Four D ‐π‐A dyes (D=donor, A=accpetor) based on a 3,4‐thienothiophene π‐bridge were synthesized for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The proaromatic building block 3,4‐thienothiophene is incorporated to stabilize dye excited‐state oxidation potentials. This lowering of the excited‐state energy levels allows for deeper absorption into the NIR region with relatively low molecular weight dyes. The influence of proaromatic functionality is probed through a computational analysis of optimized bond lengths and nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS) for both the ground‐ and excited‐ states. To avoid a necessary lowering of the TiO2 semiconductor conduction band (CB) to promote efficient dye–TiO2 electron injection, strong donor functionalities based on triaryl‐ and diarylamines are employed in the dye designs to raise both the ground‐ and excited‐state oxidation potentials of the dyes. Solubility, aggregation, and TiO2 surface protection are addressed by examining an ethylhexyl alkyl chain in comparison to a simple ethyl chain on the 3,4‐thienothiophene bridge. Power conversion efficiencies of up to 7.8 % are observed.  相似文献

In order to provide a direction in molecular design of catechol (Cat) dyes for type II dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), the dye‐to‐TiO2 charge‐transfer (DTCT) characteristics of Cat dyes with various substituents and their photovoltaic performance in DSSCs are investigated. The Cat dyes with electron‐donating or moderately electron‐withdrawing substituents exhibit a broad absorption band corresponding to DTCT upon binding to TiO2 films, whereas those with strongly electron‐withdrawing substituents exhibit weak DTCT. This study indicates that the introduction of a moderately electron‐withdrawing substituent on the Cat moiety leads to not only an increase in the DTCT efficiency, but also the retardation of back electron transfer. This results in favorable conditions for the type II electron‐injection pathway from the ground state of the Cat dye to the conduction band of the TiO2 electrode by the photoexcitation of DTCT bands.  相似文献

Azo dyes are one of the synthetic dyes that have been used in many textile industries. Azo dye and their intermediate products are toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic to aquatic life. Removal of azo dyes is one of the main challenges before releasing the wastes discharged by textile industries. Photocatalytic degradation of azo dyes by nanoparticles is one of the environment‐friendly methods used for the removal of dyes from textile effluents. Therefore, this study focused on degradation of azo dye, Direct Red 264. Photocatalytic degradation of DR 264 azo dye was investigated using CdS and Ag/CdS nanoparticles immobilized on a cement bed in a continuous‐flow photoreactor under UV‐C exposure. The effect of the parameters of type and mass of catalyst, temperature, flow rate, dye concentration, and light intensity were evaluated for azo dye removal. Under optimal conditions, photocatalytic degradation of DR 264 azo dye using Ag/CdS nanoparticles immobilized on a cement bed in a continuous‐flow photoreactor obtained an efficiency of 99.99%. A developed kinetic model was proposed based on the intrinsic elementary reactions. The proposed model is in a good agreement with the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) equation. The pseudo–steady‐state approximation has considered for the concentration of hydroxyl radicals associated with the L–H model under certain conditions and explains consistently the dependence of the apparent kinetic parameter, kobs (the reaction rate constant), and KR (the adsorption equilibrium constant) with the light intensity. Based on the model, kobs for Ag/CdS was greater than the CdS nanoparticles.  相似文献

New hemicyanine dyes ( CM101 , CM102 , CM103 , and CM104 ) in which tetrahydroquinoline derivatives are used as electron donors and N‐(carboxymethyl)‐pyridinium is used as an electron acceptor and anchoring group were designed and synthesized for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Compared with corresponding dyes that have cyanoacetic acid as the acceptor, N‐(carboxymethyl)‐pyridinium has a stronger electron‐withdrawing ability, which causes the absorption maximum of dyes to be redshifted. The photovoltaic performance of the DSSCs based on dyes CM101 – CM104 markedly depends on the molecular structures of the dyes in terms of the n‐hexyl chains and methoxyl. The device sensitized by dye CM104 achieved the best conversion efficiency of 7.0 % (Jsc=13.4 mA cm?2, Voc=704 mV, FF=74.8 %) under AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW cm?2). In contrast, the device sensitized by reference dye CMR104 with the same donor but the cyanoacetic acid as the acceptor gave an efficiency of 3.4 % (Jsc=6.2 mA cm?2, Voc=730 mV, FF=74.8 %). Under the same conditions, the cell fabricated with N719 sensitized porous TiO2 exhibited an efficiency of 7.9 % (Jsc=15.4 mA cm?2, Voc=723 mV, FF=72.3 %). The dyes CM101 – CM104 show a broader spectral response compared with the reference dyes CMR101 – CMR104 and have high IPCE exceeding 90 % from 450 to 580 nm. Considering the reflection of sunlight, the photoelectric conversion efficiency could be almost 100 % during this region.  相似文献

