Mass spectra of meso-phenyl-substituted tetrabenzoporphyrins were investigated by fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry. A cluster of adduct ions with mass-to-charge ratio values higher than the corresponding molecular ions of the porphyrins has been observed. The mass number differences among the series of cluster ions are constant depending on the para-phenyl substituents. Under certain conditions, dimers or trimers of molecular ions with low abundances have been detected. To trace the origin of the adduct ions, a series of experiments based on mass spectrometry have been carried out. The mass spectrum of tetrabenzoporphyrin showed no adduct ions with mass number differences of 90 even with the addition of phenylacetic acid. The mass spectrum of meso-tetraphenylte-trabenzoporphyrin 13C-labeled at the meso carbons showed adduct ions with mass number differences of 91. Product spectra of [2M + H]+ or [3M + H]+ of porphyrins exhibited adduct ions. All these results suggest that fragmentations of [2M + H]+ or [3M + H]+ may be one of the many possible routes to form the adduct ions, and the mass number differences among the series of these cluster ions should correspond to the benzyl group from the meso positions of meso-phenyl-substituted tetrabenzoporphyrins.  相似文献

Some ion-formation processes during fast atom bombardment (FAB) are discussed, especially the possibility of reactions in the gas phase. Divided (two halves) FAB probe tips were used for introducing two different samples into the source at the same time. Our results showed [M + A]+ ions (where M = crown ethers and A = alkali metal ions), can be produced, at least in part, in the gas phase when crown ethers and sources of alkali metal ion are placed on two halves of the FAB probe tip. The extent of this ion formation depends on the volatility of the crown ether and on steric factors. Cluster ions such as (M + LiCl)Li+, (2M + LiCl)Li+, [2M + K]+ and [2M + Na]+ are also observed to form in the gas phase. Unimolecular decompositions contribute to some ions detected in FAB. When the alkali ion salt and the crown ether are mixed together the probability of [M + A]+ ion formation increases significantly, regardless of the volatility of the crown ether.  相似文献

The gas-phase H/D exchange of bradykinin [M + H]+, [M + Na]+, [M + 2H]2+, and [M + H + Na]2+ ions; des-Arg1-bradykinin, des-Arg9-bradykinin, and bradykinin fragment 2-7 [M + H]+ ions; and O-methylbradykinin [M + H]+ and [M + 2H]2+ ions with D2O have been examined by electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry at 9.4 T. The different peptides vary widely in exchange rate and extent of deuterium incorporation. H/D exchange was slowest and deuterium incorporation was least for bradykinin [M + H]+, [M + H + Na]2+ and bradykinin methyl ester [M + 2H]2+ ions. In contrast, H/D exchange and extent of deuteration are higher for des-Arg1-bradykinin, des-Arg9-bradykinin, and bradykinin fragment 2-7 [M + H]+ ions; and highest for bradykinin [M + Na]+ and [M + 2H]2+, and O-methylbradykinin [M + H]+. Because the most likely site of protonation is the guanidino group of arginine, the above reactivity pattern strongly supports a zwitterion form for protonated gas-phase bradykinin.  相似文献

Positive-ion fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectra of flavonol and steroid glycosides with sodium chloride added showed well known characteristic features; of the appearance of [M + Na]+ peaks, disappearance of [M + H]+ peaks and a significant decrease in the peak heights of fragment ions. Compared with the features in the FAB mass spectra of crown ethers with addition of salt, and above features suggest a complexation between Na+ and the glycosides in matrix solution. The B/E-constant linked scanning technique was used to obtain structural information of the [M + Na]+ ion of the glycosides. The B/E spectra gave the daughter-ion peaks, suggesting that coordination of Na+ with the biosides and triosides occurs at the sugar moiety, whereas the coordination with the monoglycosides occurs at the aglycone moiety, except for monoglycosides in which the aglycone moiety does not contain significant oxygen functional groups such as OH and CO.  相似文献

