Complete dehydrogenation of methane is studied on model Pt catalysts by means of state‐of‐the‐art DFT methods and by a combination of supersonic molecular beams with high‐resolution photoelectron spectroscopy. The DFT results predict that intermediate species like CH3 and CH2 are specially stabilized at sites located at particles edges and corners by an amount of 50–80 kJ mol?1. This stabilization is caused by an enhanced activity of low‐coordinated sites accompanied by their special flexibility to accommodate adsorbates. The kinetics of the complete dehydrogenation of methane is substantially modified according to the reaction energy profiles when switching from Pt(111) extended surfaces to Pt nanoparticles. The CH3 and CH2 formation steps are endothermic on Pt(111) but markedly exothermic on Pt79. An important decrease of the reaction barriers is observed in the latter case with values of approximately 60 kJ mol?1 for first C? H bond scission and 40 kJ mol?1 for methyl decomposition. DFT predictions are experimentally confirmed by methane decomposition on Pt nanoparticles supported on an ordered CeO2 film on Cu(111). It is shown that CH3 generated on the Pt nanoparticles undergoes spontaneous dehydrogenation at 100 K. This is in sharp contrast to previous results on Pt single‐crystal surfaces in which CH3 was stable up to much higher temperatures. This result underlines the critical role of particle edge sites in methane activation and dehydrogenation.  相似文献

Direct conversion of methane with carbon dioxide to value‐added chemicals is attractive but extremely challenging because of the thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness of both molecules. Herein, the first dinuclear cluster species, RhVO3?, has been designed to mediate the co‐conversion of CH4 and CO2 to oxygenated products, CH3OH and CH2O, in the temperature range of 393–600 K. The resulting cluster ions RhVO3CO? after CH3OH formation can further desorb the [CO] unit to regenerate the RhVO3? cluster, leading to the successful establishment of a catalytic cycle for methanol production from CH4 and CO2 (CH4+CO2→CH3OH+CO). The exceptional activity of Rh‐V dinuclear oxide cluster (RhVO3?) identified herein provides a new mechanism for co‐conversion of two very stable molecules CH4 and CO2.  相似文献

A facile strategy was reported to fabricate a novel Pt‐based metal oxide double‐shelled hollow nanospheres (MDSHs), which avoided the traditional tedious procedures. It was attractive that the formation mechanism of DSHs involved redeposition of etch‐released silica species and self‐assembly of metal oxide units. To verify the successful synthesis and structure features of Pt‐LCDSHs catalyst, the as‐prepared samples were characterized by several techniques, such as SEM, N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm analysis, TEM, EDX, XRD and XPS. Results indicated that all of MDSHs possessed double‐shelled structures with both the inner and outer shells composing of metal oxide units. Interestingly, the metal oxide of the DHSs could offer abundant active points for Pt NPs and the space between the double shells also could be filled with Pt NPs. What's more, compared with the pure samples, the Pt‐embedded La2O3‐CeO2‐DSHs exhibited the highest catalytic performance (6.58 × 10?3 min?1) and good reusability with a conversion of 94% even after eight cycles, which were evaluated by means of the reduction of 4‐nitrophenol monitored by UV–vis spectra. Finally, a possible reaction mechanism for the reduction reaction on Pt‐based La2O3‐CeO2‐DSHs was also proposed.  相似文献

By supporting platinum (Pt) and cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles on indium oxide (In2O3), we fabricated a CdS/Pt/In2O3 photocatalyst. Selective photoreduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4) was achieved on CdS/Pt/In2O3 with electronic Pt−In2O3 interactions, with CH4 selectivity reaching to 100 %, which is higher than that on CdS/Pt/In2O3 without electronic Pt−In2O3 interactions (71.7 %). Moreover, the enhancement effect of electronic Pt-(metal-oxide) interactions on selective photoreduction of CO2 to CH4 also occurs by using other common metal oxides, such as photocatalyst supports, including titanium oxide, gallium oxide, zinc oxide, and tungsten oxide. The electronic Pt-(metal-oxide) interactions separate photogenerated electron-hole pairs and convert CO2 into CO2δ−, which can be easily hydrogenated into CH4 via a CO2δ−→HCOO*→HCO*→CH*→CH4 path, thus boosting selective photoreduction of CO2 to CH4. This offers a new way to achieve selective photoreduction of CO2.  相似文献

