In this paper, the electro-magnetic control of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a circular cylinder is investigated numerically based on the stream function–vorticity equations in the exponential–polar coordinates attached on the moving cylinder for Re=150. The effects of the instantaneous wake geometries and the corresponding cylinder motion on the hydrodynamic forces for one entire period of vortex shedding are discussed using a drag–lift phase diagram. The drag–lift diagram is composed of the upper and lower closed curves due to the contributions of the vortex shedding but is magnified, translated and turned under the action of the cylinder motion. The Lorentz force for controlling the vibration cylinder is classified into the field Lorentz force and the wall Lorentz force. The symmetric field Lorentz force will symmetrize the flow passing over the cylinder and decreases the lift oscillation, which, in turn, suppresses the VIV, whereas the wall Lorentz force has no effect on the lift. The cylinder vibration increases as the work performed by the lift dominates the energy transfer. Otherwise, the cylinder vibration decreases. If the net transferred energy per motion is equal to zero, the cylinder will vibrate steadily or be fixed.  相似文献

Numerical simulations and experimental research are both carried out to investigate the controlled effect of spanwise oscillating Lorentz force on a turbulent channel flow. The variations of the streaks and the skin friction drag are obtained through the PIV system and the drag measurement system, respectively. The flow field in the near-wall region is shown through direct numerical simulations utilizing spectral method. The experimental results are consistent with the numerical simulation results qualitatively, and both the results indicate that the streaks are tilted into the spanwise direction and the drag reduction utilizing spanwise oscillating Lorentz forces can be realized. The numerical simulation results reveal more detail of the drag reduction mechanism which can be explained, since the spanwise vorticity generated from the interaction between the induced Stokes layer and intrinsic turbulent flow in the near-wall region can make the longitudinal vortices tilt and oscillate, and leads to turbulence suppression and drag reduction.  相似文献

A formulation of the skin-friction drag related to the Reynolds shear stress in a turbulent channel flow is derived. A direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the turbulent control is performed by imposing the spatially oscillating spanwise Lorentz force. Under the action of the Lorentz force with several proper control parameters, only the periodically well-organized streamwise vortices are finally observed in the near-wall region. The Reynolds shear stress decreases dramatically, especially in the near-wall area, resulting in a drag reduction.  相似文献

An investigation of the effect of the local electromagnetic body force on the flow behavior around a circular cylinder is conducted. The electromagnetic force is applied locally on the cylinder surface in the range of 70–130° from the stagnation point along the cylinder circumference in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The numerical results predict that the Lorentz force applied in the circumferential direction on the cylinder moves the separation point rearward, and reduces the drag. To validate the numerical results, an experiment is conducted with a circular cylinder of 5 cm diameter. The electrodes and permanent magnets are flush mounted on the cylinder in such a way that the Lorentz force is generated in the circumferential direction. Flow visualization with polystyrene particles and direct drag measurement using strain gages are made. The fluid used is natural sea water of electric conductivity of about 4 (Ω m)-1. Induction effect can be neglected in the present investigation due to the low flow speed and the Lorentz force is proportional to E×B where E is an applied electric field and B is a magnetic field. The Okubo-Weiss function is correlated with the fluid particle compression, deformation and vorticity, which provides a simple way to characterize different regions of a flow-field. In the present paper, it shows mathematically that the global integration of Okubo-Weiss function is always equal to zero for a two dimensional incompressible flow with no-slip boundaries. To validate the conclusion, a flow passing a circular cylinder con- trolled by the electromagnetic force is calculated numerically as an example. Distributions of global enstrophy, total squared strain and Okubo-Weiss function in the controlled flow field are discussed. The influence of Lorentz force on the distribution is analyzed.  相似文献

