Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) data for Undecylammonium chloride (UAC) in heavy water in the presence of NaCl 0.0428 and 0.3422 M are consistent with the presence of elongated micelles. This micellar shape has been adopted to analyze viscosity data of UAC in water in the presence of NaCl. The results obtained from this last technique are consistent with the increase of the micelle aggregation number with increasing the surfactant concentration. Micelles change from prolate ellipsoidal shape to cylindrical and wormlike shapes by increasing the added NaCl concentration and surfactant concentrations. The differences between results for the micelle aggregation number calculated from viscosity, SANS and light scattering data have been attributed to the solvent effect on micelle formation as well as changes in the size, shape and flexibility of the micelle. Viscosity data provide qualitative information on the effect of the added NaCl concentration and surfactant concentration on the size, shape, flexibility of the micelles in diluted solutions.  相似文献

Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements were carried out on sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles in the presence of three different hydrophobic salts, i.e. aniline hydrochloride,o-toluidine hydrochloride andm-toluidine hydrochloride. All these salts induce a uniaxial growth of micelles to form prolate ellipsoidal structures. A progressive decrease in the surface charge of the micelles was observed with the addition of salts followed by a rapid growth of the micelles. The presence of a methyl substitution at the ortho position of aniline does not alter the growth behavior significantly. However, when the substitution is at meta position micellar growth is favored at lower salt concentration than that is observed for aniline. This can be explained in terms of the difference in the chemical environments of the substituents at the ortho and meta positions.  相似文献

A stable mixture of two colloid system composed of double surfactant coated aqueous nanomagnetic fluid and aqueous micellar solution of cationic micelles of cetyletrymethyl ammonium bromide (CTABr) is prepared as a function of nanomagnetic fluid concentration. This mixed system is analyzed using three techniques such as zero field and field induced viscosity measurements, Small Angle Neutron Scattering technique and magneto-optical birefringence measurements. In field induced viscosity measurement it is observed that even 20% magnetic fluid concentration in CTABr aqueous solution shows 75% increase in viscosity compared to pure magnetic fluid. This suggests that in presence of CTABr micelles, a novel magneto rheological effect for low concentration of magnetic fluid is observed. From SANS measurements it is observed that aggregation number and a/b ratio increases with magnetic fluid concentration and magnetic birefringence reveals non-superimpose behavior of normalized field induced retardation. Results of these experiments are compared and indicate zero fields and field induced structural integrity between magnetic particles and soft micelles.  相似文献

Micellar solution of nonionic surfactantn-dodecyloligo ethyleneoxide surfactant, decaoxyethylene monododecyl ether [CH3(CH2)11(OCH2CH2)10OH], C12E10 in D2O solution have been analysed by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) at different temperatures (30, 45 and 60° C) both in the presence and absence of sugars. The structural parameters like micelle shape and size, aggregation number and micellar density have been determined. It is found that the micellar structure significantly depends on the temperature and concentration of sugars. The micelles are found to be prolate ellipsoids at 30° C and the axial ratio of the micelle increases with the increase in temperature. The presence of lower concentration of sugar reduces the size of micelles and it grows at higher concentration of sugar. The structure of micelles is almost independent of the different types of sugars used.  相似文献

Phenol and anisol fluorescence quenching in aqueous micellar solutions is investigated on addition of H 2 O 2. It is established that the efficiency of interaction of the phenol molecule in water with hydrogen peroxide is higher than of anisol. In the phenol-H 2 O 2 system, the buildup of phenol fluorescence occurs in the presence of an anionic-reagent detergent. A decrease in the efficiency of phenol fluorescence quenching by hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solutions in the presence of CTAB and triton X-100 micelles is observed. The micellar media increase the efficiency of interaction of anisol with a quencher in comparison with phenol. __________ Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 4, pp. 73–79, April, 2006.  相似文献

The interaction of a series of cationic dialkyloxacarbocyanine perchlorate (DiOC n ) dyes of different degrees of hydrophobicity with micelles of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), has been studied spectrophotometrically in aqueous solutions. The Benesi–Hildebrand equation was used to calculate binding constants (K b ) of the dyes to surfactant micelles, the fraction of dye bound to the micelles (f mic ), and the standard free-energy change (ΔG 0) for the transfer of dye from the aqueous to micellar phase. It has been shown that the interaction of oppositely charged dye molecules and surfactant micelles is controlled by both electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. A small increase in dye hydrophobicity due to lengthening of the hydrocarbon radical has been shown to cause an abrupt nonlinear increase of the fmic value. This points to a key role of hydrophobic interactions in the binding of dye molecules with the micelles.  相似文献

