed on an analytical potential energy surface previously developed by our group, together with a simplified model surface in which the reactant well is removed to analyze the influence of this well. While at high energy the independent vibrational excitation of all NH(3)(v) modes increases the reactivity by a factor ≈1.1-2.9 with respect to the vibrational ground-state, at low energy the opposite behaviour is found (factor ≈ 0.4-0.9). However, when the simplified model surface is used at low energy the independent vibrational excitation of all NH(3)(v) modes increases the reactivity, showing that the behaviour at low energies is a direct consequence of the existence of the reactant well. Moreover, we find that this reaction exhibits negligible mode selectivity, first because the independent excitation of the N-H symmetric and asymmetric stretch modes, which lie within 200 cm(-1) of each other, leads to reactions with similar reaction probabilities, and second because the vibrational excitation of the reactive N-H stretch mode is only partially retained in the products. For this "late transition-state" reaction, we also find that vibrational energy is more effective in driving the reaction than an equivalent amount of energy in translation, consistent with an extension of Polanyi's rules. Finally, we find that the non-reactive events, Cl((2)P)+NH(3)(v) → Cl((2)P) + NH(3)(v'), lead to a great number of populated vibrational states in the NH(3)(v') product, even starting from the NH(3)(v = 0) vibrational ground state at low energies, which is unphysical in a quantum world. This result is interpreted on the basis of non-conservation of the ZPE per mode.
