The convergence and accuracy characteristics of the preconditioned incompressible Euler and Navier–Stokes equations are studied. An object-oriented C++ numerical code has been developed for solving the inviscid and viscous, steady, incompressible flows problems. The code is based on the cell-centred finite volume method. In this scheme, two-dimensional incompressible Euler and Navier–Stokes equations are modified by a robust artificial compressibility (AC) and a local preconditioning matrix of pressure-sensor type. The preconditioned equations are solved with the Jameson's numerical approach, i.e. artificial dissipation and artificial viscosity terms under the form of a fourth- and second-order derivative, respectively. An explicit four-stage Runge–Kutta integration algorithm is applied to obtain the steady-state condition. The computed results include the steady-state solution of flow past the NACA-hydrofoils and a circular cylinder in free stream, for which the numerical results are compared with numerical works of other researchers. Good agreement is observed. The effects of AC parameter, artificial viscosity and dissipation factor, and local preconditioning coefficient on convergence rate and solution accuracy are tested by computing flow over the NACA0012 hydrofoil. In addition, some important design criteria of a preconditioner, such as stiffness reduction, hyperbolicity, symmetrisability, accuracy preservation for M → 0, and M-property have been examined analytically.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid spectral/finite volume method for steady-state compressible viscous flows. The method is evaluated for accuracy via test cases for various Mach numbers. The domain is divided into a viscous region and an inviscid region. The viscous region uses the full Navier-Stokes equations, while the inviscid region employs the Euler equations. A high order Chebyshev collocation spectral method is developed for the viscous region to resolve boundary layers. This method avoids the dense grids needed by finite-volume methods to resolve the viscous areas. A low order finite-volume method based on a Lax-Wendroff type scheme is employed for the inviscid region. A special interface formulation is developed for coupling the spectral with the finite-volume method. Comparisons with analytic results as well as convergence histories are presented.  相似文献

A high-order accurate explicit scheme is proposed for solving Euler/Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations for steady and unsteady flows, respectively. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model is utilized to obtain the turbulent viscosity. For the explicit scheme, the Runge-Kutta time-stepping methods of third orders are used in time integration, and space discretization for the right-hand side (RHS) terms of semi-discrete equations is performed by third-order ENN scheme for inviscid terms and fourth-order compact difference for viscous terms. Numerical experiments suggest that the present scheme not only has a fairly rapid convergence rate, but also can generate a highly resolved approximation to numerical solution, even to unsteady problem. A fully implicit high-order preconditioned flux reconstruction/correction procedure via reconstruction (FR/CPR) method is developed to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations at low Mach numbers. A dual-time stepping approach with the second-order backward differentiation formula (BDF2) is employed to ensure temporal accuracy for unsteady flow simulation. When dynamic meshes are used to handle moving/deforming domains, the geometric conservation law is implicitly enforced to eliminate errors due to the resolution discrepancy between BDF2 and the spatial FR/CPR discretization. The large linear system resulted from the spatial and temporal discretizations is tackled with the restarted generalized minimal residual solver in the PETSc (portable, extensible toolkit for scientific computation) library. Through several benchmark steady and unsteady numerical tests, the preconditioned FR/CPR methods have demonstrated good convergence and accuracy for simulating flows at low Mach numbers. The new flow solver is then used to study the effects of Mach number on unsteady force generation over a plunging airfoil when operating in low-Mach-number flows. It is observed that weak compressibility has a significant impact on thrust generation but has a negligible effect on lift generation of an oscillating airfoil.  相似文献

A study of viscous and inviscid hypersonic flows using generalized upwind methods is presented. A new family of hybrid flux-splitting methods is examined for hypersonic flows. The hybrid method is constructed by the superposition of the flux-vector-splitting (FVS) method and second-order artificial dissipation in the regions of strong shock waves. The conservative variables on the cell faces are calculated by an upwind extrapolation scheme to third-order accuracy. A second-order-accurate scheme is used for the discretization of the viscous terms. The solution of the system of equations is achieved by an implicit unfactored method. In order to reduce the computational time, a local adaptive mesh solution (LAMS) method is proposed. The LAMS method combines the mesh-sequencing technique and local solution of the equations. The local solution of either the Euler or the NAVIER-STOKES equations is applied for the region of the flow field where numerical disturbances die out slowly. Validation of the Euler and NAVIER-STOKES codes is obtained for hypersonic flows around blunt bodies. Real gas effects are introduced via a generalized equation of state.  相似文献

A fast, matrix-free implicit method has been developed to solve low Mach number flow problems on unstructured grids. The preconditioned compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations are integrated in time using a linearized implicit scheme. A newly developed fast, matrix-free implicit method, GMRES + LU?SGS, is then applied to solve the resultant system of linear equations. A variety of computations has been made for a wide range of flow conditions, for both in viscid and viscous flows, in both 2D and 3D to validate the developed method and to evaluate the effectiveness of the GMRES + LU?SGS method. The numerical results obtained indicate that the use of the GMRES + LU?SGS method leads to a significant increase in performance over the LU?SGS method, while maintaining memory requirements similar to its explicit counterpart. An overall speedup factor from one to more than two order of magnitude for all test cases in comparison with the explicit method is demonstrated.  相似文献

