We report the synthesis of the water‐soluble cryptophanol derivative 1 and the study of the chiroptical properties of its two enantiomers (>99 % ee) by polarimetry, electronic circular dichroism (ECD), and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD). We show that cryptophanol 1 exhibits unusual chiroptical properties in water under basic conditions (pH>12). For instance, the shapes of the ECD and VCD spectra of 1 in water were strongly dependent on the nature of the alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Cs+) surrounding the cryptophane and whether or not a guest molecule is present inside the cavity of the host. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example in which the nature of these counterions governs the chiroptical properties of a host molecule. Moreover, specific ECD spectra were obtained depending on the size of the guest molecules. This makes 1 a good sensor for small neutral molecules in aqueous solvent. Finally, VCD experiments associated with DFT calculations show that the chiroptical changes can be directly correlated to the presence of charges close to the aromatic rings and with a conformational change of the alkyl chains upon encapsulation.  相似文献

The synthesis of redox‐active p‐ and o‐quinones 2‐phenylamino‐4‐phenylimino[6]helicene‐1‐one 1 , 2‐phenylamino[6]‐helicene‐1,4‐dione 2 , and 4‐phenyl[6]helicene‐1,2‐dione 3 in their enantiopure forms by post‐functionalization of (P)‐ and (M)‐1,2‐dimethoxy[6]helicene is presented. Structural characterization in solution and in the solid state was accomplished by 2D NMR spectroscopy methods and X‐ray diffraction analysis, respectively. Interpretation of electrochemical redox data was accompanied by a detailed orbital picture, derived from DFT calculations. The electronic structures of compounds 1 – 3 were investigated by UV/Vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy, complemented by TD‐DFT calculations. Quinones 1 – 3 were chemically reduced to study the EPR signatures of their respective radical anions. DFT methods were used for the atom assignment of the hyperfine coupling constants. The results are discussed within the context of electrochromic chiral switches and molecular recognition.  相似文献

A stable chiral hetero[4]helicene radical cation was synthesized and characterized by UV/Vis absorption and EPR spectroscopy, as well as X‐ray crystallography. For the first time, a combination of chiroptical methods involving ECD, ORD, and VCD, supported by quantum mechanical predictions, enabled the elucidation of the absolute configuration of such open‐shell helical species.  相似文献

Aza[n]helicene phosphole derivatives have been prepared from aza[n]helicene diynes by the Fagan–Nugent route. Their photophysical properties (UV/Vis absorption and emission behavior) have been evaluated. Their behavior as P,N chelates towards coordination to PdII and CuI has been investigated: metal–bis(aza[n]helicene phosphole) assemblies are formed by a highly stereoselective coordination process, as demonstrated by X‐ray crystallography. An aza[6]helicene phosphole bearing an enantiopure helicene part has been obtained, which allows the preparation of enantiopure PdII and CuI complexes with original topologies and high molar rotation (MR) and circular dichroism (CD). The structure–property relationship established from the experimental data has been studied in detail by theoretical studies (TDDFT calculations of UV/Vis, CD, and MR). Aza[n]helicene phosphole derivatives show π conjugation extended over the entire molecule, and its influence on the MR of aza[6]helicene phosphole 5 c has been demonstrated. Finally, it has been shown that the nature of the metal (coordination geometry and electronic interaction) can have a great impact on the amplitude of the chiroptical properties in metal–bis(aza[n]helicene phosphole) assemblies.  相似文献

Homochiral and heterochiral cis‐bis‐cycloplatinated‐[6]helicene derivatives 1 b1, 2 , as representative examples of platina[6]helicenes that share a common platinum center, have been prepared. A diastereo‐ and enantioselective synthesis, which combines CH activation and dynamic isomerization from heterochiral structure 1 b2 into homochiral structure 1 b1 , is also described. Overall, this isomerization process results in the transfer of chiral information from one helicene moiety to the other one. The chiroptical properties of homochiral (P)‐ and (M)‐ 1 b1 were greatly modified upon oxidation into their corresponding (P)‐ and (M)‐diiodo‐PtIV complexes ( 5 ). The changes were also analyzed by performing theoretical calculations. C? H activation in the synthesis of organometallic helicenes is further demonstrated by the preparation of cis‐bis‐cycloplatinated‐[8]helicene 1 c .  相似文献