The chlorine dioxide radical (ClO2.) was found to act as an efficient oxidizing agent in the aerobic oxygenation of methane to methanol and formic acid under photoirradiation. Photochemical oxygenation of methane occurred in a two‐phase system comprising perfluorohexane and water under ambient conditions (298 K, 1 atm). The yields of methanol and formic acid were 14 and 85 %, respectively, with a methane conversion of 99 % without formation of the further oxygenated products such as CO2 and CO. Ethane was also photochemically converted into ethanol (19 %) and acetic acid (80 %). The methane oxygenation is initiated by the photochemical Cl?O bond cleavage of ClO2. to generate Cl. and O2. The produced Cl. reacts with CH4 to form a methyl radical (CH3.). Finally, the oxygenated products such as methanol and formic acid were given by the radical chain reaction. A fluorous solvent plays an important role of inhibiting the deactivation of reactive radical species such as Cl. and CH3..  相似文献

Vanadium–silicon heteronuclear oxide cluster cations were prepared by laser ablation of a V/Si mixed sample in an O2 background. Reactions of the heteronuclear oxide cations with methane in a fast‐flow reactor were studied with a time‐of‐flight (TOF) mass spectrometer to detect the cluster distribution before and after the reactions. Hydrogen abstraction reactions were identified over stoichiometric cluster cations [(V2O5)n(SiO2)m]+ (n=1, m=1–4; n=2, m=1), and the estimated first‐order rate constants for the reactions were close to that of the homonuclear oxide cluster V4O10+ with methane. Density functional calculations were performed to study the structural, bonding, electronic, and reactivity properties of these stoichiometric oxide clusters. Terminal‐oxygen‐centered radicals (Ot . ) were found in all of the stable isomers. These Ot . radicals are active sites of the clusters in reaction with CH4. The Ot . radicals in [V2O5(SiO2)1–4]+ clusters are bonded with Si rather than V atoms. All the hydrogen abstraction reactions are favorable both thermodynamically and kinetically. This work reveals the unique properties of metal/nonmetal heteronuclear oxide clusters, and may provide new insights into CH4 activation on silica‐supported vanadium oxide catalysts.  相似文献

Mass spectrometric analysis of the anionic products of interaction between platinum atomic anions, Pt?, and methane, CH4 and CD4, in a collision cell shows the preferred generation of [PtCH4]? and [PtCD4]? complexes and a low tendency toward dehydrogenation. [PtCH4]? is shown to be H?Pt?CH3? by a synergy between anion photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations, implying the rupture of a single C?H bond. The calculated reaction pathway accounts for the observed selective activation of methane by Pt?. This study presents the first example of methane activation by a single atomic anion.  相似文献

A density functional theory analysis of the reactions of methane and O2 with d10-L2M complexes (M = Pd, Pt; L = N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), PMe3) is presented. Computations suggest that reaction of L2M0 with O2/CH4 to form cis- (L)2M(OOH)(CH3) is only slightly uphill (ΔG ∼ 10-11 kcal/mol). Based on calculated thermodynamics, reaction of (L)2Pt0 with CH4 and O2 is predicted to be more favorable by first addition of CH4 and then reaction of O2 with the resulting methyl-hydrido complex. However, oxidative addition for either the C-H bond of methane or of O2 to d10-L2M complexes is kinetically prohibitive. If barriers to oxidative addition to d10-L2M systems could be reduced, conversion of L2M(H)(CH3) to L2M(OOH)(CH3) via hydrogen atom abstract/radical rebound is calculated to be thermodynamically and kinetically feasible, particularly for NHC and Pd. As (NHC)2Pd also has a lower free energy to methane C-H oxidative addition than does (NHC)2Pt, the former combination would appear to be a promising starting point in the search for catalysts for partial hydrocarbon oxidation.  相似文献