A Lorentz force flowmeter is a noncontact electromagnetic flow-measuring device based on exposing a flowing electrically conducting liquid to a magnetic field and measuring the force acting on the magnet system. The measured Lorentz force is proportional to the flow rate via a calibration coefficient which depends on the velocity distribution and magnetic field in liquid. In this paper, the influence of different velocity profiles on the calibration coefficient is investigated by using numerical simulations. The Lorentz forces are computed for laminar flows in closed and open rectangular channels, and the results are compared with the simplified case of a solid conductor moving at a constant velocity. The numerical computations demonstrate that calibration coefficients for solid bodies are always higher than for liquid metals. Moreover, it can be found that for some parameters the solid-body calibration coefficient is almost twice as high as for a liquid metal. These differences are explained by analyzing the patterns of the induced eddy currents and the spatial distributions of the Lorentz force density. The result provides a first step for evaluating the influence of the laminar velocity profiles on the calibration function of a Lorentz force flowmeter.  相似文献

We investigate numerically the electromagnetic control of seawater flows over an infinitely long circular cylinder. Stripes of electrodes and magnets, wrapped around the cylinder surface, produce a tangential body force (Lorentz force) that stabilizes the flow. This mechanism delays flow separation, reduces drag and lift, and finally suppresses the von Kármán vortex street. Results from two-dimensional simulations of the Navier–Stokes equations in a range 10<Re<300 and Lorentz force calculations are presented. Emphasis is placed on the disclosure of physical phenomena as well as a quantitative detection of the flow field and forces. It is shown that the drag strongly depends on the geometry of the electromagnetic actuator and on its location at the cylinder surface. The effect of flow control increases with larger Reynolds numbers, since the boundary layer thickness and the penetration depth of the Lorentz force are closely connected.  相似文献

电磁力可有效对流体流动进行控制,增升减阻,抑制流动分离,制约其推广应用的瓶颈为控制效率问题.为提高其控制效率,基于翼型绕流的电磁力控制,对电磁力增升减阻的控制效率问题进行数值研究. 根据能量守恒定律,推导电磁力控制能耗的比,基于升力和阻力计算节省能量. 定义电磁力的控制效率为能量节省与电磁力控制所需能耗的比值,研究不同工况下电磁力增升减阻的控制效率. 发现在控制开始阶段,电磁力能量主要消耗在增加边界层流体的动能上,电磁力控制效率非常低,但电磁力控制效率会随着电磁力工作时间的增长而增加;电磁力控制效率随着来流速度的增加呈指数下降;通过增加电磁力激活板的输入能量可增强电磁力的控制效果,但无法明显增加其控制效率.   相似文献

A charged spacecraft is subject to the Lorentz force when it orbits a central body with a magnetic field. The induced Lorentz force provides a new mean of propellantless electromagnetic propulsion for orbital control. Modeling the Earth magnetic field as a tilted dipole that co-rotates with the Earth, this paper develops a nonlinear dynamical model that describes the relative motion of the Lorentz spacecraft about an arbitrary reference orbit. Based on the proposed dynamical model, feasibility of Lorentz-propelled rendezvous with no restrictions on the initial states is investigated. The rendezvous problem is then formulated as an optimal control problem, and solved with the Gauss pseudospectral method (GPM). Numerical simulations substantiate the validity of proposed model and method, and results show that the propellantless rendezvous is achieved at both fixed and free final time.  相似文献

在雷诺数Re=200的情况,利用Maxwell方程直接数值计算表面包覆电极与磁极圆柱体产生的电磁力分布,将其加入到动量方程中,在各种电磁力作用参数和电磁极宽度的组合下,对表面覆盖电磁极圆柱体在弱电解质中的绕流场结构及其升阻力特性进行了数值模拟与分析.结果表明,当电磁极宽度较小时,圆柱体绕流场的分离点越容易接近后驻点,而电磁力对总阻力的影响并不明显,但对压差和摩擦阻力均有明显影响.当电磁极宽度较大时,圆柱体尾部区域越容易产生射流现象,而且总阻力随电磁力作用参数和电磁极宽度增大而减小.在电磁力尚不足以完全抑制周期性涡脱落的情况下,升力幅值随电磁力作用参数增大而减小,但随电磁极宽度则先减小后略有增加,升力脉动频率则均随电磁力作用参数和电磁极宽度增大而增加.研究表明,电磁力可以有效地改善圆柱体绕流场结构,达到减小圆柱体阻力并抑制其脉动升力之目的,因此是圆柱型结构的一种有效流动控制手段.  相似文献

