A density functional (DFT) calculations of the structural, elastic and high pressure properties of the cubic XBi (X=U,Cm) compounds, has been reported using the full potential linear muffin-tin orbital (FP-LMTO) method. In this approach the local density approximation (LDA) is used for the exchange-correlation (XC) potential. Results are given for lattice constant, bulk modulus and its pressure derivatives. The pressure transitions at which these compounds undergo structural phase transition from NaCl-type (B1) to CsCl-type (B2) phase were found to be in good agreement with the available theoretical results. We have determined the elastic constants C11, C12, C44 and their pressure dependence which have not been established experimentally or theoretically.  相似文献

The structural and elastic properties of CrO2 in the rutile phase under high pressures have been investigated using pseudopotential plane-wave method based on density functional theory. The optimized lattice parameters and the bulk modulus at zero pressure agree well with available experimental and theoretical data. The elastic constants C 11, C 12, C 44, C 33, C 13, and C 66 at zero pressure are calculated to be 359.91, 264.69, 143.28, 309.45, 218.45, and 260.74 GPa, respectively. Elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio under pressures are obtained. Our results indicate that the rutile phase is mechanically stable below 11.99 GPa. The elastic anisotropy of rutile phase under pressures has also been predicted.  相似文献

The pressure induced phase transition in uranium monochalcogenides, UX (X = S, Se, and Te) is studied by two-body potential approach. It is found that US, USe and UTe undergo a structural phase transition from NaCl (B1) type to CsCl (B2) type at 78.5, 21 and 9.5 GPa, respectively, which is in good agreement with the recent experimental data. In addition, second-order elastic constants (SOECs) (C 11, C 12 and C 14) have been calculated which can be used to establish the nature of the forces in these materials. The present study shows that the considered two-body potential model can be used to predict the phase transition pressure in UX compounds provided the strength and hardness parameters in B1 and B2 phases are different.  相似文献

Structural, elastic and electronic properties of strontium chalcogenides SrX (X = O, S and Se) in the B1 (NaCl) and B2 (CsCl) phases were investigated in the present work. The calculations were performed using density functional theory (DFT) within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) using scalar relativistic Vanderbilt-type ultrasoft pseudopotentials. Results for structural properties of both phases, the pressure at which transition from B1 to B2 phase occurs and the volume compression ratio for each compound were reported. Elastic properties of the B1 phase of these compounds, such as elastic constants C11, C12, and C44, shear modulus (G), Young's modulus (E), Poisson's ratio (σ), Kleinman parameter (ξ), and anisotropy factor (A) were also calculated at ambient conditions. The band gaps and density of states were studied too for the B1 structure of these compounds. The present results were compared with the available experimental and other theoretical results, and found to be in satisfactory agreement with them.  相似文献

The structural phase transition between B1 (α-MnS) and B3 (β-MnS) is investigated using a density functional theory method. The structural phase transition pressure Pt from α-MnS to β-MnS, which is determined on the basis of the third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of states, is 30.75?GPa. Also, the lattice parameters a, the bulk modulus B and pressure derivative of bulk modulus B′, which are generally in good agreement with experiments and other theoretical values, are obtained under zero pressure. For further investigation of the structural phase transition pressure of MnS, the relative volumes V/V 0, the bulk modulus B, first and second pressure derivatives (B′ and B″) of bulk modulus for the two structures of MnS have been calculated under various pressures.  相似文献

The mechanical, thermodynamical and elastic properties of Hg0.91Mn0.09Te compound are calculated by formulating an effective interionic interaction potential. This potential consists of the long-range Coulomb, three body force parameter, the Hafemeister and Flygare type short-range overlap repulsion extended upto the second neighbor ions and the van der Waals (vdW) interaction. The estimated values of phase transition pressure have revealed reasonably good agreement with the available experimental data on the phase transition pressure P t = 11.5 GPa and the vast volume discontinuity in pressure-volume (PV) phase diagram indicate the structural phase transition from zincblende (B3) to rock salt (B1) structure. Later on, the Poisson’s ratio ν, the ratio R S/B of S (Voigt averaged shear modulus) over B (bulk modulus), elastic anisotropy parameter, elastic wave velocity, average wave velocity and Debye temperature as functions of pressure is calculated. From Poisson’s ratio and the ratio R S/B it is inferred that Hg0.91Mn0.09Te is brittle in nature in both B3 phase and B1 phase. To our knowledge this is the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the pressure dependence of ductile (brittle) nature of Hg0.91Mn0.09Te compounds and still awaits experimental confirmations.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations, based on norm-conserving nonlocal pseudopotentials and density functional theory (DFT), are performed to investigate the structural, elastic, dielectric, and vibrational properties of aluminum arsenide AlAs with zinc-blende (B3) structure and nickel arsenide (B81) structure under hydrostatic pressure. Firstly, the path for the phase transition from B3 to B81 is confirmed by analyzing the energies of different structures, which is in good agreement with previous theoretical results. Secondly, we find that the elastic constants, bulk modulus, static dielectric constants, and the optical phonon frequencies are varying in a nearly linear manner under hydrostatic pressure. What is more, the softening mode of transversal acoustic mode at X point supports the phase transition in AlAs.  相似文献

