A technique of the state space approach and the inversion of the Laplace transform method are applied to dimensionless equations of an unsteady one-dimensional boundary-layer flow due to heat and mass transfer through a porous medium saturated with a viscoelastic fluid bounded by an infinite vertical plate in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is described. Complete analytical solutions for the temperature, concentration, velocity, and induced magnetic and electric fields are presented. The inversion of the Laplace transforms is carried out by using a numerical approach. The proposed method is used to solve two problems: boundary-layer flow in a viscoelastic fluid near a vertical wall subjected to the initial conditions of a stepwise temperature and concentration and viscoelastic fluid flow between two vertical walls. The solutions are found to be dependent on the governing parameters including the Prandtl number, the Schmidt number, the Grashof number, reaction rate coefficient, viscoelastic parameter, and permeability of the porous medium. Effects of these major parameters on the transport behavior are investigated methodically, and typical results are illustrated to reveal the tendency of the solutions. Representative results are presented for the velocity, temperature, concentration, and induced magnetic and electric field distributions, as well as the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

A theoretical study is presented of peristaltic hydrodynamics of an aqueous electrolytic non-Newtonian Jeffrey bio-rheological fluid through an asymmetric microchannel under an applied axial electric field. An analytical approach is adopted to obtain the closed form solution for velocity, volumetric flow, pressure difference and stream function. The analysis is also restricted under the low Reynolds number assumption (Stokes flow) and lubrication theory approximations (large wavelength). Small ionic Peclét number and Debye–Hückel linearization (i.e. wall zeta potential ≤ 25 mV) are also considered to simplify the Nernst–Planck and Poisson–Boltzmann equations. Streamline plots are also presented for the different electro-osmotic parameter, varying magnitudes of the electric field (both aiding and opposing cases) and for different values of the ratio of relaxation to retardation time parameter. Comparisons are also included between the Newtonian and general non-Newtonian Jeffrey fluid cases. The results presented here may be of fundamental interest towards designing lab-on-a-chip devices for flow mixing, cell manipulation, micro-scale pumps etc. Trapping is shown to be more sensitive to an electric field (aiding, opposing and neutral) rather than the electro-osmotic parameter and viscoelastic relaxation to retardation ratio parameter. The results may also help towards the design of organ-on-a-chip like devices for better drug design.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study of the electrical and magnetic fields on thermal instability in a boundary layer. The criterion on the position marking on the onset of longitudinal vortices is defined in the present paper. The results show that the onset position characterized by the Grashof number depends on the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the wave number, the electric field parameter, and the Hartmann number. The flow becomes more stable as the magnetic field increases. However, the destabilizing effect is found on the flow when the negative electric field parameter is applied. The results of the present numerical prediction show reasonable agreement with the experimental data in the case of zero Hartmann number and zero electric field parameter in the literature. A general wall function treatment is presented for the numerical modeling of laminar magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows. The wall function expressions are derived analytically from the steady-state momentum and electric potential equations, making use only of local variables of the numerical solution. No assumptions are made regarding the orientation of the magnetic field relative to the wall, nor of the magnitude of the Hartmann number, or the wall conductivity. The wall functions are used for defining implicit boundary conditions for velocity and electric potential, and for computing mass flow and electrical currents in near wall-cells. The wall function treatment was validated in a finite volume formulation, and compared with an analytic solution for a fully developed channel flow in a transverse magnetic field. For the case with insulating walls, a uniform 20×20 grid, and Hartmann numbers Ha={10,30,100}, the accuracy of pressure drop and wall shear stress predictions was {1.1%,1.6%,0.5%}, respectively. Comparable results were obtained also with conducting Hartmann walls. The accuracy of predicted pressure drop and wall shear stress was essentially independent of the resolution of the Hartmann layers. When applied also to the parallel walls, the wall functions reduced the errors by a factor two to three. The wall functions can be implemented in any general flow solver, to allow accurate predictions at reasonable cost even for complex geometries and nonuniform magnetic fields.  相似文献

The peristaltic flow of a Jeffrey fluid in an asymmetric channel is studied under long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The fluid is electrically conducting by a transverse magnetic field. The channel asymmetry is produced by choosing the peristaltic wave train on the walls to have different amplitudes and phase. The flow is investigated in a wave frame of reference moving with the velocity of the wave. The expressions for stream function, axial velocity and axial pressure gradient have been obtained. The effects of various emerging parameters on the flow characteristics are shown and discussed with the help of graphs. The pumping characteristics, axial pressure gradient and trapping phenomenon have been studied. Comparison of various wave forms (namely sinusoidal, triangular, square and trapezoidal) on the flow is discussed.  相似文献