In this paper the effects of hydrophobic wall on skin-friction drag in the channel flow are investigated through large eddy simulation on the basis of weaklycompressible flow equations with the MacCormack's scheme on collocated mesh in the FVM framework. The slip length model is adopted to describe the behavior of the slip velocities in the streamwise and spanwise directions at the interface between the hydrophobic wall and turbulent channel flow. Simulation results are presented by analyzing flow behaviors over hydrophobic wall with the Smagorinky subgrid-scale model and a dynamic model on computational meshes of different resolutions. Comparison and analysis are made on the distributions of timeaveraged velocity, velocity fluctuations, Reynolds stress as well as the skin-friction drag. Excellent agreement between the present study and previous results demonstrates the accuracy of the simple classical second-order scheme in representing turbulent vertox near hydrophobic wall. In addition, the relation of drag reduction efficiency versus time-averaged slip velocity is established. It is also foundthat the decrease of velocity gradient in the close wall region is responsible for the drag reduction. Considering its advantages of high calculation precision and efficiency, the present method has good prospect in its application to practical projects.  相似文献

In this paper, Lorentz forces are proved to be able to suppress separation in flows over hydrofoils. Furthermore, a differential equation of pressure distributions on the hydrofoil surface is derived, from which it is found that BVF (boundary vortex flux) σ is a suitable criterion for describing the lift coefficient variations during the electromagnetic control process. According to our numerical results, the periodic variations of lift for a hydrofoil at an attack angle of 17 ° are analyzed and its inherent mechanism is discussed in detail with the concept of BVE On the other hand, the effects of Lorentz force on the hydrofoil's lift are investigated both experimentally and numerically for different magnitudes and locations.  相似文献

A theoretical study is presented for the two-dimensional creeping flow caused by a long circular cylindrical particle translating and rotating in a viscous fluid near a large plane wall parallel to its axis. The fluid is allowed to slip at the surface of the particle. The Stokes equations for the fluid velocity field are solved in the quasi-steady limit using cylindrical bipolar coordinates. Semi-analytical solutions for the drag force and torque acting on the particle by the fluid are obtained for various values of the slip coefficient associated with the particle surface and of the relative separation distance between the particle and the wall. The results indicate that the translation and rotation of the confined cylinder are not coupled with each other. For the motion of a no-slip cylinder near a plane wall, our hydrodynamic drag force and torque results reduce to the closed-form solutions available in the literature. The boundary-corrected drag force and torque acting on the particle decrease with an increase in the slip coefficient for an otherwise specified condition. The plane wall exerts the greatest drag on the particle when its migration occurs normal to it, and the least in the case of motion parallel to it. The enhancement in the hydrodynamic drag force and torque on a translating and rotating particle caused by a nearby plane wall is much more significant for a cylinder than for a sphere.  相似文献

实验与数值模拟表明,利用电介质溶液中圆柱体侧表面附近分布的电磁场产生电磁力可有效改变圆柱流体边界层,控制圆柱绕流.本文对圆柱绕流电磁控制过程中的主要影响因素进行了实验研究,电磁包覆在圆柱表面后部时,其控制效果与全部包覆相当,而包覆在其它位置时,消涡效果较差;电磁极板窄的圆柱绕流控制效果较极板宽的消涡与减阻效果好.另外,电磁作用参数N愈大,消涡减阻的效果愈好.  相似文献

利用直接数值模拟研究了圆管湍流减阻的电磁力控制问题. 在圆管表面布置一层交替排 列的条形电极和磁极,施加电压后在导电的流体介质中产生周向随时间变化的电磁力,通过 改变电磁力的大小和变化周期等参数可以使阻力大幅减少. 研究减阻率和控制参数的 关系,并研究了电磁力减阻的机理. 电磁力控制存在最优周期,阻力最大降 低24.2{\%}; 电磁力控制抑制了流向和法向速度的脉动,而周向脉动速度随振荡周 期的增大而增大.  相似文献