Synthesis of new azonia derivatives of thia[6]helicene ( 1 ) and thia[7]helicene ( 2 ) is described. The Knoevenagel condensation of 2‐methylbenzothieno[3,2‐a]quinolizinium salt ( 8 ) with appropriate arylaldehydes yielded 2‐(arylvinyl)benzothieno[3,2‐a]quinolizinium salts ( 9 and 10 ), respectively. Photocyclization of 2‐styrylbenzothieno[3,2‐a]quinolizinium salt ( 8 ) gave 7a‐azonia‐5‐thia[6]helicene ( 1 ) in 63% yield. Similarly, 2‐[2‐(2‐naphthyl)vinyl]benzothieno[3,2‐a]quinolizinium salt ( 10 ) afforded 7a‐azonia‐5‐thia[7]helicene ( 2 ) in 56% yield. The complete and unambiguous assignment of their 1H‐ and 13C‐nmr spectra was performed by utilizing two‐dimensional nmr spectroscopic methods.  相似文献

Three forms of chiroptical spectroscopies, electronic circular dichroism (ECD), vibrational circular dichroism (VCD), and optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) have been employed to study the configuration and conformational properties of the three molecules: (S)-3-phenylcyclopentanone, (S)-3-phenylcyclohexanone, and (S)-3-phenylcycloheptanone (including (S)-3-phenylcyclopentanone-2,2,5,5-d4 and (S)-3-phenylcyclohexanone-2,2,6,6-d4). ECD and VCD spectra in the mid-IR for the three molecular systems are marginally dependent on fine conformational details, as interpreted in terms of standard DFT computational methods, with common spectroscopic features to the three systems clearly identified. Accounting for vibronic coupling mechanisms reproduces the structuring of ECD n→π band. The ORD curves are quite similar for the three types of molecules, but their interpretation highlights a crucial role played by conformations of the cycloalkanone ring in the case of (S)-3-phenylcycloheptanone. The same conclusions are reached by considering the VCD spectra in the CH-stretching region.  相似文献

Electroactive fused ethylenedithio? tetrathiafulvalene? [4]helicene and ‐[6]helicenes have been synthesized through a strategy that involved the preparation of 2,3‐dibromo‐helicene derivatives as intermediates. The dihedral angles between the terminal helicenes, as determined by single‐crystal X‐ray analysis, are 22.7° and 50.7° for the [4]helicene and [6]helicene, respectively. Their solid‐state architectures show interplay between S???S and π???π intermolecular interactions. The chiroptical properties of the enantiopure EDT? TTF? [6]helicene derivatives have been investigated and supported by TDDFT calculations. Remarkable redox switching of the circular dichroism (CD) signal between the neutral and radical‐cation species has been achieved.  相似文献

Two novel chiral ruthenium(II) complexes, Δ‐[Ru(bpy)2(dmppd)]2+ and Λ‐[Ru(bpy)2(dmppd)]2+ (dmppd = 10,12‐dimethylpteridino[6,7‐f] [1,10]phenanthroline‐11,13(10H,12H)‐dione, bpy = 2,2′‐bipyridine), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H‐NMR and ES‐MS. The DNA‐binding behaviors of both complexes were studied by UV/VIS absorption titration, competitive binding experiments, viscosity measurements, thermal DNA denaturation, and circular‐dichroism spectra. The results indicate that both chiral complexes bind to calf‐thymus DNA in an intercalative mode, and the Δ enantiomer shows larger DNA affinity than the Λ enantiomer does. Theoretical‐calculation studies for the DNA‐binding behaviors of these complexes were carried out by the density‐functional‐theory method. The mechanism involved in the regulating and controlling of the DNA‐binding abilities of the complexes was further explored by the comparative studies of [Ru(bpy)2(dmppd)]2+ and of its parent complex [Ru(bpy)2(ppd)]2+ (ppd = pteridino[6,7‐f] [1,10]phenanthroline‐11,13 (10H,12H)‐dione).  相似文献