Small angle neutron scattering studies (SANS) were carried out to understand the formation of third phase in DHDECMP-dodecane-UO2(NO3)2/HNO3 system. It was observed that third phase formation takes place due to the formation of UO2(NO3)2.DHDECMP reverse micelles in the dodecane phase. SANS data obtained were interpreted with particle interaction model using Baxter sticky spheres model.   相似文献

Structural parameters of micelles formed by Triton X-100 in the presence of solubilized anthranilic acid at different pH values was investigated using light scattering and small angle neutron scattering. Analysis of the SANS data indicate that micelles are oblate ellipsoidal in nature with little variation in the dimensions, in the investigated pH range (from 0.5 to 6.0). The interaction potential of the micelles shows a minimum closer to the isoelectric point of anthranilic acid. A similar variation is observed in the cloud point of the micelles with pH. The observed variation in the interaction potential with pH of the micellar solution can be explained in terms of the reversal of charge on anthranilic acid due to shift in the acid-base equilibrium. The variation in interaction potential and cloud point with pH is modelled using Coulombic repulsion of charged molecules at the micelle interface.   相似文献

Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments have been carried out on the micellar solutions containing mixtures of a hydrophobic triblock copolymer (L121, EO5PO68EO5) and a hydrophobic anionic surfactant (AOT, sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulphosuccinate) in water with varying ratio (R) of AOT to L121 for R = 0.15, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.6. It is known that either L121 or AOT alone forms vesicles in water, but in the mixture with appropriate ratio of the two components a thermodynamically stable, isotropic solution of apparently small micelle-like aggregates is formed. We find that these micelles are prolate ellipsoidal.   相似文献

In this paper we report the effect of dicationic ‘gemini’ surfactants (CH3)2C16H33N+? (CH2)m? N+C16H33(CH3)2, 2Br? (where m = 4, 5, 6) on the reaction of ninhydrin with DL ‐tryptophan. The gemini surfactant micellar media are comparatively more effective than their conventional monomeric counterpart cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles. Also, whereas typical rate constant (kψ) increase and leveling‐off regions, just like CTAB, are observed with geminis, the latter produce a third region of increasing kψ at higher concentrations. These subsequent increases are ascribed to changes in micellar morphologies, consistent with changes in 1H NMR line widths. Quantitative kinetic analysis of the rate constant–[surfactant] data has been performed on the basis of modified pseudophase model. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The aqueous solutions of sodium cumene sulfonate (NaCS) and its mixtures with cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) are studied by Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The compositions of mixed micelles are determined using Rubingh's Regular Solution Theory. NaCS when added to CTAB solution leads to the formation of long rod shaped micelles with dramatic increase in the CTAB aggregation number. Its addition to SDS on the other hand results in the formation of smaller mixed micelles where parts of SDS molecules in the micelle are replaced by NaCS molecules. NaCS–SDS mixed micelles prefer elongated ellipsoidal geometry in order to accommodate short NaCS molecules. The FTIR spectroscopy results indicate enhanced ordering of CTAB tails inside the NaCS–CTAB mixed micelles with reduction in the gauche/trans conformer ratio. Addition of NaCS to SDS on the other hand results in decreased ordering of SDS tails, as compared to SDS micelles alone. The chemical shifts observed in 1H NMR spectra of NaCS–SDS and NaCS–CTAB mixture indicate that NaCS resides near the surface of the SDS micelle.  相似文献

Nanoparticles of AgBr were prepared by precipitating AgBr in the water pools of microemulsions consisting of CTAB, n-butanol, isooctane and water. An aqueous solution of AgNO3 added to the microemulsion was the source of Ag+ ions. The formation of AgBr nanoparticles in microemulsions through direct reaction with the surfactant counterion is a novel approach aimed at decreasing the role of intermicellar nucleation on nanoparticle formation for rapid reactions. The availability of the surfactant counterion in every reverse micelle and the rapidity of the reaction with the counterion trigger nucleation within individual reverse micelles. The effect of the following variables on the particle size and size distribution was investigated: the surfactant and cosurfactant concentrations, moles of AgNO3 added, and water to surfactant mole ratio, R. High concentration of the surfactant or cosurfactant, or high water content of the microemulsion favored intermicellar nucleation and resulted in the formation of large particles with broad size distribution, while high amounts of AgNO3 favored nucleation within individual micelles and resulted in small nanoparticles with narrow size distribution. A blue shift in the UV absorption threshold corresponding to a decrease in the particle size was generally observed. Notably, the variation of the absorption peak size with the nanoparticle size was opposite to those reported by us in previous studies using different surfactants.  相似文献

Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements on aqueous solutions of four polyethylene oxide-polypropylene oxide-polyethylene oxide block copolymers (commercially known as Pluronic®)F88, P85, F127 and P123 in the presence of hydrophobic C14Diol (also known as Surfynol® 104) reveal information on micellization, micellar size and micellar transitions. While most hydrophilic F88 (with least PPO/PEO ratio) remained unimers in water at 30°C, other copolymers formed micellar solutions. Surfynol® 104 is sparingly soluble in water to only about ~0.1 wt%, but on addition to pluronic solution, it gets incorporated in the micellar region of block copolymer which leads to increase in aggregation number and transformation of spherical to ellipsoidal micelles. The added diol-induced micellization in F88, though hydrophilic copolymers F88 and F127 did not show any appreciable micellar growth or shape changes as observed for P85 and P123 (which are comparatively more hydrophobic). The SANS results on copolymer pairs with same molecular weight PPO but different % PEO (viz. F88 and P85, F127 and P123) and with same molecular weight PEO but different PPO (F88 and F127) reveal that the copolymer with large PPO/PEO ratio facilitate micellar transition in the presence of diol. An increase in temperature and presence of added electrolyte (sodium chloride) in the solution further enhances these effects. The micellar parameters for these systems were found out using available software and are reported.  相似文献

Abstract

The temperature and concentration dependences of the physicochemical properties of aqueous solutions of the diblock copolymer P43E312 (P = oxypropylene, E = oxyethylene) with solubilized liquid crystal (LC) have been studied using static and dynamic light scattering (SLS and DLS), small‐angle x‐ray scattering (SAXS), and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy. Relaxation time distributions from DLS obtained from inverse Laplace transformation of intensity correlation functions are multimodal, where the two fastest modes are attributed to diblock copolymer unimers and micelles, respectively. The remaining modes at longer decay times reflect the presence of free LC with hydrodynamic radii (R h) of hundreds of nm. The R h of both unimers and micelles were independent of temperature (T), while the hydrodynamic virial coefficient k D and the second virial coefficient, A 2, decreased with increasing T. The UV spectroscopy measurements showed that there is a reduction in the amount of solubilized LC per gram of copolymer (c s) as the copolymer concentration (c p) is increased. The SAXS results agree well with a model of a homogeneous system of polydisperse interacting hard spheres. In solution, both the effective micellar radius of interaction (R eff) and the hard‐sphere micellar radius (R¯s) increase in the presence of LC due to solubilization of the latter in the hydrophobic micellar core. Both SAXS and SLS results show that intermicellar interactions become important at c p > 1% (w/w) at high temperatures [T > the critical micelle temperature (cmt)].  相似文献

Diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) nanoparticles of Sn1−x Er x O2 (x = 0.0, 0.02, 0.04, and 0.1) were prepared by sol–gel method. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed SnO2 rutile structure for all samples with no impurity peaks. The decrease in crystallite size with Er concentration was confirmed from TEM measurements (from 12 to 4 nm). The UV–Visible absorption spectra of Er-doped SnO2 nanoparticles showed blue shift in band gap compared to undoped SnO2. The electron spin resonance analysis of Er-doped SnO2 nanoparticles indicate Er3+ in a rutile lattice and also decrease in intensity with Er concentration above x = 0.02. Temperature-dependent magnetization studies and the inverse susceptibility curves indicated increased antiferromagnetic interaction with Er concentration.  相似文献

A series of single‐chained N‐acyl tyrosine surfactants with varying chain lengths (C10‐C18) and degree of unsaturation, as well as an N‐acyl Gemini tyrosine surfactant with chain length C12, were synthesized, and the structures were confirmed using spectral analysis. The effect of chain length and level of unsaturation on the physicochemical and antibacterial properties of the N‐acyl tyrosine surfactants was evaluated. The C12 derivative displayed the optimum antibacterial activity among the single chain surfactants, and the presence of double bond in the oleoyl derivative enhanced the antibacterial activity over its saturated analogue. The N‐acyl Gemini surfactant displayed the highest antibacterial activity among the series and also showed greater micelle forming ability than its single chain analogue. Mixed micellar behavior of the N‐acyl Gemini surfactant with conventional cationic (CTAB) and anionic (SDS) surfactants in aqueous solution was studied. The negative value of the interaction parameter β12 observed for the N‐acyl Gemini in binary mixture with CTAB surfactant indicated a synergistic interaction within the mixed micellar system. However, the binary mixture with SDS displayed antagonistic behavior. The binary mixture of N‐acyl Gemini surfactant with CTAB displayed better antibacterial activity and foaming properties than with SDS mixtures. Optimum antibacterial activity was observed for N‐acyl Gemini surfactant with mole ratio 0.4 to 0.6 in the CTAB binary mixture, at which the lowest ocular irritation index was observed. Overall, the study showed that the Gemini surfactant in combination with the conventional surfactant CTAB can be used as potential ingredients in detergent and pharmaceutical formulations.  相似文献

