Abstract

This article contains the nonlocal elasticity theory to capture size effects in functionally graded (FG) nano-rod under magnetic field supported by a torsional foundation. Torque effect of an axial magnetic field on an FG nano-rod has been defined using Maxwell’s relation. The material properties were assumed to vary according to the power law in radial direction. The Navier equation and boundary conditions of the size-dependent FG nano-rod were derived by the Hamilton’s principle. These equations were solved by employing the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). Presented model has the ability to turn into the classical model if the material length scale parameter is taken to be zero. The effects of some parameters, such as inhomogeneity constant, magnetic field and small-scale parameter, were studied. As an important result of this study can be stated that an FG nano-rod model based on the nonlocal elasticity theory behaves softer and has smaller natural frequency.  相似文献

A nonlocal strain gradient theory(NSGT) accounts for not only the nongradient nonlocal elastic stress but also the nonlocality of higher-order strain gradients, which makes it benefit from both hardening and softening effects in small-scale structures. In this study, based on the NSGT, an analytical model for the vibration behavior of a piezoelectric sandwich nanobeam is developed with consideration of flexoelectricity. The sandwich nanobeam consists of two piezoelectric sheets and a non-piezoelectric core. The governing equation of vibration of the sandwich beam is obtained by the Hamiltonian principle. The natural vibration frequency of the nanobeam is calculated for the simply supported(SS) boundary, the clamped-clamped(CC) boundary, the clamped-free(CF)boundary, and the clamped-simply supported(CS) boundary. The effects of geometric dimensions, length scale parameters, nonlocal parameters, piezoelectric constants, as well as the flexoelectric constants are discussed. The results demonstrate that both the flexoelectric and piezoelectric constants enhance the vibration frequency of the nanobeam. The nonlocal stress decreases the natural vibration frequency, while the strain gradient increases the natural vibration frequency. The natural vibration frequency based on the NSGT can be increased or decreased, depending on the value of the nonlocal parameter to length scale parameter ratio.  相似文献

In this work, the size-dependent buckling of functionally graded(FG)Bernoulli-Euler beams under non-uniform temperature is analyzed based on the stressdriven nonlocal elasticity and nonlocal heat conduction. By utilizing the variational principle of virtual work, the governing equations and the associated standard boundary conditions are systematically extracted, and the thermal effect, equivalent to the induced thermal load, is explicitly assessed by using the nonlocal heat conduction law. A higher-order nonlocal strain-gradient model is presented for the damped vibration analysis of single-layer graphene sheets (SLGSs) in hygrothermal environment. Based on Kirchhoff plate theory in conjunction with a higher-order (bi-Helmholtz) nonlocal strain gradient theory, the equations of motion are obtained using Hamilton's principle. The higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory has lower- and higher-order nonlocal parameters and a material characteristic parameter. The presented model can reasonably interpret the softening effects of the SLGS, and indicates a reasonably good match with the experimental flexural frequencies. Finally, the roles of viscous and structural damping coefficients, small-scale parameters, hygrothermal environment and elastic foundation on the vibrational responses of SLGSs are studied in detail.  相似文献

In the paper work, the nonlinear vibration response of functionally graded (FG) Euler–Bernoulli beam resting on elastic foundation is studied. Based on von Kármán’s geometric nonlinearity, the partial differential governing equations describing the nonlinear vibration of FG Euler–Bernoulli beam are derived from Hamilton’s principle and are reduced to an ordinary nonlinear differential equation with quadratic and cubic nonlinear terms via Galerkin’s procedure. Due to unsymmetrical material variation along the thickness of FG beam, the neutral surface concept is proposed to remove the stretching and bending coupling effect and the rotary inertia of the cross section is incorporated to obtain an analytical solution. Numerical results are presented to show the effects of the nonlocal parameters and vibration amplitude on the frequency responses. This results may be useful in design and engineering applications.  相似文献

Due to the conflict between equilibrium and constitutive requirements,Eringen's strain-driven nonlocal integral model is not applicable to nanostructures of engineering interest. As an alternative, the stress-driven model has been recently developed. In this paper, for higher-order shear deformation beams, the ill-posed issue(i.e., excessive mandatory boundary conditions(BCs) cannot be met simultaneously)exists not only in strain-driven nonlocal models but also in stress-driven ones. The well-posedness of both the strain-and stress-driven two-phase nonlocal(TPN-Strain D and TPN-Stress D) models is pertinently evidenced by formulating the static bending of curved beams made of functionally graded(FG) materials. The two-phase nonlocal integral constitutive relation is equivalent to a differential law equipped with two restriction conditions. By using the generalized differential quadrature method(GDQM),the coupling governing equations are solved numerically. The results show that the two-phase models can predict consistent scale-effects under different supported and loading conditions.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that Eringen's differential nonlocal model would lead to the ill-posed mathematical formulation for axisymmetric bending of circular microplates. Based on the nonlocal integral models along the radial and circumferential directions, we propose nonlocal integral polar models in this work. The proposed strainand stress-driven two-phase nonlocal integral polar models are applied to model the axisymmetric bending of circular microplates. The governing differential equations and boundary conditions (BCs) as well as constitutive constraints are deduced. It is found that the purely strain-driven nonlocal integral polar model turns to a traditional nonlocal differential polar model if the constitutive constraints are neglected. Meanwhile, the purely strain-and stress-driven nonlocal integral polar models are ill-posed, because the total number of the differential orders of the governing equations is less than that of the BCs plus constitutive constraints. Several nominal variables are introduced to simplify the mathematical expression, and the general differential quadrature method (GDQM) is applied to obtain the numerical solutions. The results from the current models (CMs) are compared with the data in the literature. It is clearly established that the consistent softening and toughening effects can be obtained for the strain-and stress-driven local/nonlocal integral polar models, respectively. The proposed two-phase local/nonlocal integral polar models (TPNIPMs) may provide an e-cient method to design and optimize the plate-like structures for microelectro-mechanical systems.  相似文献

