Discrete dislocation plasticity simulations are carried out to investigate the static frictional response of sinusoidal asperities with (sub)-microscale wavelength. The surfaces are first flattened and then sheared by a perfectly adhesive platen. Both bodies are explicitly modelled, and the external loading is applied on the top surface of the platen. Plastic deformation by dislocation glide is the only dissipation mechanism active. The tangential force obtained at the contact when displacing the platen horizontally first increases with applied displacement, then reaches a constant value. This constant is here taken to be the friction force. In agreement with several experiments and continuum simulation studies, the friction coefficient is found to decrease with the applied normal load. However, at odds with continuum simulations, the friction force is also found to decrease with the normal load. The decrease is caused by an increased availability of dislocations to initiate and sustain plastic flow during shearing. Again in contrast to continuum studies, the friction coefficient is found to vary stochastically across the contact surface, and to reach locally values up to several times the average friction coefficient. Moreover, the friction force and the friction coefficient are found to be size-dependent.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to an experimental and theoretical investigation of the static friction force between a rapidly oscillating sample and a steel plate. The static frictional force is studied experimentally as function of the oscillating amplitude, the normal force and the contact geometry. A simplest model of tangent contact with a constant friction coefficient is proposed and shows a good agreement with experiment. The static friction force is proved to be a universal function of the ratio of the oscillation amplitude, the indentation depth and to the friction coefficient.  相似文献

It is known that the coefficient of friction generally depends on a large number of system and loading parameters. Already Coulomb presented experimental evidence that the static coefficient of friction may depend on time, on normal force, on the contact size, on the nature of contacting materials, and on the presence of intermediate lubricant layers. For the sliding coefficient of friction, he observed the dependence on the sliding velocity as well as the force and size dependencies. Later research has shown that the friction coefficient is very sensitive to the presence of oscillations (including self-excited vibrations). In spite of the practical importance of the problem, no generalized laws of friction or empirical procedures for measuring and representing the law of friction have been developed so far, which included at least the following four parameters: contacting body velocity, normal force, shape (and thus implicitly size), and time. In the present paper, we discuss the question of how the dimension of space of governing parameters can be reduced and if a small set of “robust governing parameters” of friction can be identified. We argue that one of such robust governing parameters is the indentation depth (or relative approach) of contacting bodies and discuss further candidates for the role of robust governing parameters.  相似文献

The grazing bifurcation, stick phenomena and periodic motions in a periodically forced, nonlinear friction oscillator are investigated. The nonlinear friction force is approximated by a piecewise linear, kinetic friction model with the static force. The total forces for the input and output flows to the separation boundary are introduced, and the force criteria for the onset and vanishing of stick motions are developed through such input and output flow forces. The periodic motions of such an oscillator are predicted analytically through the corresponding mapping structure. Illustrations of the periodic motions in such a piecewise friction model are given for a better understanding of the stick motion with the static friction. The force responses are presented, which agreed very well with the force criteria. If the fully nonlinear friction force is modeled by several portions of piecewise linear functions, the periodically forced, nonlinear friction oscillator can be predicted more accurately. However, for the fully nonlinear friction force model, only the numerical investigation can be carried out.  相似文献

The dependence of static friction on surface roughness was measured for copper oxide nanowires on silicon wafers coated with amorphous silicon. The surface roughness of the substrate was varied to different extent by the chemical etching of the substrates. For friction measurements, the nanowires (NWs) were pushed by an atomic-force microscope (AFM) tip at one end of the NW until complete displacement of the NW was achieved. The elastic bending profile of a NW during this manipulation process was used to calculate the ultimate static friction force. A strong dependence of static friction on surface roughness was demonstrated. The real contact area and interfacial shear strength were estimated using a multiple elastic asperity model, which is based on the Derjaguin–Muller–Toporov (DMT) contact mechanics. The model included vertical elastic flexure of NW rested on high asperities due to van der Waals force.  相似文献

基于一维Frenkel-Kontorova模型, 研究了振动的基底势对系统纳米摩擦现象的影响. 分别在相邻原子间的距离与周期势场的周期比为不公度(incommensurate)、可公度(commensurate)两种情形下, 探讨了基底势振动的振幅和频率对滞回现象(hysteresis)、最大静摩擦力以及超滑现象的作用机理. 两种情形下, 固定频率, 随着振幅的增大, 滞回区域的面积以及最大静摩擦力都将减小, 对于不同的频率, 减小的趋势不同. 系统甚至产生了超滑现象. 但当频率过大时, 振幅的改变不会影响滞回区域的面积以及最大静摩擦力的大小, 此时与基底不加振动时的情形一致; 当振幅固定, 随着频率的增大, 滞回区域的面积将增大, 对于不同振幅, 增大的趋势不同. 特别地, 对于某些固定的振幅, 最大静摩擦力随着振动频率的增大先逐步减小直至出现超滑现象, 再进一步增大频率, 最大静摩擦力又转而逐步增大. 这一现象类似于共振, 表明存在最佳的振动频率促进系统内所有原子的共同运动, 使得整个系统的最大静摩擦力几乎消失. 另外, 两种情形的区别是, 对于某些固定的频率(如ω= 0.5)和不同的小振幅, 不可公度情形往往具有相同的平均终止速度, 而可公度情形则不同, 表明相同前提下后者具有更复杂的动力学行为. 关键词: Frenkel-Kontorova模型 滞回 最大静摩擦力 超润滑  相似文献

