The temperature dependence of the concentration of magnetic monopoles in spin ice has been analyzed. It has been shown that magnetic Coulomb interaction between monopoles can lead to a temperature-induced stepwise increase in their concentration by several orders of magnitude. This first-order phase transition is also accompanied by a decrease in the relaxation time by several orders of magnitude and can be considered as the melting of the Coulomb phase of spin ice. The phase diagram, as well as the critical point, has been determined.  相似文献

This work makes a theoretical study of the dynamics of emergent elemental excitations in artificial spin ice systems with hexagonal geometry during the magnetic reversion of the system. The magnetic and physical parameters of the nanoislands that form the array are considered as variables in the study. The parameters considered are: the energy barrier for the inversion of each nanoisland, the magnetic moment of the nanomagnets and the possible disorder in the sample. Our results show that the reversion dynamic presents two distinct mechanisms of magnetic reversion, with different elemental excitations for each mechanism. The first mechanism presents a reversion with the appearance of magnetic monopoles that do not move in the samples (heavy monopoles) and the absence of Dirac chains. In the other mechanism elemental magnetic excitations (light monopoles) appear that move great distances in the sample, giving rise to extensive Dirac chains during the magnetic reversion.  相似文献

Artificial spin ice has been recently implemented in two-dimensional arrays of mesoscopic magnetic wires. We propose a theoretical model of magnetization dynamics in artificial spin ice under the action of an applied magnetic field. Magnetization reversal is mediated by domain walls carrying two units of magnetic charge. They are emitted by lattice junctions when the local field exceeds a critical value Hc required to pull apart magnetic charges of opposite sign. Positive feedback from Coulomb interactions between magnetic charges induces avalanches in magnetization reversal.  相似文献

The observation of isolated positive and negative charges, but not isolated magnetic north and south poles, is an old puzzle. Instead, evidence of effective magnetic monopoles has been found in the abstract momentum space. Apart from Hall-related effects, few observable consequences of these abstract monopoles are known. Here, we show that it is possible to manipulate the monopoles by external magnetic fields and probe them by universal conductance fluctuation measurements in ferromagnets with strong spin-orbit coupling. The observed fluctuations are not noise, but reproducible quasiperiodic oscillations as a function of magnetization direction, a novel Berry phase fingerprint of the magnetic monopoles.  相似文献

The colossal magnetoresistance effect in magnetic semiconductors based on lanthanum manganites has been investigated in terms of the model allowing for the effects of p-d hybridization and electronelectron Coulomb correlations. The influence of an external magnetic field on spin fluctuations has been considered under the conditions where the chemical potential is in a narrow heavy-fermion band formed in the hybridization gap. It has been shown that, in the vicinity of the Curie point T C, the strong spin anharmonicity leads to an anomalously strong suppression of spin fluctuations by the external magnetic field, a phenomenon contributing significantly to the formation of colossal negative magnetoresistance.  相似文献

We investigate theoretically electron transfer in a double dot in a situation where spin blockade is lifted by nuclear magnetic field: this has been recently achieved in experiment [F. Koppens, Science 309, 1346 (2005)]. We show that for a given realization of nuclear magnetic field spin blockade can be restored by tuning external magnetic field; this may be useful for quantum manipulation of the device.  相似文献

Theory predicts the low temperature magnetic excitations in spin ices consist of deconfined magnetic charges, or monopoles. A recent transverse-field (TF) muon spin rotation (μSR) experiment [S.?T. Bramwell et al., Nature (London) 461, 956 (2009)] reports results claiming to be consistent with the temperature and magnetic field dependence anticipated for monopole nucleation-the so-called second Wien effect. We demonstrate via a new series of μSR experiments in Dy(2)Ti(2)O(7) that such an effect is not observable in a TF μSR experiment. Rather, as found in many highly frustrated magnetic materials, we observe spin fluctuations which become temperature independent at low temperatures, behavior which dominates over any possible signature of thermally nucleated monopole excitations.  相似文献

研究了两量子比特的海森堡XXX自旋链分别处于x方向和y方向均匀外磁场时系统的纠缠特性,并用负度N来度量。得到纠缠度N的解析表达式,并在此基础上进行数值计算。仔细讨论了磁场B、温度T和自旋耦合系数J对纠缠度N的影响。结果表明:纠缠度N会随着磁场|B|和温度T的增大而减小,但会随着自旋耦合系数J的增大而增大。另外,增大的J还会使临界磁场|Bc|和临界温度Tth变大。所以,我们可以通过调节B、T和J来控制热纠缠,这对固态系统中通过构建和选择参数调整系统的纠缠度具有一定的作用和意义。研究还发现,加在x方向均匀外磁场和加在y方向均匀外磁场对两量子比特的海森堡XXX自旋链的作用效果是一样的。  相似文献

Energy spectrum and degeneracy associated with bound states of monopoles and dyons in non-Abelian gauge theory has been investigated and it is shown that energy levels expand due to the presence of additional degeneracies. Splitting of energy level of dyonium in presence of external magnetic and electric field has also been analyzed confirming the presence of additional degeneracy levels of the system. In addition, the study of behaviour of a fermion moving in the field of non-Abelian dyon in moduli space under SU(2) gauge potential has been undertaken and energy eigen values for the system are carried out. Detailed analysis of relativistic correction in fermion-dyon system in moduli space is presented and angular momentum operators of the system are derived, which demonstrates that besides the contribution of Higgs field, the interaction of spin and orbital angular momentum of moving fermion also contributes to the energy operator.  相似文献