This study investigates the electromagnetohydrodynamic (EMHD) flow of fractional viscoelastic fluids through a microchannel under the Navier slip boundary condition. The flow is driven by the pressure gradient and electromagnetic force where the electric field is applied horizontally, and the magnetic field is vertically (upward or downward). When the electric field direction is consistent with the pressure gradient direction, the changes of the steady flow rate and velocity with the Hartmann number Ha are irrelevant to the direction of the magnetic field (upward or downward). The steady flow rate decreases monotonically to zero with the increase in Ha. In contrast, when the direction of the electric field differs from the pressure gradient direction, the flow behavior depends on the direction of the magnetic field, i.e., symmetry breaking occurs. Specifically, when the magnetic field is vertically upward, the steady flow rate increases first and then decreases with Ha. When the magnetic field is reversed, the steady flow rate first reduces to zero as Ha increases from zero. As Ha continues to increase, the steady flow rate (velocity) increases in the opposite direction and then decreases, and finally drops to zero for larger Ha. The increase in the fractional calculus parameter α or Deborah number De makes it take longer for the flow rate (velocity) to reach the steady state. In addition, the increase in the strength of the magnetic field or electric field, or in the pressure gradient tends to accelerate the slip velocity at the walls. On the other hand, the increase in the thickness of the electric double-layer tends to reduce it.

The article presents an analytical solution for magneto–thermo–electro–elastic problems of a piezoelectric hollow cylinder placed in an axial magnetic field subjected to arbitrary thermal shock, mechanical load and transient electric excitation. Using an interpolation method solves the Volterra integral equation of the second kind caused by interaction among magnetic, thermal, electric and mechanical fields, the electric displacement is determined. Thus, the exact expressions for the transient responses of displacement, stresses, electric displacement, electric potential and perturbation of the magnetic field vector in the piezoelectric hollow cylinder are obtained by means of Hankel transforms, Laplace transforms, and inverse Laplace transforms. From sample numerical calculations, it is seen that the present method is suitable for a piezoelectric hollow cylinder subjected to arbitrary thermal shock, mechanical load and transient electric excitation, and the result carried out may be used as a reference to solve other transient coupled problems of magneto–thermo–electro–elasticity.  相似文献

The pulsatile electroosmotic flow (PEOF) of a Maxwell fluid in a parallel flat plate microchannel with asymmetric wall zeta potentials is theoretically analyzed. By combining the linear Maxwell viscoelastic model, the Cauchy equation, and the electric field solution obtained from the linearized Poisson-Boltzmann equation, a hyperbolic partial differential equation is obtained to derive the flow field. The PEOF is controlled by the angular Reynolds number, the ratio of the zeta potentials of the microchannel walls, the electrokinetic parameter, and the elasticity number. The main results obtained from this analysis show strong oscillations in the velocity profiles when the values of the elasticity number and the angular Reynolds number increase due to the competition among the elastic, viscous, inertial, and electric forces in the flow.  相似文献

This article investigates the effects of an induced magnetic field on the mixed convection peristaltic motion of nanofluid in a vertical channel. Transport equations involve the combined effects of Brownian motion and thermophoretic diffusion of nanoparticles. Analysis has been addressed subject to long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. Explicit expressions of stream function, magnetic force function, temperature and nanoparticles concentration are developed. Analytic expressions are validated with the obtained numerical solutions. Peristaltic pumping rate is found to increase upon increasing the strengths of electric and magnetic fields and the buoyancy force due to temperature gradient. Moreover temperature rises and nanoparticles concentration decreases with an intensification in the Brownian motion effect.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical solution to periodical streaming potential, flow-induced electric field and velocity of periodical pressure-driven flows in twodimensional uniform microchannel based on the Poisson-Boltzmann equations for electric double layer and Navier-Stokes equation for liquid flow. Dimensional analysis indicates that electric-viscous force depends on three factors: (1) Electric-viscous number representing a ratio between maximum of electric-viscous force and pressure gradient in a steady state, (2) profile function describing the distribution profile of electro-viscous force in channel section, and (3) coupling coefficient reflecting behavior of arnplitude damping and phase offset of electro-viscous force. Analytical results indicate that flow-induced electric field and flow velocity depend on frequency Reynolds number (Re = wh^2/v). Flow-induced electric field varies very slowly with Re when Re 〈 1, and rapidly decreases when Re 〉 1. Electro-viscous effect on flow-induced electric field and flow velocity are very significant when the rate of the channel width to the thickness of electric double layer is small.  相似文献