For this study, twisted π‐extended helicene 1 and double helicene 2 with a helicene framework were synthesized through palladium‐catalyzed C?H arylation or Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction. X‐ray crystallography revealed grossly twisted structures that were soluble in various conventional organic solvents. Optical properties based on UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra were measured. Electrochemical properties were also studied by measurements of cyclic voltammetry in 1 and 2 , which revealed their HOMO and the LUMO energies. Theoretical calculation supports their HOMO and LUMO energies and molecular orbitals. Furthermore, a racemization process of 2 predicted that the activation free energy at 300 K would be 31.8 kcal mol?1 by DFT calculation, which indicated the static helicity at 300 K.  相似文献

Chiroptical techniques are increasingly employed for assigning the absolute configuration of chiral molecules through comparison of experimental spectra with theoretical predictions. For assignment of natural products, electronic chiroptical spectroscopies such as electronic circular dichroism (ECD) are routinely applied. However, the sensitivity of electronic spectral parameters to experimental conditions and the theoretical methods employed can lead to incorrect assignments. Vibrational chiroptical methods (vibrational circular dichroism, VCD, and Raman optical activity, ROA) provide more reliable assignments, although they, in particular ROA, have been little explored for assignments of natural products. In this study, the ECD, VCD, and ROA chiroptical spectroscopies are evaluated for the assignment of the absolute configuration of a highly flexible natural compound with two stereocenters and an asymmetrically substituted double bond, the marine antibiotic Synoxazolidinone A (SynOxA), recently isolated from the sub-Arctic ascidian Synoicum pulmonaria. Conformationally averaged nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), ECD, Raman, ROA, infrared (IR) and VCD spectral parameters are computed for the eight possible stereoisomers of SynOxA and compared to experimental results. In contrast to previously reported results, the stereochemical assignment of SynOxA based on ECD spectral bands is found to be unreliable. On the other hand, ROA spectra allow for a reliable determination of the configuration at the double bond and the ring stereocenter. However, ROA is not able to resolve the chlorine-substituted stereogenic center on the guanidinium side chain of SynOxA. Application of the third chiroptical method, VCD, indicates unique spectral features for all eight SynOxA isomers in the theoretical spectra. Although the experimental VCD is weak and restricted by the limited amount of sample, it allows for a tentative assignment of the elusive chlorine-substituted stereocenter. VCD chiroptical analysis of a SynOxA derivative with three stereocenters, SynOxC, results in the same absolute configuration as for SynOxA. Despite the experimental challenges, the results convincingly prove that the assignment of absolute configuration based on vibrational chiroptical methods is more reliable than for ECD.  相似文献

Recently, it was observed that infrared (IR) and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) calculations including deuterated hydroxyl groups in phenolic and saccharide moieties improved significantly the agreement with experimental data obtained in methanol-d4. In the present study, the relative and absolute configurations of three methanol-soluble caffeic acid ester derivatives 13, isolated from Tithonia diversifolia, were established by a combined use of experimental and calculated 13C NMR chemical shifts, as well as electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and VCD spectroscopies. Interestingly, the attempt to reproduce the deuteration pattern arising from possible isotopic exchange in methanol-d4 solution led to nearly mirror image calculated VCD spectra for 1 when compared to the non-deuterated molecule with the same absolute configuration. This latter fact can potentially lead to absolute configuration misassignments. A closer inspection of the vibrational chiroptical properties of 1 revealed that the deuteration status of the tertiary hydroxyl group at C-2 is critical for the correct reproduction of experimental VCD data in protic solvents. Therefore, in the case of stereochemical analysis of polar chiral natural product molecules, a combination of VCD and ECD is recommended.  相似文献