This paper has successfully addressed three critical but overlooked issues in nonlocal elastic stress field theory for nanobeams: (i) why does the presence of increasing nonlocal effects induce reduced nanostructural stiffness in many, but not consistently for all, cases of study, i.e., increasing static deflection, decreasing natural frequency and decreasing buckling load, although physical intuition according to the nonlocal elasticity field theory first established by Eringen tells otherwise? (ii) the intriguing conclusion that nanoscale effects are missing in the solutions in many exemplary cases of study, e.g., bending deflection of a cantilever nanobeam with a point load at its tip; and (iii) the non-existence of additional higher-order boundary conditions for a higher-order governing differential equation. Applying the nonlocal elasticity field theory in nanomechanics and an exact variational principal approach, we derive the new equilibrium conditions, do- main governing differential equation and boundary conditions for bending of nanobeams. These equations and conditions involve essential higher-order differential terms which are opposite in sign with respect to the previously studies in the statics and dynamics of nonlocal nano-structures. The difference in higher-order terms results in reverse trends of nanoscale effects with respect to the conclusion of this paper. Effectively, this paper reports new equilibrium conditions, governing differential equation and boundary condi- tions and the true basic static responses for bending of nanobeams. It is also concluded that the widely accepted equilibrium conditions of nonlocal nanostructures are in fact not in equilibrium, but they can be made perfect should the nonlocal bending moment be replaced by an effective nonlocal bending moment. These conclusions are substantiated, in a general sense, by other approaches in nanostructural models such as strain gradient theory, modified couple stress models and experiments.  相似文献

A nonlocal elastic micro/nanobeam is theoretically modeled with the consideration of the surface elasticity, the residual surface stress, and the rotatory inertia, in which the nonlocal and surface effects are considered. Three types of boundary conditions, i.e., hinged-hinged, clamped-clamped, and clamped-hinged ends, are examined. For a hinged-hinged beam, an exact and explicit natural frequency equation is derived based on the established mathematical model. The Fredholm integral equation is adopted to deduce the approximate fundamental frequency equations for the clamped-clamped and clamped-hinged beams. In sum, the explicit frequency equations for the micro/nanobeam under three types of boundary conditions are proposed to reveal the dependence of the natural frequency on the effects of the nonlocal elasticity, the surface elasticity, the residual surface stress, and the rotatory inertia, providing a more convenient means in comparison with numerical computations.  相似文献

Vibration of a finite Euler–Bernoulli beam, supported by non-linear viscoelastic foundation traversed by a moving load, is studied and the Galerkin method is used to discretize the non-linear partial differential equation of motion. Subsequently, the solution is obtained for different harmonics using the Multiple Scales Method (MSM) as one of the perturbation techniques. Free vibration of a beam on non-linear foundation is investigated and the effects of damping and non-linear stiffness of the foundation on the responses are examined. Internal-external resonance condition is then stated and the frequency responses of different harmonics are obtained by MSM. Different conditions of the external resonance are studied and a parametric study is carried out for each case. The effects of damping and non-linear stiffness of the foundation as well as the magnitude of the moving load on the frequency responses are investigated. Finally, a thorough local stability analysis is performed on the system.  相似文献

The present paper investigates the dynamic response of finite Timoshenko beams resting on a sixparameter foundation subjected to a moving load. It is for the first time that the Galerkin method and its convergence are studied for the response of a Timoshenko beam supported by a nonlinear foundation. The nonlinear Pasternak foundation is assumed to be cubic. Therefore, the efects of the shear deformable beams and the shear deformation of foundations are considered at the same time. The Galerkin method is utilized for discretizing the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of the forced vibration. The dynamic responses of Timoshenko beams are determined via the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Moreover, the efects of diferent truncation terms on the dynamic responses of a Timoshenko beam resting on a complex foundation are discussed. The numerical investigations shows that the dynamic response of Timoshenko beams supported by elastic foundations needs super high-order modes. Furthermore, the system parameters are compared to determine the dependence of the convergences of the Galerkin method.  相似文献

