The exact analytic solutions of two problems of a second order fluid in presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field are investigated. The governing equation is of fourth order ordinary differential equation and is solved using perturbation method. In the first problem we discuss the flow of a second order fluid due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity. In second problem the flow of a second order conducting fluid between two infinite plates rotating about the same axis is investigated, with suction or blowing along the axial direction. For second order conducting fluid it is observed that asymptotic solution exists for the velocity both in the case of suction and blowing.  相似文献

Cantilever steel beams of uniform strength are having various industrial applications. In particular when it is used as leaf spring it undergoes very large deflection in comparison to beam of uniform cross section. The damage occurs in these beams mainly due to fatigue loading. Early detection of damage in such type of beams is very essential to avoid a major failure or accident. In this paper, firstly formulation of an objective function for the genetic search optimization procedure along with the residual force method are presented for the identification of macroscopic structural damage in an uniform strength beam. Two cases have been investigated here. In the first case the width is varied keeping the strength of beam uniform throughout and in the second case both width and depth are varied to represent a special case of uniform strength beam. The developed model require experimentally determined data as input and detect the location and extent of the damage in the beam. Here, experimental data are simulated numerically by using finite element models of structures with inclusion of random noise on the vibration characteristics. It has been shown that the damage may be identified for the said problems with a good accuracy.  相似文献

According to the classical shell theory based on the Love-Kirchhoff assumptions, the basic differential equations for the axial symmetrical problems of r>0 thin uniform circular toroidal shells in bending are derived, and the second order asymptotic solutions are given for r>0 thin uniform circular toroidal shells with a large parameter a2/R0h. In the resent paper, the second order asymptotic solutions of the edge problems far from the apex of toroidal shells are given, too. Their errors are within the margins allowed in the classical theory based on the Love-Kirchhoff assumptions.  相似文献

The unsteady oscillatory flow of an incompressible second grade fluid in a cylindrical tube with large wall suction is studied analytically. Flow in the tube is due to uniform suction at the permeable walls, and the oscillations in the velocity field are due to small amplitude time harmonic pressure waves. The physical quantities of interest are the velocity field, the amplitude of oscillation, and the penetration depth of the oscillatory wave. The analytical solution of the governing boundary value problem is obtained, and the effects of second grade fluid parameters are analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the development of algebraic multigrid (AMG) solution methods for the coupled vector–scalar fields of incompressible fluid flow. It addresses in particular the problems of unstable smoothing and of maintaining good vector–scalar coupling in the AMG coarse‐grid approximations. Two different approaches have been adopted. The first is a direct approach based on a second‐order discrete‐difference formulation in primitive variables. Here smoothing is stabilized using a minimum residual control harness and velocity–pressure coupling is maintained by employing a special interpolation during the construction of the inter‐grid transfer operators. The second is an indirect approach that avoids the coupling problem altogether by using a fourth‐order discrete‐difference formulation in a single scalar‐field variable, primitive variables being recovered in post‐processing steps. In both approaches the discrete‐difference equations are for the steady‐state limit (infinite time step) with a fully implicit treatment of advection based on central differencing using uniform and non‐uniform unstructured meshes. They are solved by Picard iteration, the AMG solvers being used repeatedly for each linear approximation. Both classical AMG (C‐AMG) and smoothed‐aggregation AMG (SA‐AMG) are used. In the direct approach, the SA‐AMG solver (with inter‐grid transfer operators based on mixed‐order interpolation) provides an almost mesh‐independent convergence. In the indirect approach for uniform meshes, the C‐AMG solver (based on a Jacobi‐relaxed interpolation) provides solutions with an optimum scaling of the convergence rates. For non‐uniform meshes this convergence becomes mesh dependent but the overall solution cost increases relatively slowly with increasing mesh bandwidth. An exact solution for the three-dimensional flow due to non-coaxial rotation of a porous disk and a second grade fluid at infinity is obtained. It is shown that for uniform suction or uniform blowing at the disk, an asymptotic profile exists for the velocity distribution. The velocity depends on two parameters: one of them is the suction parameter or blowing parameter and the other is the visco-elastic parameter. Furthermore, it is found that when the value of the visco-elastic parameter is fixed, the velocity decreases with an increase in the value of the suction parameter and when the value of the suction parameter is fixed, the velocity increases with an increase in the value of the visco-elastic parameter.  相似文献

