In this paper, carbon fibers with improved thermal stability and oxidation resistive properties were prepared and evaluated their physical performances under oxidation condition. Carbon fibers were coated with SiC particles dispersed in a polyacrylonitrile solution and then followed by pyrolyzed at 1400 °C to obtain the SiC nanoparticle deposition on the surface of the carbon fiber. The SiC coated carbon fiber showed extended oxidation resistive property as remaining 80-88% of the original weight even at high temperature 1000 °C under air, as compared with the control of zero weight at 600 °C. The effects of the coating conditions on the oxidation resistive properties of the coated fibers were studied in detail.  相似文献

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and few-walled carbon nanotubes (FWCNTs) have been selectively synthesized by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at a relative low temperature (550 °C) by tuning the thickness of iron catalyst. The parametric study and the optimization of the nanotube growth were undertaken by varying inductive power, temperature, catalyst thickness, and plasma to substrate distance. When an iron film of 3-5 nm represented the catalyst thickness for growing FWCNT arrays, SWCNTs were synthesized by decreasing the catalyst thickness to 1 nm. The nanotubes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Electron field emission properties of the nanotubes indicate that the SWCNTs exhibit lower turn-on field compared to the FWCNTs, implying better field emission performance.  相似文献

Flame synthesis of carbon nanotubes for panel field emission lamp   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized on the surfaces of Ni-alloy plated Fe-wires with the diameter of 2 mm using a conventional laboratory ethanol (C2H5OH) flame method at 560 °C. SEM showed that the product had bush-shaped micron-structures with diameters from 100 to 450 nm and lengths of over 1.0 μm. TEM revealed that the micron-structures were composed of multi-walled nanotube bundles with the diameters of about 50 nm. The test on the diode configuration field emission of the Fe-wire arrays was performed. The onset electric field was 2.95 V/μm and the emission current can reach 50 mA/cm2 at an electric field of 9 V/μm. The average fluctuation of the emission current density was less than 7%. The result suggests that the field emission was uniform and the present technique was feasible to fabricate Panel Field Emission Lamp (PFEL) with arrays of carbon nanotubes. PFEL has the advantages of high luminescence as well as stability, and thus, it can be used to replace ordinary lights.  相似文献

We successfully fabricated field emitter arrays of carbon nanotube (CNT) dots of 10 μm diameter with excellent field emission properties by using photosensitive CNT paste. The CNT paste was investigated in terms of morphologies, current-voltage properties, and luminous uniformities by varying the mixing ratios of micro and nanoparticle inorganic fillers and the amount of CNTs added into the paste. The 3:1 mixing of micro and nanoparticle fillers and the addition of 5% CNTs in the paste brought about the best field emission characteristics of dot-patterned CNT field emitter arrays.  相似文献

Stable, transparent and superhydrophobic carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposite films were fabricated by one-step spray casting process using the polystyrene functionalized CNTs, which were prepared by “living” free-radical polymerization and analyzed by means of infrared spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis. The CNT film has a high water contact angle of 160° and a sliding angle of less than 3°. The surface topography of the fabricated film was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The transparency of the CNT film was investigated by UV–vis spectroscopy. The result shows that the CNT film has light transmittance of about 78% in the visible light region.  相似文献

An optimized strategy was developed for fast growth of millimeter-long CNT arrays using chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Growth temperature of 800 °C was firstly determined, and catalyst heat treatment conditions were then optimized to probe the full potential of growth rate. 1.5 mm long CNT arrays were obtained in 10 min under optimized growth and catalyst heat treatment conditions. The growth rate of CNT arrays strongly depends on the growth temperature and catalyst heat treatment. Insufficient reduction could not reduce iron oxide into metallic state or/and crack down catalyst film into particles, but excessive treatment may result in large particles due to Ostwald ripening process. This method would offer more freedoms in designing the fast growth of high-purity, long CNT arrays.  相似文献

Multiwalled carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays were grown by catalytic thermal decomposition of acetylene, over Fe-catalyst deposited on Si-wafer in the temperature range 700-750 °C. The growth parameters were optimized to obtain dense arrays of multiwalled CNTs of uniform diameter. The vertical cross-section of the grown nanotube arrays reveals a quasi-vertical alignment of the nanotubes. The effect of varying the thickness of the catalyst layer and the effect of increasing the growth duration on the morphology and distribution of the grown nanotubes were studied. A scotch-tape test to check the strength of adhesion of the grown CNTs to the Si-substrate surface reveals a strong adhesion between the grown nanotubes and the substrate surface. Transmission electron microscopy analysis of the grown CNTs shows that the grown CNTs are multiwalled nanotubes with a bamboo structure, and follow the base-growth mechanism.  相似文献

