The adsorption of methylene blue and crystal violet on pumice powder samples of varying compositions was investigated using a batch adsorption technique. The effects of various experimental parameters, such as adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, and contact time, were also investigated. The extent of dye removal increased with decreased initial concentration of the dye and also increased with increased contact time and amount of adsorbent used. Adsorption data were modeled using the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The adsorption kinetic of methylene blue and crystal violet could be described by the pseudo-second-order reaction model.  相似文献

The mesoporous carbon CMK-3 adsorbent was prepared, characterized, and used for the removal of anionic methyl orange dye from aqueous solution. Adsorption experiments were carried out as batch studies at different contact time, pH, initial dye concentration, and salt concentration. The dye adsorption equilibrium was rapidly attained after 60 min of contact time. Removal of dye in acidic solutions was better than in basic solutions. The adsorption of dye increased with increasing initial dye concentration and salt concentration. The equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models, which revealed that Langmuir model was more suitable to describe the methyl orange adsorption than Freundlich model. Experimental data were analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. It was found that kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order equation. Thermodynamic study showed that the adsorption was a spontaneous and exothermic process.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solution onto a cashew nut shell (CNS) was investigated as a function of parameters such as solution pH, CNS dose, contact time, initial MB dye concentration and temperature. The CNS was shown to be effective for the quantitative removal of MB dye, and the equilibrium was reached in 60 min. The experimental data were analysed by two-parameter isotherms (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models) using nonlinear regression analysis. The characteristic parameters for each isotherm and the related correlation coefficients were determined. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° were also evaluated, the sorption process was found to be spontaneous and exothermic. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and Elovich kinetic models were used to analyze the adsorption process. The results of the kinetic study suggest that the adsorption of MB dye matches the pseudo-second-order equation, suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. The adsorption process was found to be controlled by both surface and pore diffusion. Analysis of adsorption data using a Boyd kinetic plot confirmed that the external mass transfer is a rate determining step in the sorption process. A single-stage batch adsorber was designed for different CNS doses to effluent volume ratios using the Freundlich equation. The results indicated that the CNS could be used effectively to adsorb MB dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Mesoporous activated carbon has been prepared from coconut coir dust as support for adsorption of some model dye molecules from aqueous solutions. The methylene blue (MB) and remazol yellow (RY) molecules were chosen for study of the adsorption capacity of cationic and anionic dyes onto prepared activated carbon. The adsorption kinetics was studied with the Lagergren first- and pseudo-second-order kinetic models as well as the intraparticle diffusion model. The results for both dyes suggested a multimechanism sorption process. The adsorption mechanisms in the systems dyes/AC follow pseudo-second-order kinetics with a significant contribution of intraparticle diffusion. The samples simultaneously present acidic and basic sites able to act as anchoring sites for basic and acidic dyes, respectively. Calorimetric studies reveal that dyes/AC interaction forces are correlated with the pH of the solution, which can be related to the charge distribution on the AC surface. These AC samples also exhibited very short equilibrium times for the adsorption of both dyes, which is an economically favorable requisite for the activated carbon described in this work, in addition to the local abundance of the raw material.  相似文献

In this study, the adsorption characteristics of crystal violet (CV) and Congo red (CR) dyes from the aqueous solution onto prepared activated carbon were examined. The activated carbon was prepared from wood apple shell by chemical activation with ZnCl2. The parameters studied were the effect of contact time, initial dyes concentration, and pH of solution. The experimental equilibrium data were analyzed and fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of CV and CR dyes were found to be 142.85 and 83.33 mg per gram of prepared activated carbon at 298 K. The kinetic data obtained at different concentrations were analyzed using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models. Batch adsorption kinetic studies showed that the adsorption of dyes followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and at four different concentrations of both dyes, indicating that chemisorption is the rate-limiting step. Thermodynamic studies reveal that the removal of dyes from aqueous solution onto activated carbon was a spontaneous, feasible, and endothermic process at a temperature greater than standard equilibrium temperature.  相似文献

The present work investigates the preparation of promising biochar derived from date palm petioles powder (DPB) via a thermal treatment. DPB was characterized through various techniques to analyze the chemical (FTIR), morphological (SEM) and point of zero charges to investigate changes incorporated through the pyrolysis process. The adsorption of methyl orange (MO) onto the biochar was investigated using batch experiments according to different parameters which influence the adsorption process such as: initial dye concentration, equilibrium time, pH, and temperature. Isothermal and reuse studies of MO adsorption onto DPB were also investigated. Results of MO removal on DPB have demonstrated that the adsorption process was initial dye concentration-dependent, and equilibrium time was occurred in 60 min. The biochar presented high stability of MO adsorption capacity in a large domain of pH. Thermodynamic analysis of this process revealed that methyl orange adsorption was exothermic and spontaneous in nature. The experimental data were analyzed by pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order model, and the intraparticle-diffusion for kinetics and Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin models for isotherms.Kinetic adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order model and the intraparticle-diffusion within pores controlled the adsorption rate. The experimental data yielded good fits with in the following isotherms order: Langmuir > Temkin > Freundlich, The maximum adsorption capacity of MO on DPB was found 461 mg.g?1. The reusability study reveals the possibility of the reuse of DPB for three (03) cycles of adsorption–desorption, a slight decrease in the ability of methyl orange adsorption has noticed with the increase of the number of adsorption–desorption cycles : 81.03 %, 67.84 %, and 51.72 %, respectively. The found results of the present study show that the biochar derived from date palm petioles have the potential to be used as a promising adsorbent for the treatment of MO dye.  相似文献