A method is outlined for solving two-dimensional transonic viscous flow problems, in which the velocity vector is split into the gradient of a potential and a rotational component. The approach takes advantage of the fact that for high-Reynolds-number flows the viscous terms of the Navier-Stokes equations are important only in a thin shear layer and therefore solution of the full equations may not be needed everywhere. Most of the flow can be considered inviscid and, neglecting the entropy and vorticity effects, a potential model is a good approximation in the flow core. The rotational part of the flow can then be calculated by solution of the potential, streamfunction and vorticity transport equations. Implementation of the no-slip and no-penetration boundary conditions at the walls provides a simple mechanism for the interaction between the viscous and inviscid solutions and no extra coupling procedures are needed. Results are presented for turbulent transonic internal choked flows.  相似文献

A new computational approach is developed for the analysis of vortex-dominated flow fields around highly swept wings at high angles of attack. In this approach an inviscid Euler technology is coupled with viscous models, similar to inviscid/boundary layer coupling. The viscous nature of the vortex core is represented by an algebraic model derived from the Navier–Stokes equations. The approach also accounts for the effects of the viscous shear layer near a wing surface through a modified surface boundary condition. The inviscid/viscous coupling consistently provides improved predictions of leading edge separation, vortex bursting and secondary vortex formation at relatively low computational cost. Results for several cases are compared with wind tunnel tests and other Euler and Navier-Stokes solutions.  相似文献

In this study, a novel Mach‐uniform preconditioning method is developed for the solution of Euler equations at low subsonic and incompressible flow conditions. In contrast to the methods developed earlier in which the conservation of mass equation is preconditioned, in the present method, the conservation of energy equation is preconditioned, which enforces the divergence free constraint on the velocity field even at the limiting case of incompressible, zero Mach number flows. Despite most preconditioners, the proposed Mach‐uniform preconditioning method does not have a singularity point at zero Mach number. The preconditioned system of equations preserves the strong conservation form of Euler equations for compressible flows and recovers the artificial compressibility equations in the case of zero Mach number. A two‐dimensional Euler solver is developed for validation and performance evaluation of the present formulation for a wide range of Mach number flows. The validation cases studied show the convergence acceleration, stability, and accuracy of the present Mach‐uniform preconditioner in comparison to the non‐preconditioned compressible flow solutions. The convergence acceleration obtained with the present formulation is similar to those of the well‐known preconditioned system of equations for low subsonic flows and to those of the artificial compressibility method for incompressible flows. A multi‐layer hybrid grid method is constructed to simulate complex flow field around 2‐D and 3‐D configuration. The method combines Cartesian grids with structured grids and triangular meshes to provide great flexibility in discretizing a domain. We generate the body‐fitted structured grids near the wall surface and the Cartesian grids for the far field. In addition, we regard the triangular meshes as an adhesive to link each grid part. Coupled with a tree data structure, the Cartesian grid is generated automatically through a cell‐cutting algorithm. The grid merging methodology is discussed, which can smooth hybrid grids and improve the quality of the grids. A cell‐centred finite volume flow solver has been developed in combination with a dual‐time stepping scheme. The flow solver supports arbitrary control volume cells. Both inviscid and viscous flows are computed by solving the Euler and Navier–Stokes equations. The above methods and algorithms have been validated on some test cases. Computed results are presented and compared with experimental data. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A high-order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method is proposed in this work for solving the two-dimensional steady and unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes (INS) equations written in conservative form on arbitrary grids. In order to construct the interface inviscid fluxes both in the continuity and in the momentum equations, an artificial compressibility term has been added to the continuity equation for relaxing the incompressibility constraint. Then, as the hyperbolic nature of the INS equations has been recovered, the local Lax-Friedrichs (LLF) flux, which was previously developed in the context of hyperbolic conservation laws, is applied to discretize the inviscid term. Unlike the traditional artificial compressibility method, in this work, the artificial compressibility is introduced only for the construction of the inviscid numerical fluxes; therefore, a consistent discretization of the INS equations is obtained, irrespective of the amount of artificial compressibility used. What is more, as the LLF flux can be obtained directly and straightforward, no numerical iteration for solving an exact Riemann problem is entailed in our method. The viscous term is discretized by the direct DG method, which was developed based on the weak formulation of the scalar diffusion problems on structured grids. The performance and the accuracy of the method are demonstrated by computing a number of benchmark test cases, including both steady and unsteady incompressible flow problems. Due to its simplicity in implementation, our method provides an attractive alternative for solving the INS equations on arbitrary grids.  相似文献

An efficient discrete singular convolution (DSC) method is introduced to the numerical solutions of incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with periodic boundary conditions. Two numerical tests of two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with periodic boundary conditions and Euler equations for doubly periodic shear layer flows are carried out by using the DSC method for spatial derivatives and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for time advancement, respectively. The computational results show that the DSC method is efficient and robust for solving the problems of incompressible flows, and has the potential of being extended to numerically solve much broader problems in fluid dynamics.

An implicit meshless scheme is developed for solving the Euler equations, as well as the laminar and Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes equations. Spatial derivatives are approximated using a least squares method on clouds of points. The system of equations is linearised, and solved implicitly using approximate, analytical Jacobian matrices and a preconditioned Krylov subspace iterative method. The details of the spatial discretisation, linear solver and construction of the Jacobian matrix are discussed; and results that demonstrate the performance of the scheme are presented for steady and unsteady two dimensional fluid flows. This paper discusses the calculation of quasi-three-dimensional incompressible viscous flow by FEM. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved in curvilinear co-ordinates by the reduced integration and penalty method (RIP). Streamline upwind artificial viscosity (SUAV) and the Baldwin-Lomax algebraic model of turbulence are used. Time discretization is by the general implicit θ-method.  相似文献
