Steering light into logic patterns with two-dimensional cascaded multimode waveguide is demonstrated. By employing the imaging properties of 2D multimode interference (MMI) and partial phase modulation method, the design ideas and the implementing methods of the 2(2×2) bits type spatial logic steering are discussed; therefore the structure of logical pattern is proposed. Numerical simulation is carried out to verify the design in detail by using the beam propagation method. It is expected to realize logic coders by using the integrated optical methods and exploit their potential applications in the field of optical logic.  相似文献

将耦合波导列应用于光子晶体单模波导,提出一种提高光辐射的光子晶体结构. 基于时域有限差分方法的理论研究表明,当将耦合波导列附加到单模光子晶体波导出口端的适当位置,使出射光分成若干强弱不一的光束,这些光束在传播空间通过干涉形成一定程度的汇聚,大大提高了光子晶体波导在水平方向的光辐射效率. 另外,当耦合波导列的行数大于某固定值(2N=8)时,辐射质量基本保持不变,由此可获得最紧凑的器件结构. 这种类型光子晶体在近场光学和集成光学等诸多方面有潜在的应用价值. 关键词: 光子晶体波导 光辐射 波导列 耦合波导  相似文献

We propose a beam steering type optical switch employing a phase shifter. It consists of collimating waveguide mirrors, an arrayed-waveguide which has deep trenches incorporating polymer materials, and input/output waveguides. The incident light is guided to the front mirror, where it is then collimated, and input to the arrayed waveguide. The number of trenches filled with polymer linearly increases in order. The refractive index of the polymer can be controlled with temperature, and the propagation direction of the output light from the arrayed waveguide can also be controlled. A switch with 15 waveguides in the array has been fabricated. The chip size is about 2:5 × 9:0 mm2, the insertion loss is 10 dB, and the extinction ratio is about 10–13 dB.  相似文献

A novel device, MAGICTRAC, is described for efficient conversion at millimeter wavelengths of the TE m,n whispering-gallery mode into a linearly polarized, free-space Gaussian-like beam. MAGICTRAC uses a mode-converting waveguide taper and three mirror optics, one of which incorporates a twist reflector to linearly polarize the output beam. An example design is presented for the TE15,2 mode at 140 GHz with a calculated efficiency of 96%. Related possible applications include (1) installation of the MAGICTRAC within the vacuum envelope of a gyrotron to separarate the spent e-beam from the generated rf, (2) generation of a whispering-gallery mode by injection of a Gaussian-like beam into the output end, and (3) conversion of TE m,n modes into TE0n modes for low-loss transmission in smooth-wall waveguide.Work performed by LLNL for USDOE under contract W-7405 ENG-48.  相似文献

An acoustooptic (AO) deflector/modulator using a single-mode crossed-channel waveguide of 2n type and an interdigital transducer is fabricated in aY-Z LiNbO3 substrate. This module has shown a high diffraction efficiency. A 50% diffraction efficiency and a bandwidth of 13.4 MHz were obtained with 0.13 W of surface-acoustic wave power centered at 320MHz. Since the cross section of the channel waveguide and that of the optical fiber are comparable, the interfacting of the resultant acoustooptic devices with fiber optical systems would greatly simplified. In addition, the frequency-shifted optical beam can be conveniently used as a reference signal or local oscillator in heterodyne detection. Consequently, this cross-channel acoustooptic device should find a variety of applications in realizing an integrated-optics module with a 50–50% power slit, optical communication, and an optical fiber system. One of those applications, optical gyroscopes, is proposed by using this kind of crossed-channel AO device.  相似文献

Systematic investigations of the width dependence on the x‐ray beam propagation mechanism for a narrow extended slit formed by two plane dielectric plates are presented. It is shown that the mechanism of a multiple consecutive total reflection for Cu Kα radiation dominates in a slit width range s ≥ 3 µm. At the same time the manner of Cu Kα radiation propagation for super‐narrow slits s ≤ 0.1 µm is very different from the multiple total reflection mechanism. The x‐ray beam intensity proves to be constant for all this range of magnitude. This gives grounds to expect that the super‐narrow slit area is characterized by a specific type of mechanism of x‐ray beam propagation: waveguide‐resonance. A simple model for the waveguide‐resonance propagation mechanism based on the formation of a uniform x‐ray standing wave interference field in the total space of a narrow extended slit was developed. The design of a new x‐ray optical device, namely a planar x‐ray waveguide‐resonator, is proposed based on the waveguide‐resonance mechanism. Some properties of the composite planar x‐ray waveguide‐resonator are discussed. It is shown that under specific conditions the composite waveguide can demonstrate a partial tunneling effect of the x‐ray beam. The main applications of the new technique are discussed. Passing across an abrupt junction from a thick vertically bimodal waveguide to a thinner single mode segment, guided light can undergo complete destructive interference, provided that the geometry and the phases of the modes in the initial segment are properly adjusted. We propose to employ this effect to realize a simple polarizer configuration, using a strip that is etched from a planar waveguide. A beam of light is made to pass the strip perpendicularly. The light enters from the single mode waveguide outside the strip into the strip segment, which is configured to support two modes. At the end of the strip, apart from reflections, the amount of power that is guided in the following lower segment depends on the local phases of the two modes. These phases are different for TE and TM light, hence we may expect a polarization dependent power transfer, resulting in polarizer performance for a properly selected geometry. The paper describes in detail the modeling of the device in terms of rigorous mode expansion. Design guidelines and tolerance requirements for geometric and material parameters are discussed. For typical Si3N4/SiO2 materials, our calculations predict a peak performance of 34 dB polarization discrimination and 0.3 dB insertion loss for a device with a total length of about 12 m that selects TE polarization at a wavelength of 1.3 m.  相似文献

