Following the theory of linear piezoelectricity, we consider the electroelastic problem for a piezoelectric ceramic with a penny-shaped crack under mode I loading. The problem is formulated by means of Hankel transform and the solution is solved exactly. The stress intensity factor, energy release rate and energy density factor for the exact and impermeable crack models are expressed in closed form and compared for a P-7 piezoelectric ceramic. Based on current findings, we suggest that the energy release rate and energy density factor criteria for the exact crack model are superior to fracture criteria for the impermeable crack model.  相似文献

A plane problem for a crack moving with a subsonic speed along the interface of two piezoelectric semi-infinite spaces is considered. The crack is assumed to be free from mechanical loading. The limited permeable electric condition with an account of electric traction is adopted at its faces. A uniformly distributed mixed mode mechanical loading and an electric flux are prescribed at infinity. The problem is reduced to the Riemann–Hilbert problem by means of introducing a moving coordinate system and assuming that the electric flux is uniformly distributed along the crack region. An exact solution of this problem is proposed. It permits to find in closed form all necessary electromechanical characteristics at the interface and to formulate the equation for the determination of the electric flux. Analysis of this equation confirms the correctness of the assumption concerning the uniform distribution of the electric flux in the crack region. The values of the electric flux are determined by solving the obtained equation. Thereafter, the stress and electric intensity factors as well as their asymptotic fields at the crack tip are also found. The particular case of a crack moving in a homogeneous piezoelectric material is considered. The values of the electric flux and the fracture parameters are found exactly in a simple form for this case. Also, a numerical analysis is performed for a crack propagating with a subsonic speed between PZT4 and PZT5 materials and for a crack moving in PZT4 material. The electric flux in the crack region, stress and electric intensity factors, crack opening and the energy release rate (ERR) are found as functions of the crack speed, loading and electric permeability of the crack medium. The influence of the electric traction on the crack faces upon the mentioned parameters is demonstrated.  相似文献

The classical laminated plate theory is applied to calculate the stresses and energy release rate function in symmetrically delaminated orthotropic plates. First, the equilibrium of classical plate forces, moments and interfacial shear stresses is formulated. Second, the displacement continuity between the interface plane of a double-plate model was considered. The governing equation system of the double-plate model consists of ten equations. As an example a delaminated, orthotropic, simply-supported plate subjected to a point force is analyzed. The distribution of the plate forces as well as the interlaminar shear stresses over the uncracked part were determined. Moreover, the mode-II and mode-III energy release rate distributions along the crack front were calculated by the J-integral. The 3D finite element model of the delaminated composite plate was also created. The results indicate a reasonably good agreement between analysis and numerical calculation.  相似文献

A plane problem for a tunnel electrically permeable interface crack between two semi-infinite piezoelectric spaces is studied. A remote mechanical and electrical loading is applied. Elastic displacements and potential jumps as well as stresses and electrical displacement along the interface are presented using a sectionally holomorphic vector function. It is assumed that the interface crack includes zones of crack opening and frictionless contact. The problem is reduced to a combined Dirichlet–Riemann boundary value problem which is solved analytically. From the obtained solution, simple analytical expressions are derived for all mechanical and electrical characteristics at the interface. A quite simple transcendental equation, which determines the point of separation of open and close sections of the crack, is found. For the analysis of the obtained results, the main attention is devoted to the case of compressive-shear loading. The analytical analysis and numerical results show that, even if the applied normal stress is compressive, a certain crack opening zone exists for all considered loading values provided the shear field is present. It is found that the shear stress intensity factor at the closed crack tip and the energy release rates at the both crack tips depend very slightly on the magnitude of compressive loading.  相似文献

In this paper, a general theory on the asymptotic field near the crack tip for plates and shells with and without shear deformation effect is established. It is found that four stress intensity factors, two for symmetrical and antisymmetrical stretching and two for symmetrical and antisymmetrical bending, are required to describe arbitrary asymptotic fields near the crack tip for plates without shear deformation. An additional stress intensity factor is required for the transverse shearing force induced by antisymmetrical bending when the shear deformation is included in the analysis. It is also proven by means of the complex variable technique that for problems of plates with shear deformation, there exist similarities in the asymptotic expressions of moments and membrane forces and also in the asymptotic expressions of in-plane displacements and rotations of the mid-surface. The energy release rate associated with crack growth in the direction of the crack line can be expressed in terms of stress intensity factors by means of Irwin's method of work and energy associated with a virtual crack extension. A combined stress intensity factor can be defined through the total energy release rate. The theory of the fracture of plates is generalized and applied to the study of problems in the fracture of shells. An example of an infinitely long cylindrical shell with a circumferential crack subjected to remote axial tension is given to demonstrate the application of the theory and to test the accuracy of the numerical analysis used for the problem.  相似文献