Variation of the partition coefficient of cyclohexylacetate (CA) was studied by a differential absorption spectroscopic method as a function of ethanol and (CTAB) cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide concentrations. Approach used was based upon the pseudo-two phase model, including effect of ethanol concentrations on the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of CTAB. Ethanol enhanced micelle formation of CTAB at concentrations below 1% by volume, had a slight inhibitory effect at higher concentrations and totally inhibited at a concentration above 15% by volume.

Various amounts of ethanol were used with a purpose of changing the solubility of CA in water. The differential absorbance (AA), was almost zero at low concentrations of CTAB, however an increase in AA began at a certain concentration of CTAB which can accordingly be assumed to be consistent with CMC of CTAB in the presence of ethanol. As CTAB concentration increased above CMC, ΔA reached a plateau. In this plateau, ΔA can reasonably be interpreted as the saturation of CA in micellar phase.

Plateau values of ΔA decreased with increasing ethanol concentration. This showed that the fraction of CA in the micellar phase depended on the ethanol concentration in terms of changing the solubility. Partition coefficients, Kc, were obtained from the plots of 1/ΔA against 1/[CCA] +[C3 m], which were linear in high CTAB concentrations. It was also seen that as ΔA, Kc decreased when the ethanol percentage were increased. In other words, the lower the solubility of CA in the bulk, the higher the partition coefficient.  相似文献

Thioflavin T (ThT) has been widely employed to detect amyloid fibrils in tissues and recently in presence of SDS micelles. However, the contribution of membranes or micelles to ThT fluorescence has never been investigated. In this paper, we show for the first time that the anionic micellar microenvironment of SDS has a profound impact on the absorption and fluorescence spectra of ThT in sharp contrast to cationic (CTAB) and neutral micelles (Triton X-100 & Tween 20). Unlike CTAB or Triton X-100 or Tween 20 micelles, formation of SDS micelles shifts the λmax for ThT absorption from 412 nm in buffer to 428 nm inside the micelle, with a 28% increase in the peak molar absorptivity and a ∼13 fold increase in ThT fluorescence (λmax = 489 nm). Extending these observations to cell plasma membranes, we show that ThT can quickly enter and appear selectively fluorescent inside mammalian cells like BHK21 and HT29, against a dark background owing to negligible fluorescence from free ThT in aqueous medium. The above results suggest that ThT can be a useful probe for live cell imaging and for selectively labeling micelles on the basis of the charge in the polar headgroup. Spherical micelles in ionic micellar solutions, often aggregate to form spherical, cylindrical or chain-like aggregates on addition of salt to the solution. It is known that the technique of small angle neutron scattering (SANS) can be used to distinguish spherical and cylindrical aggregates. To examine if SANS can be used to distinguish the latter two aggregation processes, we have calculated the angular distribution of scattered neutrons from 0.002 M CTAB solutions. These calculations show that aggregation of CTAB micelles results in large changes in SANS spectra. The shapes of SANS spectra are different for the above three types of aggregates, suggesting that technique of SANS can indeed be used to distinguish the three aggregation processes. The size of the aggregate can also be obtained from such studies.  相似文献

Two classic nonionic surfactants — C14E7 (heptaethylene glycol monotetradecyl ether) and C10E7 (heptaethylene glycol monodecyl ether) were investigated in heavy water solution for concentration c = 0.17% (dilute regime) at different temperatures in the range t = 10–35°C by small angle neutron scattering (SANS) method. In the case of C14E7 surfactant — for all temperatures at c = 0.17% there are two axial ellipsoidal micelles with longer axis 15 nm at 10°C and 49.5 nm at 35°C in investigated solutions. For C10E7 surfactant at the same concentration of solution and temperature — two axial ellipsoidal micelles were observed, too. The longer axis is equal to 7.5 nm at 10°C, 9 nm at 20°C and at 35°C this axis is equal to 12 nm. Micelles of C10E7 nonionic surfactant are smaller than those of C14E7 surfactant in the same experimental conditions.   相似文献