One of the most basic properties of magnetism is that a magnet always has two poles, north and south, which cannot be separated into isolated poles, i.e. magnetic monopoles. There are strong theoretical arguments why magnetic monopoles should exist, but in spite of extensive searches they have never been found. This article gives an introduction to theoretical and experimental aspects of magnetic monopoles and discusses their role in our understanding of fundamental physics, both historically and today.  相似文献

The spin configurations in the absence of an external magnetic field have been systematically investigated for a magnetic bilayer system consisting of two ferromagnetic layers separated by a non-magnetic layer with interlayer exchange coupling. Based on a phenomenological model, the conditions for the existence of collinear and non-collinear spin structures were derived for three kinds of magnetic bilayers with different combinations of in-plane cubic and uniaxial anisotropies for the two ferromagnetic layers. The phase diagrams of the spin configurations at zero field were drawn, taking into account the lowest-order anisotropy parameters of both the ferromagnetic layers. The values of the canting angle have been derived analytically and then numerically plotted.  相似文献

The interaction of the light with propagating axial torsion fields in the presence of an external magnetic field has been investigated. Axial torsion fields appearing in higher derivative quantum gravity possess two states, with spin one and zero, with different masses. The torsion field with spin-0 state is a ghost that can be removed if its mass is infinite. We investigate the possibility when the light mixes with the torsion fields resulting in the effect of vacuum birefringence and dichroism. The expressions for ellipticity and the rotation of light polarization axis depending on the coupling constant and the external magnetic field have been obtained.  相似文献

The spin structure of the (37,35) energy level of antiprotonic helium-4 in permanent homogenous external magnetic field has been calculated in first order of perturbation theory. For weak magnetic fields the effect is observed as an additional broadening of the spectral lines. For magnetic fields of the order of kG and higher, the magnetic and hyperfine interactions become comparable to each other, and the hyperfine spectrum is rearranged.  相似文献

In this article we study the effect of external magnetic field and electric field on spin transport in bilayer armchair graphene nanoribbons (GNR) by employing semiclassical Monte Carlo approach. We include D'yakonov-Perel' (DP) relaxation due to structural inversion asymmetry (Rashba spin-orbit coupling) and Elliott-Yafet (EY) relaxation to model spin dephasing. In the model we neglect the effect of local magnetic moments due to adatoms and vacancies. We have considered injection polarization along z-direction perpendicular to the plane of graphene and the magnitude of ensemble averaged spin variation is studied along the x-direction which is the transport direction. To the best of our knowledge there has been no theoretical investigation of the effects of external magnetic field on spin transport in graphene nanoribbons. This theoretical investigation is important in order to identify the factors responsible for experimentally observed spin relaxation length in graphene GNRs.  相似文献

The exploitation of the spin in charge-based systems is opening revolutionary opportunities for device architecture. Surprisingly, room temperature electrical transport through magnetic nanowires is still an unresolved issue. Here, we show that ferromagnetic (Co) suspended atom chains spontaneously display an electron transport of half a conductance quantum, as expected for a fully polarized conduction channel. Similar behavior has been observed for Pd (a quasimagnetic 4d metal) and Pt (a nonmagnetic 5d metal). These results suggest that the nanowire low dimensionality reinforces or induces magnetic behavior, lifting off spin degeneracy even at room temperature and zero external magnetic field.  相似文献

Analytical methods to investigate the interaction of magnetic monopoles with known magnetic media have been developed. Trapping energies of monopoles inside ferro-magnetic or super onducting materials of size greater than about 10−6 cm are found to be of the order of several kiloelectron volts. These are two to three orders of magnitude higher than in paramagnetic materials. Thus if stable magnetic monopoles exist at all in the universe, they are perhaps trapped in these magnetic materials. The effect of the finite size of the magnetic bodies is taken into account explicitly in our calculations of the trapping energy.  相似文献

In this work, the magnetic properties of the single layer Ising nanogaphene (SLING) are investigated by using Kaneyoshi approach (KA) within the effective field theory for different spin orientations of its magnetic atoms. We find that the magnetizations of the SLING has no phase transition, certain Curie temperature and distinct peak of susceptibility at Tc for the some spin orientations at the zero external magnetic field (H=0.0). Because these behaviors occur at H≠0.0, we suggest that the SLING generates an external magnetic field and behaves as an external magnetic field generator for these spin orientations. However, the SLING exhibits ferromagnetic behaviors for only one spin orientations. But, it exhibits antiferromagnetic behaviors for the others. For the AFM cases, diamagnetic susceptibility behaviors and type II superconductivity hysteresis behaviors are obtained. We hope that these results can open a door to obtain new class of single layer graphene and graphene-based magnetic field generator devices with the spin orientation effect.  相似文献

Ambient magnetic fields are thought to play a critical role in black hole jet formation. Furthermore, dual electromagnetic signals could be produced during the inspiral and merger of binary black hole systems. In this paper, we derive the exact solution for the electromagnetic field occurring when a static, axisymmetric binary black hole system is placed in the field of two magnetic or electric monopoles. As a by-product of this derivation, we also find the exact solution of the binary black hole configuration in a magnetic or electric dipole field. The presence of conical singularities in the static black hole binaries represent the gravitational attraction between the black holes that also drag the external two monopole field. We show that these off-balance configurations generate no energy outflows.  相似文献

Using the 27 kG magnetic field produced by a superconducting solenoid we have searched for trapped magnetic monopoles in a magnetite sample from North China. We hvve scanned the nuclear emulsion both for low ionizing tracks and heavily ionizing tracks, and polycarbonate track detectors for heavily ionizing tracks of magnetic monopoles. We obtained a 90% confidence level upper limit of 1.8×10−26 monopoles per nucleon in the magnetite sample.  相似文献