Development of triaryamine‐based nonmetallic dye sensitizers is a hot topic in the solar cell research. A series of triaryamine‐based dyes WS1 – WS7 were designed with W1 as the prototype. Density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent‐DFT calculations were used to investigate the effects of the attached donor D on the absorption spectra and electronic properties of the dyes. The light‐harvesting efficiency (LHE), hole injection force (ΔGinj), dye regeneration force (ΔGreg), and charge recombination force (ΔGCR) for all the dyes were predicted. The insertion of D not only results in a red shift in the absorption spectra for all dyes but also achieves a broader absorption for visible light. Compared with that of the prototype, the absorption peak of the dye WS7 has a red shift of 95 nm and an oscillator strength increase of 29%. The absorption peak of WS7 is wider and stronger, and the absorption range extends to 900 nm. The LHE and ΔGreg values of WS7 are 0.991 and ?1.49 eV, respectively. On overall evaluation, WS7 is a promising candidate of a p‐type dye sensitizer with good light absorption and dye regeneration efficiency.  相似文献

This article describes a series of nine complexes of boron difluoride with 2′‐hydroxychacone derivatives. These dyes were synthesized very simply and exhibited intense NIR emission in the solid state. Complexation with boron was shown to impart very strong donor–acceptor character into the excited state of these dyes, which further shifted their emission towards the NIR region (up to 855 nm for dye 5 b , which contained the strongly donating triphenylamine group). Strikingly, these optical features were obtained for crystalline solids, which are characterized by high molecular order and tight packing, two features that are conventionally believed to be detrimental to luminescence in organic crystals. Remarkably, the emission of light from the π‐stacked molecules did not occur at the expense of the emission quantum yield. Indeed, in the case of pyrene‐containing dye 4 , for example, a fluorescence quantum yield of about 15 % with a fluorescence emission maximum at 755 nm were obtained in the solid state. Moreover, dye 3 a and acetonaphthone‐based compounds 1 b , 2 b , and 3 b showed no evidence of degradation as solutions in CH2Cl2 that contained EtOH. In particular, solutions of brightly fluorescent compound 3 a (brightness: ε×Φf=45 000 M ?1 cm?1) could be stored for long periods without any detectable changes in its optical properties. All together, these new dyes possess a set of very interesting properties that make them promising solid‐state NIR fluorophores for applications in materials science.  相似文献

To design efficient dyes for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), using a Zn‐coordinated phthalocyanine (TT7) as the prototype, a series of phthalocyanine dyes (Pcs) with different metal ions and peripheral/axial groups have been investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT (TDDFT) methods. Computational results show that the iodinated Al‐based dye with a peripheral amino group (Al‐I‐NH2‐Pc) exhibits the largest redshift in the maximum absorbance (λmax). In addition, Al‐based dyes have appropriate energy‐level arrangements of frontier orbitals to keep excellent balance between electron injection and regeneration of oxidized dyes. Further, it has been found that the intermolecular π‐staking interaction in Al‐I‐Pc molecules is weaker than the other metal‐based Pcs, which may effectively reduce dye aggregation on the semi‐conductor surface. All these results suggest iodinated Al‐based Pcs (Al‐I‐Pcs) to be potentially promising sensitizers in DSSCs.  相似文献

Concerning the importance of the identification and characterization of food dyes in food science, this work presents a screening method using voltammetry of immobilized microparticles for identification in solid state of sunset yellow, tartrazine yellow, brilliant blue, indigotine, and erythrosine in food matrices. Different aqueous supporting electrolyte were investigated for screening purpose and NaCl 0.1 mol L−1 showed to be suitable for evaluating dyes in solid state. By using square wave voltammetry as detection mode was possible to establish qualitative diagnostic criteria for identification of dyes in commercials powder of food dyes samples using both anodic and cathodic scan. Moreover, based on the solid-state electrochemistry profile and due to the lack of information about the electrochemical behavior of these compounds in solid state, some oxi/reduction pathways could be elucidated, and special attention was given to the case of sunset yellow dye.

