In-plane elastic wave propagation in the presence of a damaged interface is investigated. The damage is modeled as a distribution of small cracks and this is transformed into a spring boundary condition. First the scattering by a single interface crack is determined explicitly in the low frequency limit for the case of a plane wave normally incident to the interface. The transmission at an interface with a random distribution of small cracks is then determined and is compared to periodically distributed cracks. The cracked interface is then described by a distributed spring boundary condition. As an illustration the dispersion relation of the first modes in a thick plate with a damaged interface in the middle is given.  相似文献

A mathematical model is established to describe a contact problem between a deformable body and a foundation. The contact is bilateral and modelled with a nonlocal friction law, in which adhesion is taken into account. Evolution of the bonding field is described by a first-order differential equation. The materials behavior is modelled with a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive law. A variational formulation of the mechanical problem is derived, and the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution can be proven if the coefficient of friction is sufficiently small. The proof is based on arguments of time-dependent variational inequalities, differential equations, and the Banach fixed-point theorem.  相似文献

Two-dimensional and steady solute transport in a stratified porous formation is analysed under assumption that the effect of pore-scale dispersion is negligible. The longitudinal dispersion produced as a result of the vertical variation of hydraulic conductivity is analysed by averaging the variability of a solute flux concentration and conductivity. The evolution of the solute flux concentration is expressed with respect to the correlated variable, that is the travel (arrival) time at a fixed location and the averaging procedure is constructed to satisfy the boundary condition where the inlet concentration is a known function of time. In such a statement, a velocity-averaged solute flux concentration is described by a conventional dispersion model (CDM) with a dispersion coefficient which is a function of the arrival time. It is demonstrated that such CDM satisfies the assumption that hydraulic conductivity of the layers is gamma distributed with the parameter of distribution which is chosen to represent a reasonable value of the field scale solute dispersion. The overall behaviour of the model is illustrated by several examples of two-dimensional mass transport.  相似文献

A novel approach for implementing an active nonlinear vibration absorber is presented. The absorber, which is built in electronic circuitry, takes advantage of the saturation phenomenon that occurs when two natural frequencies of a system with quadratic nonlinearities are in the ratio of two-to-one. When the system is excited at a frequency near the higher natural frequency, there is a small ceiling for the system response at the higher frequency and the rest of the input energy is channeled to the low-frequency mode.A working model of using saturation to suppress the vibrations of a rigid beam connected to a DC motor has been built. An electronic oscillator is built, and its frequency is set at one-half the frequency of the beam. The output from a sensor on the beam is multiplied by the output from the electronic oscillator and a suitable gain, and the result is used as the forcing term for the oscillator. At the same time, the output from the oscillator is squared and multiplied by a suitable gain, and that result is used as the input to the motor. The oscillator/actuator and the beam act as the two modes of a two-degree-of-freedom quadratically coupled system with a 2:1 autoparametric resonance. When the beam is excited by a harmonic force, its motion quickly becomes saturated, and most of the energy imparted to the beam by the harmonic force is transferred to the electronic circuit and from there to the actuator. Thus, the harmonic force is made to work against itself. As a result, the motion of the beam always remains small.  相似文献

Some properties of unsteady unidirectional flows of a fluid of second grade are considered for flows produced by the sudden application of a constant pressure gradient or by the impulsive motion of one or two boundaries. Exact analytical solutions for these flows are obtained and the results are compared with those of a Newtonian fluid. It is found that the stress at the initial time on the stationary boundary for flows generated by the impulsive motion of a boundary is infinite for a Newtonian fluid and is finite for a second grade fluid. Furthermore, it is shown that initially the stress on the stationary boundary, for flows started from rest by sudden application of a constant pressure gradient is zero for a Newtonian fluid and is not zero for a fluid of second grade. The required time to attain the asymptotic value of a second grade fluid is longer than that for a Newtonian fluid. It should be mentioned that the expressions for the flow properties, such as velocity, obtained by the Laplace transform method are exactly the same as the ones obtained for the Couette and Poiseuille flows and those which are constructed by the Fourier method. The solution of the governing equation for flows such as the flow over a plane wall and the Couette flow is in a series form which is slowly convergent for small values of time. To overcome the difficulty in the calculation of the value of the velocity for small values of time, a practical method is given. The other property of unsteady flows of a second grade fluid is that the no-slip boundary condition is sufficient for unsteady flows, but it is not sufficient for steady flows so that an additional condition is needed. In order to discuss the properties of unsteady unidirectional flows of a second grade fluid, some illustrative examples are given.  相似文献