Methane is an abundant and cheap feedstock to produce valuable chemicals. The catalytic reaction of methane conversion generally requires the participation of multiple molecules (such as two or three CH4 molecules, O2, CO2, etc.). Such complex process includes the cleavage of original chemical bonds, formation of new chemical bonds, and desorption of products. The gas phase study provides a unique arena to gain molecular-level insights into the detailed mechanisms of bond-breaking and bond-forming involved in complicated catalytic reactions. In this Review, we introduce the methane conversion catalyzed by gas phase ions containing metals and three topics will be discussed: (1) the direct coupling of methane molecules, (2) the conversion of CH4 with O2, O3 and N2O, and (3) the conversion of CH4 with CO2 and H2O. The obtained mechanistic aspects may provide new clues for rational design of better-performing catalysts for conversion of methane to value-added products.  相似文献

Oxidative coupling of methane for the production of ethylene was studied over Li-Ni/MgO catalyst in a fixed bed reactor. The influences of important reaction parameters such as temperature (T), methane/oxygen ratio (CH4/O2) in feed and space velocity of reactants (V/mcat) were studied over the conversion of methane, yields of ethylene and ethane and selectivity of ethylene formation. The reaction conditions were varied as 650 < T < 850oC, 0.83 x 10-6 < V/mcat < 2.92 x 10-6 m3/g s and 1 < CH4/O2 ratio < 8.  相似文献

The CH4 chlorination over Y zeolites was investigated to produce CH3Cl in a high yield. Three different catalytic systems based on Y zeolite were tested for enhancement of CH4 conversion and CH3Cl selectivity: (i) HY zeolites in H+-form having various Si/Al ratios, (ii) Pt/HY zeolites supporting Pt metal nanoparticles, (iii) Pt/NaY zeolites in Na+-form supporting Pt metal nanoparticles. The reaction was carried out using the gas mixture of CH4 and Cl2 with the respective flow rates of 15 and 10 mL min−1 at 300–350 °C using a fixed-bed reactor under a continuous gas flow condition (gas hourly space velocity = 3000 mL g−1 h−1). Above the reaction temperature of 300 °C, the CH4 chlorination is spontaneous even in the absence of catalyst, achieving 23.6% of CH4 conversion with 73.4% of CH3Cl selectivity. Under sufficient supplement of thermal energy, Cl2 molecules can be dissociated to two chlorine radicals, which triggered the C-H bond activation of CH4 molecule and thereby various chlorinated methane products (i.e., CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4) could be produced. When the catalysts were used under the same reaction condition, enhancement in the CH4 conversion was observed. The Pt-free HY zeolite series with varied Si/Al ratios gave around 27% of CH4 conversion, but there was a slight decrease in CH3Cl selectivity with about 64%. Despite the difference in acidity of HY zeolites having different Si/Al ratios, no prominent effect of the Si/Al ratios on the catalytic performance was observed. This suggests that the catalytic contribution of HY zeolites under the present reaction condition is not strong enough to overcome the spontaneous CH4 chlorination. When the Pt/HY zeolite catalysts were used, the CH4 conversion reached further up to 30% but the CH3Cl selectivity decreased to 60%. Such an enhancement of CH4 conversion could be attributed to the strong catalytic activity of HY and Pt/HY zeolite catalysts. However, both catalysts induced the radical cleavage of Cl2 more favorably, which ultimately decreased the CH3Cl selectivity. Such trade-off relationship between CH4 conversion and CH3Cl selectivity can be slightly broken by using Pt/NaY zeolite catalyst that is known to possess Frustrated Lewis Pairs (FLP) that are very useful for ionic cleavage of H2 to H+ and H. Similarly, in the present work, Pt/NaY(FLP) catalysts enhanced the CH4 conversion while keeping the CH3Cl selectivity as compared to the Pt/HY zeolite catalysts.  相似文献

Density functional calculations yield energy barriers for H abstraction by oxygen radical sites in Li‐doped MgO that are much smaller (12±6 kJ mol?1) than the barriers inferred from different experimental studies (80–160 kJ mol?1). This raises further doubts that the Li+O.? site is the active site as postulated by Lunsford. From temperature‐programmed oxidative coupling reactions of methane (OCM), we conclude that the same sites are responsible for the activation of CH4 on both Li‐doped MgO and pure MgO catalysts. For a MgO catalyst prepared by sol–gel synthesis, the activity proved to be very different in the initial phase of the OCM reaction and in the steady state. This was accompanied by substantial morphological changes and restructuring of the terminations as transmission electron microscopy revealed. Further calculations on cluster models showed that CH4 binds heterolytically on Mg2+O2? sites at steps and corners, and that the homolytic release of methyl radicals into the gas phase will happen only in the presence of O2.  相似文献

