This work provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis of a two-dimensional unsteady free convection flow of an incompressible, visco-elastic fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate. Solutions for the zero order perturbation velocity profile, the first order perturbation velocity and temperature profiles in closed form are obtained with the help of Laplace transform technique. The numerical solutions are carried out for the Prandtl number 0.1, 0.72, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 which are appropriate for different types of liquid metals and for different values of magnetic field parameter, M. An analysis is carried out to study the momentum, mass and heat transfer characteristics on the flow of visco-elastic fluid (Walter's liquid-B model) past a stretching sheet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. In heat transfer, two cases are considered:
1.
The sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case); and
2.
The sheet with prescribed wall heat flux (PHF case).
The solution of equations of momentum, mass and heat transfer are obtained analytically. Emphasis has been laid to study the effects of various parameters like magnetic parameter Mn, visco-elastic parameter k1, Schmidt number Sc, and Prandtl number Pr on flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics.  相似文献

Effects of Hall current on MHD free convection boundary layer flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past a heated vertical flat plate of finite dimension in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field have been studied. An exact solution of the governing equations describing the flow has been obtained. The velocity field, induced magnetic field and bulk temperature distributions in the boundary layer flow have been discussed. It is found that the velocity components increase with an increase in Hall parameter. It is noticed that the induced magnetic field components are radically influenced by the Hall parameter. It is also found that the magnitude of bulk temperature in the x-direction decreases with an increase in either Hall parameter or magnetic parameter. On the other hand, the magnitude of the bulk temperature in the z-direction increases with an increase in Hall parameter whereas it decreases with an increase in magnetic parameter.  相似文献

The problem of steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed con- vection stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a vertical stretch- ing sheet is studied. The effect of an externally magnetic field is taken into account. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically by using an implicit finite-difference scheme. Numerical results are obtained for various values of the mixed convection parameter, Hartmann number, and Prandtl number. The effects of an exter- nally magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity, and temperature profiles for both A 〉 1 and A ~ 1, where A is the velocity ratio parameter, are presented graphically and discussed in detail. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered, and it is found that dual solutions exist for the opposing flow.  相似文献

Investigations into the magnetohydrodynamics of viscous fluids have become more important in recent years, owing to their practical significance and numerous applications in astro-physical and geo-physical phenomena. In this paper, the radial base function was utilized to answer fractional equation associated with fluid flow passing through two parallel flat plates with a magnetic field. The magnetohydrodynamics coupled stress fluid flows between two parallel plates, with the bottom plate being stationary and the top plate moving at a persistent velocity. We compared the radial basis function approach to the numerical method (fourth-order Range-Kutta) in order to verify its validity. The findings demonstrated that the discrepancy between these two techniques is quite negligible, indicating that this method is very reliable. The impact of the magnetic field parameter and Reynolds number on the velocity distribution perpendicular to the fluid flow direction is illustrated. Eventually, the velocity parameter is compared for diverse conditions α, Reynolds and position (y), the maximum of which occurs at α = 0.4. Also, the maximum velocity values occur in α=0.4 and Re=1000 and the concavity of the graph is less for α=0.8.  相似文献

An exact solution for the three-dimensional flow due to non-coaxial rotation of a porous disk and a second grade fluid at infinity is obtained. It is shown that for uniform suction or uniform blowing at the disk, an asymptotic profile exists for the velocity distribution. The velocity depends on two parameters: one of them is the suction parameter or blowing parameter and the other is the visco-elastic parameter. Furthermore, it is found that when the value of the visco-elastic parameter is fixed, the velocity decreases with an increase in the value of the suction parameter and when the value of the suction parameter is fixed, the velocity increases with an increase in the value of the visco-elastic parameter.  相似文献

The steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic mixed convection boundary layer flow of a nanofluid near the stagnation-point on a vertical permeable plate with prescribed external flow and surface temperature is investigated in this study. Here, both assisting and opposing flows are considered and studied. Using appropriate similarity variables, the governing equations are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations in the dimensionless stream function, which is solved numerically using the Runge–Kutta scheme coupled with a conventional shooting procedure. Three different types of nanoparticles, namely copper Cu, alumina Al2O3 and titania TiO2 with water as the base fluid are considered. Numerical results are obtained for the skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number as well as for the velocity and temperature profiles for some values of the governing parameters, namely, the volume fraction of nanoparticles ?, permeability parameter f o , magnetic parameter M and mixed convection parameter λ. It is found that dual solutions exist for both assisting and opposing flows, and the range of the mixed convection parameter for which the solution exists, increases with suction, magnetic field and volume fraction of nanoparticles.  相似文献