The governing differential equation of micro/nanbeams with atom/molecule adsorption is derived in the presence of surface effects using the nonlocal elasticity. The effects of the nonlocal parameter, the adsorption density, and the surface parameter on the resonant frequency of the micro/nanobeams are investigated. It is found that,in addition to the nonlocal parameter and the surface parameter, the bending rigidity and the adsorption-induced mass exhibit different behaviors with the increase in the adsorption density depending on the adatom category and the substrate material.  相似文献

In this paper, we analytically study vibration of functionally graded piezoelectric(FGP) nanoplates based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. The top and bottom surfaces of the nanoplate are made of PZT-5 H and PZT-4, respectively. We employ Hamilton's principle and derive the governing differential equations. Then, we use Navier's solution to obtain the natural frequencies of the FGP nanoplate. In the first step, we compare our results with the obtained results for the piezoelectric nanoplates in the previous studies. In the second step, we neglect the piezoelectric effect and compare our results with those obtained for the functionally graded(FG) nanoplates. Finally, the effects of the FG power index, the nonlocal parameter, the aspect ratio, and the lengthto-thickness ratio, and the nanoplate shape on natural frequencies are investigated.  相似文献

Several studies indicate that Eringen's nonlocal model may lead to some inconsistencies for both Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams, such as cantilever beams subjected to an end point force and fixed-fixed beams subjected a uniform distributed load. In this paper, the elastic buckling behavior of nanobeams, including both EulerBernoulli and Timoshenko beams, is investigated on the basis of a stress-driven nonlocal integral model. The constitutive equations are the Fredholm-type integral equations of the first kind, which can be transformed to the Volterra integral equations of the first kind. With the application of the Laplace transformation, the general solutions of the deflections and bending moments for the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams as well as the rotation and shear force for the Timoshenko beams are obtained explicitly with several unknown constants. Considering the boundary conditions and extra constitutive constraints, the characteristic equations are obtained explicitly for the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams under different boundary conditions, from which one can determine the critical buckling loads of nanobeams. The effects of the nonlocal parameters and buckling order on the buckling loads of nanobeams are studied numerically, and a consistent toughening effect is obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel size-dependent functionally graded(FG) cylindrical shell model is developed based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory in conjunction with the Gurtin-Murdoch surface elasticity theory. The new model containing a nonlocal parameter, a material length scale parameter, and several surface elastic constants can capture three typical types of size effects simultaneously, which are the nonlocal stress effect, the strain gradient effect, and the surface energy effects. With the help of Hamilton's principle and first-order shear deformation theory, the non-classical governing equations and related boundary conditions are derived. By using the proposed model, the free vibration problem of FG cylindrical nanoshells with material properties varying continuously through the thickness according to a power-law distribution is analytically solved, and the closed-form solutions for natural frequencies under various boundary conditions are obtained. After verifying the reliability of the proposed model and analytical method by comparing the degenerated results with those available in the literature, the influences of nonlocal parameter, material length scale parameter, power-law index, radius-to-thickness ratio, length-to-radius ratio, and surface effects on the vibration characteristic of functionally graded cylindrical nanoshells are examined in detail.  相似文献

A mathematical model is established to describe a contact problem between a deformable body and a foundation. The contact is bilateral and modelled with a nonlocal friction law, in which adhesion is taken into account. Evolution of the bonding field is described by a first-order differential equation. The materials behavior is modelled with a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive law. A variational formulation of the mechanical problem is derived, and the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution can be proven if the coefficient of friction is sufficiently small. The proof is based on arguments of time-dependent variational inequalities, differential equations, and the Banach fixed-point theorem.  相似文献

The paper presents a thermodynamically consistent formulation for nonlocal damage models. Nonlocal models have been recognized as a theoretically clean and computationally efficient approach to overcome the shortcomings arising in continuum media with softening. The main features of the presented formulation are: (i) relations derived by the free energy potential fully complying with nonlocal thermodynamic principles; (ii) nonlocal integral operator which is self-adjoint at every point of the solid, including zones near to the solid’s boundary; (iii) capacity of regularizing the softening ill-posed continuum problem, restoring a meaningful nonlocal boundary value problem. In the present approach the nonlocal integral operator is applied consistently to the damage variable and to its thermodynamic conjugate force, i.e. nonlocality is restricted to internal variables only. The present model, when associative nonlocal damage flow rules are assumed, allows the derivation of the continuum tangent moduli tensor and the consistent tangent stiffness matrix which are symmetric. The formulation has been compared with other available nonlocal damage theories. Finally, the theory has been implemented in a finite element program and the numerical results obtained for 1-D and 2-D problems show its capability to reproduce in every circumstance a physical meaningful solution and fully mesh independent results.  相似文献

The equivalence between nonlocal and gradient elasticity models is investigated by making reference to one-dimensional boundary value problems equipped with two integral stress–strain laws proposed by Eringen (Nonlocal Continuum Field Theories (2002)). Corresponding closed-form solutions are derived through a procedure for the reduction of integral to differential equations. The reproduction of size effects in micro/nano rods is discussed. The differential formulation associated with the local/nonlocal model is shown to correspond to the strain-gradient formulation proposed by Aifantis (Mech. Mater. 35 (2003) 259–280).  相似文献