In the field desorption mass spectrometry of oligosaccharides, traces of contaminating salts in polar solvents decrease the detection sensitivity, and in some cases no ion could be detected in the molecular range. The present work shows that the addition of alkaline salts (NaI or KI) greatly increases the sensitivity, and cationized molecular ions are obtained. The influence of the molar ratio sugar/salt on the nature and relative intensity of the desorbed species has been studied on mixtures of α-D -trehalose and NaI. At the low salt ratio (100:1), high molecular weight clusters [X M + Na]+ are preferentially formed. At the high salt ratio (1:10), mixed clusters [M + NaI + Na]+, doubly charged ions [M + 2Na]2+ and monomeric cationized ions [M + Na]+ are observed along with salt clusters [NaI + Na]+ and [2NaI + Na]+. In the range of molar ratios sugar/salt of 10:1 to 1:1, the field desorption mass spectra exhibit a cationized ion [M + Na]+, which contributes more than 80% of Σ100. This cationization technique has been applied to the field desorption mass spectrometry of several oligosaccharides. In all cases, the salt effect causes the replacement of the [M + H]+ ion by a [M + C]+ ion. (Note: the term [M + C]+ and similar ones mean an association between the whole molecule studied (M) and an alkaline cation [C]+ ([K)]+, [Na]+, [Li]+).) Thus, di, tri- and tetrasaccharides exhibit intense [M + Na]+ ions in the presence of NaI and only a few fragment peaks are observed in their field desorption mass spectra. This technique has been applied successfully to the detection of the hexasaccharide ajugose in a natural sample of pentasaccharide, and has also allowed the unambiguous determination of the composition of a mixture of partially methylated trehaloses. The salt effects are dicussed in terms of selective adsorption on the emitter, pre-existing soluble complexes sugar-salt, interactions between these species in the electric field and dissociative desorption of ionic complexes.  相似文献

High field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) provides atmospheric pressure, room temperature, low-resolution separation of gas-phase ions. The FAIMS analyzer acts as an ion filter that can continuously transmit one type of ion, independent of m/z. The combination of FAIMS with electrospray ionization and mass spectrometry (ESI-FAIMS-MS) is a powerful technique and is used in this study to investigate the cluster ions of leucine enkephalin (YGGFL). Separation by FAIMS of leucine enkephalin ions having the same m/z (m/z 556.5), [M + H]+ and [2M + 2H]2+, was observed. In addition, four complex ions of leucine enkephalin, [2M + H]+, [4M + 2H]2+, [6M + 3H]3+, and [8M + 4H]4+, all having m/z 1112, were shown to be separated in FAIMS. Fragmentation of ions as the result of harsh conditions within the mass spectrometer interface (FAIMS-MS) was shown to provide similar information to that obtained from MS/MS experiments in conventional ESI-MS.  相似文献

2,3‐Dimethyl‐2,3‐dinitrobutane (DMNB) is an explosive taggant added to plastic explosives during manufacture making them more susceptible to vapour‐phase detection systems. In this study, the formation and detection of gas‐phase [M+H]+, [M+Li]+, [M+NH4]+ and [M+Na]+ adducts of DMNB was achieved using electrospray ionisation on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The [M+H]+ ion abundance was found to have a strong dependence on ion source temperature, decreasing markedly at source temperatures above 50°C. In contrast, the [M+Na]+ ion demonstrated increasing ion abundance at source temperatures up to 105°C. The relative susceptibility of DMNB adduct ions toward dissociation was investigated by collision‐induced dissociation. Probable structures of product ions and mechanisms for unimolecular dissociation have been inferred based on fragmentation patterns from tandem mass (MS/MS) spectra of source‐formed ions of normal and isotopically labelled DMNB, and quantum chemical calculations. Both thermal and collisional activation studies suggest that the [M+Na]+ adduct ions are significantly more stable toward dissociation than their protonated analogues and, as a consequence, the former provide attractive targets for detection by contemporary rapid screening methods such as desorption electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry. A detailed study has been carried out of the fast atom bombardment tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) behavior of lithium-attachment ions from three glycol polymers: linear poly(ethylene glycol), linear poly(propylene glycol), and an ethoxylated fatty alcohol. Collisional activation was carried out in the “collision octapole” of a BEoQ hybrid mass spectrometer at a translational energy of 50 eV, with collision gas air. It was found that [M + Li]+ ions provide a number of advantages as precursors for practical MS/MS analysis as compared to the use of [M + H]+ or [M + Na]+ ions. First, [M + Li]+ ions are much more intense than the corresponding [M + H]+ ions. Second, [M + Li]+ ions dissociate to lithiated organic fragments with reasonable efficiency, which is not the case with [M + Na]+ precursors. Third, product ions are generally formed over the entire mass range for low molecular weight polyglycols. The most intense product ions are lithiated, linear polyglycol oligomers. These ions are formed via internal hydrogen transfer reactions which are facilitated by lithium (charge-induced). Two series of less intense product ions are formed via charge-remote fragmentations involving l,4-hydrogen elimination. A fourth product ion series consists of lithiated radical cations; these form via homolytic bond cleavages near chain ends. Overall, MS/MS analysis of [M + Li]+ polyglycol ions proved to be quite useful for chemical structure elucidation.  相似文献

