Linearized motion equations for electromagnetic wave field in the external magnetic field have been solved for the PVLAS experiment configuration within the low-energy approximation of quantum electrodynamics. It has been shown that the wave propagation velocity depends on the initial direction of the plane of wave polarization. Dispersion laws corresponding to the waves with mutually perpendicular directions of polarization have been established. The dependence of ellipticity of laser radiation field on initial polarization and the value of the external magnetic field has been obtained. The ellipticity parameter for the configuration of the system used in the PVLAS experiment has been found.  相似文献

The screening of the external magnetic field by magnetic monopoles in spin ice has been considered. The polarization of the magnetic system with moving monopoles has been shown to result in the incomplete screening of the external magnetic field. The static permeability of spin ice and the magnetic-field screening length have been calculated and numerically estimated and the physical meaning of introducing monopoles is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of different distortions arising in nanostructures and of external fields on polarization of radiation has been studied. Occurrence of linear polarization of photoluminescence in a magnetic field applied in the plane of a structure containing a CdTe/CdMnTe quantum well has been considered. The influence of a magnetic field on the effects of optical orientation and optical alignment of excitons and trions in self-assembled CdSe/ZnSe quantum dots has been investigated. Analysis of the experimental data reveals low symmetry of the structures studied. It is shown that the distribution of the anisotropy axes in the plane of nanostructures is nearly random.  相似文献

A phenomenological Landau theory has been used to explain magnetic field-driven polarization flop in TbMnO 3. The Néel wall-like magnetic structure in spiral multiferroics induces a space-dependent internal magnetic field which exerts a torque on spins to rotate bc-spiral to ab-spiral. The external magnetic field is argued to be competing with easy axis anisotropy and the system stabilizes when anisotropy is minimum. With the help of Landau free energy with DM magnetoelectric coupling and a general ansatz for magnetization, the phenomenon of polarization flop has been explained. Relation between Tflop and critical magnetic field has been established and found to be in good agreement with the experiment. This could be an indication that anisotropy of the system is temperature- and magnetic field-dependent.  相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics of a spherical magnetic particle and an ensemble of such particles in an external oscillating magnetic field have been studied analytically and numerically in terms of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. The exact analytical formulas have been obtained allowing the calculation of the projections of the mean-in-time magnetization of the system on the frequency of an external field and initial orientation of magnetic moments. The behavior of the system in the limiting cases of low and high frequencies has been considered. The analytical solutions obtained agree well with the direct numerical calculations of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. The analytical theory of the effect of the nonlinear dynamic polarization has been developed, and its applicability for designing devises of magnetic memory has been discussed.  相似文献

The unusual behaviour of the optical polarization degree of 29Si nuclei as a function of the illumination time has been found in silicon single crystals heavily doped with gadolinium. The effect of an external magnetic field on the process of optical nuclear polarization has been studied. It has been shown that the presence of second phase precipitations in heavily doped silicon leads to the complex unexponential establishment of the optical nuclear polarization degree with illumination time.  相似文献

The interaction of the light with propagating axial torsion fields in the presence of an external magnetic field has been investigated. Axial torsion fields appearing in higher derivative quantum gravity possess two states, with spin one and zero, with different masses. The torsion field with spin-0 state is a ghost that can be removed if its mass is infinite. We investigate the possibility when the light mixes with the torsion fields resulting in the effect of vacuum birefringence and dichroism. The expressions for ellipticity and the rotation of light polarization axis depending on the coupling constant and the external magnetic field have been obtained.  相似文献

The role of an external magnetic field via the ion polarization drift effect has been investigated theoretically on the dust-Coulomb crystal formation in a dusty plasma in the presence of continuous ion flows from the bulk plasma to the sheath. The effects of the ions polarization drift on the strength and the effective lengths of the static Debye shielding potential and the oscillatory dynamical potential are clearly demonstrated.  相似文献

While efficient nuclear polarization has earlier been reported for the charged exciton in InAs/GaAs quantum dots at zero external magnetic field, we report here on a surprisingly high degree of circular polarization, up to ≈60%60%, for the neutral exciton emission in individual InAs/GaAs dots. This high degree of polarization is explained in terms of the appearance of an effective nuclear magnetic field which stabilizes the electron spin. The nuclear polarization is manifested in experiments as a detectable Overhauser shift. In turn, the nuclei located inside the dot are exposed to an effective electron magnetic field, the Knight field. This nuclear polarization is understood as being due to the dynamical nuclear polarization by an electron localized in the QD. The high degree of polarization for the neutral exciton is also suggested to be due to separate in-time capture of electrons and holes into the QD.  相似文献

A change in the character of the electric switching of polydomain ferroelectric–ferroelastic gadolinium molybdate in an external magnetic field has been detected. This change has been attributed to a magnetically stimulated increase in the pinning of domain walls. Under certain conditions, the loop of switchable polarization is degenerated into an ellipse characteristic of a linear insulator with leakage current.  相似文献

