In the present work, vibration characteristics of thin functionally graded cylindrical shells are studied under the influence of various boundary conditions. Fabrication of FGM cylindrical shell is carried out by using exponential volume fraction law. Strain- and curvature-displacements relationships are taken from Love’s thin shell theory. The frequency equation in the form of eigenvalue problem is obtained by adapting the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Characteristic beam functions are assumed to approximate the axial modal dependence. Effects of exponential volume fraction law on the natural frequencies of the FGM cylindrical shells for various boundary conditions are studied against circumferential wave number, length to radius ratio and thickness to radius ratio for different values of power law exponents. Results evaluated show good agreement with those available in the literature.  相似文献

In the present study, a vibration frequency analysis of a bi-layered cylindrical shell composed of two independent functionally graded layers is presented. The thickness of the shell layers is assumed to be equal and constant. Material properties of the constituents of bi-layered functionally graded cylindrical shell are assumed to vary smoothly and continuously through the thickness of the layers of the shell and are controlled by volume fraction power law distribution. The expressions for strain–displacement and curvature–displacement relationships are utilized from Love’s first approximation linear thin shell theory. The versatile Rayleigh–Ritz approach is employed to formulate the frequency equations in the form of eigenvalue problem. Influence of material distribution in the two functionally graded layers of the cylindrical shells is investigated on shell natural frequencies for various shell parameters with simply supported end conditions. To check the validity, accuracy and efficiency of the present methodology, results obtained are compared with those available in the literature.  相似文献

The free thermal vibration of functionally graded material (FGM) cylindrical shells containing porosities is investigated. Both even distribution and uneven distribution are taken into account. In addition, three thermal load types, i.e., uniform temperature rise (UTR), nonlinear temperature rise (NLTR), and linear temperature rise (LTR), are researched to explore their effects on the vibration characteristics of porous FGM cylindrical shells. A modified power-law formulation is used to describe the material properties of FGM shells in the thickness direction. Love’s shell theory is used to formulate the strain-displacement equations, and the Rayleigh-Ritz method is utilized to calculate the natural frequencies of the system. The results show that the natural frequencies are affected by the porosity volume fraction, constituent volume fraction, and thermal load. Moreover, the natural frequencies obtained from the LTR have insignificant differences compared with those from the NLTR. Due to the calculation complexity of the NLTR, we propose that it is reasonable to replace it by its linear counterpart for the analysis of thin porous FGM cylindrical shells. The present results are verified in comparison with the published ones in the literature.  相似文献

Thermal instability of shallow spherical shells made of functionally graded material (FGM) and surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators is studied in this paper. The governing equations are based on the first order theory of shells and the Sanders nonlinear kinematics equations. It is assumed that the property of the functionally graded materials vary continuously through the thickness of the shell according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. The constituent material of the functionally graded shell is assumed to be a mixture of ceramic and metal. The analytical solutions are obtained for three types of thermal loadings and constant applied actuator voltage. Results for simpler states are validated with the known data in literature.  相似文献

Nonlinear free vibration of functionally graded shallow shells with complex planform is investigated using the R-functions method and variational Ritz method. The proposed method is developed in the framework of the first-order shear deformation shallow shell theory. Effect of transverse shear strains and rotary inertia is taken into account. The properties of functionally graded materials are assumed to be varying continuously through the thickness according to a power law distribution. The Rayleigh–Ritz procedure is applied to obtain the frequency equation. Admissible functions are constructed by the R-functions theory. To implement the proposed approach, the corresponding software has been developed. Comprehensive numerical results for three types of shallow shells with positive, zero and negative curvature with complex planform are presented in tabular and graphical forms. The convergence of the natural frequencies with increasing number of admissible functions has been checked out. Effect of volume fraction exponent, geometry of a shape and boundary conditions on the natural and nonlinear frequencies is brought out. For simply supported rectangular FG shallow shells, the results obtained are compared with those available in the literature. Comparison demonstrates a good accuracy of the approach proposed.  相似文献

