We present a formalism to study adiabatic pumping through a superconductor-normal-superconductor weak link. At zero temperature, the pumped charge is related to the Berry phase accumulated, in a pumping cycle, by the Andreev bound states. We analyze in detail the case when the normal region is short compared to the superconducting coherence length. The pumped charge turns out to be an even function of the superconducting phase difference. Hence, it can be distinguished from the charge transferred due to the standard Josephson effect.  相似文献

In this paper,we study the time-dependent Aharonov-Casher effect and its corrections due to spatial noncommutativity.Given that the charge of the infinite line in the Aharonov-Casher effect can adiabatically vary with time,we show that the original Aharonov-Casher phase receives an adiabatic correction, which is characterized by the time-dependent charge density.Based on Seiberg-Witten map,we show that noncommutative corrections to the time-dependent Aharonov-Casher phase contains not only an adi...  相似文献

Pumping of charge (Q) in a closed ring geometry is not quantized even in the strict adiabatic limit. The deviation form exact quantization can be related to the Thouless conductance. We use the Kubo formalism as a starting point for the calculation of both the dissipative and the adiabatic contributions to Q. As an application we bring examples for classical dissipative pumping, classical adiabatic pumping, and in particular we make an explicit calculation for quantum pumping in case of the simplest pumping device, which is a three site lattice model. We make a connection with the popular S-matrix formalism which has been used to calculate pumping in open systems.  相似文献

Cooper pair pumping is a coherent process. We derive a general expression for the adiabatic pumped charge in superconducting nanocircuits in the presence of level degeneracy and relate it to non-Abelian holonomies of Wilczek and Zee. We discuss an experimental system where the non-Abelian structure of the adiabatic evolution manifests in the pumped charge.  相似文献

Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) in its current adiabatic implementations exhibits three remarkable failures: (a) completely wrong behavior of the excited state surface along a bond-breaking coordinate; (b) lack of doubly excited configurations; (c) much too low charge transfer excitation energies. These TDDFT failure cases are all strikingly exhibited by prototype two-electron systems such as dissociating H2 and HeH+. We find for these systems with time-dependent density matrix functional theory that: (a) Within previously formulated simple adiabatic approximations, the bonding-to-antibonding excited state surface as well as charge transfer excitations are described without problems, but not the double excitations; (b) An adiabatic approximation is formulated in which also the double excitations are fully accounted for.  相似文献

We report a theoretical study on producing electrically spin-polarized current in the Rashba ring with parallel double dots embedded, which are subject to two time-dependent microwave fields. By means of the Keldysh Green's function method, we present an analytic result of the pumped current at adiabatic limit and demonstrate that the interplay between the quantum pumping effectand spin-dependent quantum interference can lead to an arbitrarily controllable spin-polarized current in the device. The magnitude and direction of the charge and spin current can be effectively modulated by system parameters such as the pumping phase difference, Rashba precession phase, and the dynamic phase difference of electron traveling in two arms of ring; moreover, thespin-polarization degree of the charge current can also be tuned in the range [-∞, +∞]. Our findings may shed light on the all-electric way to produce the controllable spin-polarized charge current in the field of spintronics.  相似文献

The two-site Holstein model represents a first non-trivial paradigm for the interaction between an itinerant charge with a quantum oscillator, a very common topic in different ambits. Exact results can be achieved both analytically and numerically, nevertheless it can be useful to compare them with approximate, semi-classical techniques in order to highlight the role of quantum effects. In this paper we consider the adiabatic limit in which the oscillator is slower than the electron. A density matrix approach is introduced for studying the charge dynamics and the exact results are compared with two different approximations: a Born-Oppenheimer-based Static Approximation for the oscillator (SA) and a Quantum-classical (QC) dynamics.  相似文献

We revisit the protocols to create maximally entangled states between two Josephson junction (33) charge phase qubits coupled to a microwave field in a cavity as a quantum data bus. We analyze a novel mechanism of quantum decoherence due to the adiabatic entanglement between qubits and the data bus, the off-resonance microwave field. We show that even if the variable of the data bus can be adiabatically eliminated, the entanglement between the qubits and data bus remains and can decohere the superposition of two-particle state. Fortunately we can construct a decoherencefree subspace of two-dimension to against this adiabatic decoherence. To carry out the analytic study for this decoherence problem, we develop Frohlich transformation to re-derive the effective Hamiltonian of these systems, which is equivalent to that obtained from the adiabatic elimination approach.  相似文献

We study an adiabatic evolution that approximates the physical dynamics and describes a natural parallel transport in spectral subspaces. Using this we prove two folk theorems about the adiabatic limit of quantum mechanics: 1. For slow time variation of the Hamiltonian, the time evolution reduces to spectral subspaces bordered by gaps. 2. The eventual tunneling out of such spectral subspaces is smaller than any inverse power of the time scale if the Hamiltonian varies infinitly smoothly over a finite interval. Except for the existence of gaps, no assumptions are made on the nature of the spectrum. We apply these results to charge transport in quantum Hall Hamiltonians and prove that the flux averaged charge transport is an integer in the adiabatic limit.  相似文献

