The influence of surface polaritons (SPs), excited on the external (fast mode) and internal (slow mode) surfaces of a gold film, on the tunneling current of a STM is investigated. The role of the surface polaritons is directly demonstrated by the angular excitation spectra of the induced tunneling current. Possible mechanisms which might give rise to the SP induced change in the tunneling current are discussed. An electromagnetic field of SPs within a tunneling gap is estimated to be surface enhanced in order to explain the value of the induced tunneling current. Images of the polariton induced signal distribution over the sample surface taken by means of different SP modes are compared in order to obtain information on the structure of the internal surface of the film.  相似文献

The energy levels of electrons in a narrow band gap semiconductor microcrystal under the influence of magnetic field are investigated. The confinement potential of microcrystal is approximated as parabolic, and the electron dispersion law is considered within the framework of two-band Kane model. It has been shown that nonparabolicity of dispersion law results in the appearance of the “anharmonic” term in Hamiltonian. The values of magnetic field at which the “anharmonic” term can be considered as perturbation are found. Results of electron energy of nonperturbed Hamiltonian dependencies on values of magnetic field and frequency of microcrystal confinement potential are presented. A comparison of the obtained results with the other cases has been done.  相似文献

Conditions for the existence of a surface polariton at the semiconductor-dielectric interface have been analyzed. With allowance for the gyrotropy and the resonance frequency dispersion of the semiconductor, which manifests itself in an external magnetic field, the dispersion relation, the characteristic frequencies determining the existence region of a surface polariton, the wave fields, and the energy flux distribution in each of the interfacing media have been obtained. A numerical analysis of the influence of the external field and absorption, which lead to the manifestation of nonreciprocal properties of the polariton and to a substantial reconstruction of the spectrum, has been performed.  相似文献

文中提出弛豫媒质中有限束非线性声波方程,并采用微扰法求得由非线性传播畸变产生的高次谐波的一般解.研究表明,对高斯型声波,其谐波畸变解可以解析给出,而且其径向分布始终维持高斯函数.虽然其频散量大小会影响各次谐波的振幅,但其相速的变化却仍与对在频率的小振幅波相同.文中还用Blackstock算子将所得的结果应用于任何吸收-频散媒质,包括只能从经验得到其吸收与频率关系的一些生物媒质.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation has been made of the effect of a drift current, including the electron thermal pressure gradient, on surface polaritons in n-type Si. The polariton propagation and drift current directions are taken to be either parallel or antiparallel. Retardation is included, but damping is neglected. The specular reflection approach of Kliewer and Fuchs is used to obtain the polariton dispersion relation. The results show that the drift current and surface polaritons interact, leading to evanescent waves for certain frequencies. However, no wave amplification is obtained.  相似文献

A theory of the optical surface two-photon small-amplitude breather in a multilayer system of the isotropic and anisotropic left-hand metamaterials, when there are a graphene monolayer (graphene-like twodimensional material) and a transition layer with impurity optical atoms (semiconductor quantum dots), is constructed. It is shown that the system of constitutive equations for two-photon transitions and wave equation for a surface plasmon–polariton TM mode are reduced to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with damping. Explicit analytical expressions for a surface two-photon small-amplitude self-induced transparency breather (0π-pulse) are obtained. It is shown that the optical conductivity of graphene leads to the exponential damping of intensity of a surface two-photon nonlinear wave during the propagation. One- and two-photon small-amplitude breathers in graphene are compared, and it is shown that differences between their parameters are substantial.  相似文献

A study is made into the effect of the nonlinear mechanism of plasma electron heating on the dispersion properties of potential surface waves propagating along the interface between a metal and finite-pressure magnetoactive plasma. An external steady magnetic field is directed normally to the interface. Different mechanisms of electron energy loss are treated in a weak heating approximation. The energy balance equation is used to determine the spatial distribution of the plasma electron temperature under conditions of nonlocal heating. The effect of the plasma parameters on the nonlinear shift of the wavenumber and on the spatial damping factor of surface waves is investigated. The results obtained are valid for both semiconductor and gaseous plasmas.  相似文献