Thermodynamic optimization of waveguide sensors is considered. A waveguide geometry is shown to improve the detection ability of a sensor device by a factor of (NA)2/N relative to a thin-film analyzer with a transverse excitation, NA being the numerical aperture of the waveguide and N being the density of species to be detected. For ultralow densities of species, the sensitivity of a waveguide sensor is shown to be orders of magnitude higher than the sensitivity of a thin-film analyzer.  相似文献

Abstract

In terms of the coupled mode theory, formulas of the transfer function and the output power gain are presented for an Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped parallel-cascaded double microring resonator. Around the pump wavelength of 0.98 μm and the central signal wavelength of 1.55 μm, analysis is performed for the dependence of the output power gain on the pump power, signal power, dopant concentration, amplitude coupling ratio, and ring spacing. The results show that the output power gain of this device is much larger than that of the Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped waveguide amplifier with identical waveguide lengths. In the case of the amplitude coupling ratio κ = 0.064, ring spacing L2 = 10π R, pump power Pp0 = 8 mW, signal power Ps0 = 37.2 μW, Er3+ ion concentration NEr = 1 × 26 m?3, and Yb3+ ion concentration NYb = 3 × 27 m?3, the device can produce higher signal power gain from 11.9 dB even up to 70 dB.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the dynamic behavior and modal analysis of a micro-optomechatronic device with primary applications to force sensing and optical attenuation/coupling. The system consists of two initially aligned micro-cantilevers with a narrow gap between them. The light beam enters to the first waveguide and, after propagation along it, couples to second waveguide through the mentioned narrow gap. The externally static or dynamic applied force on the first micro-cantilever deflects it and results in reduced optical coupling between the two waveguides. Changes in this factor are measured to give the properties of the applied force.  相似文献

We study the statistics of the reflectance (the ratio of reflected and incident intensities) of an N-mode disordered waveguide with weak absorption g per mean free path. Two distinct regimes are identified. The regime γ N 2≫1 shows universal fluctuations. With increasing length L of the waveguide, the variance of the reflectance changes from the value 2/15N 2, characteristic for universal conductance fluctuations in disordered wires, to another value 1/8N 2, characteristic for chaotic cavities. The weak-localization correction to the average reflectance performs a similar crossover from the value 1/3N to 1/4N. In the regime γ N 2≫1, the large-L distribution of the reflectance R becomes very wide and asymmetric, P(R)∝(1−R)−2 for R≪1−γN. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. We present an analytical and numerical investigation of the propagation of spatial solitons in a nonlinear waveguide with ramp linear refractive index profile (ramp waveguide). For the propagation of a single soliton beam in a ramp waveguide, the particle theory shows that the soliton beam follows a parabolic curve in the region where the linear refractive index increases and a straight line outside the waveguide. The acceleration of the soliton depends on the beam intensity: higher amplitude solitons experience higher acceleration. Numerical calculations using an implicit Crank–Nicolson scheme confirm the result of the particle theory. Combining these propagation properties with the theory about bound-N-soliton, we study the break up of such a bound-N-soliton in a ramp waveguide. In a ramp waveguide, a bound-N-soliton will always be splitted into N independent solitons with the higher amplitude soliton emitted first. The amplitude of the separated solitons after break up are calculated using the soliton theory as if the solitons are independent. Numerical simulations show that the results agree quite well with this theoretical prediction, indicating that the interaction during break up has only little influence.  相似文献

A survey on the properties and applications of the beam plasma discharge is given. A device for the experimental investigation of this discharge is described in which a magnetically guided (H = 0.05?0.1 T), ribbonlike electron beam (eU = 0.5–5 KeV, I = 10?3?1 A) passes through a working chamber (p = 0.1–10 Pa; l = 10 cm, ø = 22 cm). The beam plasma discharge is sustained by collective beam plasma interaction. First results concerning the wall current and the ignition of the discharge as dependent on beam parameters are presented.  相似文献