Single‐atom noble metals on a catalyst support tend to migrate and agglomerate into nanoparticles owing to high surface free energy at elevated temperatures. Temperature‐induced structure reconstruction of a support can firmly anchor single‐atom Pt species to adapt to a high‐temperature environment. We used Mn3O4 as a restructurable support to load single‐atom Pt and further turned into single‐atom Pt‐on‐Mn2O3 catalyst via high‐temperature treatment, which is extremely stable under calcination conditions of 800 °C for 5 days in humid air. High‐valence Pt4+ with more covalent bonds on Mn2O3 are essential for anchoring isolated Pt atoms by strong interaction. An optimized catalyst formed by moderate H2O2 etching exhibits the best performance and excellent thermal stability of single‐atom Pt in high‐temperature CH4 oxidation on account of more exposed Pt atoms and strong Pt‐Mn2O3 interaction.  相似文献

The catalytic oxidation of methane was studied over calcined and reduced Pt–Pd/γ-Al2O3 catalysts, in the presence and the absence of SO2 in the CH4–O2 reaction feed. The effect of sulfation (SO2 + O2 for 4 h at 500 °C) was also studied on the catalyst resistance to deactivation by sulfur poisoning. Sulfating the calcined Pt–Pd/γ-Al2O3 catalysts resulted in a strong deactivation for the CH4–O2 reaction. However, the catalytic activity of the reduced-sulfated Pt–Pd/γ-Al2O3 catalyst for CH4–O2 reaction remained rather unaffected in the presence and in the absence of SO2 in the reaction feed. XPS analysis revealed, over reduced-sulfated Pt–Pd/γ-Al2O3 catalysts, the presence of Pt(0) metallic surface species on which SO2 interactions may be faster related to Pd surface species. The presence of Pt(0) may be necessary to prevent the interactions between SO2 and Pd surface species. Long time catalytic tests showed that the activity of a reduced Pt–Pd/γ-Al2O3 catalysts for CH4–O2 reactions remained rather unaffected despite the presence of SO2 in the reaction feed.  相似文献

The first example of a metal oxide cluster anion, La6O10? that can activate methane under ambient conditions is reported. This reaction is facilitated by the oxygen‐centered radical (O??) and follows the hydrogen atom transfer mechanism. The La6O10? has a high vertical electron detachment energy (VDE=4.06 eV) and a high symmetry (C4v).  相似文献

One of the great challenges in the field of heterogeneous catalysis is the conversion of methane to more useful chemicals and fuels. A chemical of particular importance is ethene, which can be obtained by the oxidative coupling of methane. In this reaction CH4 is first oxidatively converted into C2H6, and then into C2H4. The fundamental aspects of the problem involve both a heterogeneous component, which includes the activation of CH4 on a metal oxide surface, and a homogeneous gas-phase component, which includes free-radical chemistry. Ethane is produced mainly by the coupling of the surface-generated CH radicals in the gas phase. The yield of C2H4 and C2H6 is limited by secondary reactions of CH radicals with the surface and by the further oxidation of C2H4, both on the catalyst surface and in the gas phase. Currently, the best catalysts provide 20% CH4 conversion with 80% combined C2H4 and C2H6 selectivity in a single pass through the reactor. Less is known about the nature of the active centers than about the reaction mechanism; however, reactive oxygen ions are apparently required for the activation of CH4 on certain catalysts. There is spectroscopic evidence for surface O? or O ions. In addition to the oxidative coupling of CH4, cross-coupling reactions, such as between methane and toluene to produce styrene, have been investigated. Many of the same catalysts are effective, and the cross-coupling reaction also appears to involve surface-generated radicals. Although a technological process has not been developed, extensive research has resulted in a reasonable understanding of the elementary reactions that occur during the oxidative coupling of methane.  相似文献

Atomic clusters are being actively studied for activation of methane, the most stable alkane molecule. While many cluster cations are very reactive with methane, the cluster anions are usually not very reactive, particularly for noble metal free anions. This study reports that the reactivity of molybdenum carbide cluster anions with methane can be much enhanced by adsorption of CO. The Mo2C2? is inert with CH4 while the CO addition product Mo2C3O? brings about dehydrogenation of CH4 under thermal collision conditions. The cluster structures and reactions are characterized by mass spectrometry, photoelectron spectroscopy, and quantum chemistry calculations, which demonstrate that the Mo2C3O? isomer with dissociated CO is reactive but the one with non‐dissociated CO is unreactive. The enhancement of cluster reactivity promoted by CO adsorption in this study is compared with those of reported systems of a few carbonyl complexes.  相似文献

