In this paper, transmission characteristics of wave modes in a rectangular waveguide filled with lossless anisotropic metamaterial are theoretically investigated. The wave equation and dispersion relations for TE and TM modes in the waveguide are obtained and analyzed. It is shown that the negative constitutive parameters of the filling anisotropic metamaterial can be used to control the wave magnitude and the phase velocity direction in the waveguide over the entire frequency domain, both below and above the cutoff frequency. Particularly, not only backward waves, but also forward waves can propagate below the cutoff frequency in the waveguide. Furthermore, a typical example is calculated to demonstrate transmission characteristics of waves inside the waveguide. Numerical results are obtained in the paper and compared with theoretical predictions: a good agreement is found.  相似文献

We investigated the dispersion property of a slab waveguide with an anisotropic metamaterial core whose permittivity tensor is partially negative. The subwavelength guidance characteristics are presented based on the boundary conditions. The results show that, at some specific frequencies, many high-order modes can exist in present waveguide even with the thickness of the guiding core 10 times smaller than the working wavelength. It is also found that different orientations of the optical axis of the anisotropic core will lead to different dispersion of the guided modes. If the orientation of the optical axis is properly chosen, the guided modes show a transition from backward wave to a forward wave as the frequency increases. During this transition, the group velocity of some guided modes can approach zero. Since the anisotropic metamaterial we discuss here can be fabricated in GHz, near- and mid-infra-red frequencies, our result may find some applications in wave trapper, integrated optical and nanophotonic devices.  相似文献

本文在理论分析的基础上,实验研究了二维MNG/DPS/MNG(磁单负材料/双正材料/磁单负材料)表面波波导中的慢波效应.该波导的色散曲线随着电路参数(单元电容)的改变而改变,而且在色散曲线的截止频率点,电磁波的群速度理论上等于零.因此可以通过改变MNG区域的电路参数,得到在不同截止频率的慢波特性.另外,本文还通过改变MNG区域的电路参数实现在某一固定频率下波速度渐变的慢波效应.实验结果与仿真结果相一致.  相似文献

研究中通过建立和求解填充各向异性超常媒质的矩形波导TE模式和TM模式的波动方程和场分布方程,讨论了各向异性超常媒质矩形波导的有效介电常数、有效磁导率、相位常数以及传输系数与所填充超常媒质本构参数之间的变化关系.研究发现,填充了各向异性超常媒质的矩形波导的导波特性在截止频率之上的频率区域,其导波特性由所填充超常媒质的横向本构参数决定,而与超常媒质的纵向本构参数无关.但是,在截止频率之下的频率区域,该矩形波导的导波特性则由所填充超常媒质的横向本构参数和纵向本构参数共同决定.研究中通过典型的计算实例对所得到的结 关键词: 各向异性 超常媒质 矩形波导 导波特性  相似文献

In this work are examined the phase and attenuation constants of open magnetoactive p-Ge rod waveguides in the wide frequency range. Our algorithm allows analyzing the very high waveguide losses. Dispersion characteristics of p-Ge with two component hole charge carriers waveguide are calculated when the ratio of heavy holes?? concentration in the material is equal to 10?%, 40?%, and 80?% of the total free carrier concentration. Dispersion characteristics of the main helicon and eight higher helicon modes are presented here. There are the degeneration and the transformation of higher hybrid modes at some heavy holes?? concentrations. The waveguide broad-bandwidth can be considerably extended due to the fact that the losses of the higher parasitic modes are considerably larger in the comparison to the main mode loss at the certain heavy holes?? concentration.  相似文献

We identify a route towards achieving a negative index of refraction at optical frequencies based on coupling between plasmonic waveguides that support backwards waves. We show how modal symmetry can be exploited in metal-dielectric waveguide pairs to achieve negative refraction of both phase and energy. Control of waveguide coupling yields a metamaterial consisting of a one-dimensional multilayer stack that exhibits an isotropic index of -1 at a free-space wavelength of 400?nm. The concepts developed here may inspire new low-loss metamaterial designs operating close to the metal plasma frequency.  相似文献

针对在自由空间中测试超介质吸波材料的高复杂性及高成本特点, 实验研究了4种由电谐振单元构成的超介质吸波材料在X波段(8–12 GHz)矩形波导里的吸波性能. 实验结果表明, 此4种吸波材料在终端短路的矩形波导里显示出与其在自由空间中相似的吸波性能及吸波机理.据此, 进一步研究了基于超介质吸波材料的矩形波导匹配终端应用. 分析结果显示, 此种新型匹配终端具有结构紧凑、工作频段可简单控制、成本低等优点. 通过展宽超介质吸波材料的吸波频段可设计出宽频带的矩形波导匹配终端. 关键词: 电谐振单元 超介质 吸波材料 匹配终端  相似文献