The efficiency of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) can be enhanced with achieving better planarity of metal‐free organic dye molecules and thinning of their aggregation on the semiconductor surface. We report that the subtle noncovalent NS interaction between the substituted phosphazene group and thiophene spacer unit in dye molecule which induces the desired planarity and avoid aggregation of such molecules on the TiO2 surface using DFT calculations. DFT results show that phosphazene group increases the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax), driving force for electrons injection (ΔGinjection), singlet excited state lifetime (τ), dipole moments (μnormal), and number of electrons transferred from dye to TiO2 surface (Δq), which are known to augment the efficiency of DSSCs. Further, the lower ΔGregeneration value of phosphazene containing dyes (e.g., –.37 eV, dye 2 ) than the reported dyes (e.g., –.81 eV, dye 1 ) indicate the faster electron injection rate from the former dye to the semiconductor TiO2. The role of phosphazene group to prevent the aggregation of dye molecules on the TiO2 anatase surface was also examined with GGA‐PBE/DNP level of theory. The calculated results suggest that the dye molecules on 1 ‐(TiO2)38 and 2 ‐(TiO2)38 anatase clusters avoids the aggregation due to the steric congestion induced by phosphazene group. This work reports to accomplish dual properties with subtle noncovalent interactions in dye molecules to augment the efficiency in DSSCs.  相似文献

When ionic dyes are close together, the internal Coulomb interaction may affect their photophysics and the energy-transfer efficiency. To explore this, we have prepared triangular architectures of three rhodamines connected to a central triethynylbenzene unit (1,3,5-tris(buta-1,3-diyn-1-yl)benzene) based on acetylenic coupling reactions and measured fluorescence spectra of the isolated, triply charged ions in vacuo. We find from comparisons with previously reported monomer and dimer spectra that while polarization of the π-system causes redshifted emission, the separation between the rhodamines is too large for a Stark shift. This picture is supported by electrostatic calculations on model systems composed of three linear and polarizable ionic dyes in D3h configuration: The electric field that each dye experiences from the other two is too small to induce a dipole moment, both in the ground and the excited state. In the case of heterotrimers that contain either two rhodamine 575 (R575) and one R640 or one R575 and two R640, emission is almost purely from R640 although the polarization of the π-system expectedly diminishes the dipole-dipole interaction.  相似文献

Recent studies on water‐splitting photoelectrochemical cells (PECs) have demonstrated the intriguing possibility of controlling the spin state in this chemical reaction to form H2 and O2 by exploiting the chirality of organic π‐conjugated supramolecular polymers. Although this fascinating phenomenon has been disclosed, the chiral supramolecular materials reported thus far are not optimized for acting as efficient photosensitizer for dye‐sensitized PECs. In this work we report on the design, synthesis, and characterization of chiral supramolecular aggregates based on C3‐symmetric triphenylamine‐based dyes that are able to both absorb visible light and control the spin state of the process. Variable temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements reveal the assembly process of the dyes and confirm the formation of chiral aggregates, both in solution as well as on solid supports. Photoelectrochemical measurements on TiO2‐based anodes validate the advantage of using chiral supramolecular aggregates as photosensitizer displaying higher photocurrent compared to achiral analogues. Moreover, fluorimetric tests for the quantification of the hydrogen peroxide produced, confirm the possibility of controlling the spin of the reaction exerting spin‐selection with chiral supramolecular polymers. These results represent a further step towards the next‐generation of organic‐based water‐splitting solar cells.  相似文献