We have predicted high pressure structural behavior and elastic properties of alkaline earth tellurides (AETe; AE = Ca, Sr, Ba) by using two body interionic potential approach with modified ionic charge (Z m e). This method has been found quite satisfactory in case of the rare earth compounds. The equation of state curve, structural phase transition pressure from NaCl (B1) to CsCl (B2) phase and associated volume collapse at transition pressure of alkaline earth tellurides (AETe) obtained from this approach, so have been compared with experimentally measured data reveal good agreement. We have also investigated bulk modulus, second and third order elastic constants and pressure derivatives of second order elastic constants at ambient pressure which shows predominantly ionic nature of these compounds. First time, we have calculated the Poisson ratio, Young and Shear modulus of these compounds.   相似文献

The structural phase transition, elastic, thermodynamics properties of BeSe in zinc-blende were investigated by performing first-principles calculations within generalized gradient approximation. The phase transition pressure Pt between the B3 phase and the B8 phase of BeSe was determined. The pressure dependencies of elastic constants, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio of BeSe are calculated. The thermodynamic properties of the zinc-blende structure BeSe are calculated by using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The pressure and temperature dependencies of the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient, as well as the Grüneisen parameter are investigated systematically in the ranges of 0–50 GPa and 0–1200 K.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, and electronic properties of SrZrN2 under pressure up to 100?GPa have been carried out with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters at 0?GPa and 0?K by using the GGA-PW91-ultrasoft method are in good agreement with the available experimental data and other previous theoretical calculations. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants and the elastic-dependent properties of SrZrN2, such as bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Debye temperature Θ, shear and longitudinal wave velocity VS and VL, are also successfully obtained. It is found that all elastic constants increase monotonically with pressure. When the pressure increases up to 140?GPa, the obtained elastic constants do not satisfy the mechanical stability criteria and a phase transition might has occurred. Moreover, the anisotropy of the directional-dependent Young's modulus and the linear compressibility under different pressures are analysed for the first time. Finally, the pressure dependence of the total and partial densities of states and the bonding property of SrZrN2 are also investigated.  相似文献

The phase transition of gallium phosphide (GaP) from zinc-blende (ZB) to a rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT). Lattice constant a0, elastic constants cij, bulk modulus B0 and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0' are calculated. The results are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. From the usual condition of equal enthalpies, the phase transition from the ZB to the RS structure occurs at 21.9 GPa, which is close to the experimental value of 22.0 GPa. The elastic properties of GaP with the ZB structure in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 21.9 GPa and those of the RS structure in a pressure range of pressures from 21.9 GPa to 40 GPa are obtained. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, the normalized volume V/V0, the Debye temperature θ, the heat capacity Cv and the thermal expansion coefficient α are also discussed in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 40 GPa and a temperature range from 0 K to 1500 K.  相似文献

First-principle calculations of structural, elastic and high pressure properties of antiperovskites XNBa3 (X=As, Sb) are performed, using the full-potential linear muffin-tin orbital (FP-LMTO) method. The local density approximation (LDA) is used for the exchange-correlation (XC) potential. Results are given for lattice constant, bulk modulus and its pressure derivatives. We have determined the elastic constants C11, C12 and C44 and their pressure dependence. We derived shear moduli, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and Lamé's constants for ideal polycrystalline XNBa3 aggregates. By analyzing the ratio of the bulk to shear moduli, we conclude that XNBa3 compounds are brittle in nature. We estimated the Debye temperature of XNBa3 from the average sound velocity. This is the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the elastic properties of AsNBa3 and SbNBa3 compounds, and it still awaits experimental confirmation.  相似文献

The electronic, elastic and dynamical properties of MgSe in the rocksalt (B1) and iron silicide (B28) phase and the effects of pressure on these properties are investigated using first-principles method. The calculated electronic band structure indicates that the B1 phase of MgSe presents an indirect band-gap feature and the band gaps initially increase with pressure and subsequently decrease upon compression. Remarkably, an indirect-to-direct band-gap transition has been observed at the phase transition pressure. The elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, elastic anisotropy and B/G ratio of MgSe in the B1 and B28 phase at high pressure have also been investigated. The bulk modulus, shear modulus and Young’s modulus all increase monotonously with the increasing of pressure for the B1 and B28 phase of MgSe. The calculated phonon frequencies of the B1 phase at zero pressure agree well with available theoretical results. And the transverse acoustic phonon TA(X) mode of this phase completely softening to zero at 82 GPa. The phonon curves of the B28 phase under pressure have also been successfully investigated.  相似文献

