Convective flow and heat transfer in an inclined channel bounded by two rigid plates held at constant different temperatures with one region filled with porous matrix saturated with a viscous fluid and another region with a clear viscous fluid different from the fluid in first region is studied analytically. The coupled nonlinear governing equations are solved using regular perturbation method. It is found that the presence of porous matrix in one of the region reduces the velocity and temperature. Results have been presented for a wide range of governing parameters such as Grashof number, porous parameter, angle of inclination, ratio of heights of the two layers and also the ratio of viscosities.  相似文献

An analytical investigation is performed into the problem of steady filmwise condensation flow over the outside surface of a horizontal tube embedded in a porous medium with suction at the tube surface. As in classical film condensation problems, an assumption is made that the condensate and vapor layers meet at a common boundary rather than being separated by an intermediary two-phase zone. Furthermore, it is assumed that the condensate film has constant properties and conforms to Darcy’s law within the porous medium. By introducing an effective suction function to represent the effect of the wall suction on the thickness of the liquid film, both the local condensate film thickness and the local Nusselt number are derived using a simple numerical shooting method. The analytical results indicate that the mean Nusselt number depends on the Darcy number, the Jakob number, the Rayleigh number and the suction parameter. Furthermore, it is found that the local Nusselt number has a maximum value at the upper surface of the horizontal tube and reduces toward zero at the lower surface as a result of the finite thickness of the condensate layer.  相似文献

In this work, the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) natural convection heat transfer problem inside a porous medium filled with inclined rectangular enclosures is investigated numerically. The boundary conditions selected on the enclosure are two adiabatic and two isothermal walls. The governing equations, continuity, and Forchheimer extension of the Darcy law and energy are transformed into dimensionless forms by using a set of suitable variables, and then solved by using a finite difference scheme. The governing parameters are the magnetic influence number, the Darcy Rayleigh number, the inclination angle, and the aspect ratio of the enclosure. It is found that the magnetic influence number and the inclination angle have pronounced effects on the fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media-filled enclosures.  相似文献

The problem of combined heat and mass transfer by natural convection over a permeable cone embedded in a uniform porous medium in the presence of an external magnetic field and internal heat generation or absorption effects is formulated. The cone surface is maintained at either constant temperature and constant concentration or uniform heat and mass fluxes. In addition, the cone surface is assumed permeable in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or blowing. The resulting governing equations are non-dimensionalized and transformed into a non-similar form and then solved numerically by an implicit, iterative, finite-difference method. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and excellent agreement between the results is obtained. A parametric study of the physical parameters is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the temperature and concentration profiles as well as the local Nusselt number and the Sherwood number is illustrated graphically to show special trends of the solutions. Heat transfer analysis has been presented for the boundary layer forced convective flow of an incompressible fluid past a plate embedded in a porous medium. The similarity solutions for the problem are obtained and the reduced nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically. In case of porous plate, fluid velocity increases for increasing values of suction parameter whereas due to injection, fluid velocity is noticed to decrease. The non-dimensional temperature increases with the increasing values of injection parameter. A novel result of this investigation is that the flow separation occurred due to suction/injection may be controlled by increasing the permeability parameter of the medium. The effect of thermal radiation on temperature field is also analyzed.  相似文献

An analysis is presented for the problem of free convection with mass transfer flow for a micropolar fluid via a porous medium bounded by a semi-infinite vertical porous plate in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The plate moves with constant velocity in the longitudinal direction, and the free stream velocity follows an exponentially small perturbation law. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicularly to the porous surface in which absorbs the micropolar fluid with a suction velocity varying with time. Numerical results of velocity distribution of micropolar fluids are compared with the corresponding flow problems for a Newtonian fluid. Also, the results of the skin-friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, the rate of the heat and mass transfers at the wall are prepared with various values of fluid properties and flow conditions.  相似文献

An exact and a numerical solutions to the problem of a steady mixed convective MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate with combined heat and mass transfer are presented.A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow with the consideration of the induced magnetic field with viscous and magnetic dissipations of energy. The porous plate is subjected to a constant suction velocity as well as a uniform mixed stream velocity. The governing equations are solved by the perturbation technique and a numerical method. The analytical expressions for the velocity field, the temperature field, the induced magnetic field, the skin-friction,and the rate of heat transfer at the plate are obtained. The numerical results are demonstrated graphically for various values of the parameters involved in the problem. The effects of the Hartmann number, the chemical reaction parameter, the magnetic Prandtl number, and the other parameters involved in the velocity field, the temperature field, the concentration field, and the induced magnetic field from the plate to the fluid are discussed. An increase in the heat source/sink or the Eckert number is found to strongly enhance the fluid velocity values. The induced magnetic field along the x-direction increases with the increase in the Hartmann number, the magnetic Prandtl number, the heat source/sink,and the viscous dissipation. It is found that the flow velocity, the fluid temperature, and the induced magnetic field decrease with the increase in the destructive chemical reaction.Applications of the study arise in the thermal plasma reactor modelling, the electromagnetic induction, the magnetohydrodynamic transport phenomena in chromatographic systems, and the magnetic field control of materials processing.  相似文献