Assignment of the most established electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra of polypeptides and foldamers is either “evidence based” or relies on the 3D structures of longer oligomers of limited internal dynamics, which are derived from NMR spectroscopy (or X-ray) data. Critics warn that the use of NMR spectroscopy and ECD side by side has severe limitations for flexible molecules because explicit knowledge of conformational ensembles is a challenge. Herein, an old–new method of comparing ab initio computed and measured vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) data is presented to validate both the structures (conf(i)) and their relative weights (c(i)) that make up the conformational ensemble. Based on the array of {conf(i), c(i)}, the pure ECD spectra, g(i)conf(i), can be ab initio calculated. The reconstructed spectrum Σc(i)g(i)conf(i) can thus help to assign any experimental ECD counterparts. Herein, such a protocol is successfully applied to flexible foldamer building blocks of sugar β-amino acid diamides. The epimeric pair of the model system was selected because these molecules were conformationally tunable by simple chemical modification, and thus, the robustness of the current approach could be probed. The initial hydrogen bond (NH⋅⋅⋅O) eliminated by N-methylation reorients the amide plain, which influences the chiroptical properties of the foldamer building block; this structural change is successfully monitored by changes to the VCD and ECD transitions, which are now assigned to pure conformers. The current method seems to be general and effective without requiring extensive CPU and spectroscopic resources.  相似文献

Synthesis of helically chiral aromatics resulting from fusion of pyrene and [4]‐ or [5]helicene has been accomplished using photoredox catalysis employing a Cu‐based sensitizer as the key step. Photocyclisation experiments for the synthesis of the target compounds were carried out in batch and using continuous flow strategies. The solid‐state structures, UV/Vis absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene–helicene hybrids were investigated and compared to that of the parent [5]helicene to discern the effects of merging a pyrene moiety within a helicene skeleton. The studies demonstrated that pyrene–helicene hybrids adopt co‐planar or stacked arrangements in the solid state, in contrast to the solid‐state structure of the parent [5]helicene. The UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of the pyrene–helicene hybrids exhibited strong red‐shifts when compared to the parent [5]helicene. DFT calculations suggest that the strategy of extending the π surface in the y axis of the helicenes increased their HOMO levels while also decreasing their LUMO levels, resulting in significantly reduced band gaps.  相似文献

The absolute configuration of 5‐(3‐bromophenyl)‐4‐hydroxy‐5‐methylhexan‐2‐one, an intermediate in the synthesis of various natural products, is assigned by using vibrational circular dichroism (VCD), electronic circular dichroism (ECD), and optical rotatory dispersion (ORD). Experimental spectra were compared to density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the molecule with known configuration. These three techniques independently confirm that the absolute configuration is (S)‐5‐(3‐bromophenyl)‐4‐hydroxy‐5‐methylhexan‐2‐one, thus enabling us to assign the absolute configuration with high reliability. The reliability of the VCD analysis was assessed quantitatively by using the CompareVOA program. We found that, in cases in which the agreement between theory and experiment was very good, a value of 10 cm?1 for the triangular weighting function gave a more‐realistic discriminative power between enantiomers than the default value of 20 cm?1.  相似文献

We report a molecular design and concept using π‐system elongation and steric effects from helicenes surrounding a triphenylene core toward stable chiral polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with a maximal π‐distortion to tackle their aromaticity, supramolecular and molecular properties. The selective syntheses, and the structural, conformational and chiroptical properties of two diastereomeric large multi‐helicenes of formula C90H48 having a triphenylene core and embedding three [5]helicene units on their inner edges and three [7]helicene units at their periphery are reported based on diastereoselective and, when applicable, enantiospecific Yamamoto‐type cyclotrimerizations of racemic or enantiopure 9,10‐dibromo[7]helicene. Both molecules have an extremely distorted triphenylene core, and one of them exhibits the largest torsion angle recorded so far for a benzene ring (twist=36.9°).  相似文献