The photophysical behavior of two xanthene dyes, Eosin Y and Phloxine B, included in microcrystalline cellulose particles is studied in a wide concentration range, with emphasis on the effect of dye concentration on fluorescence and triplet quantum yields. Absolute fluorescence quantum yields in the solid‐state were determined by means of diffuse reflectance and steady‐state fluorescence measurements, whereas absolute triplet quantum yields were obtained by laser‐induced optoacoustic spectroscopy and their dependence on dye concentration was confirmed by diffuse reflectance laser flash photolysis and time‐resolved phosphorescence measurements. When both quantum yields are corrected for reabsorption and reemission of radiation, Φ F values decrease strongly on increasing dye concentration, while a less pronounced decay is observed for Φ T. Fluorescence concentration quenching is attributed to the formation of dye aggregates or virtual traps resulting from molecular crowding. Dimeric traps are however able to generate triplet states. A mechanism based on the intermediacy of charge‐transfer states is proposed and discussed. Calculation of parameters for photoinduced electron transfer between dye molecules within the traps evidences the feasibility of the proposed mechanism. Results demonstrate that photoactive energy traps, capable of yielding dye triplet states, can be formed even in highly‐concentrated systems with random dye distributions.  相似文献

In this study, novel mono- and dipyridylvinyl boron dipyrromethene dyes are prepared to compare their photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) activities against Staphylococcus aureus to the corresponding core dyes. Pyridylvinyl substitution at the 3- or 3,5-positions of a meso-4-bromophenylBODIPY core dye via a Knoevenagel reaction with an aromatic 2-bromopyridinecarboxaldehyde shifts the major BODIPY spectral band to longer wavelength. The extended π-conjugation red shifts the main spectral band into the 602–618 nm region in CHCl3, THF, ethanol and DMSO after monopyridylvinyl substitution and to 685–704 nm after dipyridylvinyl substitution. An enhancement of the population of the T1 state through the incorporation of iodine atoms at the 2,6-positions results in moderately high singlet oxygen quantum yields in DMSO. The π-extended dyes were found to have significantly lower PACT activities than the diiodinated core dye.  相似文献

Benzimidazole‐branched bi‐anchoring organic dyes that contained triphenylamine/phenothiazine donors, 2‐cyanoacrylic acid acceptors, and various π linkers were synthesized and examined as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells. The structure–activity relationships in these dyes were systematically investigated by using absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and density functional theory calculations. The wavelength of the absorption peak was more‐heavily influenced by the nature of the π linker than by the nature of the donor. For a given donor, the absorption maximum (λmax) was red‐shifted on changing the π linker from phenyl to 2,2′‐bithiophene, whilst the dyes that contained triphenylamine units displayed higher molar extinction coefficients (?) than their analogous phenothiazine‐based triphenylamine dyes, which led to good light‐harvesting properties in the triphenylamine‐based dyes. Electrochemical data for the dyes indicated that the triphenylamine‐based dyes possessed relatively low‐lying HOMOs, which could be beneficial for suppressing back electron transfer from the conduction band of TiO2 to the oxidized dyes, owing to facile regeneration of the oxidized dye by the electrolyte. The best performance in the DSSCs was observed for a dye that possessed a triphenylamine donor and 2,2′‐bithiophene π linkers. Electron impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that the use of triphenylamine as the donor and phenyl or 2,2′‐bithiophene as the π linkers was beneficial for disrupting the dark current and charge‐recombination kinetics, which led to a long electron lifetime of the injected electrons in the conduction band of TiO2.  相似文献

Structurally diverse near-infrared (NIR) absorbing polymethine dyes were prepared and their fluorescence lifetimes (FLT) were evaluated in relation to their structural features. Comparative FLT analysis based on the modification of methine chain length and heterocyclic system showed that indolium or benzo[e]indolium heptamethine dyes exhibited longer FLT than the benzo[c,d]indolium trimethine dye. Modification of heterocyclic system alone with an intact chain length showed that indolium-based heptamethine dyes showed approximately 30% longer FLT than the benzo[e]indolium-based dyes. In general, the FLT of polymethine dyes increased from polar to non-polar solvents. In addition, correlation study between the theoretical and the experimental FLT for indocyanine green (ICG) suggests that the lack of structural rigidity for these cyanine dyes is primarily responsible for the loss of the excited state energy via non-radiative pathway.  相似文献