We describe an algorithm for using a confocal microscope for tracking single fluorescent particles diffusing in three dimensions. The algorithm uses a standard confocal setup and directly translates each fluorescence measurement into an actuator command. Through physical simulations, we illustrate 3-D tracking in both stage scanning and beam scanning confocal systems. The simulated stage scanning system achieved tracking of particles diffusing in 3-D with coefficients up to 0.2 μm2/s when the average fluorescence intensities was less than 1.84 counts per measurement cycle (corresponding to less than 18,400 counts per second) in the presence of background fluorescence with a rate of 5,000 counts per second. Increasing the fluorescence intensity to approximately 193 counts per measurement cycle (1,930,000 counts per second) allowed the system to track up to particles diffusing with coefficients as large as 0.7 μm2/s. The beam steering system allowed for faster motion of the focal volume of the microscope and successfully tracked particles diffusing with coefficients up to 0.7 μm2/s with fluorescence measurement intensities of approximately 0.189 counts per measurement cycle (37,570 counts per second) and with coefficients up to 90 μm2/s when the fluorescence intensity was increased to 19 counts per measurement cycle (3,807,500 counts/sec).  相似文献

Both phosphorescent materials and devices, which emit red and green light, already have great performance and breakthrough. The biggest challenge and bottleneck is the blue phosphorescent device, if we want to popularize phosphorescent organic light-emitting device (OLED) in the full-color panel. This paper brings a new quantum-well structure in light-emitting layer. We select the commonly used phosphor materials, N,N′-dicarbazoly-2,5-benzene (mCP) and bis(3,5-difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl)iridium(III) (FIrpic). The structure of the device is indium-tin oxide (ITO)/N,N′-bis(naphthalene-1-y1)-N,N′-bis(phenyl)-benzidine (NPB)/di-[4-(N,N-ditolyl-amino)-phenyl]cyclohexane (TAPC)/mCP/FIrpic/mCP/4,7-dipheny1-1,10-phenanthroline (Bphen)/Mg:Ag. The blue OLED of good performance is achieved by adjusting the thickness of FIrpic. When the thickness of FIrpic is 0.2 nm and the Current density is 34.86 mA/cm2, the results show that the luminance of the device is 1000 cd/m2, then the luminous power efficiency of the device is 6.01 lm/W. Meanwhile, the light emitting mechanism of ultrathin quantum-well structure is well studied, the quantum confinement effect and the role of quantum well structure as the light-emitting layer in the blue phosphorescent devices are mainly analyzed.  相似文献

Abstract

Two LiNbO3 (X and Y cut) crystals from different companies were implanted by 3.0 MeV Er ions to a dose of 7.5 × 1014 ions/cm2 and 3.5 × 1014 ions/cm2 with different beam current densities, respectively. After annealing at 1060°C in air for 2 hours, one LiNbO3 sample was implanted by 1.5 MeV He ions to a dose of 1.5 × 1016 ions/cm2. The Rutherford backscattering/channeling and prism coupling method have been used to study the damage and optical properties in implanted LiNbO3. The results show: (1) the damage in LiNbO3 created by 3.0 MeV Er ions depends strongly on the beam current density; (2) after annealing at 1060°C in air for 2 hours, a good Er doped LiNbO3 crystal was obtained; (3) there is waveguide formation possible in this Er-doped annealed LiNbO3 after 1.5 MeV He ion implantation. It is suggested that annealing is needed to remove the damage created by MeV Er ions before the MeV He ion implantation takes place, to realize the waveguide laser for Er doped LiNbO3.  相似文献

The accuracy of laser-induced incandescence (LII) measurements is significantly influenced by the calibration process and the laser profile degradation due to beam steering. Additionally, the wavelength used for extinction measurements, needed for LII calibration, is critical and should be kept as high as possible in order to avoid light absorption by molecular species in the flame. The influence of beam steering on the LII measurement was studied in turbulent sooting C2H4/air flames at different pressures. While inhomogeneities in the laser profile become smoothed out in time-averaged measurements, especially at higher pressure, the corresponding single-shot beam profiles reveal an increasing effect of beam steering. In the current configuration it was observed that the resulting local laser fluence remains within certain limits (30% to 200%) of the original value. A sufficiently high incident laser fluence can thus prevent the local fluence from dropping below the LII threshold value of approximately 0.3 J/cm2 at the cost of increased soot surface vaporization. A spatial resolution in the dimension of the sheet thickness of below 1 mm cannot be guaranteed at increased pressure of 9 bars due to beam steering. A feasibility study in a combustor at technical conditions demonstrates the influence of both effects beam steering and choice of calibration wavelength and led to the conclusion that, however, a shot-to-shot calibration of LII with simultaneously measured extinction can be realized.  相似文献