The ion-molecule reactions of dimethyl ether ions CH3OCH3 + and (CH3OCH3)H+, and four- to seven-membered ring lactams with methyl substituents in various positions were characterized by using a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer and a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. In both instruments, the lactams were protonated by dimethyl ether ions and formed various combinations of [M + 13] +, [M + 15] +, and [M + 45] + adduct ions, as well as unusual [M + 3] + and [M + 16] + adduct ions. An additional [M + 47] + adduct ion was formed in the conventional chemical ionization source of the triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. The product ions were isolated and collisionally activated in the quadrupole ion trap to understand formation pathways, structures, and characteristic dissociation pathways. Sequential activation experiments were performed to elucidate fragment ion structures and stepwise dissociation sequences. Protonated lactams dissociate by loss of water, ammonia, or methylamine; ammonia and carbon monoxide; and water and ammonia or methylamine. The [M + 16] + products, which are identified as protonated lactone structures, are only formed by those lactams that do not have an N-methyl substituent. The ion-molecule reactions of dimethyl ether ions with lactams were compared with those of analogous amides and lactones.  相似文献

We installed a cold‐spray ionization (CSI) source on a mass spectrometer to investigate the self‐assembly behavior of an aggregation‐induced emission enhancement system. Using a CSI source and the three‐dimensional platform, a self‐assembly system of a salicylaldehyde azine (SAA) was studied in mixture solution. This method permitted the determination of the structural information of the solution state, which cannot be detected by conventional mass spectrometry. In addition to the [M+H]+ ion (M is the SAA molecule), many major ion clusters such as [2M+Na]+ at m/z 503, [3M+Na]+ at m/z 743, [4M+Na]+ at m/z 983 and higher order aggregates were observed in the CSI mass spectra. However, many fragment ions, with the exception of cluster ions, appeared with high abundance when the ESI ion source was used due to the desolvation chamber temperature, suggesting that some aggregation can be detected at low temperatures. To investigate the effect of solvent on the aggregation, the CSI‐mass spectrometry (MS) experiments of SAA in absolute ethanol solution and ethanol/water (good/poor solvent) mixture solution were conducted. The most abundant ion peak was protonated SAA (m/z 241) in absolute ethanol, but many cluster ions and some multiple charged ion peaks were observed after adding a small amount of water into the ethanol solution. The results showed good agreement with that inferred by the combinational analysis of scanning electron microscope and fluorescence microscopy, indicating that CSI‐MS is capable of providing self‐assembly information of labile molecules in the solution state. The effect of alkali metal cationization on the collision-induced decomposition of alkyl per-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-bromo-and-iodo-α-O-mannopyranosides was studied. The bromo sugars gave fairly abundant MH+, whereas for the iodo sugars the MH+ ions were insignificant. However, both the bromo and the iodo derivatives gave abundant M + alkali metal ion complexes. In contrast to the behaviour of the MH+ ion, the [M + Li]+, [M + Na]+ and [M + K]+ ions of these compounds do not decompose by loss of the C(1) substituent. Elimination of AcOH is the preferred fragmentation pathway of [M + Cat]+. Elimination of HX occurs only after loss of AcOH and CH2CO from MH+, whereas [M + Cat]+ directly loses HX. The elimination of HX is more pronounced from [M + Na]+ and [M + K]+ than from [M + Li]+. Loss of AcOLi is an additional fragmentation route observed in the case of the decomposition of [M + Li]+ ion.  相似文献