It is shown that during the propagation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) in the system of two touching spheres (or cones) when one is a metal and the other is a semiconductor, the conditions of strong localization of the surface wave are realized. At the point of contact, an essential decrease of the wavelength of the SPP is observed and the diffraction processes do not hinder its localization on the nanometric scale. As a result, wave fields increase anomalously. The considered phenomena open a new possibility to propose the experimental way for exploring the gigantic enhancement of the nonlinear optical response from a rough surface.  相似文献

Abstract

By the use of the reduced Rayleigh equation for the amplitude of a surface plasmon polariton on a one-dimensional randomly rough metal surface that is in contact with vacuum, we calculate the dispersion and damping of the surface electromagnetic wave to the lowest nonzero order in the rms height of the surface. It is found that the frequency of the surface plasmon polariton is depressed by the surface roughness. The attenuation of the surface plasmon polariton in the long wavelength limit is due primarily to its scattering into other surface plasmon polaritons, while in the short wavelength limit it is due primarily to its roughness-induced scattering into volume electromagnetic waves in the vacuum. The energy mean free path of the surface plasmon polariton is shorter on a randomly rough metal surface than it is on a lossy planar metal surface, and the surface plasmon polariton is more tightly bound to a rough surface than to a planar one.  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental study of the surface plasmon–polariton and guided wave plasmon polariton modes is presented for the Sapphire/Ag/Polycarbonate/Air structure. Theoretical results are obtained by solving complex multilayer eigenvalue equations as well as the reflectivity equation for this structure. It is proposed that the mode attenuation can be significantly reduced by inserting a low index dielectric buffer between the metal and the guiding dielectric layer. The dispersion and attenuation curves are generated. Both the surface plasmon and guided wave plasmon polariton modes are studied experimentally. The experimental values of the effective refractive indices agree well with the theoretical values. The electric field profiles are generated and used to examine the nature of modes. After optimization of various parameters the condition for low loss single mode guiding is obtained for the proposed structure. Effect of metal thickness on surface plasmon mode is also discussed. It is inferred that in a properly optimized plasmonic waveguide, the losses can be reduced by a factor of 4.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate surface plasmon (SP) propagation characteristics in a ferrite loaded graphene based waveguide biased by an external magnetic flux density. Propagation lengths and dispersion features of the excited SPs can be actively tailored via applying external electro- and magneto-static bias fields. Nonreciprocal property of the structure risen from magneto-optic behavior of the ferrite is clear, in vicinity of the Larmor frequency, according to the derived dispersion equation. The structure is investigated analytically through basic electromagnetic theory. The results can be utilized in design of nonreciprocal components.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the nonlinear excitation of surface polaritons taking fully into account the damping of the active medium and the finite cross-section of the nonlinear polarization on the interface. This problem is solved using the guided wave calculation techniques where the EM field at the surface polariton frequency is expanded over a complete set of normal modes of the unperturbed interface. Using a “table method” we find that this set includes one guided mode, which is the surface polariton mode, and two classes of radiation modes. The expressions of all these modes are derived and interpreted physically. We then get the expression of the EM field excited at the surface polariton frequency inside and outside the pumped region and show that, in the general case, it is a mixture of all these normal modes. The end of the paper is mainly devoted to the study of the surface term occurring in the expression of the EM field at the surface polariton frequency: we point out the existence of a resonance phenomenon with two kinds of surface polariton modes: the “spatial” one and the “temporal” one. The corresponding dispersion curves, or resonance curves, are given and it is explained how each of them can be obtained experimentally.  相似文献