We investigate propagation behavior of electromagnetic waves in a slab uniaxial metamaterial waveguide with metal cladding and discuss the dispersion relation, group velocity and energy flux distribution of transverse electric guided modes in two kinds of uniaxial metamaterial waveguides with different orientations of optical axis in detail. The numerical results show that there exist anomalous dispersion properties such as backward modes existing in low-frequency range, and the group velocity can be negative or approach zero. If the orientation of optical axis is selected properly, each guided mode has two dispersion curves—one is normal dispersion and another belongs to anomalous dispersion and shows a transition from a backward mode to a forward one with the angular frequency increasing. In addition, the condition of the existence of cutoff frequency is clarified. These properties may have potential applications in optical information storage, optical communication, integrated optics and nanophotonic devices.  相似文献

Here, we present our calculation results of the electromagnetic field distributions and the dispersion characteristics of open cylindrical tube waveguides. The analyzed waveguides are made of the onion-like carbon (OLC) material. The solution of the boundary problem was fulfilled by the partial area method (Nickelson et al. in electrodynamical analysis of open lossy metamaterial waveguide and scattering structures. InTech, UK, pp 27–58 [1]). We have determined the complex roots of the dispersion equation using of the Muller method. It discovered the very complicated dependencies of the phase and attenuation constants on the waveguide radii. Such dependencies arise because the OLC material is the highly dispersive and absorbing one. We have investigated the high-frequency cutoff frequency of the propagating hybrid modes HE11 and HE12 dependent on the tube waveguide external and internal radii. We found that it is possible to reach the one-mode regime of OLC tube waveguide.  相似文献

We consider electromagnetic waves guided by slabs of anisotropic resonant magnetic metamaterials in free space and in metal waveguides. It is shown that wave propagation is possible in a waveguide below cutoff with an insert of such a metamaterial. The dependence of the dispersion properties of waves on the geometric sizes of the insert and the waveguide are studied. Vavilov-Cerenkov radiation generated by a relativistic electron bunch in a rectangular waveguide with a transverse-inhomogeneous dielectric filling is analyzed. A method is proposed for constructing an orthogonal basis of the transverse operator, which can be subsequently used for determining the wakefield of the relativistic bunch moving parallel to the waveguide axis. The dispersion equation for the structure is derived and the expressions for the wake field produced by such a bunch are obtained. The formalism described here forms the basis for calculating parameters of the accelerating structure for generator bunches of the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA) at the Argonne National Laboratory and the FACET complex of the SLAC accelerator. It is shown that using such structures, accelerating field gradients higher than 150 MV/m can be generated at frequencies 20?C35 GHz and exceeding 1 GeV/m in the frequency range ??1 THz.  相似文献

In this study, a competent numerical strategy to compute the dispersion of optical waveguides is presented and propagation of electromagnetic waves in a coaxial optical waveguide with DB boundary conditions is instigated. For this intend, cylindrical coordinates are here being used to derive the DB boundary conditions and to obtain field components for the modes. The propagation constant for the waveguide to be studied is determined by solving the Bessel and the modified Bessel functions. The cutoff frequencies for various lower order modes have been calculated and their dispersion characteristics are plotted correspondingly. The behavior of the coaxial optical waveguide under DB boundary conditions is shown to be significantly different from that of coaxial optical waveguide and conventional optical waveguide under traditional or tangential boundary conditions. Finally, the effect of waveguide dimensions on the mode cutoff frequencies and fabrication issues are also addressed.  相似文献

基于液晶材料(LC)的双折射特性提出了一种基于液晶材料的短十字型阵列电控超材料,超材料包括了上层石英板,金属结构阵,中间液晶介质层,金属地板以及下层石英板。相比于传统的阵列天线设计,运用了新的相位补偿方法,即通过加电改变反射阵列单元的介质基板液晶的介电常数得到的相位曲线实现0~250°的相位补偿,使得超材料实现在U波段的相位变化。仿真结果表明,通过将偏压从0增加到14 V,超材料在52 GHz时呈现250°的相移。此外,此超材料的谐振频率可从53.6 GHz连续可逆地转移到49.9 GHz。通过调节超材料液晶激励区域的介电常数即改变阵列单元的谐振特性,实现了相位补偿,为平面反射阵列天线的设计提供了一种新思路。  相似文献

In this paper, we first propose a metamaterial structure by etching the same two interdigital fingers on the upper ground of quarter mode substrate integrated waveguide(QMSIW). The simulated results show that the proposed QMSIWbased metamaterial has a continuous phase constant changing from negative to positive values within its passband. A periodic leaky-wave antenna(LWA), which consists of 11 QMSIW-based metamaterial unit cells, is designed, fabricated,and measured. The measured results show that the fabricated antenna achieves a continuous beam scanning property from backward-43° to forward +32° over an operating frequencyrange of 8.9 GHz–11.8 GHz with return loss better than 10 d B.The measured antenna gain keeps consistent with the variation of less than 2 d B over the operating frequency range with a maximum gain of 12 d B. Besides, the measured and simulated results are in good agreement with each other, indicating the significance and effectiveness of this method.  相似文献