In this paper, the control of turbulent channel flow by space-dependent electromagnetic force and the mechanism of drag reduction are investigated with the direct numerical simulation(DNS) methods for different Reynolds numbers. A formulation is derived to express the relation between the drag and the Reynolds shear stress. With the application of optimal electromagnetic force, the in-depth relations among characteristic structures in the flow field, mean Reynolds shear stress, and the effect of drag reduction for different Reynolds numbers are discussed. The results indicate that the maximum drag reductions can be obtained with an optimal combination of parameters for each case of different Reynolds numbers. The regular quasi-streamwise vortex structures, which appear in the flow field, have the same period with that of the electromagnetic force.These structures suppress the random velocity fluctuations, which leads to the absolute value of mean Reynolds shear stress decreasing and the distribution of that moving away from the wall. Moreover, the wave number of optimal electromagnetic force increases,and the scale of the regular quasi-streamwise vortex structures decreases as the Reynolds number increases. Therefore, the rate of drag reduction decreases with the increase in the Reynolds number since the scale of the regular quasi-streamwise vortex structures decreases.  相似文献

A numerical study on the laminar vortex shedding and wake flow due to a porous‐wrapped solid circular cylinder has been made in this paper. The cylinder is horizontally placed, and is subjected to a uniform cross flow. The aim is to control the vortex shedding and drag force through a thin porous wrapper around a solid cylinder. The flow field is investigated for a wide range of Reynolds number in the laminar regime. The flow in the porous zone is governed by the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer extended model and the Navier–Stokes equations in the fluid region. A control volume approach is adopted for computation of the governing equations along with a second‐order upwind scheme, which is used to discretize the convective terms inside the fluid region. The inclusion of a thin porous wrapper produces a significant reduction in drag and damps the oscillation compared with a solid cylinder. Dependence of Strouhal number and drag coefficient on porous layer thickness at different Reynolds number is analyzed. An analysis of the energy budget for the general case of a body translating in a stationary fluid under the action of an external force is used to define a power loss coefficient. This universal definition of power loss coefficient gives a measure of the energy lost in the wake of the translating body and, in general, is applicable to a variety of flow configurations including active drag reduction, self-propulsion and thrust generation. The utility of the power loss coefficient is demonstrated on a model bluff body flow problem concerning a two-dimensional elliptical cylinder in a uniform cross-flow. The upper and lower boundaries of the elliptic cylinder undergo continuous motion due to a prescribed reflectionally symmetric constant tangential surface velocity. It is shown that a decrease in drag resulting from an increase in the strength of tangential surface velocity leads to an initial reduction and eventual rise in the power loss coefficient. A maximum in energetic efficiency is attained for a drag reducing tangential surface velocity which minimizes the power loss coefficient. The effect of the tangential surface velocity on drag reduction and self-propulsion of both bluff and streamlined bodies is explored through a variation in the thickness ratio (ratio of the minor and major axes) of the elliptical cylinders.  相似文献

利用作用于流体边界层上的电磁体积力改变流体边界层的结构,研究电磁力对流场的控制 作用效果. 电极与磁极交替分布的电磁场激活板包覆在圆柱体表面置于流动的电解质溶液 中,产生的电磁力沿圆柱体表面分布,可以改变流体边界层的结构,从而实现对流场的控制. 用电磁屏蔽和时域控制的方法调整电磁力的时空分布参数,圆柱绕流分离点可以在前驻点和 后驻点之间变动,产生不同的控制效果. 流体边界层上的电磁力能连续控制圆柱绕流、尾流 涡街的形态. 正向电磁力具有较好的消涡、减震和减阻控制效应. 反向电磁力具有明显的增 涡控制效应,具有较强的制动控制效应,此时圆柱体表面涡量分布的对称性和稳定性被破坏.  相似文献