A numerical study of mixed convection in a vertical channel filled with a porous medium including the effect of inertial forces is studied by taking into account the effect of viscous and Darcy dissipations. The flow is modeled using the Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy equations. The two boundaries are considered as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal and isothermal–isoflux for the left and right walls of the channel and kept either at equal or at different temperatures. The governing equations are solved numerically by finite difference method with Southwell–Over–Relaxation technique for extended Darcy model and analytically using perturbation series method for Darcian model. The velocity and temperature fields are obtained for various porous parameter, inertia effect, product of Brinkman number and Grashof number and the ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number for equal and different wall temperatures. Nusselt number at the walls is also determined for three types of thermal boundary conditions. The viscous dissipation enhances the flow reversal in the case of downward flow while it counters the flow in the case of upward flow. The Darcy and inertial drag terms suppress the flow. It is found that analytical and numerical solutions agree very well for the Darcian model. An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

An analysis of fully developed combined free and forced convective flow in a fluid saturated porous medium channel bounded by two vertical parallel plates is presented. The flow is modeled using Brinkman equation model. The viscous and Darcy dissipation terms are also included in the energy equation. Three types of thermal boundary conditions such as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal, and isothermal–isoflux for the left–right walls of the channel are considered. Analytical solutions for the governing ordinary differential equations are obtained by perturbation series method. In addition, closed form expressions for the Nusselt number at both the left and right channel walls are derived. Results have been presented for a wide range of governing parameters such as porous parameter, ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number, viscosity ratio, width ratio, and conductivity ratio on velocity, and temperature fields. It is found that the presence of porous matrix in one of the region reduces the velocity and temperature.  相似文献

The unsteady mixed convection flow of electrical conducting nanofluid and heat transfer due to a permeable linear stretching sheet with the combined effects of an electric field, magnetic field, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical reaction have been investigated. A similarity transformation is used to transform the constitutive equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resultant system of equations is then solved numerically using implicit finite difference method. The velocity, temperature, concentration, entropy generation, and Bejan number are obtained with the dependence of different emerging parameters examined. It is noticed that the velocity is more sensible with high values of electric field and diminished with a magnetic field. The radiative heat transfer and viscous dissipation enhance the heat conduction in the system. Moreover, the impact of mixed convection parameter and Buoyancy ratio parameter on Bejan number profile has reverse effects. A chemical reaction reduced the nanoparticle concentration for higher values.  相似文献

The interaction of the viscous dissipation effect with the presence of buoyancy forces is investigated for laminar-flow heat transfer in a parallel-plate vertical channel. One of the channel walls is considered as isothermal with a prescribed temperature, while the other wall is considered as insulated. The velocity field is assumed to be parallel. The velocity field, the temperature field and the Nusselt number are obtained by a perturbation series method which employs the ratio between the Grashof number and the Reynolds number as the perturbation parameter. The radius of convergence of the perturbation series is estimated. Received on 10 December 1997  相似文献

A flow and heat transfer numerical simulation is performed for a 2D laminar incompressible gas flow through a constricted microchannel in the slip regime with constant wall temperature. The effects of rarefaction, creeping flow, first order slip boundary conditions and hydrodynamically/thermally developing flow are assumed. The effects of Knudsen number and geometry on thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of flow in a constricted microchannel are explored. SIMPLE algorithm in curvilinear coordinate is used to solve the governing equations including continuity, energy and momentum with the temperature jump and velocity slip conditions at the solid walls in discretized form. The resulting velocity and temperature profiles are then utilized to obtain the microchannel C f Re and Nusselt number as a function of Knudsen number and geometry. The results show that Knudsen number has declining effect on the C f Re and Nusselt number in the constricted microchannel. In addition, the temperature jump on wall and slip velocity increase with increasing Knudsen number. Moreover, by decreasing the throttle area, the fluid flow characteristics experience more intense variations in the constricted region. To verify the code a comparison is carried out with available results and good agreement is achieved.  相似文献