A good understanding of gas‐phase fragmentation chemistry of peptides is important for accurate protein identification. Additional product ions obtained by sodiated peptides can provide useful sequence information supplementary to protonated peptides and improve protein identification. In this work, we first demonstrate that the sodiated a3 ions are abundant in the tandem mass spectra of sodium‐cationized peptides although observations of a3 ions have rarely been reported in protonated peptides. Quantum chemical calculations combined with tandem mass spectrometry are used to investigate this phenomenon by using a model tetrapeptide GGAG. Our results reveal that the most stable [a3 + Na ? H]+ ion is present as a bidentate linear structure in which the sodium cation coordinates to the two backbone carbonyl oxygen atoms. Due to structural inflexibility, further fragmentation of the [a3 + Na ? H]+ ion needs to overcome several relatively high energetic barriers to form [b2 + Na ? H]+ ion with a diketopiperazine structure. As a result, low abundance of [b2 + Na ? H]+ ion is detected at relatively high collision energy. In addition, our computational data also indicate that the common oxazolone pathway to generate [b2 + Na ? H]+ from the [a3 + Na ? H]+ ion is unlikely. The present work provides a mechanistic insight into how a sodium ion affects the fragmentation behaviors of peptides. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The gas-phase ion chemistry of protonated O,O-diethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates was studied with tandem mass spectrometric and ab initio theoretical methods. Collision-activated dissociation (CAD) experiments were performed for the [M+H]+ ions on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Various amounts of internal energy were deposited into the ions upon CAD by variation of the collision energy and collision gas pressure. In addition to isobutane, deuterated isobutane C4D10 also was used as reagent gas in chemical ionization. The daughter ions [M+H?C2H4]+ and [M+H?2C2H4]+ dominate the CAD spectra. These fragments arise via various pathways, each of which involves γ-proton migration. Formation of the terminal ions [M+H?2C2H4?H2O]+, [M+H?2C2H4?H2S]+, [ZPhOH2]+, [ZPhSH2]+, and [ZPhS]+ [Z = substituent(s) on the benzene ring] suggests that (1) the fragmenting [M+H]+ ions of O,O-diethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates have protons attached on the oxygen of an ethoxy group and on the oxygen of the phenoxy group; (2) thiono-thiolo rearrangement by aryl migration to sulfur occurs; (3) the fragmenting rear-ranged [M+H]+ ions have protons attached on the oxygen of an ethoxy group and on the sulfur of the thiophenoxy group. To get additional support for our interpretation of the mass spectrometric results, some characteristics of three protomers of O,O-diethyl O-phenyl phosphorothionate were investigated by carrying out ab initio molecular orbital calculations at the RHF/3–21G* level of theory.  相似文献

Conyza blinii Le'vl is a medicinal herb used for the treatment of inflammation in Chinese folk medicine. Its major bioactive constituents are triterpene saponins, most of which contain 6–8 sugar residues. In this report, electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry fragmentation behaviors of bisdesmosidic triterpene saponins (conyzasaponin A, B, and C) were studied in both positive and negative ion modes with an ion‐trap mass spectrometer. In full scan mass spectrometry, these saponins gave predominant [M–H]? and [M+Na]+ ions, which determined the molecular weights. In tandem mass spectrometry (MSn, n = 2–4), the [M–H]? and [M+Na]+ ions yielded fragments [Y–H]? and [Bα+Na]+, which were diagnostic for the structures of the triterpene skeleton and sugar chains. The structural elucidation was approved by accurate mass data using IT‐TOF‐MS. An interpretation guideline based on MSn (n = 2–4) diagnostic ions was proposed in order to elucidate the chemical structures of unknown triterpene saponins in C. blinii extract. The saponins in C. blinii were separated by liquid chromatography with a methanol/acetonitrile/water solvent system, and then analyzed by ion‐trap and IT‐TOF mass spectrometers. Based on the interpretation guideline, a total of 35 triterpenoid saponins were tentatively identified. Among them, 15 saponins had been previously reported, and the other 20 saponins were reported from Conyza species for the first time. This study indicates that LC/MS is a powerful technology for the rapid characterization of complicated saponins in herbal extracts. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