A magnetic hydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convective heat transfer problem of a second-grade viscoelastic fluid past a wedge with porous suction or injection has been studied. Governing equations include continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation of the fluid. It has been analyzed by a combination of a series expansion method, the similarity transformation and a second-order accurate finite-difference method. Solutions of wedge flow on the wedge surface have been obtained by a generalized Falkner-Skan flow derivation. Some important parameters have been discussed by this study, which include the Prandtl number (Pr), the elastic number (E), the free convection parameter (G) and the magnetic parameter (M), the porous suction and injection parameter (C) and the wedge shape factor (β). Results indicated that elastic effect (E) in the flow could increase the local heat transfer coefficient and enhance the heat transfer of a wedge. In addition, similar to the results from Newtonian fluid flow and conduction analysis of a wedge, better heat transfer is obtained with a larger G and Pr.  相似文献

MHD Couette flow in a channel with non-conducting walls, partially filled with a porous medium, is investigated in the presence of an inclined magnetic field in a rotating system. It is observed that the MHD flow behaviour in the channel has been influenced significantly by the Coriolis force, the hydromagnetic force with an inclusion of Hall current and the permeability of the porous medium. Effects of the parameters of these forces on the velocity distributions, induced magnetic field distributions and the skin friction have been depicted graphically and discussed.  相似文献

The problem of double-diffusive convection in inclined finned triangular porous enclosures for various thermal and concentration boundary conditions and in the presence of heat source or sink was studied. The finite difference method was employed to solve the dimensionless governing equations of the problem. The effects of the governing parameters, namely the dimensionless time parameter, the inclination angle, Darcy number, heat generation/absorption parameter, the buoyancy parameter and the Rayleigh number on the streamlines, temperature and concentration contours as well as selected velocity component in the x-direction, local and average Nusselt numbers and local and average Sherwood number at the heated and concentrated wall for various values of the aspect ratio and the position of the fin were considered. The present results are validated by favorable comparisons with previously published results. All the results of the problem were presented in graphical and tabular forms and discussed.  相似文献

In this investigation, we intend to present the influence of the prominent Soret effect on double-diffusive free convection heat and mass transfer in the boundary layer region of a semi-infinite inclined flat plate in a nanofluid saturated non-Darcy porous medium. The transformed boundary layer ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the shooting and matching technique. Consideration of the nanofluid and the coupled convective process enhanced the number of non-dimensional parameters considerably thereby increasing the complexity of the present problem. A wide range of parameter values are chosen to bring out the effect of Soret parameter on the free convection process with varying angle of inclinations making the wall geometry from vertical to horizontal plate. The effects of angle of inclination and Soret parameter on the flow, heat and mass transfer coefficients are analyzed. The numerical results obtained for the velocity, temperature, volume fraction, and concentration profiles, local wall temperature, local nanoparticle concentration, and local wall concentration reveal interesting phenomenon, and some of these qualitative results are presented through the plots.  相似文献

The diffusion‐thermo and thermal‐diffusion effects on heat and mass transfer by mixed convection boundary layer flow over a vertical isothermal permeable surface embedded in a porous medium were studied numerically in the presence of chemical reaction with temperature‐dependent viscosity. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically by using Runge–Kutta method with shooting technique. Numerical results are obtained for the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions, and the local skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number for several values of the parameters, namely, the variable viscosity parameter, suction/injection parameter, Darcy number, chemical reaction parameter, and Dufour and Soret numbers. The obtained results are presented graphically and in tabulated form, and the physical aspects of the problem are discussed. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effect of lateral mass flux on mixed convection heat and mass transfer in a saturated porous medium adjacent to an inclined permeable surface is analyzed. A similarity solution is obtained when surface temperature and concentration, free stream velocity and injection/suction velocity of fluid are prescribed as power functions of distance from the leading edge. The cases when the flow and buoyancy forces are in the same and opposite directions are discussed both for aiding and opposing buoyancy effects. The governing parameters are the mixed convection parameter Gr, the Lewis number Le, the buoyancy ratio N, the lateral mass flux parameter f w, representing the effects of injection or withdrawal of fluid at the wall, and λ which specifies three cases of the inclined plate. The interactive effect of these parameters on heat and mass transfer rates are presented. It is observed that the diffusion ratio (Le) has a more pronounced effect on concentration field than on flow and temperature fields. It is found that the rates of heat and mass transfer increase with suction and decrease with injection of the fluid. Received on 31 August 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

