The refraction and reflection of an extremely short pulse of electromagnetic radiation on a layer of a ferroelectric are considered. For an incident pulse, a stationary pulse propagating without distortions in a paraelectric was used. It is shown that low-amplitude pulses undergo a strong reflection at the entrance to a ferroelectric medium and are not recovered after passage through the layer. High-amplitude pulses are reflected to a considerably lesser extent and can turn into a new stationary pulse after passage through the layer of a ferroelectric. The refraction is accompanied by excitation of polarization oscillations localized at the boundaries of the layer. The intensity of these oscillations and the fraction of the reflected wave are significantly different in cases of similar or opposite polarities of the ferroelectric and incident pulse.  相似文献

The problem of plane wave scattering by a nonlinear load array on a perfectly conducting shield covered by a homogeneous dielectric layer is solved by the integral equation method. In this paper the reflection and diffraction properties of nonlinear thin dielectric coatings are investigated. A quite simple geometry consisting of two semi-infinite homogenous linear spaces separated by a non-linear coating is considered. An incident plane wave propagating along the z direction towards the nonlinear thin coating is taken. The nonlinear thin coating is divided into elementary sectors, within each one of which one propagating and one reflected wave exists. The boundary conditions are then applied in order to develop an efficient numerical alogirthm to study the properties of the nonlinear thin coating.  相似文献

The reflection and transmission of a finite-power Airy beam incident on a dielectric slab are investigated by an analytical method. Based on the plane-wave angular spectrum expansion and Fresnel approximation, the analytical expressions of the reflected field, internal field as well as transmitted field in each region are obtained. Through numerical simulations, the intensity distributions of the incident beam, reflected beam, internal beam as well as transmitted beam are presented at oblique incidence. Besides, we also compare the intensity distributions of the geometrical-optics beam field, the first order beam mode field and the actual beam field, which indicates that the contribution of each order beam mode field to the actual beam field is related to the refractive index of the dielectric slab. Meanwhile, the reflection characteristics of the Airy beams in the special cases of Brewster incidence and total reflection are investigated. Finally, the effects of the optical thickness and refractive index of the dielectric slab on the peak intensity distributions and beam shifts of the reflected and transmitted beams are also discussed in detail. The analytical and numerical results will be useful to analyze the propagation dynamics of Airy beam in the dielectric slab and provide some theoretical supports to the design of optical film.  相似文献

We have studied anisotropic Bragg diffraction of light by ultrasonic shear waves in an optically isotropic plane-parallel layer. We have established the analytical dependences of the relative intensities and polarization azimuths of reflected and transmitted diffracted waves on the intensity of the ultrasound, the layer thickness, the angle of incidence, and the polarization azimuth of the incident light. We show that rotation of the plane of polarization of the diffracted wave is determined by the different Fresnel reflection of the s and p polarized components of the incident light in the plane-parallel layer. We have determined that in mismatched acousto-optic structures, deep amplitude modulation of transmitted and reflected light is possible which is an order of magnitude greater than the usual modulation in matched structures.  相似文献

Abstract

Reflection and scattering of waves from plane and statistically rough interfaces between nonlinear media are studied theoretically. New hysteresis-type dependences of the reflection and transmission coefficients on the amplitude of the incident wave and on the angle of incidence are predicted. Scattering diagrams for diffusely reflected and transmitted fields are calculated. It is found that when the dielectric constant is a steep function of the incident amplitude, nonlinearity suppresses the Bragg resonant scattering mechanism. Smooth roughness of the boundary is shown to enhance the penetration of evanescent waves into nonlinear media.  相似文献

Owing to the enormously enhanced oscillating wave, a minute variation of the incident light intensity will give rise to a change in the dielectric constant of the Kerr nonlinear medium and lead to a bistable reflection with an ultra-low threshold intensity, which is closely related to the angle of incidence and the thickness of the Kerr nonlinear medium. The criterion for the existence of optical bistability is derived. Our bistability scheme is simple and not limited to the TM-polarization.  相似文献

Selective reflection of a laser wave from a resonance gas is considered for arbitrary intensity, polarization, and angle of incidence on the interface. Variations of the reflection spectra nonlinear in the wave amplitude are studied taking into account the nonlinear increment of the optical phase upon reflection. The result of this increment is a quadrature component of the reflected wave shifted by a quarter period, which may be observed using the homodyning technique (optical mixing). The regularities studied are of interest both for spectroscopy and for nonlinear transformations in the quantum statistics of reflected light.  相似文献

This paper presents the theoretical formulation for the propagation of electromagnetic wave through a dielectric layer containing a random dense distribution of fibers. The diameter of the fibers is comparable to the inter-fiber spacing and wavelength of the incident radiation, but is much smaller than the thickness of the layer. Discontinuity of refractive index across the boundaries of the dielectric layer resulted in multiple internal reflection of both the primary source wave and the scattered waves. As a result the incident waves on the fibers consist of the multiply-reflected primary waves, scattered waves from other fibers, and scattered-reflected waves from the boundaries. The effective propagation constant of the dielectric fiber layer was developed by utilizing the Effective field-Quasicrystalline approximation. The influence of the refractive index of the dielectric medium on the radiative properties of a dense fiber layer was examined by means of numerical analyses.  相似文献