N‐Boc/Fmoc/Z‐N′‐formyl‐gem‐diaminoalkyl derivatives, intermediates particularly useful in the synthesis of partially modified retro‐inverso peptides, have been characterized by both positive and negative ion electrospray ionization (ESI) ion‐trap multi‐stage mass spectrometry (MSn). The MS2 collision induced dissociation (CID) spectra of the sodium adduct of the formamides derived from the corresponding N‐Fmoc/Z‐amino acids, dipeptide and tripeptide acids show the [M + Na‐NH2CHO]+ ion, arising from the loss of formamide, as the base peak. Differently, the MS2 CID spectra of [M + Na]+ ion of all the N‐Boc derivatives yield the abundant [M + Na‐C4H8]+ and [M + Na‐Boc + H]+ ions because of the loss of isobutylene and CO2 from the Boc protecting function. Useful information on the type of amino acids and their sequence in the N‐protected dipeptidyl and tripeptidyl‐N′‐formamides is provided by MS2 and subsequent MSn experiments on the respective precursor ions. The negative ion ESI mass spectra of these oligomers show, in addition to [M‐H]?, [M + HCOO]? and [M + Cl]? ions, the presence of in‐source CID fragment ions deriving from the involvement of the N‐protecting group. Furthermore, MSn spectra of [M + Cl]? ion of N‐protected dipeptide and tripeptide derivatives show characteristic fragmentations that are useful for determining the nature of the C‐terminal gem‐diamino residue. The present paper represents an initial attempt to study the ESI‐MS behavior of these important intermediates and lays the groundwork for structural‐based studies on more complex partially modified retro‐inverso peptides. The collision‐induced dissociation (CID) and electron‐induced dissociation (EID) spectra of the [(NaCl)m(Na)n]n+ clusters of sodium chloride have been examined in a hybrid linear ion trap Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer. For singly charged cluster ions (n = 1), mass spectra for CID and EID of the precursor exhibit clear differences, which become more pronounced for the larger cluster ions. Whereas CID yields fewer product ions, EID produces all possible [(NaCl)xNa]+ product ions. In the case of doubly charged cluster ions, EID again leads to a larger variety of product ions. In addition, doubly charged product ions have been observed due to loss of neutral NaCl unit(s). For example, EID of [(NaCl)11(Na)2]2+ leads to formation of [(NaCl)10(Na)2]2+, which appears to be the smallest doubly charged cluster of sodium chloride observed experimentally to date. The most abundant product ions in EID spectra are predominantly magic number cluster ions. Finally, [(NaCl)m(Na)2]+ . radical cations, formed via capture of low‐energy electrons, fragment via the loss of [(NaCl)n(Na)] . radical neutrals. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Specific reactivity of cis- and trans-indanediols has been investigated under dimethyl ether (DME) chemical ionization conditions. Several unusual species, such as [M + 29]+ and [M + 27]+ ions, are produced in high yield. From DME pressure variations and tandem mass spectrometry experiments (low-energy collisions with Ar and NH3) including some labeled compounds, it appears that [M + 29]+ ions are generated by nucleophilic substitution according to a SNi pathway from the proton bound[M + DMEH]+ adduct ion. On the other hand, [M + 27]+ ions are produced from the covalent [M + DME ? H]+ adduct ions via a stepwise process inducing a water loss. This latter dehydration occurs from the adducts prepared by [DME ? H]+ attachment to the homobenzylic hydroxy site, which allows internal proton transfer from the charged position to the benzylic hydroxy group, promotingthe loss of water. In addition, trans indanediol labeled with 18O has been used to obtain evidence for the regioselectivity of both water-loss mechanisms from the benzylic site.  相似文献

Mechanisms are proposed for the formation of M+, [M + 2H]+ and [M + 3H]+ ions in the fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectra of 4-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxyl)-piperidol and its carboxylates. Free radical quenching induced by the fast atom beam has been observed. The effects of temperature on the radical quenching and of acid on the FAB mass spectra are discussed. The experiment showed that the volatile liquid samples with vapour pressures higher than that for glycerol produced M+ even-electron molecular ions, and the FAB mass spectra were similar to the corresponding electron ionization mass spectra. For the solid samples, it was found that the free radicals were quenched during the FAB process so that the mononitroxide and dinitroxide compounds produced [M + 2H]+ and [M + 3H]+ ions, respectively. Further experiments showed that the intensities and stabilities of [M + 2H]+ and [M + 3H]+ ions could be improved by addition of acids.  相似文献

The thermal desorption of [M + Alkali]+ quasimolecular ions from a heated metal surface is reported for some alkali salts of carboxylic acids and mixtures of alkali halides with a crown ether, glucose and adenosine. No quasimolecular ion could be detected from sucrose. With benzo[15]crown-5 the desorption of [M + Na]+ ions takes place even below the threshold temperature for thermionic emission of alkali ions. In addition, the desorption of intact [B(C6H5)4]? ions from a layer of NaB(C6H5)4 is reported.  相似文献

Geometrically isomeric dicarboxylic acids, such as maleic and fumaric acid and their methyl homologues, and the isomeric phthalic acids, have been investigated using fast atom bombardment, field ionization and field desorption mass spectrometry. The most intense peak in the positive ion fast atom bombardment spectra corresponds with the [M + H]+ ion. This ion, when derived from the E -acids, tragments either by successive loss of water and carbon monoxide or by elimination of carbon dioxide. In the case of the Z -acids only elimination of water from the [M + H]+ ions is observed to occur to a significant extent. The same is true for the [M + H]+ ions of the isomeric phthalic acids, that is the [M + H] ions derived from iso- and terephthalic acid exhibit more fragmentation than those of phthalic acid. All these acids undergo much less fragmentation upon field ionization, where not only abundant [M + H]+ ions, but also abundant [M] ions, are observed. Upon field desorption only the [M + H]+ and [M + Na]+ ions are observed under the measuring conditions. Negative ion fast atom bombardment spectra of the acids mentioned have also been recorded. In addition to the most abundant [M? H]? ions relatively intense peaks are observed, which correspond with the [M]?˙ ions. The fragmentations observed for these ions appear to be quite different from those reported in an earlier electron impact study and in a recent atmospheric pressure ionization investigation.  相似文献