In this research work, novel magnetic superabsorbent hydrogel nanocomposites (MSHNs) based on carboxymethyl cellulose were prepared via a facile “one‐pot” two step approach. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were in situ synthesized and incorporated into carboxymethyl cellulose/poly(acrylic acid) polymer hydrogel. The morphology and chemical composition of MSHNs as well as the presence of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were evaluated by using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐Ray diffraction, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The effect of different reaction parameters on the swelling capacity of MSHNs was investigated. Furthermore, batch adsorption experiments of crystal violet dye onto MSHNs were studied by varying solution pH, initial dye concentration, and temperature. Evaluation of thermodynamic parameters of crystal violet adsorption confirmed that the adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic process in nature. The equilibrium study revealed that the dye adsorption behavior of MHSNs followed the Redlich‐Peterson isotherm model. Finally, the dye adsorption experiment data was well fitted by the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model with the regression coefficient (R2) of 0.9979. Our results suggest that the MHSNs with facile preparation method, high swelling capacity, and high dye adsorption capacity may be used as promising adsorbents for fast removal of various dyes from aqueous solutions. Batch experiments were carried out for the sorption of methylene blue onto rice husk particles. The operating variables studied were initial solution pH, initial dye concentration, adsorbent concentration, and contact time. Equilibrium data were fitted to the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm equations and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Langmuir isotherm equation. The monolayer sorption capacity of rice husks for methylene blue sorption was found to be 40.5833 mg/g at room temperature (32 degrees C). The sorption was analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the sorption kinetics was found to follow a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Also the applicability of pseudo second order in modeling the kinetic data was also discussed. The sorption process was found to be controlled by both surface and pore diffusion with surface diffusion at the earlier stages followed by pore diffusion at the later stages. The average external mass transfer coefficient and intraparticle diffusion coefficient was found to be 0.01133 min(-1) and 0.695358 mg/g min0.5. Analysis of sorption data using a Boyd plot confirms that external mass transfer is the rate limiting step in the sorption process. The effective diffusion coefficient, Di was calculated using the Boyd constant and was found to be 5.05 x 10(-04) cm2/s for an initial dye concentration of 50 mg/L. A single-stage batch-adsorber design of the adsorption of methylene blue onto rice husk has been studied based on the Langmuir isotherm equation.  相似文献

The adsorption of rhodamine B (RhB) onto microwave-activated rice husk ash (ARHA) was conducted to demonstrate the capability of an inexpensive abundant biomaterial as an alternating bio-sorbent for the removal of dye residue from wastewater. Experimental data show that ARHA achieved the maximum adsorption capacity of 21.89 mg/g at pH 5.5 and 303 K. The absorption process was followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model and adsorption equilibrium data were well described by the Freundlich model. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the RhB adsorption onto ARHA was endothermic and spontaneous.  相似文献

Adsorption of Cu(II) from aqueous solution onto H(3)PO(4)-activated carbon using rubber wood sawdust (RSAC) was investigated in a batch system. Kinetic and isotherm studies were carried out by considering the effects of various parameters, such as initial concentration, contact time, pH, and temperature. The optimal pH value for Cu(II) adsorption onto RSAC was found to be 6.0. Thermodynamic parameters such as standard Gibbs free energy (DeltaG(0)), standard enthalpy (DeltaH(0)), and standard entropy (DeltaS(0)) were evaluated by applying the Van't Hoff equation. The thermodynamics of Cu(II) adsorption onto RSAC indicates its spontaneous and exothermic nature. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were used to analyze the equilibrium data at different temperatures. The Langmuir isotherm fits the experimental data significantly better than the other isotherms. Adsorption kinetics data were tested using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order reaction. The initial sorption rate, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion rate constants for different initial concentrations were evaluated and discussed. Adsorption mechanism studies revealed that the process was complex and followed both surface adsorption and particle diffusion. The rate-controlling parameter and effective diffusion coefficient were determined using the Reichenberg plot. It was found that the adsorption occurs through film diffusion at low concentrations and at higher concentration the particle diffusion becomes the rate-determining step.  相似文献

The equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamics of adsorption of triarylmethane dye, crystalline violet, from aqueous solutions on Ca-montmorillonite have been studied. The regularities of the influence of the physicochemical parameters (suspension pH, clay and dye concentrations, temperature, and contact time) on the specific adsorption value of the dye have been found. It has been shown that Ca-montmorillonite is capable of removing the dye from aqueous solutions in a wide range of concentrations with an efficiency of up to 99.8%. The adsorption of crystalline violet obeys the Langmuir model (the correlation coefficient is 0.999), which corresponds to monolayer adsorption on a homogeneous surface. The kinetics of dye adsorption is described by a pseudo-second-order equation, which is characteristic of chemisorption. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption, ΔH = 40.42 kJ/mol, ΔS = 139.6 J/mol, and ΔG =–4.68 kJ/mol (323 K), have been determined and lead to the conclusion that the dye adsorption is a spontaneous endothermic process.  相似文献

Batch sorption experiments were carried out to remove methylene blue from its aqueous solutions using fly ash as an adsorbent. Operating variables studied were initial dye concentration, fly ash mass, pH, and contact time. Maximum color removal was observed at a basic pH of 8. Equilibrium data were represented well by a Langmuir isotherm equation with a monolayer sorption capacity of 5.718 mg/g. Sorption data were fitted to both Lagergren first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the data were found to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics. Rate constants at different initial concentrations were estimated. The process mechanism was found to be complex, consisting of both surface adsorption and pore diffusion. The effective diffusion parameter D(i) values were estimated at different initial concentrations and the average value was determined to be 2.063 x 10(-9)cm2/s. Analysis of sorption data using a Boyd plot confirms the particle diffusion as the rate-limiting step for the dye concentration ranges studied in the present investigation (20 to 60 mg/L).  相似文献

The adsorption of zinc and cyanide from cyanide effluents onto strong and weak basic anion exchange resins was studied in a batch adsorption system. Factors influencing the adsorption rates such as resin selection, resin amounts, contact time and temperature were studied and scanning electron microscopy-energy disperse spectroscopy(SEM-EDS) was used in the analysis. The present study shows that the adsorption capacity of resin 201×7 is better than that of resin 301. The adsorption process was relatively fast and came to equilibrium after 60 min. The kinetic data were analyzed with three models and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model was found to agree with the experimental data well. The equilibrium data could also be described well by Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy change(ΔH0), free energy change(ΔG0) and entropy change(ΔS0) were calculated and the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic.  相似文献

We studied the adsorption of Brilliant Yellow (BY) from aqueous solutions onto sepiolite and determined the adsorption equilibrium isotherms. We applied pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models; the adsorption of BY onto sepiolite was best described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental data obtained at different temperatures were analyzed using various isotherm models; the Koble–Corrigan isotherm model provided the best fits for the BY adsorption data at all temperatures. The thermodynamic parameters of the BY adsorption onto sepiolite indicated that the adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic in nature.  相似文献

The adsorption behavior of Rhodamine B dye from aqueous solutions was investigated onto the cation-exchange resin, Duolite C-20 (hydrogen form). The effects of various experimental factors; sorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration and temperature, were studied by using the batch technique. Lagergren pseudo-first-order equation shows good applicability with high correlation coefficients for all ranges of initial dye concentrations and at different temperatures. This equation was used to describe the kinetics of the dye adsorption process. The adsorption constants were evaluated by using both the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters were obtained and it was found that the adsorption of Rhodamine B dye onto Duolite C-20 resin was an endothermic and spontaneous process at the temperatures under investigation.  相似文献

This study investigates the adsorption of Congo red (CR) dye onto corn cob based activated carbon (CCAC) in the batch process. The activated carbon was characterized using FTIR, SEM, and EDX techniques, respectively. The effect of operational parameters such as the initial dye concentration (10–50?mg/L), contact time (5–160 minutes), and solution temperature (30–50°C) were studied. The amount of the CR dye adsorbed was found to increase as these operational parameters increased. Kinetic data for CR dye adsorption onto CCAC were best represented by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. Four different isotherms namely Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models were used to test the adsorption data. It fitted the Langmuir isotherm model most. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH0, ΔS0, and ΔG0 were evaluated. The adsorption process was found to be exothermic and spontaneous. The study shows that CCAC is an effective adsorbent for the adsorption of CR dye from aqueous solution.

The sorption of basic dyes (methylene blue, malachite green, rhodamine B, crystal violet) onto a nonconventional organomineral sorbent-iron humate-was examined in the presence of various kinds of surfactants. It was found that nonionic (Triton X-100) and cationic (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) surfactants exhibited a relatively small effect on the dye sorption. Anionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate), on the other hand, affected (in most cases) dramatically the sorption of basic (cationic) dyes. Typically, the dye sorption was enhanced in the presence of low concentrations of anionic surfactants. At high surfactant concentrations, a steep decrease in the dye sorption was observed in some systems, probably due to the formation of micelles that solubilize the dye molecules and prevent their sorption. A model describing these experimental dependencies was proposed. The sorption of basic dyes onto iron humate may be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. Diffusion processes were identified as the main mechanisms controlling the rate of the dye sorption.  相似文献