The pressure is a somewhat mysterious quantity in incompressible flows. It is not a thermodynamic variable as there is no ‘equation of state’ for an incompressible fluid. It is in one sense a mathematical artefact—a Lagrange multiplier that constrains the velocity field to remain divergence-free; i.e., incompressible—yet its gradient is a relevant physical quantity: a force per unit volume. It propagates at infinite speed in order to keep the flow always and everywhere incompressible; i.e., it is always in equilibrium with a time-varying divergence-free velocity field. It is also often difficult and/or expensive to compute. While the pressure is perfectly well-defined (at least up to an arbitrary additive constant) by the governing equations describing the conservation of mass and momentum, it is (ironically) less so when more directly expressed in terms of a Poisson equation that is both derivable from the original conservation equations and used (or misused) to replace the mass conservation equation. This is because in this latter form it is also necessary to address directly the subject of pressure boundary conditions, whose proper specification is crucial (in many ways) and forms the basis of this work. Herein we show that the same principles of mass and momentum conservation, combined with a continuity argument, lead to the correct boundary conditions for the pressure Poisson equation: viz., a Neumann condition that is derived simply by applying the normal component of the momentum equation at the boundary. It usually follows, but is not so crucial, that the tangential momentum equation is also satisfied at the boundary.  相似文献

An asymptotic analysis is presented for a dynamic problem of a semi-infinite isotropic thermoelastic solid with a small surface breaking crack. The exterior surface of the solid is subjected to a series of short thermal pulses. The crack surface is traction free and an ideal thermal contact is assumed across the crack. The stress intensity factor is asymptotically evaluated as a function of the crack depth and time. The effect of a boundary layer associated with the diffusive term is identified. The theoretical model is supplied with numerical simulations.  相似文献

A numerical study on the laminar vortex shedding and wake flow due to a porous‐wrapped solid circular cylinder has been made in this paper. The cylinder is horizontally placed, and is subjected to a uniform cross flow. The aim is to control the vortex shedding and drag force through a thin porous wrapper around a solid cylinder. The flow field is investigated for a wide range of Reynolds number in the laminar regime. The flow in the porous zone is governed by the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer extended model and the Navier–Stokes equations in the fluid region. A control volume approach is adopted for computation of the governing equations along with a second‐order upwind scheme, which is used to discretize the convective terms inside the fluid region. The inclusion of a thin porous wrapper produces a significant reduction in drag and damps the oscillation compared with a solid cylinder. Dependence of Strouhal number and drag coefficient on porous layer thickness at different Reynolds number is analyzed. The dependence of Strouhal number and drag on the permeability of the medium is also examined. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The stability of phase transition fronts in water flows through porous media is considered. In the short-wave approximation a linear stability analysis is carried out and a sufficient condition of hydrodynamic instability of the phase discontinuity is proposed. The problem of injection of a water-vapor mixture into a two-dimensional mixture-saturated formation is solved and its numerical solution is compared with an exact solution of the corresponding one-dimensional self-similar problem. It is discovered that, instead of the unstable discontinuities in the one-dimensional formulation, in the two-dimensional case a lengthy mixing zone with a characteristic scale that increases self-similarly with time is formed.  相似文献