We investigate the reflection of a TM-polarized light beam from a Kretschmann configuration with a Kerr nonlinear dielectric. It is found that there exists a hysteretic response between the lateral shift of the reflected beam and the intensity of the incident beam. In contrast to the lower switch threshold, the higher switch threshold of optical bistability is more sensitive to the variations of the angle of incidence and the thickness of metal film. It is also found that the peak value of the lateral shift is strongly dependent on the thickness of metal film.  相似文献

We show that a solitary surface wave can exist at the boundary between a plasma and a dielectric, due to a balance between the nonlinear surface charge terms and the dispersive terms which here are caused by the presence of a high-frequency incident electromagnetic wave. The solitary wave propagation velocity, which depends on the intensity of the incident field, is also calculated.  相似文献

We have analyzed the influence of the angle between the wave vectors of two incident waves (the opening angle) and of the type of the anisotropy of a nonlinear layer on the shape of the directivity pattern of a sum-frequency harmonic generated by the two plane elliptically polarized electromagnetic waves from a thin spherical optically nonlinear layer deposited on the surface of a dielectric spherical particle placed in a dielectric. Our analysis has shown that, if the radius of the thin spherical nonlinear layer is small, the shape of the directivity pattern will change significantly with increasing opening angle only for some types of anisotropy: the main lobes shift toward the direction that is opposite to the direction of the sum of the wave vectors of the incident waves. For three types of anisotropy, the directivity patterns have similar shapes. We have also found that, for one of the types of the anisotropy, the shape of the directivity pattern remains unchanged upon a change in the opening angle. The mathematical properties of functions describing the spatial distribution of the generated harmonic have been determined. In particular, it has been found that, upon incidence of linearly polarized waves on a thin nonlinear spherical layer that possesses either solely chiral or solely nonchiral nonlinear properties, linearly polarized radiation of the sum-frequency harmonic is generated.  相似文献

 由均匀平面电磁波在左右手媒质界面满足的切向边界条件出发,推导了电磁波由线性传统媒质入射到非线性左手媒质时波的传播特性。利用时间延迟的方法,给出全反射情况下媒质界面非线性Goos-Hänchen位移表达式。分析了非线性左手媒质界面的侧向位移随入射角及入射波电场强度的变化关系,发现入射波场强对传输特性起决定作用:当入射波电场小于临界场强时,调节入射场强可以控制相应的侧向位移;当入射波电场大于临界场强时,不再满足全反射条件,部分入射波透射到非线性介质中。波导中加入非线性介质不仅可以调节侧向位移的大小,且可以实现对入射波场强的控制。  相似文献

Diffraction of a spatially inhomogeneous X-ray wave was theoretically studied in a crystal with cubic nonlinear response to the strength of an external electric field. Using numerical calculations in case of two-beam diffraction of a narrow incident beam, the intensity distributions on the output surface of the crystal was investigated depending on the thickness and intensity of the incident beam. The results of numerical calculations of integral (spatial) coefficients of transmission and reflection are given as functions of incident wave intensity for fixed thickness of the crystal.  相似文献

Two‐wave symmetric Bragg‐case dynamical diffraction of a plane X‐ray wave in a crystal with third‐order nonlinear response to the electric field is considered theoretically. For certain diffraction conditions for a non‐absorbing perfect semi‐infinite crystal in the total reflection region an analytical solution is found. For the width and for the center of the total reflection region expressions on the intensity of the incidence wave are established. It is shown that in the nonlinear case the total reflection region exists below a maximal intensity of the incidence wave. With increasing intensity of the incidence wave the total reflection region's center moves to low angles and the width decreases. Using numerical calculations for an absorbing semi‐infinite crystal, the behavior of the reflected wave as a function of the intensity of the incidence wave and of the deviation parameter from the Bragg condition is analyzed. The results of numerical calculations are compared with the obtained analytical solution.  相似文献

The spatio-temporal spectrum of optical radiation reflected from a nonlinear dielectric medium with nonresonant dispersion is obtained as a function of the parameters of the spatio-temporal spectrum of a paraxial light beam incident on the boundary of the medium at small angles. Nonlinear reflection of various types of femtosecond spectral supercontinua from the interface between air and fused silica is simulated. It is shown that the time duration and the transverse dimensions of a beam of multiple-frequency radiation generated during the reflection of a superposition of high-intensity fields of two few-cycle pulses with different central wavelengths may be smaller than those of incident ultrashort pulses.  相似文献

We have considered the quadratic nonlinear radiation from a thin dipole sheet in front of a mirror. Radiation at the second-harmonic (SH) frequency on incidence of a fundamental field can be inhibited or enhanced independently of the SH field intensity stored between the nonlinear layer and the mirror. We have shown that this apparent contradiction can be fully understood only if the quadratic nonlinear interaction includes terms with a momentum mismatch equal to the magnitude of the SH field wave vector, such as the term that accounts for transfer of energy from the reflected SH field back to the incident fundamental.  相似文献