提出了一种基于等效弹性模量的微裂纹-超声波非线性作用多阶段模型.该模型将微裂纹微观层面的界面几何特征和宏观层面的界面相对运动统一为介观单元弹性模量的变化,利用等效弹性模量表征损伤区域的"应力-应变",然后利用分段函数来描述微裂纹-超声波非线性相互作用,最后通过有限元仿真对波动方程进行求解,验证了模型的有效性,获得了超声波在经过微裂纹后传播的非线性波动规律.仿真结果表明本文提出的模型相比于双线性刚度模型、接触面模型,能更好地体现一个谐波周期内超声波经过微裂纹损伤区域时波形会发生畸变.同时,仿真实验还分析了裂纹倾角、裂纹长度和超声波激励幅值对超声波经过微裂纹后产生的二次和三次谐波的幅值的影响.最后,对比分析了该模型的仿真计算结果与实验测试结果,表明本文提出的多阶段模型与实验测试均能较好地体现微裂纹-超声波非线性作用产生的二次谐波信号,且结果基本一致,验证了模型的有效性.该模型为开展超声波非线性效应定量检测微裂纹提供了一种新的仿真手段.  相似文献

We present novel experimental results demonstrating the coherence properties of the nonlinear emission from semiconductor microcavities in the strong coupling regime, recently interpreted by parametric polariton four-wave mixing. We use a geometry corresponding to degenerate four-wave mixing. In addition to the predicted threshold dependence of the emission on the pump power and spectral blueshift, we observe a phase dependence of the amplification which is a signature of a coherent polariton wave mixing process.  相似文献

本文主要研究表面极化声子的喇曼散射.在探测表面极化声子的衰减全反射方法以及喇曼散射方法的基础上,借鉴了Kretchmann配置的衰减全反射喇曼散射法,提出了Otto配置的衰减全反射喇曼散射法,并以CaF_2单晶体为样品做了一系列实验.同时,本文利用了能量守恒及平行于样品表面的能量守恒关系,利用了格林函数或响应函数所推出的表面极化声子的一般频散关系,理论上给出了CaF_2-空气表面极化声子的一个唯象的频散关系.实验上用特定设计制做的一个样品架对CaF_2样品测定了它与空气界面上的表面极化声子的频散关系,比较结果,理论与实验取得了比较令人满意的一致.  相似文献

Using the Kane model, the wave functions and dispersion laws were obtained for Tamm surface states of electrons and holes arising on the ideal surface of Hg1-xCdxTe crystal in the parabolic and strong nonparabolic limits. The dependence of surface electrons and holes effective masses, in the parabolic limit, is determined from the parameters of the bulk states. The surface states of heavy holes is shown to be unsensitive to the degree of nonparabolicity of the electron spectrum.  相似文献

A rigorous method is presented describing the coupling between an exciton polariton in a halfspace semiconductor and the external driving field. The method is based on density matrix theory. It allows to consider realistic electron-hole interactions, spatial dispersion and extrinsic surface potentials. Without invoking additional boundary conditions or an artificial subdivision of the semiconductor it is shown that the influence of the surface can be isolated from the bulk behaviour. This is accomplished by a symmetric continuation of the restricted configuration space to bulk geometry inspired by the image source method in electrostatics. As a demonstration the solution is worked out for a simplified polariton model. The results are compared with other theories and with experimental reflection spectra.  相似文献

The effect of conduction band nonparabolicity on the linear and nonlinear optical properties such as absorption coefficients, and changes in the refractive index are calculated in the Al0.3Ga0.7As/GaAs heterostructure-based symmetric rectangular quantum well under applied hydrostatic pressure and electric field. The electron envelope functions and energies are calculated in the effective mass equation including the conduction band nonparabolicity. The linear and nonlinear optical properties have been calculated in the density matrix formalism with two-level approximation. The conduction band nonparabolicity shifts the positions of the optical properties and decreases their strength compared to those without this correction. Both the optical properties are enhanced with the applied hydrostatic pressure. While the absorption coefficients are bleached under the combined effect of high pressure and electric field, the bleaching effect is reduced when nonparabolicity is included.  相似文献