The unsteady flow and heat transfer of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the forward stagnation point region of a rotating sphere in the presence of a magnetic field are investigated in this study. The unsteadiness in the flow field is caused by the velocity at the edge of the boundary layer and the angular velocity of the rotating sphere, both varying continuously with time. The system of ordinary differential equations governing the flow is solved numerically. For some particular cases, an analytical solution is also obtained. It is found that the surface shear stresses in x- and y-directions and the surface heat transfer increase with the acceleration, the magnetic and the rotation parameters whether the magnetic field is fixed relative to the fluid or body, except that the surface shear stress in x-direction and the surface heat transfer decrease with increasing the magnetic parameter when the magnetic field is fixed relative to the body. For a certain value of the acceleration parameter, the surface shear stress in the x-direction vanishes while the surface shear stress in the y-direction and the surface heat transfer remain finite. Also, below a certain value of the acceleration parameter, reverse flow occurs in the x-component of the velocity profile. Received on 18 May 1998  相似文献

Steady two-dimensional stagnation-point flow of an electrically conducting power-law fluid over a stretching surface is investigated when the surface is stretched in its own plane with a velocity proportional to the distance from the stagnation-point. We have discussed the uniqueness of the solution except when the ratio of free stream velocity and stretching velocity is equal to 1. The effect of magnetic field on the flow characteristic is explored numerically and it is concluded that the velocity at a point decreases/increases with increase in the magnetic field when the free stream velocity is less/greater than the stretching velocity. It is further observed that for a given value of magnetic parameter M, the dimensionless shear stress coefficient |F(0)| increases with increase in power-law index n when the value of the ratio of free stream velocity and stretching velocity is close to 1 but not equal to 1. But when the value of this ratio further differs from 1, the variation of |F(0)| with n is non-monotonic.  相似文献

Heat and mass transfer along a semi-infinite vertical flat plate under the combined buoyancy force effects of thermal and species diffusion is investigated in the presence of a strong non-uniform magnetic field and the Hall currents are taken into account. The induced magnetic field due to the motion of the electrically conducting fluid is negligible. This assumption is valid for a small magnetic Reynolds number. The similarity solutions are obtained using the scale group of transformations. These are the only symmetry transformations admitted by the field equations. The non-linear boundary layer equations with the boundary conditions are transferred to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations with the appropriate boundary conditions. Furthermore, the similarity equations are solved numerically by using a fourth order Runge-Kutta scheme with the shooting method. Numerical results for the velocity profiles, the temperature profiles and the concentration profiles are presented graphically for various values of the magnetic parameter M in the range of 0-1 with the Hall parameter m taking the values 0.5, 1, 2, and 3.  相似文献

The melting phenomenon in two-dimensional (2D) flow of fourth-grade material over a stretching surface is explored. The flow is created via a stretching surface. A Darcy-Forchheimer (D-F) porous medium is considered in the flow field. The heat transport is examined with the existence of the Cattaneo-Christov (C-C) heat flux. The fourth-grade material is electrically conducting subject to an applied magnetic field. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are reduced into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by appropriate transformations. The solutions are constructed analytically through the optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM). The fluid velocity, temperature, and skin friction are examined under the effects of various involved parameters. The fluid velocity increases with higher material parameters and velocity ratio parameter while decreases with higher magnetic parameter, porosity parameter, and Forchheimer number. The fluid temperature is reduced with higher melting parameter while boosts against higher Prandtl number, magnetic parameter, and thermal relaxation parameter. Furthermore, the skin friction coefficient decreases against higher melting and velocity ratio parameters while increases against higher material parameters, thermal relaxation parameter, and Forchheimer number.

The combined effect of viscous and ohmic dissipations on magnetoconvection in a vertical enclosure heated at the vertical side walls in the presence of applied electric field parallel to gravity and magnetic field normal to gravity is investigated. The coupled non-linear equations governing the motion are solved both analytically valid for small buoyancy parameter N and numerically valid for large N. Solutions for large N reveal a marked change in velocity profile, mass flow rate, skin friction and rate of heat transfer. These results are presented for various Hartmann number M, electric field loading parameter E and buoyancy parameter N. It is shown in the case of open circuit (i.e. E ≠ 0) that the effect of magnetic field is to increase both the velocity and temperature in contrast with the short circuit case (i.e. E = 0). The results for the case when the walls are maintained at the same temperatures (i.e. T1 = T2) are obtained as a particular case.  相似文献

The problem of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow of a conducting, incompressible third-grade fluid due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field is considered. An exact analysis is carried out to model the governing non-linear partial differential equation. A numerical solution of the third-order non-linear partial differential equation has been obtained. Several graphs and tables have been drawn to show the influence of porosity ε, magnetic parameter N, material parameters α and β on the velocity distribution.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the effects of temperature-dependent viscosity, thermal conductivity and internal heat generation/absorption on the MHD flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian UCM fluid over a stretching sheet. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equation using a similarity transformation. The resulting intricate coupled non-linear boundary value problem is solved numerically by a second order finite difference scheme known as Keller-Box method for various values of the pertinent parameters. Numerical computations are performed for two different cases namely, zero and non-zero values of the fluid viscosity parameter. That is, 1/?? r ??0 and 1/?? r ??0 to get the effects of the magnetic field and the Maxwell parameter on the velocity and temperature fields, for several physical situations. Comparisons with previously published works are presented as special cases. Numerical results for the skin-friction co-efficient and the Nusselt number with changes in the Maxwell parameter and the fluid viscosity parameter are tabulated for different values of the pertinent parameters. The results obtained for the flow characteristics reveal many interesting behaviors that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the UCM fluid phenomena. Maxwell fluid reduces the wall-shear stress.  相似文献