Graded materials are multiphase composites with continuously varying thermophysical properties. The concept provides material scientists and engineers with an important tool to develop new materials tailored for some specific applications. One such application of this new class of materials is as top coats or interfacial regions in thermal barrier systems. A widely observed failure mode in these layered materials is known to be interfacial cracking that leads to spallation. In many cases it is the buckling instability of coating under mechanically or thermally induced compressive stresses that triggers spallation. Under in-plane loading since the linear elastic small deformation theory gives only a trivial solution, in this study the plane strain interface crack problem for a graded coating bonded to a homogeneous substrate is formulated by using a kinematically nonlinear continuum theory. Both the instability and the postbuckling problems are considered. The main objective of the study is the investigation of the influence of material nonhomogeneity, kinematic nonlinearity and plate approximation on the critical instability load and on such fracture mechanics parameters as strain energy release rate, stress intensity factors and crack opening displacements.  相似文献

The mode III crack problem in a medium possessing coupled electro-magneto-elastic is considered. Two asymmetrical edge cracks emanate from an elliptical hole. Combined stress, electric and magnetic loads are considered. The elliptical hole and cracks are assumed to be either magneto-electrically impermeable or permeable. The closed-form solution for stress, electric and magnetic intensity factors are derived explicitly. Also the solution for energy release rate is given in closed form. The solution is based on the complex variable method combined with the method of conformal mapping. Numerical computations are given to illustrate the effect of variable geometrical and material parameters on stress, electric and magnetic intensity factors and energy release rate.  相似文献

Novel interface deformable bi-layer beam theory is developed to account for local effects at crack tip of bi-material interface by modeling a bi-layer composite beam as two separate shear deformable sub-layers with consideration of crack tip deformation. Unlike the sub-layer model in the literature in which the crack tip deformations under the interface peel and shear stresses are ignored and thus a “rigid” joint is used, the present study introduces two interface compliances to account for the effect of interface stresses on the crack tip deformation which is referred to as the elastic foundation effect; thus a flexible condition along the interface is considered. Closed-form solutions of resultant forces, deformations, and interface stresses are obtained for each sub-layer in the bi-layer beam, of which the local effects at the crack tip are demonstrated. In this study, an elastic deformable crack tip model is presented for the first time which can improve the split beam solution. The present model is in excellent agreements with analytical 2-D continuum solutions and finite element analyses. The resulting crack tip rotation is then used to calculate the energy release rate (ERR) and stress intensity factor (SIF) of interface fracture in bi-layer materials. Explicit closed-form solutions for ERR and SIF are obtained for which both the transverse shear and crack tip deformation effects are accounted. Compared to the full continuum elasticity analysis, such as finite element analysis, the present solutions are much explicit, more applicable, while comparable in accuracy. Further, the concept of deformable crack tip model can be applied to other bi-layer beam analyses (e.g., delamination buckling and vibration, etc.).  相似文献

Solution of Cauchy-type singular integral equations permits the evaluation of the fracture parameters at the crack tips very accurately. However, it does not permit the determination of the crack opening and sliding displacements while ensuring no crack surface interpenetration unless the location of the contact zone is known a priori. In order to circumvent this shortcoming, this study presents a solution method based on the Hadamard-type singular integral equations to obtain the crack opening and sliding displacements directly while enforcing the appropriate conditions to prevent interpenetration. Furthermore, the crack opening displacements are physically more meaningful and readily validated against the finite element analysis predictions. The numerical solutions of the hypersingular integral equations provide not only crack opening and sliding displacements directly but also the stress intensity factors and energy release rates. Also, the behavior of the energy release rate is examined as the cohesive crack located parallel to the interface approaches the interface from either the soft or the stiff side of the interface. The limiting value of the energy release rate is established by considering an interface crack. As the cohesive crack approaches the interface from either side of the interface, the energy release rate approaches to that of the interface crack. However, the length of contact zone between the cohesive crack surfaces under uniform shear loading does not approach to that of the interface crack.  相似文献