The current paper is devoted to the study of traveling waves in diffusive random media, including time and/or space recurrent, almost periodic, quasiperiodic, periodic ones as special cases. It first introduces a notion of traveling waves in general random media, which is a natural extension of the classical notion of traveling waves. Roughly speaking, a solution to a diffusive random equation is a traveling wave solution if both its propagating profile and its propagating speed are random variables. Then by adopting such a point of view that traveling wave solutions are limits of certain wave-like solutions, a general existence theory of traveling waves is established. It shows that the existence of a wave-like solution implies the existence of a critical traveling wave solution, which is the traveling wave solution with minimal propagating speed in many cases. When the media is ergodic, some deterministic \hbox{properties} of average propagating profile and average propagating speed of a traveling wave solution are derived. When the media is compact, certain continuity of the propagating profile of a critical traveling wave solution is obtained. Moreover, if the media is almost periodic, then a critical traveling wave solution is almost automorphic and if the media is periodic, then so is a critical traveling wave solution. Applications of the general theory to a bistable media are discussed. The results obtained in the paper generalize many existing ones on traveling waves. The problem of the design and aerodynamical calculation of a wing airfoil whose trailing edge glides over a plane horizontal surface is formulated and solved. The known airfoil undersurface is a rectilinear segment forming a given angle with the ground surface, while the upper surface is sought on the basis of a preassigned velocity distribution. This distribution is taken from a class of hydrodynamically advantageous distributions ensuring separationless flow around the airfoil within the framework of the mathematical flow model adopted. The problem is reduced to a mixed boundary value problem in a half-plane and solved analytically. For calculating the lift coefficient the assumption of a thin jetlet flowing between the horizontal region of the airfoil contour and the ground surface is introduced. The effect of the law of pressure decrease along the jetlet, from the stagnation to the exit value, on the lift coefficient is studied. On the basis of the calculations performed a conclusion is drawn concerning the influence of the rectilinear region slope on the airfoil shape; it is also shown how the slope and the value of the maximum velocity on the airfoil affect its shape and the lift coefficient.  相似文献

In this paper, a composite model for earthquake rupture initiation and propagation is proposed. The model includes aspects of damage mechanics, fiber-bundle models, and slider-block models. An array of elements is introduced in analogy to the fibers of a fiber bundle. Time to failure for each element is specified from a Poisson distribution. The hazard rate is assumed to have a power-law dependence on stress. When an element fails it is removed, the stress on a failed element is redistributed uniformly to a specified number of neighboring elements in a given range of interaction. Damage is defined to be the fraction of elements that have failed. Time to failure and modes of rupture propagation are determined as a function of the hazard-rate exponent and the range of interaction.  相似文献

This paper presents a variational multi-scale constitutive model in the finite deformation regime capable of capturing the mechanical behavior of nanocrystalline (nc) fcc metals. The nc-material is modeled as a two-phase material consisting of a grain interior phase and a grain boundary effected zone (GBAZ). A rate-independent isotropic porous plasticity model is employed to describe the GBAZ, whereas a crystal-plasticity model which accounts for the transition from partial dislocation to full dislocation mediated plasticity is employed for the grain interior. The constitutive models of both phases are formulated in a small strain framework and extended to finite deformation by use of logarithmic and exponential mappings. Assuming the rule of mixtures, the overall behavior of a given grain is obtained via volume averaging. The scale transition from a single grain to a polycrystal is achieved by Taylor-type homogenization where a log-normal grain size distribution is assumed. It is shown that the proposed model is able to capture the inverse Hall-Petch effect, i.e., loss of strength with grain size refinement. Finally, the predictive capability of the model is validated against experimental results on nanocrystalline copper and nickel.  相似文献

The dynamics of a simplified model of a spinning spacecraft with a circumferential nutational damper is investigated using numerical simulations for nonlinear phenomena. A realistic spacecraft parameter configuration is investigated and is found to exhibit chaotic motion when a sinusoidally varying torque is applied to the spacecraft for a range of forcing amplitude and frequency. Such a torque, in practice, may arise in the platform of a dual-spin spacecraft under malfunction of the control system or from an unbalanced rotor or from vibrations in appendages. The equations of motion of the model are derived with Lagrange's equations using a generalisation of the kinetic energy equation and a linear stability analysis is given. Numerical simulations for satellite parameters are performed and the system is found to exhibit chaotic motion when a sinusoidally varying torque is applied to the spacecraft for a range of forcing amplitude and frequency. The motion is studied by means of time history, phase space, frequency spectrum, Poincaré map, Lyapunov characteristic exponents and Correlation Dimension. For sufficiently large values of torque amplitude, the behaviour of the system was found to have much in common with a two well potential problem such as a Duffing oscillator. Evidence is also presented, indicating that the onset of chaotic motion was characterised by period doubling as well as intermittency.  相似文献