We theoretically study the thermoelectric transport properties in a quantum dot system with two ferromagnetic leads, the spin-flip scattering and the external magnetic field. The results show that the spin polarization of the leads strongly influences thermoelectric coefficients of the device. For the parallel configuration the peak of figure of merit increases with the increase of polarization strength and non-collinear configuration trends to destroy the improvement of figure of merit induced by lead polarization. While the modulation of the spin-flip scattering on the figure of merit is effective only in the absence of external magnetic field or small magnetic field. In terms of improving the thermoelectric efficiency, the external magnetic field plays a more important role than spin-flip scattering. The thermoelectric efficiency can be significantly enhanced by the magnetic field for a given spin-flip scattering strength.  相似文献

Chemical nuclear polarization in photolysis of aqueous solutions of cyclopentanone has been studied. The products of the photolysis of liquid and frozen solutions have been determined. Kinetic investigations were carried out at different temperatures. The influence of an external magnetic field (0.37 T) and of a gradient magnetic field produced by barium hexaferrite and Nd15Fe62.5B5.5Co16Al1 plates has been revealed. The exchange bias phenomenon has been investigated in multiferroic Eu0.75Y0.25MnO3. The material shows a weak ferromagnetism with cone spin configuration induced by external magnetic field below 30 K. Consequently, the electric polarization coming from the cycloid spin order below 30 K can be suppressed by external magnetic fields. The magnetic hysteresis loops after cooling in a magnetic field exhibit characteristics of exchange bias below the spin glassy freezing temperature (Tg)∼16 K. The exchange bias field, coercivity field, and remanent magnetization increase with increasing cooling magnetic field. The exchange bias effect is ascribed to the frozen uncompensated spins at the antiferromagnetism/weak ferromagnetism interfaces in the spin-glass like phase.  相似文献

We study the Ruderman–Kittle–Kasuya–Yosida (RKKY) interaction in doped armchair graphene nanoribbon. The effects of both external magnetic field and electron-Holstein phonon on RKKY interaction have been addressed. RKKY interaction as a function of distance between localized moments has been analyzed. It has been shown that a magnetic field along the z-axis mediates an anisotropic interaction which corresponds to a XXZ model interaction between two magnetic moments. In order to calculate the exchange interaction along arbitrary direction between two magnetic moments, we should obtain both transverse and longitudinal static spin susceptibilities of armchair graphene nanoribbon in the presence of electron-phonon coupling and magnetic field. The spin susceptibility components are calculated using the spin dependent Green’s function approach for Holstein model Hamiltonian. The effects of spin polarization on the dependence of exchange interaction on distance between moments are investigated via calculating correlation function of spin density operators. Our results show the influences of magnetic field on the spatial behavior of in-plane and longitudinal RKKY interactions are different in the presence of magnetic field.  相似文献

We have studied the peculiarities of diffraction of light in magnetic photonic crystals at large values of magnetooptical activity parameter and modulation depth. We have considered the case of an arbitrary angle between the directions of the external static magnetic field and the normal to the layer. The problem has been solved by the modified Ambartsumyan layer summation method. It has been shown that the given system is nonreciprocal with respect to not only circular, but linear polarizations also. In this case, a new type of nonreciprocity is observed (namely, the relation R(α) ≠ R(–α) holds, where R is the reflection coefficient and α is the angle of incidence). It has been demonstrated that in the case of oblique incidence, there appears a new photonic forbidden band that is not selective relative to the polarization of incident light. We have detected strong dependences of reflectance, absorbance, transmittance nonreciprocity, and other characteristics on the angle between the direction of the external static magnetic field and the normal to the layer boundary. Such a system can be used as a controllable polarization filter and a mirror, as well as a source of circular (elliptic) polarization, a controllable optical diode, and so on.  相似文献

A magneto-optic modulator with a magnetic fluid film inserted into an optical fiber Sagnac interferometer is proposed. The magnetic fluid exhibits variable birefringence and Faraday effect under external magnetic field that will lead to a phase difference and polarization state rotation in the Sagnac interferometer. As a result, the intensity of the output light is modulated under the external magnetic field. Moreover, the modulator has a high extinction ratio and can easily be integrated in a single-mode fiber system. The performance of the modulator is not affected by ambient temperature variation from room temperature to 40 °C.  相似文献

The uniaxial deformation, varying the wave functions and energies of acceptor sublevels, leads to an essential change in the polarization of hot photoluminescence in semiconductors. The polarization characteristics of photoluminescence caused by recombination of hot and thermalized electrons with the holes bound at shallow-level acceptors with the simultaneous effect of the external magnetic field and uniaxial deformation have been calculated. It has been shown that the comparison of theoretical and experimental results will make it possible to refine some parameters of impurities in crystals.  相似文献

The relationship between magnetic order and ferroelectric properties has been investigated for MnWO4 with a long-wavelength magnetic structure. Spontaneous electric polarization is observed in an elliptical spiral spin phase. The magnetic-field dependence of electric polarization indicates that the noncollinear spin configuration plays a key role for the appearance of the ferroelectric phase. An electric polarization flop from the b direction to the a direction has been observed when a magnetic field above 10 T is applied along the b axis. This result demonstrates that an electric polarization flop can be induced by a magnetic field in a simple system without rare-earth 4f moments.  相似文献