This paper investigates the surface treatment of screen-printed carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters using a 248 nm (KrF) excimer laser. The field emission characteristics of the CNT emitters are measured following irradiation using laser fluences ranging from 80 to 400 mJ/cm2. The results show that the turn-on electric field, the current density, and the distribution of the emission sites are highly dependent on the value of the laser fluence and are optimized at a fluence of 150 mJ/cm2. Two distinct laser fluence regimes are identified. In the low fluence regime, i.e. 80-150 mJ/cm2, the surface treatment process is dominated by a photo ablation mechanism, which results in the gradual removal of the binding material from the cathode surface and leads to an improvement in the emission characteristics of the CNT cathodes with an increasing fluence. However, in the high fluence regime, i.e. 150-400 mJ/cm2, the thermal ablation mechanism dominates; resulting in a removal of the CNTs from the cathode surface and a subsequent degradation in the emission characteristics.  相似文献

Highly hydrophilic cotton fabrics were rendered superhydrophobic via electrostatic layer-by-layer assembly of polyelectrolyte/silica nanoparticle multilayers on cotton fibers, followed with a fluoroalkylsilane treatment. The surface morphology of the silica nanoparticle-coated fibers, which results in the variety of the hydrophobicity, can be tailored by controlling the multilayer number. Although with the static contact angle larger than 150°, in the case of 1 or 3 multilayers, the fabrics showed sticky property with a high contact angle hysteresis (>45°). For the cotton fabrics assembled with 5 multilayers or more, slippery superhydrophobicity with a contact angle hysteresis lower than 10° was achieved. The buoyancy of the superhydrophobic fabric was examined by using a miniature boat made with the fabric. The superhydrophobic fabric boat exhibited a remarkable loading capacity; for a boat with a volume of 8.0 cm3, the maximum loading was 11.6 or 12.2 g when the boat weight is included. Moreover, the superhydrophobic cotton fabric showed a reasonable durability to withstand at least 30 machine washing cycles.  相似文献

New aspects on pulsed laser deposition of aligned carbon nanotubes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have grown carbon nanotubes (CNT) by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at 1000 °C in Ar atmosphere. A Nd/YAG laser was used for irradiation of a graphite target containing Ni and Co rods. High-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that “closed” carbon nanotubes were grown between clusters of metallic particles, so that the individual nanotubes were arranged in parallel to each other forming a shape of “Rope-Bridge”. The nanotubes structure was analyzed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and their type was found to be of MWNT, containing about five SWNT. Total diameter was 5-20 nm and their length was about 1 μm. High homogeneous distribution carbon nanotubes were grown and different structures were observed such as well-aligned carbon nanotubes, bamboo-like and Y-junction carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

This paper firstly reports that cupric oxide nanowires (CNWs) were synthesized by thermal oxidation of copper coated carbon fibers (Cu/CFs). The results of transmission electron microscope images indicate that the nanowires are about 50 nm in diameter and several microns in length. The optimum growth conditions of the nanowires are found when the film of Cu/CFs is annealed at 400 °C for 4 h in air. The results show that the reflectivity of cupric oxide-nanowire-covered carbon fibers (1-1.3 mm in thickness) is less than −4 dB over the range of 8.6-18 GHz. Furthermore, the possible growth mechanism of CNWs is discussed.  相似文献

Properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity or the expansion behaviour of silver matrix composites with carbon based inclusions are strongly affected by the contact angle between carbon and silver. In order to promote wetting of carbon, insertion of metallic interlayers such as nickel, cobalt or molybdenum is a feasible approach. This paper presents contact angle measurements done with the sessile drop method on carbon substrates (glassy carbon, polycrystalline graphite) and on pure nickel, cobalt and molybdenum foils. The ability of these interlayer elements to lower the high contact angles of silver on glassy carbon (117°) and polycrystalline graphite (124°) under vacuum conditions was verified. Unlike nickel (30°) and cobalt (26°), molybdenum (107°) nevertheless was not wettable by liquid silver (at 1273 K) under vacuum conditions. ToF-SIMS was used to identify oxygen on the surface, causing higher contact angles than expected. After oxide reduction a contact angle of 18° on molybdenum was detected. Furthermore, the influence of carbon diffusion on the contact angle was investigated by gas phase carburization of the metal foils. ToF-SIMS and XRD identified dissolved carbon (Ni, Co) and carbide formation (Mo). However, only nickel and cobalt showed a slight decrease of the contact angle due to carbon uptake.  相似文献

Using our approach previously reported, we have fabricated relatively large area micro-gated-field emission arrays with carbon nanotube (CNT) grown on Mo tips. By redesigning the device and fabrication processes, the percentage of single CNTs increased to about 50-70% with a substantial improvement in leakage current between gate and cathode and gate interceptive current. The I-V measurement of a 11000 cell array at a gate to cathode voltage of 92 V showed an anode current of 1.2 mA, corresponding to a current density of 0.57 A/cm2, with a gate current only 3.3% of the anode current.  相似文献

Short aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were intercalated grown among vermiculite layers from ethylene using a simple fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The length of CNTs ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 μm after a synthesizing duration of 1-5 min at 650 °C. The as-grown CNTs vertically aligned to the vermiculite layers were with the mean outer and inner diameter of 6.7 and 3.7 nm, respectively. A CNT yield of 0.22 g/gcat was obtained for a 5-min growth. Those indicated that the fluidized bed CVD was an effective way for mass production of short CNTs.  相似文献