The elongation of a ferroelastic material sample (whose initial shape is a sphere or an ellipsoid of revolution) under the action of an external magnetic field is studied in an in approximation of small strains. For a sphere, there is a classical estimate obtained under the assumption that elongating in the direction of the field, it becomes a spheroid and the stress and strain fields remain uniform. In the present calculation, it is assumed that the body is an ellipsoid (a sphere in a particular case) only in the absence of an external field; the shape of the sample in the presence of a field is not specified in advance but is found from the condition of balance of surface forces (elastic and magnetic). For the spherical case, the problem is solved exactly: it is shown, that the contour of the deformed body is described by a third-order algebraic equation. The case where the initial configuration is an ellipsoid of revolution is studied numerically. It is shown that in all versions, the refined solution leads to an appreciable increase in the elongation of the sample compared to the classical estimate. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 46, No. 3, pp. 153–164, May–June, 2005.  相似文献

Combined, forced, and free flow in a vertical circular duct filled with a porous medium is investigated according to the Darcy–Boussinesq model. The effect of viscous dissipation is taken into account. It is shown that a thermal boundary condition compatible with fully developed and axisymmetric flow is either a linearly varying wall temperature in the axial direction or, only in the case of uniform velocity profile, an axial linear-exponential wall temperature change. The case of a linearly varying wall temperature corresponds to a uniform wall heat flux and includes the uniform wall temperature as a special case. A general analytical solution procedure is performed, by expressing the seepage velocity profile as a power series with respect to the radial coordinate. It is shown that, for a fixed thermal boundary condition, i.e., for a prescribed slope of the wall temperature, and for a given flow rate, there exist two solutions of the governing balance equations provided that the flow rate is lower than a maximum value. When the maximum value is reached, the dual solutions coincide. When the flow rate is higher than its maximum, no axisymmetric solutions exist. E. In this work, entanglements in a polymer melt are modeled as a system of parallel springs which form and decay spontaneously. The springs are assumed to be nonlinear, and a certain fraction of them is torn apart by a certain strain.Based on these assumptions, a model of behavior in simple shear is developed. This model is shown to predict a behavior comprising that of a Wagner fluid, and is generalized to a tensorial model of single integral type. The integrand depends on a product of a material function, modeling reversible behavior, and a material functional which takes irreversible processes into account.Irreversibility of network disentanglement, which may occur when deformation changes or reverses direction, can be modeled in this way. It is shown that the two well-known Wagner constitutive equations with and without irreversibility assumptions are special cases of the model developed. In case of a deformation which does not change directions, the new material function and the material functional are multiplied to yield Wagner's damping function. When the rate of spring formation is a function of temperature, the developed model is shown to predict thermorheologically simple behavior. A constitutive equation for non-isothermal flow of polymers is developed with this assumption.  相似文献

Waves generated by submarine landslides are treated as three-dimensional flows of a perfect incompressible fluid. For the solution of the Cauchy-Poisson problem a time-discretization is applied which leads at each time step to a non-homogeneous free surface condition; the solution is then divided into two parts. The first part, subject to the true free surface condition, is computed in a simplified domain with constant depth. The second part involves a homogeneous free surface condition, a corrected bottom condition and the true bathymetry. In the case of constant depth, unconditional stability of the time discretization is derived. In the case of variable depth, mass and energy conservation is derived. Numerical results are presented. Comparison is made with other methods for the generation of axisymmetric waves. The transient propagation along a rectilinear coast is studied, including a comparison between two different bathymetries; trapping of energy is observed.  相似文献