We investigate the Berry phase of adiabatic quantum evolution in the atom-molecule conversion system that is governed by a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We find that the Berry phase consists of two parts: the usual Berry connection term and a novel term from the nonlinearity brought forth by the atom-molecule coupling. The total geometric phase can be still viewed as the flux of the magnetic field of a monopole through the surface enclosed by a closed path in parameter space. The charge of the monopole, however, is found to be one third of the elementary charge of the usual quantized monopole. We also derive the classical Hannay angle of a geometric nature associated with the adiabatic evolution. It exactly equals minus Berry phase, indicating a novel connection between Berry phase and Hannay angle in contrast to the usual derivative form.  相似文献

In the tight-binding random Hamiltonian on Z d , we consider the charge transport induced by an electric potential which varies sufficiently slowly in time, and prove that it is almost surely equal to zero at high disorder. In order to compute the charge transport, we adopt the adiabatic approximation and prove a weak form of adiabatic theorem while there is no spectral gap at the Fermi energy.  相似文献

We investigate charge pumping in carbon nanotube quantum dots driven by the electric field of a surface acoustic wave. We find that, at small driving amplitudes, the pumped current reverses polarity as the conductance is tuned through a Coulomb blockade peak using a gate electrode. We study the behavior as a function of wave amplitude, frequency, and direction and develop a model in which our results can be understood as resulting from adiabatic charge redistribution between the leads and quantum dots on the nanotube.  相似文献

We investigate the adiabatic quantum pump phenomena in a semiconductor with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit couplings (SOCs). Although it is driven by applying spin-independent potentials, the system can pump out spin-dependent currents, i.e., generate nonzero charge and spin currents at the same time. The SOC can modulate both the magnitude and the direction of currents, exhibiting an oscillating behavior. Moreover, it is shown that the spin current has different sensitivities to two types of the SOC. These results provide an alternative method to adjust pumped current and might be helpful for designing spin pumping devices.  相似文献

Quantum adiabatic pumping of charge and spin between two reservoirs (leads) has recently been demonstrated in nanoscale electronic devices. Pumping occurs when system parameters are varied in a cyclic manner and sufficiently slowly that the quantum system always remains in its ground state. We show that quantum pumping has a natural geometric representation in terms of gauge fields (both Abelian and non-Abelian) defined on the space of system parameters. Tunneling from a scanning tunneling microscope tip through a magnetic atom could be used to demonstrate the non-Abelian character of the gauge field.  相似文献

Superconducting nanocircuits are macroscopic solid-state systems that exhibit quantum-coherent dynamics. In particular it is possible to design such circuits that display the behavior of few-level systems. It is an interesting question whether the scheme of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) can be transferred to these systems. Here we discuss various possibilities to achieve quantum control with this powerful method for devices in the charge regime and assess the effect of decoherence on their functionality.  相似文献

We have investigated pumping in quantum dots from the perspective of non-Abelian (matrix) Berry phases by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation exactly for adiabatic changes. Our results demonstrate that a pumped charge is related to the presence of a finite matrix Berry phase. When consecutive adiabatic cycles are performed the pumped charge of each cycle is different from that of the previous ones.  相似文献

In Thouless pump, the charge transport in a one-dimensional insulator over an adiabatic cycle is topologically quantized. For nonequilibrium initial states, however, interband coherence will induce a previously unknown contribution to Thouless pumping. Though not geometric in nature, this contribution is independent of the time scale of the pumping protocol. In this work, we perform a detailed analysis of our previous finding [H.L. Wang et al., Phys. Rev. B 91, 085420 (2015)] in an already available cold-atom setup. We show that initial states with interband coherence can be obtained via a quench of the system’s Hamiltonian. Adiabatic pumping in the post-quench system are then examined both theoretically and numerically, in which the interband coherence is shown to play an important role and can hence be observed experimentally. By choosing adiabatic protocols with different switching-on rates, we also show that the contribution of interband coherence to adiabatic pumping can be tuned. It is further proposed that the interband coherence induced correction to Thouless pumping may be useful in capturing a topological phase transition point. All our results have direct experimental interests.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate adiabatic charge and spin pumping through interacting quantum dots using non-equilibrium Green's function techniques and the equation-of-motion method. We treat the electronic correlations inside the dot using a Hartree-Fock approximation and succeed in obtaining closed analytic expressions for the Keldysh Green's functions. These allow us to compute charge and spin currents through the quantum dot. Depending on the parameters of the quantum dot and its coupling to the reservoirs, we show that it can be found in two different regimes: the magnetic regime and the non-magnetic regime. In the magnetic regime we find a non-vanishing spin current in addition to the charge current present in both cases.  相似文献

We have realized a tunable coupling over a large frequency range between an asymmetric Cooper pair transistor (charge qubit) and a dc SQUID (phase qubit). Our circuit enables the independent manipulation of the quantum states of each qubit as well as their entanglement. The measurement of the charge qubit's quantum states is performed by an adiabatic quantum transfer from the charge to the phase qubit. The measured coupling strength is in agreement with an analytic theory including a capacitive and a tunable Josephson coupling between the two qubits.  相似文献

The electron‐mediated coupling of external electromagnetic fields and Raman‐active oscillations is derived for a general electronic model with multiple bands using the adiabatic approach and the explicit diagrammatic approach. The theory is illustrated on the quasi‐one‐dimensional (Q1D) quarter‐filled charge‐density‐wave (CDW) model. It is shown how the long‐range Coulomb forces and the single‐electron relaxation processes affect the Raman spectroscopy of the amplitude‐oscillation mode in clean CDW systems. It is also argued that the adiabatic treatment of the photon‐phonon coupling functions can be safely used in this case. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