Love’s first approximation theory is used to analyze the natural frequencies of rotating functionally graded cylindrical shells. To verify the validity of the present method, the natural frequencies of the simply supported non-rotating isotropic cylindrical shell and the functionally graded cylindrical shell are compared with available published results.Good agreement is obtained. The effects of the power law index, the wave numbers along the x-and θ-directions,and the thickness-to-radius ratio on the natural frequencies of the simply supported rotating functionally graded cylindrical shell are investigated by several numerical examples. It is found that the fundamental frequencies of the backward waves increase with the increasing rotating speed, the fundamental frequencies of the forward waves decrease with the increasing rotating speed, and the forward and backward waves frequencies increase with the increasing thickness-to-radius ratio.  相似文献

Based on the nonlinear large deflection theory of cylindrical shells, this paper deals with the nonlinear buckling problem of functionally graded cylindrical shells under torsion load by using the energy method and the nonlinear strain–displacement relations of large deformation. The material properties of the functionally graded shells vary smoothly through the shell thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. Meanwhile, on the base of taking the temperature-dependent material properties into account, various effects of external thermal environment on the critical state of the shell are also investigated. Numerical results show various effects of the inhomogeneous parameter, the dimensional parameters and external thermal environment on nonlinear buckling of functionally graded cylindrical shells under torsion. The present theoretical results are verified by those in literature.  相似文献

A postbuckling analysis is presented for a shear deformable functionally graded cylindrical shell of finite length subjected to combined axial and radial loads in thermal environments. Heat conduction and temperature-dependent material properties are both taken into account. The temperature field considered is assumed to be a uniform distribution over the shell surface and varied in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The formulations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory with von Kármán–Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity. A boundary layer theory of shell buckling, which includes the effects of nonlinear prebuckling deformations, large deflections in the postbuckling range, and initial geometric imperfections of the shell, is extended to the case of functionally graded cylindrical shells. A singular perturbation technique is employed to determine the interactive buckling loads and postbuckling equilibrium paths. The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling response of perfect and imperfect cylindrical shells with two constituent materials subjected to combined axial and radial mechanical loads and under different sets of thermal environments. The results reveal that the temperature field and volume fraction distribution have a significant effect on the postbuckling behavior, but they have a small effect on the imperfection sensitivity of the functionally graded shell.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical approach to investigate the non-linear axisymmetric response of functionally graded shallow spherical shells subjected to uniform external pressure incorporating the effects of temperature. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-independent, and graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of constituents. Equilibrium and compatibility equations for shallow spherical shells are derived by using the classical shell theory and specialized for axisymmetric deformation with both geometrical non-linearity and initial geometrical imperfection are taken into consideration. One-term deflection mode is assumed and explicit expressions of buckling loads and load-deflection curves are determined due to Galerkin method. Stability analysis for a clamped spherical shell shows the effects of material and geometric parameters, edge restraint and temperature conditions, and imperfection on the behavior of the shells.  相似文献

The numerical illustrations concern the postbuckling behavior of twist, perfect and imperfect, FGM cylindrical shells under different sets of thermal fields. The results reveal that the volume fraction distribution of FGMs has a significant effect on the buckling load and postbuckling behavior of FGM cylindrical shells subjected to torsion. They also confirm that the torsional postbuckling equilibrium path is weakly unstable and the shell structure is virtually imperfection–insensitive.  相似文献

In this paper, Donnell's shell theory and smeared stiffeners technique are improved to analyze the postbuckling and buckling behaviors of circular cylindrical shells of stiffened thin functionally graded material(FGM) sandwich under an axial loading on elastic foundations, and the shells are considered in a thermal environment. The shells are stiffened by FGM rings and stringers. A general sigmoid law and a general power law are proposed. Thermal elements of the shells and reinforcement stiffeners are considered. Explicit expressions to find critical loads and postbuckling load-deflection curves are obtained by applying the Galerkin method and choosing the three-term approximate solution of deflection. Numerical results show various effects of temperature, elastic foundation, stiffeners, material and geometrical properties, and the ratio between face sheet thickness and total thickness on the nonlinear behavior of shells.  相似文献