A carbon nanotube (CNT) tip, which assembled on the sharp end of a Si tip by dielectrophoresis, was structurally modified using focused ion beam (FIB). We described the imaging characterization of the FIB-modified CNT tip in noncontact AFM mode in terms of wear, deep trench accessibility, and imaging resolution. Compared to a conventional Si tip, the FIB-modified CNT tip was superior, especially for prolonged scanning over 10 h. We conclude that modified CNT tips have the potential to obtain high-quality images of nanoscale structures.  相似文献

Polarization behaviors of carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers with different twisting were reported. Scanning electron microscope and polarized Raman spectroscopy were used to investigate the prepared samples. Results indicate that surface twisting angle affects greatly the polarization angle and I///I ratio of twisted CNT fibers. Raman depth profile measurements imply that the twisted fibers consist of non‐uniform CNT alignments. A simplified two‐CNT‐alignment geometric model was proposed to illuminate the experimental observations. The results suggest that polarized Raman depth profile measurement would be a very useful approach for determining the distribution of CNT alignments in CNT fibers. Iron, cobalt and a mixture of iron and cobalt incorporated mesoporous MCM-41 molecular sieves were synthesised by hydrothermal method and used to investigate the rules governing their nanotube producing activity. The catalysts were characterised by XRD and N2 sorption studies. The effect of the catalysts has been investigated for the production of carbon nanotubes at an optimised temperature 750 °C with flow rate of N2 and C2H2 is 140 and 60 ml/min, respectively for a reaction time 10 min. Fe-Co-MCM-41 catalyst was selective for carbon nanotubes with low amount of amorphous carbon with increase in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) yield at 750 °C. Formation of nanotubes was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscope and Raman spectrum was used to follow the quality and nature of carbon nanotubes formed and the graphitic layers and disordered band, which shows the clear evidence for the formation of SWNTs, respectively. The result propose that the diameter of the nanotubes in the range of 0.78-1.35 nm. Using our optimised conditions for this system, Fe-Co-MCM-41 showed the best results for selective SWNTs with high yield when compared with Fe-MCM-41 and Co-MCM-41.  相似文献

Boron nitride (BN) coatings were deposited on carbon fibers by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using borazine as single source precursor. The deposited coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. The effect of temperatures on growth kinetics, morphology, composition and structure of the coatings was investigated. In the low temperature range of 900 °C-1000 °C, the growth rate increased with increasing temperature complying with Arrhenius law, and an apparent active energy of 72 kJ/mol was calculated. The coating surface was smooth and compact, and the coatings uniformly deposited on individual fibers of carbon fiber bundles. The growth was controlled by surface reaction. At 1000 °C, the deposition rate reached a maximum (2.5 μm/h). At the same time, the limiting step of the growth translated to be mass-transportation. Above 1100 °C, the growth rate decreased drastically due to the occurrence of gas-phase nucleation. Moreover, the coating surface became loose and rough. Composition and structure examinations revealed that stoichiometric BN coatings with turbostratic structure were obtained below 1000 °C, while hexagonal BN coatings were deposited above 1100 °C. A penetration of carbon element from the fibers to the coatings was observed.  相似文献

Electrodeposition was employed to fabricate magnetite (Fe3O4) coated carbon fibers (MCCFs). Temperature and fiber surface pretreatment had a significant influence on the composition and morphology of Fe3O4 films. Uniform and compact Fe3O4 films were fabricated at 75 °C on both nitric acid treated and untreated carbon fibers, while the films prepared at 60 °C were continuous and rough. Microwave measurements of MCCF/paraffin composites (50 wt.% of MCCFs, pretreated carbon fibers as deposition substrates) were carried out in the 2-18 GHz frequency range. MCCFs prepared at 60 °C obtained a much higher loss factor than that prepared at 75 °C. However, the calculation results of reflection loss were very abnormal that MCCFs prepared at 60 °C almost had no absorption property. While MCCFs prepared at 75 °C exhibited a good absorption property and obtained −10 dB and −20 dB refection loss in wide matching thickness ranges (1.0-6.0 mm and 1.7-6.0 mm range, respectively). A secondary attenuation peak could also be observed when the thickness of MCCF/paraffin composite exceeded 4.0 mm. The minimum reflection loss was lower.  相似文献

Oxygen-related electronic structures of CNTs (carbon nanotubes) grown by rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition (RT-CVD) have been investigated by using partial electron yield near edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (PEY-NEXAFS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). On the CNT surface with increased oxygen resulting from e-beam irradiation under the O2 gas environment, C k-edge NEXAFS spectra showed an increase of the oxygen-related resonance peaks ranging from 287 to 289 eV whereas the sp2 related peak at 285.4 eV was nearly unchanged. After the complete removal process of the oxygen atom on the surface by annealing the sample at 500 °C for 30 min, C K-edge spectra showed an abrupt decrease of the oxygen-related resonance peaks in 287-289 eV and an increase of the sp2 related peak at 285.4 eV, indicating that the degree of crystallinity in the CNT sample was improved.  相似文献