This paper concerns the experimental characteristics of metal coated dielectric waveguides with a rectangular surface corrugation. Waveguide are designed to operate at a second Bragg frequency of 90 GHz. The period, height and the duty cycle of a rectangular grating were calculated using the chosen frequency. A metallic layer of aluminum is sputtered on one side of the slab waveguide. The purpose of the metallic layer is to simulate a layer of high density plasma on the surface of the waveguide similar to that obtained by optical excitation of semiconductor structures. Experiments were performed to examine the far field radiation pattern, attenuation constant and the dispersion relation. Due to the presence of the plasma layer there will be an angular shift in the far field radiation pattern. We have observed angular shifts of about 20 in the radiation pattern of the waveguide before and after coating. Measurements are made in the frequency range of 88–95 GHz. This waveguide structure can be used to design an electronically steerable antenna and an electronic phase shifter operating in the millimeter-wave frequency band.Supported in part by the Army Research Office.  相似文献

Two-dimensional metallic photonic crystal slabs with square lattice are proposed to be used for the design of waveguide bandpass filters operating in millimeter to terahertz region. Filter characteristics are studied when rod radii and lattice constants are changed. Based on the frequency scaling technique, a series of higher frequency filters has been designed. By using laser drilling and welding processing techniques, a compact waveguide filter embedded in an EIA-WR10 waveguide with central frequency 145.5 GHz and 3-dB bandwidth of 5.26 GHz is fabricated and measured. Magnetic properties can be imparted to a naturally nonmagnetic material by metallic inclusions. A multiband meandered square microstrip patch antenna loaded with such a metamaterial is reported. Metamaterials exhibit qualitatively new electromagnetic response functions that cannot be found in nature. The inclusion of these structures allows simultaneous operation over several frequencies. The antenna was designed to function in multiple bands in the frequency range 0.6–2.2?GHz. The antenna has eight working frequency bands and its centre frequencies are 670?MHz, 1185 MHz, 1293?MHz, 1747?MHz, 1909?MHz, 1999?MHz, 2063?MHz and 2134?MHz. The metamaterial also enhances the gain of the antenna, which is applicable for several wireless applications. Design results were obtained by a high frequency structure simulator which is used for simulating microwave passive components.  相似文献

We present here dependencies of scattered and absorbed powers of incident perpendicularly and parallel polarized microwaves by a multilayered cylinder. We consider here the normal (angle ??=90°) and oblique (angles ??=60°,30°,5°) incidence of microwave on the cylinder. The one consists of a glass core that is coated by the six anisotropic metamaterial and lossy n-Si semiconductor alternative layers. Characteristics of a cylinder with the semiconductor external layer are presented. The dispersion dependency of n-Si losses was taken into account. The metamaterial is a uniaxial anisotropic medium with the electric and magnetic plasma resonances in the frequency range from 1 until 4?GHz. The anisotropic metamaterial can include the constitutive parameters equal to zero. The multilayered cylinder has the external radius equal to 2?mm. The glass core has a radius equal to 0.5?mm. The thickness of all layers is the same. We have compared the scattered and absorbed power dependencies on the microwave polarization, the angle of microwave incidence (the normal and oblique directions of the incidence to the z-axis), and the n-Si specific resistivity. We discovered specific dependencies of scattered and absorbed powers on the parameters.  相似文献

A design of the two-beam hybrid microwave interferometer for measuring refractive indices of metamaterials is described. It is based on the branching of radiation using a waveguide directional coupler. Radiations of the interferometer waveguide arms are summed and the phase disbalance of the interferometer arms is counted on the waveguide measuring line. The frequency dispersion of the negative refractive indices of the metamaterial samples with a variable distance between its constituent plates is experimentally investigated. A possibility of controlling the refractive index of a metamaterial is demonstrated.  相似文献

提出了一种新的基于磁性吸波体材料的具有低频透射和高频宽带吸收特性的超材料吸波体.该超材料吸波体在1 GHz的透射系数为-0.5 dB,具有较好的低频透射特性,可以实现对低频信号的相互通信;在频率大于8.4 GHz的频段,吸收率均大于80%,基本覆盖整个X波段和Ku波段,实现高频宽带吸收.此外,由于该超材料吸波体的单元金属周期结构具有较好的四重旋转对称性,因而是极化无关的.该透射吸收超材料吸波体设计简单,实用性强,具有较强的潜在应用价值.  相似文献