An analysis is made of Hall effects on the steady shear flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past an infinite porous plate in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. It is shown that for suction at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when S2<Q, where S and Q are the suction and magnetic parameters, respectively. The primary flow velocity decreases with increase in Hall parameter m. But the cross-flow velocity first increases and then decreases with increase in m. Similar results are obtained for variation of the induced magnetic field with m. It is further found that for blowing at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when , where S1 is the blowing parameter.  相似文献

The computational study of the combined effects of radiation and hydromagnetics on the natural convection flow of a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid past a magnetized permeable vertical plate is presented. The governing non-similar equations are numerically solved by using a finite difference method for all values of the suction parameter ξ and the asymptotic solution for small and large values of ξ.The effects of varying the Prandtl number P r,the magnetic Prandtl number P r m,the magnetic force parameter S,the radiation parameter R d,and the surface temperature θ w on the coefficients of the skin friction, the rate of heat transfer, and the current density are shown graphically and in tables. An attempt is made to examine the effects of the above mentioned physical parameters on the velocity profile, the temperature distribution, and the transverse component of the magnetic field.  相似文献

Magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting power-law fluid in the vicinity of a constantly rotating infinite disk in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is considered. The steady, laminar and axi-symmetric flow is driven solely by the rotating disk, and the incompressible fluid obeys the inelastic Ostwald de Waele power-law model. The three-dimensional boundary layer equations transform exactly into a set of ordinary differential equations in a generalized similarity variable. These ODEs are solved numerically for values of the magnetic parameter m up to 4.0. The effect of the magnetic field is to reduce, and eventually suppress, the radially directed outflow. An accompanying reduction of the axial flow towards the disk is observed, together with a thinning of the boundary layer adjacent to the disk, thereby increasing the torque required to maintain rotation of the disk at the prescribed angular velocity. The influence of the magnetic field is more pronounced for shear-thinning than for shear-thickening fluids.  相似文献

A novel approach of combined mathematical and computational models has been developed to investigate the oscillatory two-layered flow of blood through arterial stenosis in the presence of a transverse uniform magnetic field applied. Blood in the core region and plasma fluid in the peripheral layer region are assumed to obey the law of Newtonian fluid. An analytical solution is obtained for velocity profile and volumetric flow rate in the peripheral plasma region and also wall shear stress. Finite difference method is employed to solve the momentum equation for the core region. The numerical solutions for velocity, flow rate and flow resistance are computed. The effects of various parameters associated with the present flow problem such as radially variable viscosity, hematocrit, plasma layer thickness, magnetic field and pulsatile Reynolds number on the physiologically important flow characteristics namely velocity distribution, flow rate, wall shear stress and resistance to flow have been investigated. It is observed that the velocity increases with the increase of plasma layer thickness. An increase or a decrease in the velocity and wall shear stress against the increase in the value of magnetic parameter (Hartmann number) and hematocrit is dependent on the value of t. An increase in magnetic field leads to an increase in the flow resistance and it decreases with the increase in the plasma layer thickness and pulsatile Reynolds number. The information concerning the phase lag between the flow characteristics and how it is affected by the hematocrit, plasma layer thickness and Hartmann number has, for the first time, been added to the literature.  相似文献

The combined effects of the magnetic field, permeable walls, Darcy velocity, and slip parameter on the steady flow of a fluid in a channel of uniform width are studied. The fluid flowing in the channel is assumed to be homogeneous, incompressible, and Newtonian. Analytical solutions are constructed for the governing equations using Beavers-Joseph slip boundary conditions. Effects of the magnetic field, permeability,Darcy velocity, and slip parameter on the axial velocity, slip velocity, and shear stress are discussed in detail. It is shown that the Hartmann number, Darcy velocity, porous parameter, and slip parameter play a vital role in altering the flow and in turn the shear stress.  相似文献

An analysis has been developed to study the unsteady free convection flow of an incompressible visco-elastic fluid on a continuously moving vertical porous plate in the presence of a first-order chemical reaction. The governing equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite difference technique. The obtained numerical solutions are compared with the analytical solutions. The velocity profiles are presented. A parametric analysis is performed to illustrate the influences of the visco-elastic parameter, the dimensionless chemical reaction parameter, and the plate moving velocity on the steady state velocity profiles, the time dependent friction coefficient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number.  相似文献