The nonlinear analysis with an analytical approach on dynamic torsional buckling of stiffened functionally graded thin toroidal shell segments is investigated. The shell is reinforced by inside stiffeners and surrounded by elastic foundations in a thermal environment and under a time-dependent torsional load. The governing equations are derived based on the Donnell shell theory with the von K′arm′an geometrical nonlinearity, the Stein and McE lman assumption, the smeared stiffeners technique, and the Galerkin method. A deflection function with three terms is chosen. The thermal parameters of the uniform temperature rise and nonlinear temperature conduction law are found in an explicit form. A closed-form expression for determining the static critical torsional load is obtained. A critical dynamic torsional load is found by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and the Budiansky-Roth criterion. The effects of stiffeners, foundations, material, and dimensional parameters on dynamic responses of shells are considered.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the free vibration of open circular cylindrical shells with intermediate ring supports. An analytical procedure for determining the free vibration frequencies of such shells is developed based on the Flügge thin shell theory. An open circular cylindrical shell is assumed to be simply supported along the two straight edges and the remaining two opposite curved edges may have any combinations of support conditions. The shell is divided into multiple segments along the locations of the intermediate ring supports. The state-space technique is employed to derive the exact solutions for each shell segment and the domain decomposition method is applied to enforce the geometric and natural boundary/interface conditions along the interfaces of the shell segments and the curved edges of the shell. Comparison studies are carried out to verify the correctness of the proposed method. Exact vibration frequencies are obtained for open circular cylindrical shells with multiple intermediate ring supports. The influence of the number of intermediate ring supports, the locations of the ring supports, the boundary conditions and the variation of the included angle of the shells on the natural frequencies are examined. The exact vibration solutions can be used as important benchmark values for researchers to check their numerical methods and for engineers to design such shell structures.  相似文献

This paper reports the results of an investigation into the vibration of functionally graded cylindrical shells with flowing fluid, embedded in an elastic medium, under mechanical and thermal loads. By considering rotary inertia, the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the fluid velocity potential, the dynamic equation of functionally graded cylindrical shells with flowing fluid is derived. Here, heat conduction equation along the thickness of the shell is applied to determine the temperature distribution and material properties are assumed to be graded distribution along the thickness direction according to a power-law in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The equations of eigenvalue problem are obtained by using a modal expansion method. In numerical examples, effects of material composition, thermal loading, static axial loading, flow velocity, medium stiffness and shell geometry parameters on the free vibration characteristics are described. The new features in this paper are helpful for the application and the design of functionally graded cylindrical shells containing fluid flow.  相似文献

Buckling behaviors of axially compressed functionally graded cylindrical shells with geometrical imperfections are investigated in this paper using Donnell shell theory and the nonlinear strain-displacement relations of large deformation. The analysis is based on the nonlinear prebuckling consistent theory. Both the prebuckling effects and the temperature-dependent material properties are taken into account. The buckling condition for imperfect functionally graded cylindrical shells is obtained by using the Galerkin method. Numerical results show various effects of imperfection, structural type, power law exponent, temperature and dimensional parameters on buckling. The present theoretical results are verified by those in literature.  相似文献

The nonlinear large deflection theory of cylindrical shells is extended to discuss nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shells which are synchronously subjected to axial compression and lateral loads. In this analysis, the non-linear strain-displacement relations of large deformation and the Ritz energy method are used. The material properties of the shells vary smoothly through the shell thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. Meanwhile, by taking the temperature-dependent material properties into account, various effects of external thermal environment are also investigated. The non-linear critical condition is found by defining the possible lowest point of external force. Numerical results show various effects of the inhomogeneous parameter, dimensional parameters and external thermal environments on non-linear buckling behaviors of combine-loaded FG cylindrical shells. In addition, the postbuckling equilibrium paths are also plotted for axially loaded pre-pressured FG cylindrical shells and there is an interesting mode jump exhibited.  相似文献

Internal resonance in nonlinear vibration of functionally graded (FG) circular cylin- drical shells in thermal environment is studied using the Hamiltonian dynamics formulation. The material properties are considered to be temperature-dependent. Based on the Karman-Donnell's nonlinear shell theory, the kinetic and potential energy of FG cylindrical thin shells are formu- lated. The primary target is to investigate the two-mode internal resonance, which is triggered by geometric and material parameters of shells. Following a secular perturbation procedure, the underlying dynamic characteristics of the two-mode interactions in both exact and near resonance cases are fully discussed. It is revealed that the system will undergo a bifurcation in near resonance case, which induces the dynamic response at high energy level being distinct from the motion at low energy level. The effects of temperature and volume fractions of composition on the exact resonance condition and bifurcation characteristics of FG cylindrical shells are also investigated.  相似文献