In this paper Reddy’s third-order shear deformable plate theory is applied to asymmetrically delaminated orthotropic composite plates under antiplane–inplane shear fracture mode. A double-plate system is utilized to capture the mechanical behavior of the uncracked plate portion. An assumed displacement field is used and modified in order to satisfy the traction-free conditions at the top and bottom plate boundaries. Moreover, the system of exact kinematic conditions was also implemented into the novel plate model. An important improvement of this work compared to previous papers is the continuity condition of the shear strains at the interface of the double-plate system. Applying these conditions it is shown that the nineteen parameters of the third-order displacement field can be reduced to nine. Using the simplified displacement field the governing equations are derived, as well. The solution of a simply-supported delaminated plate is presented using the state-space model and the displacement, strain and stress fields are determined, respectively. The energy release rate and mode mixity distributions are calculated using the 3D J-integral. The analytical results are compared to those by finite element computations and it is concluded that the present model is the most accurate one among the previous plate theory-based approaches.  相似文献

In this paper, a new semi-analytical and semi-engineering method of the closed form solution of stress intensity factors (SIFs) of cracks emanating from a surface semi-spherical cavity in a finite body is derived using the energy release rate theory. A mode of crack opening displacements of a normal slice is established, and the normal slice relevant functions are introduced. The proposed method is both effective and accurate for the problem of three-dimensional cracks emanating from a surface cavity. A series of useful results of SIFs are obtained.  相似文献

The influence of load biaxiality on the stress field and fracture behavior of a cracked plate is investigated. Considered is a square plate containing a central through the thickness crack and subjected to a biaxial loading perpendicular and parallel to the crack plane. The stress field of the plate is analyzed by a finite element code based on incremental plasticity and the von Mises yield condition. A method based on the strain energy density theory is used to determine the critical stress for crack initiation. It was found that the equi-biaxial loading mode induces the smallest plastic zones, while the critical applied stress for crack initiation becomes maximum. Quite the contrary happens for the shear loading system which causes the largest plastic zones and the minimum applied stress values fro crack growth. Results showing the dependence of the above quantities on the biaxiality of the applied stress are presented in graphical form.  相似文献

Delamination in sandwich structures along the interface between the face sheet and the core, or along the adherend/adhesive interface in adhesively bonded joints, is one of the most common failure modes of this type of tri-layer structure. This delamination is usually modeled as an interface crack problem, for which the energy release rate and phase angle can be calculated using interface fracture mechanics solutions. Existing interface fracture mechanics solutions, however, ignore the effect of transverse shear deformation, which can be significant for short crack. In an effort to overcome this shortcoming, this study presents new analytical solutions for the energy release rate and for the phase angle of the interface crack in sandwich structures or adhesively bonded joints. Since the new solutions incorporate relative rotation at the tip of the delamination, transverse shear effects are taken into account in this study. Typical delaminated sandwich and adhesively bonded joint specimens are analyzed by using the new solutions, as well as by the existing solutions. The energy release rate predicted by the present model agrees very well with that predicted by FEA, and furthermore it is considerably more accurate relative to existing models. As the existing model neglects the transverse shear force, it underestimates the total energy release rate. A stress field analysis is also conducted in this study in order to clarify some misunderstandings in the literature on the determination of the phase angle of adhesively bonded joints using an interface stress-based method.  相似文献

In this paper we develop closed form solutions for anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electric and magnetic fields for two collinear cracks in magneto-electro-elastic layer of finite thickness under the conditions of permeable crack faces using integral transform method. The anti-plane mechanical shear or displacement and in-plane electrical and magnetic loading are applied to the top and bottom surfaces of the layer for the two cases considered. Expressions for shear stresses, electric displacements and magnetic inductions in the vicinity of the cracks are derived as well as intensity factors for two cracks in magneto-electro-elastic layer. Numerical results for stress intensity factors and energy release rate are shown graphically.  相似文献

A non-homogeneous layered space with a semi-infinite interface crack is considered. Isotropic elastic layers having dissimilar thicknesses and shear moduli are arranged periodically and the antiplane stress state is produced by a shear loading applied to the crack faces. Application of the representative cell method based on the discrete Fourier transform allows to reduce the initial problem to the problem for a single bi-layered cell in the transform space and to formulate the Wiener–Hopf equation. The final result is presented in the form of triple quadratures. A parametric study of the stress intensity factor revealed some qualitative differences in its behavior for the cases of equal and non-equal layers thicknesses. The obtained analytical result is employed to derive of the closed form eigensolution corresponding to the traction free crack faces and vanishing remote loading. In addition to the local near tip square root asymptote this solution has also the remote one on a macroscale. The influence of the problem parameters on the ratio of the near to the far stress intensity factor is investigated and expressed by a simple algebraic formula which is confirmed by energy considerations. It is found that when the thin layers are more compliant this ratio is always less than unity, while in the opposite case the local stress singularity may exceed the remote one.  相似文献