In a combined experimental/computational investigation, the gas‐phase behavior of cationic [Pt(bipy)(CH3)((CH3)2S)]+ ( 1 ) (bipy=2,2′‐bipyridine) has been explored. Losses of CH4 and (CH3)2S from 1 result in the formation of a cyclometalated 2,2′‐bipyrid‐3‐yl species [Pt(bipy?H)]+ ( 2 ). As to the mechanisms of ligand evaporation, detailed labeling experiments complemented by DFT‐based computations reveal that the reaction follows the mechanistically intriguing “roll‐over” cyclometalation path in the course of which a hydrogen atom from the C(3)‐position is combined with the Pt‐bound methyl group to produce CH4. Activation of a C? H‐bond of the (CH3)2S ligand occurs as well, but is less favored (35 % versus 65 %) as compared to the C(3)? H bond activation of bipy. In addition, the thermal ion/molecule reactions of [Pt(bipy?H)]+ with (CH3)2S have been examined, and for the major pathway, that is, the dehydrogenative coupling of the two methyl groups to form C2H4, a mechanism is suggested that is compatible with the experimental and computational findings. A hallmark of the gas‐phase chemistry of [Pt(bipy?H)]+ with the incoming (CH3)2S ligand is the exchange of one (and only one) hydrogen atom of the bipy fragment with the C? H bonds of dimethylsulfide in a reversible “roll‐over” cyclometalation reaction. The PtII‐mediated conversion of (CH3)2S to C2H4 may serve as a model to obtain mechanistic insight in the dehydrosulfurization of sulfur‐containing hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Selective hydrogenation of CO2 into methanol is a key sustainable technology, where Cu/Al2O3 prepared by surface organometallic chemistry displays high activity towards CO2 hydrogenation compared to Cu/SiO2, yielding CH3OH, dimethyl ether (DME), and CO. CH3OH formation rate increases due to the metal–oxide interface and involves formate intermediates according to advanced spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Al2O3 promotes the subsequent conversion of CH3OH to DME, showing bifunctional catalysis, but also increases the rate of CO formation. The latter takes place 1) directly by activation of CO2 at the metal–oxide interface, and 2) indirectly by the conversion of formate surface species and CH3OH to methyl formate, which is further decomposed into CH3OH and CO. This study shows how Al2O3, a Lewis acidic and non‐reducible support, can promote CO2 hydrogenation by enabling multiple competitive reaction pathways on the oxide and metal–oxide interface.  相似文献

CeO2‐promoted Na‐Mn‐W/SiO2 catalyst has been studied for catalytic oxidation of methane in a micro‐stainless‐steel reactor at elevated pressure. The effect of operating conditions, such as GHSV, pressure and CH4/O2 ratio, has been investigated. 22.0% CH4 conversion with 73.8% C2‐C4 selectivity (C2/C3/C4 = 3.8/1.0/3.6) was obtained at 1003 K, 1.5 × 105 h?;1 GHSV and 1.0 MPa. The results show: Elevated pressure disadvantages the catalytic oxidation of methane to C2‐C4 hydrocarbons. Large amounts of C3 and C4 hydrocarbons are observed. The unfavorable effects of elevated pressure can be overcome by increasing GHSV; the reaction is strongly dependent on the operating conditions at elevated pressure, particularly dependent on GHSV and ratio of CH4/O2. Analyses by means of XRD, XPS and CO2‐TPD show that CO2 produced from the reaction makes a weakly poisoning capacity of the catalyst; information of changeful valence on Ce and Mn was detected over the near‐surface of the Ce‐Na‐W‐Mn/SiO2 catalyst; the existence of Ce3+/Ce4+ and Mn2+/Mn3+ ion couple supported that the reaction over the catalyst followed the Redeal‐Redox mechanism. Oxidative re‐coupling of C2H6 and CH4 in gas phase or over surface of catalyst produces C3 or C4 hydrocarbons.  相似文献