By using the molecular dynamic simulation method with a fourth-order Runge--Kutta algorithm, a two-dimensional dc- and ac-driven Frenkel--Kontorova (FK) model with a square symmetry substrate potential for a square lattice layer has been investigated in this paper. For this system, the effects of many different parameters on the average velocity and the static friction force have been studied. It is found that not only the amplitude and frequency of ac-driven force, but also the direction of the external driving force and the misfit angle between two layers have some strong influences on the static friction force. It can be concluded that the superlubricity phenomenon appears easily with a larger ac amplitude and lower ac frequency for some special direction of the external force and misfit angle.  相似文献

A study was made of elastoplastic deformation In surface layers caused by normal and tangential forces. A definite relationship is shown to exist between the external friction force and elastoplastic deformation. Maximum elastoplastic deformation arises in the contact zone when static friction is replaced by moving friction. The effect of an external bias voltage and spatial variations of the surface potential on the damping of cantilever vibrations in an atomic force microscope (AFM) is considered. The damping is due to an electrostatic friction that arises due to dissipation of the energy of an electromagnetic field generated in the sample by oscillating static charges induced on the surface of the AFM probe tip by the bias voltage or spatial variations of the surface potential. A similar effect appears when the tip is oscillating in an electrostatic field created by charged defects present in the dielectric sample. The electrostatic friction is compared to the van der Waals (vdW) friction between closely spaced bodies, which is caused by a fluctuating electromagnetic field related to the quantum and thermal fluctuations of current density inside the bodies. It is shown that the electrostatic friction and the vdW friction can be strongly enhanced in the presence of dielectric films or two-dimensional (2D) structures—such as a 2D electron system or an incommensurate layer of adsorbed ions exhibiting acoustic oscillations—on the probe tip and sample surfaces. It is also shown that the damping of cantilever oscillations caused by the electrostatic friction in the presence of such 2D structures can have the same order of magnitude and the same dependence on the distance as observed in experiment by Stipe et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 096801 (2001)]. At small distances, the vdW friction can be large enough to be measured in experiment. In interpreting the experimental data that obey a quadratic dependence on the bias voltage, one can reject a phonon mechanism according to which the friction depends on the fourth power of the voltage.  相似文献

通过实验研究了圆棒在颗粒物质中受到的摩擦力与颗粒填充高度及棒径的关系.观测到摩擦力随颗粒高度和棒径而增大.用连续介质模型推导了摩擦力公式,与实验观测基本一致.结果表明,摩擦力和棒径成正比;当颗粒高度很小时,摩擦力与颗粒高度平方成正比;而当颗粒堆积很高时,摩擦力与高度成正比,即静摩擦力与接触面积成正比. 关键词: 颗粒物质 摩擦力  相似文献

 在温度标定和围压标定的基础上,采用轴压循环方法,对3 GPa固体介质三轴高温高压实验系统的轴压摩擦力进行了标定,分析了围压、温度、轴向位移速率、装样方式(盐套类型)等实验条件对轴压摩擦力的影响。结果表明:静摩擦力、挤压摩擦力和滑动摩擦力3种轴压摩擦力对轴向应力的影响不同,其中静摩擦力和挤压摩擦力对轴向应力的影响很小,影响应力精度的主要是滑动摩擦力。静摩擦力及滑动摩擦力与围压正相关;静摩擦力与轴向位移速率正相关,但受其影响较小,滑动摩擦力不受其影响;静摩擦力和滑动摩擦力与温度负相关,并且受其影响较显著;盐套类型对轴压摩擦力的影响较大,当实验条件接近盐套熔点时,轴压摩擦力显著降低,当样品周围的盐套处于熔融状态时,轴压摩擦力最小。基于此,确定了标定轴压摩擦力的具体步骤,并对角闪岩的应力-应变曲线进行了轴压摩擦力标定。对比轴压摩擦力校正前、后的应力-应变曲线发现,经过轴压摩擦力校正的应力-应变曲线能更好地反映样品的实际变形情况。  相似文献

Wearless dry friction of an elastic block of weight N, driven by an external force F over a rigid substrate, is investigated. The slider and substrate surfaces are both microscopically rough, interacting via a repulsive potential that depends on the local overlap. The model reproduces Amontons’s laws which state that the friction force is proportional to the normal loading force N and independent of the nominal surface area. In this model, the dynamic friction force decays for large velocities and approaches a finite static friction for small velocities if the surface profiles are self-affine on small length scales.  相似文献

A novel method for in situ measurement of the static and kinetic friction is developed and demonstrated for zinc oxide nanowires (NWs) on oxidised silicon wafers. The experiments are performed inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with a nanomanipulator with an atomic force microscope tip as a probe. NWs are pushed by the tip from one end until complete displacement is achieved, while NW bending is monitored by the SEM. The elastic bending profile of a NW during the manipulation process is used to calculate the static and kinetic friction forces.  相似文献

The forces needed to overcome static friction and move 150 nm diameter Au nanoparticles on an oxidized Si substrate were measured in Normal and Shear oscillation modes inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM) in real time. The experimental setup consisted of a quartz tuning fork (QTF) mounted onto a high-precision 3D nanomanipulator used with a glued silicon or tungsten tip as a force sensor. Static friction was found to range from tens of nN to several hundred nN. Large variations in static friction values were related to differences in particle shape. Kinetic friction tended to be close to the detection limit and in most cases did not exceed several nN. The influence of thermal treatment in reducing the static friction of nanoparticles was considered.  相似文献

从圆柱体在斜面上的基本受力分析入手,推导圆柱体沿斜面运动过程中的发生滚动的临界角及滚动摩擦系数的关系式。并通过简单的实验装置测定了铁质圆柱体与玻璃的滚动摩擦系数和静摩擦系数分别约为0.0921和0.121。理论与实验结果基本符合,表明该实验方法对于测定静摩擦系数和滚动摩擦系数的有效性,也为力学基本问题的研究提供了方法。  相似文献