A series of metal‐free organic dyes with electron‐rich (D) and electron‐deficient units (A) as π linkers have been studied theoretically by means of density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT calculations to explore the effects of π spacers on the optical and electronic properties of triphenylamine dyes. The results show that Dye 1 with a structure of D‐A‐A‐A is superior to the typical C218 dye in various key aspects, including the maximum absorption (λmax=511 nm), the charge‐transfer characteristics (Dq/t is 5.49 Å/0.818 e?/4.41 Å), the driving force for charge‐carrier injection (ΔGinject=1.35 eV)/dye regeneration (ΔGregen=0.27 eV), and the lifetime of the first excited state (τ=3.1 ns). It is thus proposed to be a promising candidate in dye‐sensitized solar cell applications.  相似文献

Three new ‘push-pull’ A3B Zn(II)porphyrin dyes having meso-pyrenyl, carbazolyl and phenothiazine as electron donors ( A ) and phenylcarboxylic acid as acceptor/anchor ( B ) were synthesized and utilized for DSSC application. The spectral and electrochemical redox properties of these new dyes were studied and compared with trans-A2BC Zn(II) porphyrin dyes under similar experimental conditions. Red-shifted, broadened absorption peaks, lower fluorescence quantum yields, and shortened lifetimes were observed for the A3B dyes as compared to zinc tetraphenylporphyrin control, ZnTPP. DFT optimized structures suggested effective charge separation related to enhanced charge injection efficiency. Driving force for electron injection (ΔGinj) and dye regeneration (ΔGreg) calculated from the spectral and electrochemical studies predicted facile electron injection from excited dye into semiconductor TiO2 in the constructed solar cells. Phenothiazine appended dye ( KP - TriPTZ - Zn ) showed the highest η value of 7.3 % for PCE with greater Jsc and Voc values due to its better light harvesting ability and reduced dye aggregation as compared to other dyes. Our studies demonstrate that the dyes having multiple electron-donating groups exhibit higher photon-to-current conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Quantum-chemical calculations in the AM1 approximation were undertaken for the optimized geometry of the cations of polymethine dyes [R+—(CH=CH) n —CH=R], where R represents phenyl substituents or pyridinium, pyrylium, and thiopyrylium groups and n = 1-6, in the ground state and for the electron density distribution in the Frank – Condon excited state. It was found that excitation of the molecule by a light quantum leads to a decrease in the length of the charge wave (soliton). It was shown that the length of the soliton depends on the electron-donating character of the terminal groups R and on the length of the conjugated chain, while shortening of the soliton in the thiopyrylocyanines leads to disruption of its symmetry.  相似文献

A boron difluoride formazanate dye that exhibits near‐infrared photoluminescence and electrochemiluminescence was produced via a straightforward two‐step synthesis. Examination of its solid‐state structure suggested that the N‐aryl substituents have significant quinoidal character, which narrows the S1–S0 energy gap and leads to the unique optoelectronic properties observed. Cyclic voltammetry studies revealed two oxidation waves and two reduction waves that were electrochemically reversible. Electrochemiluminescence properties were examined in the presence of tri‐n‐propylamine, leading to maximum intensity at 910 nm, at least 85 nm (1132 cm?1) red‐shifted compared to all other organic dyes. This work sets the stage for the development of future generations of dyes for emerging applications, including single‐cell imaging, that require near‐infrared photoluminescence and electrochemiluminescence.  相似文献

This one‐pot, four‐component coupling approach (Suzuki–Miyaura coupling/C?H direct arylation/Knoevenagel condensation) was developed for the rapid synthesis of thiophene‐based organic dyes for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Seven thiophene‐based, organic dyes of various donor structures with/without the use of a 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) moiety were successfully synthesized in good yields based on a readily available thiophene boronic acid pinacol ester scaffold (one‐pot, 3‐step, 35–61 %). Evaluation of the photovoltaic properties of the solar cells that were prepared using the synthesized dyes revealed that the introduction of an EDOT structure beside a cyanoacrylic acid moiety improved the short‐circuit current (Jsc) while decreasing the fill factor (FF). The donor structure significantly influenced the open‐circuit voltage (Voc), the FF, and the power conversion efficiency (PCE). The use of a n‐hexyloxyphenyl amine donor, and our originally developed, rigid, and nonplanar donor, both promoted good cell performance (η=5.2–5.6 %).  相似文献