Using ab initio plane-wave pseudo-potential density functional theory method, the elastic constants and band structures of stishovite were calculated. The calculated elastic constants under ambient conditions agree well with previous experimental and theoretical data.C13,C33,C44,and C66 increase nearly linearly with pressure while C 11 and C 12 show irregularly changes with pressure over 20 GPa.The shear modulus(C11-C12)/2 was observed to decrease drastically between 40 GPa and 50 GPa,indicating acoustic mode softening in consistency with the phase transition to CaCl 2-type structure around 50 GPa.The calculated band structures show no obvious difference at 0 and 80 GPa,being consistent with the high incompressibility of stishovite. With a quasi-harmonic Debye model, thermodynamic properties of stishovite were also calculated and the results are in good agreement with available experimental data.  相似文献

In this article, we have investigated the high-pressure structural phase transition of erbium pnictides (ErX; X?=?N, P and As). An extended interaction potential model has been developed (including the zero-point energy effect in three-body interaction potential model). Phase transition pressures are associated with a sudden collapse in volume. The phase transition pressures and associated volume collapses have been predicted successfully. The elastic constants, their combinations and pressure derivatives are also reported. The pressure behaviour of elastic constants, bulk modulus and shear modulus have been presented and discussed. Moreover, the thermophysical properties such as molecular force constant (f), infrared absorption frequency (υ 0), Debye temperature (θ D) and Grunneisen parameter (γ) have also been predicted.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic and thermodynamic properties of the rhombohedral topological insulator Bi2Se3 are investigated by the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) with the Wu–Cohen (WC) exchange-correlation functional. The calculated lattice constants agree well with the available experimental and other theoretical data. Our GGA calculations indicate that Bi2Se3 is a 3D topological insulator with a band gap of 0.287 eV, which are well consistent with the experimental value of 0.3 eV. The pressure dependence of the elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E, and Poisson’s ratio σ of Bi2Se3 are also obtained successfully. The bulk modulus obtained from elastic constants is 53.5 GPa, which agrees well with the experimental value of 53 GPa. We also investigate the shear sound velocity VS, longitudinal sound velocity VL, and Debye temperature ΘE from our elastic constants, as well as the thermodynamic properties from quasi-harmonic Debye model. We obtain that the heat capacity Cv and the thermal expansion coefficient α at 0 GPa and 300 K are 120.78 J mol?1 K?1 and 4.70 × 10?5 K?1, respectively.  相似文献

The structural, phase transition, elastic, lattice dynamic and thermodynamic properties of rare-earth compounds PrP and PrAs with NaCl (B1), CsCl (B2), ZB (B3), WC (Bh) and CuAu (L10) structures are investigated using the first principles calculations within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). For the total-energy calculation, we have used the projected augmented plane-wave (PAW) implementation of the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP). Specifically, some basic physical parameters, e.g. lattice constants, bulk modulus, elastic constants, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poison's ratio, are predicted. The obtained equilibrium structure parameters are in excellent agreement with the experimental and theoretical data. The temperature and pressure variations of the volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity and Debye temperature are calculated in wide pressure and temperature ranges. The phonon dispersion curves and corresponding one-phonon density of states (DOS) for both compounds are also computed in the NaCl (B1) structure.  相似文献

The six independent elastic constants (C11, C12, C13, C33, C44, and C66) of single-crystal MgF2 in the rutile structure have been measured by Brillouin spectroscopy at room temperature from ambient conditions to 7.4 GPa. Measurements were performed on two monocrystals with perpendicular faces, (001) and (100). A quasi-linear fit from finite strain theory was applied to the experimental data revealing the pressure dependence of the six elastic constants of MgF2. The shear modulus CS=1/2(C11C12), and the aggregate shear (Voigt–Reuss–Hill) modulus G show a softening with increasing pressure, indicating the approach of the rutile-to-CaCl2-type structural phase transition at P~9 GPa. The adiabatic bulk modulus (Reuss average) and its pressure derivative have been determined: K0S=105.1±0.3 GPa, (∂K0S/∂P)T=4.14±0.05. The pressure–volume equation of state of MgF2 was computed self-consistently from the Brillouin data. Our results are in good agreement with X-ray diffraction data. As the phase transition is approached, MgF2 becomes strongly anisotropic and develops partially auxetic behavior (a negative Poisson's ratio in certain directions).  相似文献