For incompressible fluids of second grade that are compatible with the Clausius-Duhem inequality, non-uniqueness of steady flows with small Reynolds number (i.e. creeping flows) is possible provided the ‘absorption number’ is also small. We discuss this uniqueness question, generalize a well-known theorem of Tanner concerning how solutions of the Stokes equations may be used to generate solutions of the creeping flow equations for fluids of second grade, and give a new uniqueness theorem appropriate to a class of problems for the steady creeping flow of fluids of second grade. Under the conditions for uniqueness, we obtain a simple formula for the drag force on a fixed body which is immersed in a fluid of second grade which is undergoing uniform creeping flow. For bodies with certain geometric symmetries, the non-Newtonian nature of the fluid has no effect upon the drag.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the initial-boundary value problem for a second order hyperbolic equation with initial jump. The bounds on the derivatives of the exact solution are given. In this paper a singularly perturbed linear second order hyperbolic problem with zeroth order reduced equation is discussed. Firstly, an energy inequality of the solution and an estimate of the remainder term of the asymptotic solution are given. Then an exponentially fitted difference scheme is developed in an equidistant mesh. Finally, uniform convergence in small parameter is proved in the sense of discrete energy norm.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a singularly perturbed problem without turning points. On a special diseretization mesh, a coupling difference scheme, resulting from central difference scheme and Abrahamsson-Keller-Kreiss box scheme, is proposed and the second order convergence, uniform in the small parameter, is proved. The concept of forward uniform persistence for such systems is introduced. In this paper, the behavior of a continuous flow in the vicinity of a closed positively invariant subset in a metric space is investigated. The main theorem in this part in some sense generalizes previous results concerning classification of the flow near a compact invariant set in a locally compact metric space which was described by Ura-Kimura (1960) and Bhatia (1969). By applying the obtained main theorem, we are able to prove two persistence theorems. In the first one, several equivalent statements are established, which unify and generalize earlier results based on Liapunov-like functions and those about the equivalence of weak uniform persistence and uniform persistence. The second theorem generalizes the classical uniform persistence theorems based on analysis of the flow on the boundary by relaxing point dissipativity and invariance of the boundary. Several examples are given which show that our theorems will apply to a wider varity of ecological models.  相似文献

The dispersion relation is derived for a spheroidal charged drop oscillating in a uniform electrostatic field and radiating electromagnetic waves in the first and second orders with respect to the dimensionless oscillation amplitude and the steady-state deformation, respectively. For an individual drop and a model cloud the intensity of the electromagnetic radiation and the frequency bandwidth are estimated as functions of the drop dimensions and charge and the external electric field strength.  相似文献

The scattering of time harmonic flexural waves by a through crack in a soft ferromagnetic thin plate under a uniform magnetic field is considered. Fourier transform is employed reducing the magneto-elastodynamic problem to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. Numerical results are obtained for the dynamic moment intensity factor that tends to increase with increasing magnetic induction and effect becomes more and more pronounced as the frequency of the flexural waves is decreased.  相似文献

A novel numerical procedure for heat, mass and momentum transfer in fluid flow is presented. The new scheme is passed on a non‐upwind, interconnected, multi‐grid, overlapping (NIMO) finite‐difference algorithm. In 2D flows, the NIMO algorithm solves finite‐difference equations for each dependent variable on four overlapping grids. The finite‐difference equations are formulated using the control‐volume approach, such that no interpolations are needed for computing the convective fluxes. For a particular dependent variable, four fields of values are produced. The NIMO numerical procedure is tested against the exact solution of two test problems. The first test problem is an oblique laminar 2D flow with a double step abrupt change in a passive scalar variable for infinite Peclet number. The second test problem is a rotating radial flow in an annular sector with a single step abrupt change in a passive scalar variable for infinite Peclet number. The NIMO scheme produced essentially the exact solution using different uniform and non‐uniform square and rectangular grids for 45 and 30° angle of inclination. All other schemes were unable to capture the exact solution, especially for the rectangular and non‐uniform grids. The NIMO scheme was also successful in predicting the exact solution for the rotating radial flow, using a uniform cylindrical‐polar coordinate grid. A new quasi real-time method has been developed for the unambiguous determination of fractional value as well as algebraic sign of fringe orders in hologram interferemetry. Two reference beams are employed in this method. The first exposure is recorded with one reference beam while the second exposure is recorded with the other. In playback, both reference beams are used simultaneously. A calibrated phase shifting device in one reference beam allows for a uniform shifting of fringes and, hence, a means for determining fractional orders.  相似文献

We investigate the relative performance of a second‐order Adams–Bashforth scheme and second‐order and fourth‐order Runge–Kutta schemes when time stepping a 2D linear advection problem discretised using a spectral/hp element technique for a range of different mesh sizes and polynomial orders. Numerical experiments explore the effects of short (two wavelengths) and long (32 wavelengths) time integration for sets of uniform and non‐uniform meshes. The choice of time‐integration scheme and discretisation together fixes a CFL limit that imposes a restriction on the maximum time step, which can be taken to ensure numerical stability. The number of steps, together with the order of the scheme, affects not only the runtime but also the accuracy of the solution. Through numerical experiments, we systematically highlight the relative effects of spatial resolution and choice of time integration on performance and provide general guidelines on how best to achieve the minimal execution time in order to obtain a prescribed solution accuracy. The significant role played by higher polynomial orders in reducing CPU time while preserving accuracy becomes more evident, especially for uniform meshes, compared with what has been typically considered when studying this type of problem.© 2014.