In this paper the problem of mixed convection on a moving vertical cylinder with suction in a moving micropolar fluid medium has been investigated, using finite element method. The effect of important parameters, namely micropolar parameter, suction parameter and velocity coefficient parameter have been discussed on the velocity, microrotation and temperature functions when the velocity of the cylinder is greater than the free stream velocity. Skin friction and the Nusselt number have also been computed, which are given in the table. The temperature distribution is effected moderately by the motion of the cylinder as well with the buoyancy parameter.  相似文献

The effects of magnetic field, suction/injection, nanoparticles type, and nanoparticle volume fraction on heat transfer characteristics and mechanical properties of a moving surface embedded into cooling medium consists of water with Cu, Ag or Al2O3 particles are studied. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations containing, suction/injection parameter, magnetic parameter, nanoparticle and volume fraction. These equations are solved analytically. The velocity and temperature profiles within the boundary layer are plotted and discussed in details for various values of the different parameters.  相似文献

The problem of natural convection in an inclined rectangular porous layer enclosure is studied numerically. The enclosure is heated from one side and cooled from the other by a constant heat flux while the two other walls are insulated. The effect of aspect ratio, inclination angle and Rayleigh number on heat transfer is studied. It is found that the enclosure orientation has a considerable effect on the heat transfer. The negative orientation sharply inhibits the convection and consequently the heat transfer and a positive orientation maximizes the energy transfer. The maximum temperature within the porous medium can be considerably higher than that induced by pure conduction when the cavity is negatively oriented. The peak of the average Nusselt number depends on the Rayleigh number and the aspect ratio. The heat transfer between the two thermally active boundaries is sensitive to the effect of aspect ratio. For an enclosure at high or low aspect ratio, the convection is considerably decreased and the heat transfer depends mainly on conduction.  相似文献

The problem of three dimensional unsteady convection flow through a porous medium, with effect of mass transfer bounded by an infinite vertical porous plate is discussed, when the suction at the plate is transverse sinusoidal and the plate temperature oscillates in time about a constant mean. Assuming the free stream velocity to be uniform, approximate solutions are obtained for the flow field, the temperature field, the skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer. The dependence of solution on Pr (Prandtl number), Gr (Grashof number based on temperature), Gc (modified Grashof number based on concentration difference), Sc (Schimdt number), the frequency and the permeability parameter is also investigated.  相似文献

Summary The two-dimensional steady flow of an incompressible and electrically conducting viscous fluid through a porous channel with a transverse magnetic field is discussed. It is assumed that there is constant suction at one wall and constant blowing at the other wall. A perturbation solution is obtained where the perturbation parameter is equal to the difference between the two wall velocities. The behaviour of the solution for various suction Reynolds numbers and magnetic Reynolds number is considered. Finally, the skin friction at one wall is given and is found to increase with the increase of the magnetic field.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid due to a porous vertical stretching surface with a power-law stretching velocity in a thermally stratified medium. Using a special form of Lie group transformations viz. scaling group of transformations, similarity solutions for this problem are obtained. The equations are then solved numerically. With increasing values of the stratification parameter, the velocity as well as temperature decreases. At a particular point of the porous stretching sheet, the velocity decreases with the increasing suction parameter. The dimensionless temperature at a point of the sheet decreases due to suction but increases due to injection. The findings of this study reveal that stratification and suction can be used as means of cooling the boundary layer flow region.  相似文献

The heat and mass transfer of two immiscible fluids in an inclined channel with thermal diffusion, vicious, and Darcy dissipation is studied. The first region consists of a clear fluid, and the second one is filled with a nanofluid saturated with a porous medium. The behaviors of Cu-H2O, In-H2O, and Au-H2O nanofluids are analyzed. The transport properties are assumed to be constant. The coupled non-linear equations of the flow model are transformed into the dimensionless form, and the solutions for the velocity, temperature, and concentration are obtained by the regular perturbation technique. Investigations are carried out on the flow characteristics for various values of the material parameters. The results show that the velocity and temperature of the fluids enhance with the thermal Grashof number, solutal Grashof number, and Brinkman number while decrease with the porosity parameter and solid volume fraction.  相似文献