A new short‐step synthesis of 8a‐azonia[6]helicene (1) and the novel dithieno derivatives ( 2 and 3 ) is described. Double photocyclization of 2,8‐distyrylquinolizinium salt (8) gave 1 in 35% yield. Similarly, 2,8‐bis[2‐(2‐thienyl)vinyl]‐ and 2,8‐bis[2‐(3‐thienyl)vinyl]‐quinolizinium salts ( 9 and 10 ) afforded new azonia[6]helicenes containing two thiophene rings at the ends of helix, that is 7a‐azonia‐3,12‐dithia[6]helicene (2) and 7a‐azonia‐1,14‐dithia[6]helicene (3) , in 43 and 35% yields, respectively. The total assignment of their 1H‐ and 13C‐nmr spectra was performed by utilizing two‐dimensional and NOE nmr spectroscopic methods.  相似文献

The bis(vinyl ruthenium)‐modified squaraine dye 1 was synthesized by treatment of [RuHCl(CO)(PiPr3)2] with bis(ethynyl)‐substituted squaraine 8 . Spectroscopic and electrochemical measurements on 1 and its organic precursors 6 – 8 were performed to study the effect of the vinyl ruthenium “substituents,” particularly with respect to (poly)electrochromism. Attachment of the vinyl ruthenium moieties endows metal–organic squaraine 1 with two additional oxidation waves and lowers the first two oxidation potentials by approximately 300 mV with respect to its organic precursors. Squaraines 6 , 7 , 8 , and 1 strongly absorb at 648, 663, 656, or 709 nm. Although organic dyes 6 , 7 , and 8 fluoresce, no room‐temperature emission is observed for 1 . The radical cations and anions of 6 , 7 , 8 , and 1 as well as the doubly oxidized dications have been studied by IR and UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemistry, and the ?/0/+/2+ redox sequences were found to be reversible in each case. Our results indicate that the 12?/?/0/+/2+ redox system constitutes a polyelectrochromic switch in which absorption in the visible or the near‐infrared range is reversibly turned off or shifted deep into the NIR. They also show that radical cation 1.+ is an intrinsically delocalized system with only little contribution from the outer vinyl ruthenium tags to the oxidation process. Dication 12+ constitutes a class‐II mixed‐valent system with two electronically different vinyl ruthenium moieties and has an open‐shell singlet electronic ground‐state structure. ESR and NMR spectra of chemically prepared 1.+ and 12+ corroborate these results. It has also emerged that reduction involves an orbital that is strongly delocalized across the entire squaraine π system and strongly affects the peripheral vinyl ruthenium sites.  相似文献

Herein, we have synthesized an enantiomerically pure propeller-shaped PAH, C90H48, possessing three [7]helicene and three [5]helicene subunits. This compound can be obtained in gram quantities in a straightforward manner. The photophysical and chiroptical properties were investigated using UV/Vis absorption and emission, optical rotation and circular dichroism spectroscopy, supported by DFT calculations. The nonlinear optical properties were investigated by two-photon absorption measurements using linearly and circularly polarized light. The extremely twisted structure and packing of the homochiral compound were investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.  相似文献

Herein, we report two new types of twisted polycyclic arenes ( 2 a , b and 3 a , b ) with constitutionally isomeric π‐backbones, which are synthesized by controlling the Scholl reaction of 1,2,4,5‐tetra(naphth‐2‐yl)‐3,6‐diphenylbenzene ( 1 ) with properly positioned electron‐donating substituents. With a polycyclic backbone containing two [5]helicene and four [4]helicene moieties, 2 a and b are new members of multiple helicenes with interesting stereochemistries. The as‐synthesized 2 a and b are the twisted isomers, and thermal isomerization of twisted‐ 2 b results in anti‐ 2 b , a more stable stereoisomer. Both twisted‐ and anti‐ 2 b have been fully characterized, and the thermal isomerization of twisted‐ 2 b has been studied with 1H NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Compounds 3 a and b are new members of twistacenes, the benzannulated pentacene backbone of which exhibits an end‐to‐end twist as found from the crystal structure. Twisted‐ and anti‐ 2 b are also found to function as p‐type semiconductors in solution‐processed thin film transistors, whereas the thin films of 3 b appear insulating presumably due to the lack of π–π interactions.  相似文献
